I know fans have theorized Sonny ambushed his own deal, which I find untrue. And for those asking how Sonny got the money and drugs on the table if that wasn't the case, he got him from another deal he made back in LC. Now folks are asking why make a deal in Vice if he already made a deal in Liberty? Simply. Sonny didn't need anything out of it. From what's been told, Sonny most likely sent Tommy to make the deal because he knew the deal was going to be ambushed because it was another attempt to get rid of Tommy like he tried 15 years earlier. When he said at the intro that Tommy's presence will be bad for business, he didn't mean Tommy would ruin everything, because Tommy has already been implied to be a competent badass before he was locked up. What Sonny meant was that Tommy would become a threat to his own Mafia family hierarchy since Tommy's competence gave Sonny the premonition of Tommy getting the possibility to supplant Sonny's position as the Don of his own family, which is why Sonny tried to have him killed 15 years earlier. Once Sonny found out Tommy survived the ambush, he decided to move to Plan B and play along with Tommy's game by having him find the guy who ambush the drug deal so Tommy could take over the drug lord's empire to make enough money to give to Sonny. Sonny's plan here was to have Tommy pay him the money so Sonny could kill Tommy and take over his business empires in Vice. IOW, Sonny was performing the Uriah Gambit on Tommy. Sonny wanted to get rid of Tommy to keep him from ranking any higher on the former's family hierarchy because in his mind, only he should be the Don of his own family, and Tommy was only an associate to him. All this is because Sonny suffers one of the 7 deadly sins: envy. He's envious of Tommy trying to take over his family, which is why he attempted several times to have Tommy killed. Overall, all that makes Sonny a great antagonist who should have had more screentime. Because it would play into more of his motives, which would have definitely put him higher on the list.
Sonny really did deserve more screen time. I wasn’t too impressed by his presentation, mostly because I’ve been long spoiled on the beginning and end of the game before playing it. But the penultimate mission where he sent his goons to tax your assets? That was dope, I liked that one a lot. It shows him pulling strings that I feel he should’ve pulled more of. Using Tommy for an empire expansion and using Lance as an informant does sound like power moves, but he doesn’t seem to have much going on outside of that.
@smaaron_j_46 Yeah, gta Vice City would be much better if Sonny had more cutscenes. Sonny Forelli is one of my top 10 gta antagonists he is a very interesting and important antagonist. It's just a shame that R* didn't give him more screen. He definitely deserves more screen than 4.
Bro didn't do much but call three times before making his GRAND expected second and final, yet first real major appearance as the on-screen threat with the protagonist. Dude was damn near forgetful that he became someone the protagonist ignored, pretty justified on Tommy's end. Solid showdown and satisfying finale and death, though. I think 11th is fair.
Definitely a good antagonist and great voice acting. I guess rockstar didn’t know how to integrate him into the story more because you never see him again during the whole game until the final mission. Only the phone calls
Sonny is one of my top 10 gta villains. It's just a shame that R* didn't give him much screen time. Gta Vice City would be much better if Sonny had much more screen time.
respectfully, i understand your critiques, however i adore sonny, and hes going second. this isnt for nostalgia since i continuously replay vice city. your two critiques (from what i can tell) are that he doesnt have enough screentime and doesnt feel threatening enough. 1: even if his screentime is limited, it feels like it packs more of a punch than endless, slop appearances (like, for example, in my opinion, devin weston.) sonny screaming through the phone. he always felt like he left an impact. 2: he was threatening in my opinion. him screaming thru the phone near the end and his calm demeanor mirroring tommy. also, at the end, he felt aggressive, cryptic, and after tryna rob me over and over, like a guy i was mad at. overall, sonny didnt feel all that forgetful to me. his screentime left a memory in my mind, and i was thinking about how much i couldnt wait to kill him. his phone calls were perfect, and the idea of him talking from the bistro felt super cool. overall, man, respectfully, i disagree with most, if not all of your videos, due to their contraversial topics, but that doesnt make me critique your channel nor your person. im just gonna go out and say, your opinions heavily conflict with mine.
That’s perfectly fine, I’m always willing to agree to disagree. I see where you’re coming from but I personally still believe that Sonny is a very forgettable antagonist, at least while you’re playing through the story, and I can even attest that as I’m currently playing through the story again, I honestly did forget about him until I just read your comment haha. But if you feel differently, that’s alright with me. That’s something I’ve loved about making these videos is being able to encounter people I have disagreements with and try to figure out each other’s perspectives, so if you and I continue to disagree in the future, I’ll be happy to read your comments telling me why that is
Bro joined an even bigger antagonist thinking he would be his equal, I know this might sound cold but Vic was right to be annoyed with Lance's presence upon their "reconcile".
@@Tommy43040 I mean, Lance was working with Somny the entire time, when you think about it. When Lance drops Tommy off after the mission "Back alley brawl". Tommy never introduced himself, however Lance knew his name. He said after dropping Tommy off at Ocean view "I'll be watching you, Tommy". They only exchanged names during the mission "guardian angels" in the parking lot. After taking over diaz's mansion, sonny calls Tommy. Somehow knowing that Tommy is "busy taking over". Lance was feeding sonny information and vice versa.
