It's been a blast getting to read all of your comments throughout my shift at work today, and I'm glad I could finally respond to them now that I'm home haha. Also, just wanna say real quick that it's gonna be a little while before I'm able to post my next video essay (I've got a video that's very important to me in the works that will be coming out next), but if you'd like to see something similar to this, feel free to check out this video essay I made on Thrillville and Thrillville: Off The Rails back in February! ua-cam.com/video/HATfrE-bT1Y/v-deo.html Anyway, thanks again for all the love everybody! God the 3D era really had a completely different vibe for every single game, and nailed it every time. How the fuck they revisited the same city, with the same time period (or near enough) and make it feel TOTALLY different is beyond me. The feeling the 3D era gives me is just a warm fuzzy feeling all around tbh
How can you say GTA III music sucks? I mean Flashback FM, 80's classics, Game Radio with gangstarap, Kjah with reggae. GTA III Radio is a figging 00's banger collection
I’ve tried listening to it on multiple occasions and I remember REALLY trying to like Game Radio specifically, but I just can’t bro haha. I’ll tell you right now that I’m a huge rock fan and can enjoy a bit of rap music too, but sadly, GTA 3’s soundtrack just didn’t appeal to my music taste. I’m positive some people love that game’s music, but unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll ever be for one of them lol
@@DougTheDog6I get that bro lol too bad you didn’t like I feel like if the remastered version was an ACTUAL remaster and expanded the radio it would’ve been way better
III's Flashback , Head, Lips, MSX, Rise are all hard af. Game is good but weakest out of all rap radios in GTAs. They're all good but the tracklists are too short and you get tired of the repeating songs sooo fast. LCS radio is better though. But GTA III has some of my favorite songs in GTA.
TBF rockstar has said countless times that III was essentially the practice run to see if a full 3D sandbox could even be done and if people would enjoy it. They mention multiple times that there was no blue print or any other existing game to build on, so it was all just guessing and taking shots in the dark.
That’s exactly my point. GTA 3 was them dipping their toes in the water and seeing what they could do with a 3D open world game, throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks. And once they found out what worked and what didn’t, they used that experience to make the best games they could going forward. It’s okay for GTA 3 to not be as good as its successors, because it *was* the blueprint, and without that foundation, we don’t get games like Vice City, San Andreas, LCS, VCS, GTA 4 & 5, Bully, Red Dead 1 and 2, and so on
@@DougTheDog6 And yet NONE of them look even remotely CLOSE to as good as GTA III with their pixelated bullshit and LACK of atmosphere! 😂 I mean, I couldn't give a fuck about graphics but that's what y'all want right? Then why have they looked worse every game SINCE 3? 🤔
Thanks for the correction. I forget if I said this in the video or not, but I wasn't playing video games yet by the time GTA 3 released (San Andreas was actually the first video game I ever played lol), so couple that with the fact that I didn't do as much research for this video as I typically do for things like this (which I'll absolutely take the fault for), and I'm not too surprised I made a mistake like that. Still though, considering how mainstream Grand Theft Auto was in the early 2000s, I'd still say its influence on the gaming sphere helped forge a path for the other franchises I mentioned
The later driver games started adding guns and such. They're influenced by GTA. GTA had 2 games and an expansion before the first driver released. The only thing people can mention is GTA going 3D
@@LePetitGarage Gta in 1997 was top-view, as GTA 2, that was released in 1999. The same year when third-person view Driver was released, 2 years before GTA 3
LCS was a game I spent far too much time on as a kid simply because it was a portable game. I got to see everything that happened to the city and why it looks how it does in 3. One mission I could never make it past was killing Vincenzo on the boat while everyone had chainsaws only to realize the revolver one shots the enemies
yeah that mission was almost impossible for me as a kid, i remember when i found out about the revolver too and that rush of dopamine when i finally beat it
Wasn’t there also another mission with a chainsaw at one of the warehouses just around the corner from Vincenzo’s as well? Shit was hard because the dude was fast and killed you quick
Really? I’ve been playing GTA 4 for over 10 years and I swear I’ve never seen it before, but considering how immersive that game is, it makes sense to miss one of the little details like that lol
Just curious, was this the first GTA game you’ve played or watched someone play? I know I personally feel the most nostalgia for San Andreas, the first game I’ve ever played, and Vice City, which I remember watching my brother play a lot
@@DougTheDog6 I'm pretty sure 3 was my first one. I don't remember whether LCS was a game I played before or after Vice City. I was real young when I played the 3D era games, but maybe I'm not that nostalgic over San Andreas is because I still often play it the most out of any GTA game.
I couldn't wait for this to come out on PS2, back then it was unbearable just waiting 2 years for a new GTA game. Are you going to cover Vice City Stories and The Ballard of gay Tony
@@ShawnReed-ny1hd Bro what? VCS is crazy good, the radio, gameplay, everything is great. What about VC is better other than the story? 3 is literally worse in every way too.
@@ShawnReed-ny1hd gta 3 us the worst but i like it anyways the vcs is one of my favorite its very good i would like to See LCS VCS True Crime NYC godfather and scarface in remastered or remake
I wanna say i've definitely seen pedestrians hauling taxis in GTA IV, but then again, i might be misremembering it. I do recall seeing pedestrians already in cabs
I remember playing lcs on psp along side vcs, the thing I like about it was its mafia theme combined with a Dark story, everyone you meet either dies or disappears from the rest of the game.
I don't know what it is about a good mafia theme that can make any medium of entertainment so compelling! LCS definitely did a way better job at making a good mafia story than GTA 3 ever did, so much so that I'm really thinking about playing it again even though I just beat it not too long ago. Also, you just did a great job at describing GTA 4's story with the whole 'everyone either dies or disappears' thing, which I think is one of the reasons why that game is so good as well
As someone who grew up with the 3D GTA universe, and who continues to play them on PS2 since 2012. I can tell you that GTA LCS is the improved and definitive version of GTA III (Unlike the GTA Trilogy DE). GTA IV is the remake (in the style of Resident Evil 4 on PS4/PS5) of GTA III.
I actually really love GTA III because of how different it is. Especially how it looks and plays. It's very arcade-y and "pick up and play". Although I do agree the story is terrible. It was originally gonna have a *way* better story but Rockstar changed a bunch of random shit around and turned it from a genuinely good crime drama into a big joke. Check out GTA Series Videos' video about the GTA III design doc if you haven't already.
I’ll definitely have to check that out! And I know what you mean as far as the arcadey aspect of GTA 3. It’s definitely not a bad game to drop yourself into and just mess around, but as someone who’s main purpose in a video game is usually to beat it, well, let’s just say it wasn’t very enjoyable trying to achieve my main purpose lol
I never even knew that people had a problem with GTA III. I thought it was considered a masterpiece. I think it helps that I was one of the first people in the world to play it because I was really young when it came out
@@DougTheDog6lol. That makes sense because that's all I do in GTA III is just go around blowing stuff up. The missions were actually really hard in that game I thought
To truly appreciate GTA3, you had to play it when it was released. Playing it now and comparing it to the games that improved upon it, is just not the same and never will be. It's definitely the worst of the 3d GTA's, but I still love going back to it because of the nostalgia. I've been playing GTA since the first one, and it blows my mind how it has been 10 years since GTAV released and the rest of the entire series was released within 12 years. GTA6 better be worth the wait.
That’s exactly my point. I firmly believe that GTA 3 was a great game back when it first came out, but since I’m not lucky enough to have that experience, it’s very hard to find enjoyment out of it because I’d already played San Andreas, GTA 4, and GTA 5 by the time I finally got around to GTA 3 And yeah, it’s insane that we’re officially past 10 years of GTA 5, but I’m 110% confident that when GTA 6 comes out, it will be the absolute best game of all time until we get a GTA 7. Who knows about how Online will be, but single player is gonna be one hell of an experience, and I can’t wait for it
You took the words out of my mouth. I remember being amazed playing GTA 3 as a kid. Ofc I didn’t know what I was doing & couldn’t get complete the game but getting a high wanted level was fun. I even love other Rockstar games like Bully, Warriors, Manhunt, etc. As for GTA6 I’m patiently waiting as well. I think GTA online was the worst thing to happen to the series but I’m not mad at it. I just feel like that is a main reason why we don’t have 6 yet
In short: GTA III was amazing for it's time, but has aged horribly. Also, I have zero hopes for VI. Rockstar has gone full longnose and will no doubt push that EGS score as hard as they can. Hell, I don't even think V was that good, it's the worst 3D/HD entry in the franchise IMHO, and doesn't even have III's excuse of being old and prototypal.
You need to go back and play GTA 4 again because I'm positive the pedestrians hail taxis bruh..you can even snatch a ped out the taxi and take his ride by holding triangle while they're in it lol
I know for a fact that peds can *take* taxis, but I’ve never seen one hail one from the side of the road. But if that is a feature that I’ve just never noticed, it makes sense since that game is packed full of little details like that so it’s impossible to notice everything, even after playing it for 12 years like I have. That being said, I actually am playing through GTA 4 again (albeit a pretty modded version for an extra challenge) and have been streaming it on Twitch. That really is such a fun game!
@@DougTheDog6 imo it's the best most detailed and realistic Gta ever made.. hell you can pick up trash and throw it at people lol plus the story hits hard like a hbo show
No way! UA-cam algorithms actually work for a change! That was a very good video to watch. I'm not a very big fan of GTA, but Liberty Story is as good as you describe it. I tried it once through PPSSPP and spent 4 hours playing. Definetly the definitive GTA III experience. Haven't touched it since, but that's just because I'm not that into GTA. The only GTA I've actually beat is Vice City on Xbox, and that's my personal favourite. Hope your channel grows! Keep up the good work.
I like the idea of "the definitive GTA III experience", because LCS is definitely the true definitive edition of 3 in my opinion Anyway, thanks a lot man! I put a lot of time into putting this video together, so I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it!
Was just looking through the comments of this video again and figured I should let you know that I actually went ahead and made that Vice City Stories video. You should check it out if you haven’t seen it yet!
I remember buying this for PS2 back in the day and finding it alright, my biggest issue with it was the framerate being absolutely abysmal, but later when I used my copy to make an ISO file and played it on PCSX2, it was fantastic! I have it in 4th place on my GTA ranking.
LCS is the one GTA game I've sunk the most hours into on a PSP. A couple things I can note - On PC, you can look around in GTA 3 with mouselook, even if you are using the lock-on system. The PC games used traditional controls of the mouse to move camera around, but also had manual aim option for all the weapons. The only thing LCS don't manage to do well with GTA 3's world is the atmosphere. The Silent Hill style fog effects and weather are absent, along with the lighting. But that has more to do with the limitations of the PSP. I wish so badly Rockstar would've released a port of both LCS and VCS on PC to let modders fix them back in the day. But I have given up on Rockstar all together after those god awful "definitive editions" they released. Those were bad enough, but even worse was them outright going to war with modders who spent nearly 20 years fixing stuff in GTA 3, and then delisting the originals to try and force people to buy the crappy remasters.
12:00 I dunno about the GTA3 Radio, Game Radio and Flashback used actual licensed songs: Game Radio has rappers that were from their record label at the time (famously Royce Da 5’9, he’s known for the Bad Meets Evil duo with Eminem) and Flashback contains songs from the 1983 Scarface movie! And if you keep listening to LIPS106 in GTA3, they have the GTA1 theme song in that radio
I’ll be straight up with you, the music in GTA 3 sounds to me like some stuff they came up with in the development studio rather than anything actually licensed. That being said, I know there are a lot of people who really do enjoy GTA 3 and LCS’ music, but it’s just never been for me That’s a really cool fact about the GTA 1 theme song though, I never knew that!
@@DougTheDog6 you’re actually correct, the majority of LIPS106 is actually recorded by the dev team. But after all that, they at least were able to acquire such rights to more notable music starting with Vice City of course, the ultimate best of 80’s music at the time!
Man I had all the important cheat codes literally ingrained in me as a kid. I can't believe I played this game on the PSP. Looking back it was pretty incredible that they could fit such a game into that little thing. Thanks for uploading. PS I can't stand GTA3 either and the first time I played it was on an iPhone 4
I will say, being colorblind, the triangles when targeting were much easier to see in LCS for me, I guess green getting darker to black was easier for me to see than green turning to red, maybe that's why they did it.
That's not even something I had considered at all. I never thought about how that could make it easier for people with color blindness like yourself, but still, I wish there could at least be a toggle option
Liberty city stories was my into to GTA if I’m not mistaken on the PSP. It could have been vice city stories but either way I played both games about the same time and adore both of these, super nostalgic
Honestlyyyy. I don't even have any nostalgia for it, but since I started hearing it while loading up the game for this video, I can't get enough of it!
Just finished this game for the first time, really enjoyed it. Back in the day I didn't own a PSP or PS2, just GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas on PC. LCS aged fairly well, but it was quite tough compared to newer games, kept dying a lot :-D
I feel the same way about vice city stories and vice city, i feel like vice city was rushed and there was so many missed opportunities to make it better and vcs fixed alot of that but not all like map for example, i wish they added the gator keys to vcs at least.
I feel like it’s because LCS is looked at as just a PSP port so people don’t wanna give it a try (at least that was my excuse for the longest time), and that’s why I wanted to make this video, because GTA players who’ve avoided it should absolutely give it a chance
Back in elementary school, everyone loved San Andreas, others like vice city, but liberty city stories was my shit. I Had the ps2 port. I really like the strict mafia story.
I actually played LCS on a legit psp back in the day, it took a lot of getting used to since there was no second analog stick to turn the camera around. San Andreas will always be my favorite gta game but theres something about the dark, gloomy and cloudy atmosphere of 3 and LCS
i absolutely love how naturally your scriptwriting sounds. most of the time, essay channels sound like theyre shoehorning jokes and shit into their scripts, but your writing flows really really well. it also helps that you have solid takes. you earned a sub my friend.
I was lucky enough to have played GTA III when it came out and it quickly became my favorite game to play until I played GTA SA. Which became my favorite game to play until IV. I really believe comparing it to the installments that came after is not only disingenuous to the game itself, but also to what the game represents. And to be fair you covered that portion of your video. And I guess everything is subjective but when I was a kid in 2001 playing it at my friends house almost daily until my parents got me my own copy, and just seeing how the game was in comparison to the games I was playing at the time (Crash, Tomb Raider, Madden, racing games here and there), it was crazy. Plus, and I know I’m very much in the minority on this take, I very much enjoyed the story. Plus I still listen to Chatterbox FM when I need a laugh 😂. But it’s your opinion and it’s all good. Keep up the good work
Thank you bro, I have to say that you are by far one of the more respectful GTA 3 fans I’ve interacted with in this comments section lol. And I feel you with Chatterbox, that station is hilarious haha
A very subtle video explanation! I kinda like Doug to explain every bit and paying his homage as well as showing any lacks of it. You know, sometimes you have to root for the underdog, isn't it?
I first found out about GTA LCS on some random internet search when I first played GTA VC and then 3(my friends gave me those games) and I was very upset with GTA 3 since NYC is my most favourite place in the world and the game was too bad, like cars were very unsafe and I felt it will explode on the first crash and also the city was dark and empty and I had this glitch where there was no way to save the game, like even at the safe houses you get the menu but it won't save. But when I Played LCS, on ppsspp around 5 years ago, I absolutely loved how bright it was, the cars looked really good and I loved the designs of the wheels, even though it's difficult playing GTA on a keyboard, I liked it. I love all GTA titles especially vice City, 4 and San Andreas, and they hold an important place in my heart 💜 great video!
This is my first GTA game and the first time I discovered open world games. I still remember being absolutely mind blown on how you can just drive around ang punch people as a 12 year old kid.
As someone who loves rock music and appreciates good rap music, all I can say is that LCS' radio didn't really appeal to me, but everyone has their own tastes in music so I respect your opinion brother!
I definitely understand what you mean . for a disco/house /rap head like my self they implicated lives mixes from Dj clue and rogar Sanchez which is mind blowing to me at the time@@DougTheDog6
Man I loved this game so much as a kid. Game came out when I was in middle school and was my first intro to GTA. I’d like to think owning a PSP and GTA LCS was analogous to owning an N64 and any Mario game… they just went together and it was weird if you didn’t have it. Great soundtrack too, listened to every station multiple times over. Coq Au Vin with Richard Goblin plays in my head on a weekly basis and I’m nearly 30 now…
This was the first ever GTA game that I bought & played back when I was 11 years old & it was such an enjoyable game. I’m actually happy I bought this before GTA 3 because it was soooo much better as an introduction to the series. (GTA 3 is probably the worst money I’ve ever spent on a video game in my life & I probably traded it in for Hitman, I think) 🤣
Hey man. Loved this vid and I would love to see u talk about GTA Vice City Stories which was the prequel to GTA Vice City and imo its the most criminally underrated GTA Games of all time
I Believe GTA LCS & VCS Run in the VC Engine, Both explaining why the cars handle better, and why there are bikes. Lore-Wise by 2001 they banned bikes in Liberty City.
I’m pretty sure they run on the same engine as GTA 3 as well based on AI behavior and the way the protagonists move. I feel like the reason for better handling and the inclusion of bikes more comes down to Rockstar’s ability to tweak and program in new features. And yeah, I heard about the whole bike ban thing, which I thought was a really clever way to explain the lack of them in 3 haha
This was my first GTA game, as well as my first PS2 game. I have so much nostalgia for it. So much so that I went ahead and worked on fixing bugs in the unofficial decompilation project (which sadly is no longer public thanks to R*, I wish more people could experience the game on PC).
Amazing video. This game was always described as the crappy psp port of GTA 3. I'm glad you too think that this is an actual improvement to GTA 3. And I love long videos like these. Kinda good for watching while eating something 😂
14:38 the mobile port sadly no longer works, my PS2 was broken about 7 years ago when I first tried LCS so that was how I played it. Honestly I miss the mobile port because even though now I have a PS2 and 2 copies of LCS, neither copy wants to work when I get by the ferry on the north end of Stanton.
Damn that sucks, I’ve heard real good things about the mobile port since releasing this video too. I hope you can find another way to play through the game
@@DougTheDog6 Went to the local retro game store and they had another copy (manual included this time), fortunately this copy works. About to beat this and VCS back to back.
I started this video off disagreeing with you, but at the end I agree, this game did better justice to Liberty City than GTA III did. But I do still disagree with you on the fact that even though it’s dated and the worst of the trilogy, GTA III isn’t a terrible game. Great job though, you’ve earned a new sub :)
Oh wow, I finally met someone that hated GTA 3 more than me lol, and even then I don't hate it but instead just find it really poorly designed and in general annoying.
@@DarkenedX08 I love House Music ngl and imo the only really memorable track from 3’s Rise FM is Score. I feel like both are the same radio but have very different music genres
I used to rock this and VCS on my Dad's PSP. I remember recognizing that this was the same city as GTA3 but I did not understand the stories of these games at all so I had no idea the two games had any correlation until I grew up and developed a brain
I got LCS for PSP and I liked it so much that I also bought it for PS2, If you like GTA 3, you will really like Liberty City Stories although I wish they could've added more things to it
I always say "GTA 3" as a template for a much greater high rise greatness."Rockstar" had to realize that the hits & misses from "3" made "Vice City", "Vice City Stories", "Chinatown Wars", "San Andreas" & "GTA 4", ""GTA 5" & "GTA Online" to be far superior over any open world crime ever made....next to "Saints Row" & "Driver Parallel Lines". "GTA 3" is a game martyr...it has to be bad to create future goodness.... 🎮🕹️🎮🕹️🎮🕹️🎮
@@DougTheDog6 yes but no Rockstar Leeds built the engine, wrote the story and made the game. They got help from Rockstar North but North had no involvement otherwise.
Saying it isn’t fair for Liberty City in 3 had to be sacrificed for what would lead to vice city and San Andreas feels weird to me. Where else could they start off with or “sacrifice”? Would you rather have one of those two be in the position of LC? It had to be Liberty City and it’s a good thing that they did because they were able to improve, innovate and iterate on their foundation. And they did Liberty City justice twice with both LCS and GTA4.
I get what you’re saying. One of the worlds had to be used first in order for Rockstar to find their footing in the 3D world. I’m not saying I’d have rather had Vice City or San Andreas take its place, I’m more or less pointing out that it’s unfortunate that they had to use one of the worlds to make a game that I don’t think holds up nowadays in order to gain the experience necessary to create masterpieces around the other two. But by going back around to Liberty City, and using that experience to create LCS, I no longer consider that world to be sacrificed because in the end, they managed to finally make a game around Liberty City that can hold its own when compared to Vice City or San Andreas. Also, I totally agree with you that GTA 4’s rendition of Liberty City is fantastic and justice was definitely done since that game is a massive joy to play. But that version of Liberty City is completely different from the 3D Universe’s version, so even if GTA 4 is an amazing game, if LCS didn’t exist, I would still feel that the 3D version of Liberty City was sacrificed
@@DougTheDog6 that’s understandable, however I disagree with it being unfortunate. Of course the game doesn’t hold up today given how far we’ve come in the past 2 decades. The game is a product of its time, and it was very well received for what it achieved at that time and they were able to outdo each game with every release. I think its fortunate that they used one of their world that would be the foundation of many open world games that we have now. And it shouldn’t be a surprise that GTA 4s version of Liberty City is different from GTA 3. The tech of the 7th generation of consoles was better than the previous and they’ve made the world actually similar to NYC. GTA 5s version of SA is different from GTA SA. Im pretty sure HD world was going to be different to the 3D universe from the get go. I’m sure the same thing will happen with GTA 6 (when and if it ever revealed and releases) GTA 3 is very outdated no one can deny that, but Liberty City wasn’t sacrificed. It knew what it was at its time and did the job well enough and it set a bar that future titles would outdo each other setting said bar higher each release and set a standard for open world games in general.
A couple of years ago, lcs actually got ported by fans to the pc but take two took them all down, if you can find re lcs beta 6 it's totally playable from start to finish, but moddb only has a re-upload of beta 5 which had a lot of game-breaking bugs still fun to play around with though.
Didn't realize a lot of people hadn't heard of this one. Was born in 1999 and played Vice City a few times in 04ish (not missions just fucking around on my older cousin's PS2), rented Vice City Stories once in about 08, then the first copy i had of any GTA game was LCS toward the end of 08 probably? Got San Andreas then 3 not very long after that. Got a copy of VCS for my PS2 when i was like 11 (2010/2011) or so (already had a PS3 bc RDR was my favorite at the time, still is esp. so after 2, but they didnt have the ports for the 3D ones out yet tho). GTA IV was definitely at the end of its run when i got that copy of VC or VCS it but i got it at a flea market so ofc it didn't work. Loved IV tho, still play it occasionally to this day. Love V too for different reasons but Rockstar's just ran it into the ground at this point. Always found the RDR games more fun/interesting but everyone's got their preference. Gotta say, 2's online mode was disappointing to say the least, they wasted a lot of potential by sinking everything into V even tho it was a way older game. Typed a little much lol. But never realized LCS was that unknown at the time. Makes sense, SA and VCS are way better/kinda overshadowed it. But that was basically my introduction to the GTA Series and Rockstar as a whole. Also played a lot of Bully around the time i was also playing LCS/3/SA a lot, wanna see a sequel of that (or maybe just a similar series not linked to the first one) but also don't want them to prioritize that over/cause delays for GTA 6 and hopefully eventually RDR3. Not gonna lie didn't like LCS much when i had it but can't deny i had a good bit of fun with it seeing as it was my first time having a GTA game i could play whenever. SA was my favorite but still have fond memories of LCS
Sadly LCS is the only GTA on PS2 which don't support analog buttons (missing it especially in cars for throttle control but it might work for brake I think which is really odd), probably because PSP didn't have it. VCS has analog throttle again.
I understand why people wouldn’t like the gta 3 story but it will always have a different type of vibe from the other gta’s which is why I have the most memories with it and tbh I loved the gta 3 radio head , msx, rise fm and game fm
GTA LCS was the very first GTA game I've ever gotten to play cuz I only had a PSP back then and couldn't really play GTA San Andreas. Spent hours trying to finish it and I always had fun with it. I still have it on my PS VITA when I need to play a GTA game that I can carry around.
I had both a PS2 and a PSP but I still never really got the chance to play them either when I was younger (apart from the odd time my brother or cousin would bring one of them while visiting), but now that I’ve finished LCS and am currently working towards finishing VCS, I can confidently say they’re both really fun games. I hope you end up enjoying them like I have!

I mean, I couldn't give a fuck about graphics but that's what y'all want right?
Then why have they looked worse every game SINCE 3? 🤔
Driver is older than GTA. GTA was heavily influenced by the first two driver games
@@DougTheDog6 No problem! Your video was great.
GTA was out in 1997 , driver in 1999
The later driver games started adding guns and such. They're influenced by GTA. GTA had 2 games and an expansion before the first driver released.

LCS was a game I spent far too much time on as a kid simply because it was a portable game. I got to see everything that happened to the city and why it looks how it does in 3. One mission I could never make it past was killing Vincenzo on the boat while everyone had chainsaws only to realize the revolver one shots the enemies
That mission was so fun, I loved the arcadey feel with the top-down perspective. One of the most unique missions in the whole game lol
That mission was very much fun. It literally gave the vibe of chainsaw massacre
yeah that mission was almost impossible for me as a kid, i remember when i found out about the revolver too and that rush of dopamine when i finally beat it

Wasn’t there also another mission with a chainsaw at one of the warehouses just around the corner from Vincenzo’s as well? Shit was hard because the dude was fast and killed you quick

I've played pretty much ever gta game, but for some reason the nostalgic feeling is the strongest with this one.
Just curious, was this the first GTA game you’ve played or watched someone play? I know I personally feel the most nostalgia for San Andreas, the first game I’ve ever played, and Vice City, which I remember watching my brother play a lot

Some other people have pointed out pedestrians hailing cabs in GTA 4, but I swear I’ve never noticed it in my 12 years of playing lol
Gta3 skill issue lol. LCS is underrated though
Fr I finished gta 3 within 6 hours no joke
GTA games actually take quite a high level of skill to be good at.
I loved GTA3, it was incredible for the time it released. Not my favourite but they all are very nostalgic to me.
I literally can't even play GTA IV. I think it's one of the worst games ever played my life. I love every single other GTA in existence
I firmly believe that GTA 3 was a great game back when it first came out, but since I’m not lucky enough to have that experience, it’s very hard to find enjoyment out of it because I’d already played San Andreas, GTA 4, and GTA 5 by the time I finally got around to GTA 3
And yeah, it’s insane that we’re officially past 10 years of GTA 5, but I’m 110% confident that when GTA 6 comes out, it will be the absolute best game of all time until we get a GTA 7.
@@DominatorLegend And yet GTA online still has full lobbies 10 years after...
yep, I bought GTAIII in 2002 and it was amazing at the time.

It was one of my first GTA games along with 3 and SA and VCS... so many memories of msking cheat sheets
Great video man, fantastic insight into LCS!
LCS is the one GTA game I've sunk the most hours into on a PSP. A couple things I can note -
On PC, you can look around in GTA 3 with mouselook, even if you are using the lock-on system.
That being said, I know there are a lot of people who really do enjoy GTA 3 and LCS’ music, but it’s just never been for me
That’s a really cool fact about the GTA 1 theme song though, I never knew that!
PS I can't stand GTA3 either and the first time I played it was on an iPhone 4
i really loved liberty city stories and vice city stories
two veeery underrated games
I will say, being colorblind, the triangles when targeting were much easier to see in LCS for me, I guess green getting darker to black was easier for me to see than green turning to red, maybe that's why they did it.
That's not even something I had considered at all. I never thought about how that could make it easier for people with color blindness like yourself, but still, I wish there could at least be a toggle option
This video was great. Love your comedic approach to the commentary, it kept me laughing all through my lunch break!
Liberty city stories was my into to GTA if I’m not mistaken on the PSP. It could have been vice city stories but either way I played both games about the same time and adore both of these, super nostalgic
GTA 3 was a great game for its time. Had a good storyline based on real life gangs and the theme tune is unforgettable.
GTA lcs was my childhood ps2 game. Also I think the lcs gta has the best theme song.
Honestlyyyy. I don't even have any nostalgia for it, but since I started hearing it while loading up the game for this video, I can't get enough of it!

Honestly I agree with this. In fact, GTA 3 walked so LCS could run. At least IMO.
To play the devil's advocate, the mobile version of LCS can be decent if you use a Bluetooth controller
I always forget you can actually use controllers on phones lol
And they upscaled the graphics a bit too
Fog effects being better, along with the lighting
Just finished this game for the first time, really enjoyed it. Back in the day I didn't own a PSP or PS2, just GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas on PC. LCS aged fairly well, but it was quite tough compared to newer games, kept dying a lot :-D
I feel the same way about vice city stories and vice city, i feel like vice city was rushed and there was so many missed opportunities to make it better and vcs fixed alot of that but not all like map for example, i wish they added the gator keys to vcs at least.
One of favorite GTAs, always liked it more than GTA3, don't get why most prefer GTA 3 over LCS.
I feel like it’s because LCS is looked at as just a PSP port so people don’t wanna give it a try (at least that was my excuse for the longest time), and that’s why I wanted to make this video, because GTA players who’ve avoided it should absolutely give it a chance
@@DougTheDog6its mostly due to it being only on PlayStation hardware. But it deserves more recognition

schlagg was one of the reasons GTA III was so heavily changed in 2001
I was lucky enough to have played GTA III when it came out and it quickly became my favorite game to play until I played GTA SA.

I’m sure the same thing will happen with GTA 6 (when and if it ever revealed and releases)
GTA 3 is very outdated no one can deny that, but Liberty City wasn’t sacrificed.
That sounds like Take Two 🙃 but I never knew about that! Hopefully I can find a way to get my hands on beta 6 someday, that sounds awesome!
Great video bro. Subbed.
You described my thoughts on gta 3 exactly
Keep up the amazing work! I'd love to see a video covering tomb Raider Legend or Underworld
I’ve actually never played a Tomb Raider game believe it or not, but I’d be willing to try it out!
@@DougTheDog6 ayeee hell yea, tomb Raider underworld has some wild ports, most notably the ps2 one

I was NOT ready for that Ohio jump scare. Nearly sent me to the hospital
I never played the stories games due to only owning an Xbox and PC.
But I am always intrigued by them. And will play them soon via emu
