    Totally agree.... Too many people who use flagship devices primarily don't put themselves in the shoes of the intended market.
    How many buyers of a 6A are really going to be coming from a 1-2+ year old device with a high level processor, 120hz refresh rate, wireless charge, etc, etc?
    For most people in this segment, this will be a nice upgrade in performance, experience & security vs whatever device they are coming from.

    Reviewers are complaining about the 60Hz refresh because they have been spoiled by 120Hz. The Pixel 6a isn't for them - it's for normal folks wanting a decent device on a budget.

      The average one plus device uses at least 90 Hertz but for the price with software updates the 6a isn't bad at all. I'm late to the game 😂

    I just purchased the Pixel 6a, you are spot on. I know about refresh rates, but I don't care much about that because I have other important things to care about, like the camera, the flagship processor and Google security and updates. Those things are worth a lot more than the refresh rate. I also appreciate the smaller size, it's what I'm looking for (coming from a larger phone).

  • @ChrisXif1
    @ChrisXif1 2 роки тому +62

    While the Pixel 6A is indeed the "budget" version of the Pixel 6...it is also the smaller and lighter (and to me the "right sized") version of the Pixel 6 series. I fully understand what refresh rate is, but I value the size/weight of the Pixel 6A more than 90hz refresh. I'd happily pay $50 more for a Pixel 6A with 90hz refresh if it was available, but since it's not, I'm buying the PIxel 6A because I value the things it brings to the table...and the price is good for what it is.

      Yeah the size and weight to a lesser extent cause I do like my phones to have heft are probably the main reasons I would go with the 6a over the 6. I do like smaller phones and while the 6a is only marginally smaller, every little bit helps to make one-hand use easier.

    Just for giggles, I turned off the 120hz on my 13 Pro. I did this when the reviews for the 6A started coming out. I noticed it right away. Then a funny thing happened. Within 2 days, I adjusted to it. I think people like to grouse about nonsense. Now, Apple is pretty well optimized and 60 hz on Apple is very smooth. So 120 is buttery smooth. Still, I haven't missed it. As I've said before, we're spoiled these days. There are a whole lot of good phones out there. 'We' just like to tear stuff down. Pity.

For me the reason I won't buy it is that I feel that they cut too many corners to keep the Tensor on the spec list, and it seems that this is the very thing that was causing so many software issues in the first place. I took the chance after watching your videos! So no system update yet (still April) and my issues so far are...none
    In screen fingerprint sensor works great/ battery is giving me plenty left at end of day (on 4g still though) / no wifi or cell radio issues/ build is far superior to prev 4a/ no other finger prints unlock device other it did seem to send my biometric from the 4a and had 3 fingers registered all mine.

      When the P6 dropped to $499, I picked one up on the spur of the moment. My old 3XL has been fine, but we will be moving abroad soon and I wanted a supported phone I can live with on the road for a year. I added Pixel Buds-A for $79. With taxes and everything it came out to a bit over $600. Then I did research on the P6 quality control issues, perceived bugginess, etc. I decided that it was too first gen for me and refunded without even unboxing.
      I tried the S21 FE for a while and didn't like it, either, in the same $500 price range.
      When I found I could pre-order the 6a and get $100 back for my 3XL (which is what I paid for it 14 months ago) plus the Buds-A for free, effectively it brought my price down to $269 if you value the buds at $79 or $249 if you would spend $99 on the buds, which I found compelling enough to commit.

      I guess unless the government implements something like that for phone manufacturers as well, we'll keep getting the same 'Bargain in the US, luxury in India' sort of pricing; at least until the powers that be at the helm of Google are sure that the demand for their phones is enough to warrant local manufacturing. I currently use a Galaxy S22. People gave this phone a LOT of hate for battery and all kinds of software bugs right after it released. Yes, the battery was weak the first couple months after release (I got mine a month after it's official release), however consistent software updates quickly fixed and improved it along with machine learning. This is a BIG thing I think reviewers need to touch on every single time. Machine learning is very common in mainstream and premium devices. iOS has used machine learning in all of the Bionic chipsets. It is what makes those chips so darn efficient. BUT it takes time for the phone to learn your habits and allocate battery resources to where it needs to go. Same with Samsung and same with the Pixel series. "All day battery" isn't just bc the battery is big enough. A LOT of what phones are capable of comes down to the capabilities of the software WITH the chipset. I have read all kinds of articles and watched lots of videos for the 6a. I have one ordered and arriving in two days. I'm not going to lie, I have no doubt it will replace this flagship grade S22. This is the first and only flagship phone I have ever purchased and I only ordered this model bc I got a huge discount by switching to Fi. I thought "wow a flagship phone for only 500 bucks! I pay that much on a mid range phone when I buy a new one. This is a great deal!" Truth is, I don't even use over half of the features they pack into this thing. I QUICKLY found myself missing the clean and uncluttered UI of my Motorolas, of which I have owned many bc I like that brand and have faith in them through practice. I am imagining the 6a will be the same. The display I almost constantly have set to 60 on this phone anyway and the only feature I have found that I like is actually the AOD (I have never had a phone with this feature before, so that may just be subjective anyway). Anyway, I got off on a tangent, but I love technology too especially phones and I love your videos more so than bigger named UA-cam creators bc you actually look at the devices for what they are. Because of this, I find yours to be more realistic and educational. Bottom line though, there is a stigma that these manufacturers spread like a plague that premium flagships are the only way to go and that is simply just not true from my experience. I have always bought mid range phones from brands that I trust and have never been disappointed. If I needed more from my device, sure I'd def go with this S22. Since I don't, it's kind of meh to me in practice anyway.

    I'll probably get the 6A to replace my old Nexus 5X, but I'm quite frustrated being stuck with 2015 tech honestly... The Pixel 6 is perfect on paper but too big for me. Plus the price point is just off in Europe, 459€, for 50 extra you have the 6 or the S21 FE, off sales. And finally the battery life don't seems to be better than the 6, so all in all it makes a lot of things to digest.

    There has to be corners cut/trade offs on these types of phone. Shopping in this price range you have to prioritise features you want in a phone as you won't get the full package. I use 60hz currently on my OP Nord even though it supports 90. The difference to me is negligible, so I'd rather the lower rate to extend battery. Have ordered the 6a as it fits with my top priorities in a phone - software, cameras and processor. Sure there are things I'd like such as faster charging and maybe more ram but I know that in this tier of phone you have to pick your poison.

    It might be the same lens as Pixel 2-5 but, Sony did improve that lens over the years. I know that because that lens originally would not support 4k 60fps (only 30fps), and it was improved to support 60fps.
