I miss the days when reviewers, would use and test the phone for a minimum of a week before they pushed out their reviews. It seems nowadays they have to be the first to have it uploaded instead of investing their time. They also seem to forget that people who are going to be buying a pixel A series, either have a previous A generation or an older android / iOS device. Somebody who has a superior 120 phone isn't going to be exchanging for this, so it always amazes me when they compare a mid range phone to a high spec one. That's like saying this Ford does 0-60 in 6 seconds where as my Bugatti does it in 2 🙈.

My Pixel 4a has aged really well, it is as smooth as it was when new. The only problems are reduced battery life and the USB port. I think Pixel 6a should have been priced like 50 USD cheaper. My 4a has the same camera, a headphone jack, way better fingerprint reader and a compact design.

    • @Matt-Are-Gee
      @Matt-Are-Gee 2 роки тому

The port on my Pixel 4 is shot. Won't charge, and whatever the issue is, it ruined a cord. Apparently it's a very expensive fix, I already tried the standard toothpick trick to get the lint etc out that accumulates in your pockets. That happened to my Pixel 2 charging port as well and toothpick and/or a floss pick fixed the issue. . I have an active job that requires moving around a lot so I assume I would accumulate some nonsense in my pockets. I was told it would be $300 to replace the port, that's not happening. So I have to rely on wireless charging which isn't the greatest since I don't have the pixel stand. I'm using a Pixel 3 XL as my daily driver because the 5 year old battery in the 2 is shot at this point.

Thank you for speaking about this because it's true most reviewers review the most top 10 devices and then that's what they get used to and that's great but not everyone can live in that lifestyle where they always get all the choices of every phone at the most maxed out specs so I can completely understand what he was saying when he was talking about the 60Hz screen but he's taking out of consideration the price of the item and then he does bring up the point a lot of phones have 120 Hz screen around the same price and that's true for example what let me know if there's more but the Samsung a53 has 120 hertz screen plus it has an OLED screen so it's big bright and beautiful however it has a very low powered chip so it's a bit laggy and yes there's other 125 screen items out there and that's great but I think it's it's just becoming a bit too biased and his standards with his standards being only the top tech I don't really see him reviewing anything like within budget or mid-range it's usually now just the most high-end items there might be something here in there but most I don't know I do look for reviewers within something that is more so within my range I guess of course I do check out from kind of time the high spec ones higher spec items for example like you know the I iPhone 13 pro max or the s 22 ultra yada and they're great but then I look down at the mid-range and think oh this offers most of what that offers but it's much cheaper or the word people like to use as much more affordable and it's it still does like the best I don't know for example the Pixel flooring the reason why is one of the best selling mid-ranger is because it was just for 349 this thing is just perfect or yeah it has some flaws for sure but it has down most of the most sorry just talking right now but it has most of the best features out of like an optimum level so good battery life cameras freaking awesome especially for the time and my in my opinion I believe it was flagship at the time speakers were good I wish they were loud but they were good still The screen beautiful I switched from my S9 Galaxy S9 to the fix 4a and even though it was a Snapdragon 7 was it 730g on the Pixel 4a as opposed to the Galaxy S9 Snapdragon 845 so it's a lower processing ship It did have more RAM so I had 6 gigs of RAM versus the 4 on the S9 but it If Justice smooth however actually it did feel more smooth up until now I'm getting some just till now this is years I was at 2 years ago I'm getting like minor bugs but yeah

Coming from a Pixel 4a, I'm not the least bit concerned over 60 Hz refresh (that's what all of my phones have been, from the Galaxy S3 to the iPhone 6, the Pixel 2 and now the Pixel 4a). I'm sure if I had become accustomed to 120 Hz it might be jarring for a time to go back to 60, but that's just not an issue for me. My main concern is losing my rear fingerprint sensor for an in-display sensor -- how reliable will it prove to be, how quick (but also secure) it proves to be, etc.

I saw the videos he made on the Pixel 6a and while he has good points to consider I didn't care for the complaints he had. For example, he complained about there not being face ID, only a 60 HZ refresh rate, and no wireless charging. I don't use face ID, I still find charging with a wire more convenient and quicker, and my Note 9 has a 60 HZ refresh rate which to me still seems smooth. Moral of the story, there are reviewers with bad takes however MKBHD just lives in a tech bubble, he is not a bad reviewer. I take his words with a grain of salt, just like with anyone else, but there are definitely those just wanting to click bait or generate views through drama.

@@DWtechfan I wouldn't go as far to say that Samsung's phones are trash. The A53 might be a good phone but I did find it odd at the mixed reviews across a wide range of channels where the reviewer either hates the Pixel 6a or they give it praises and say it's a good phone. What's more is that the channels that trashed on the Pixel 6a they all recommended the A53. It might be a coincidence or there is something going on I am not aware of. Of course they could also be watching MKBHD's podcast channel.
In any case I listened to what they all said and didn't think the things they complained about were a big deal. I might regret pre-ordering it but I was in the market for a new phone and this phone seemed the way to go.

@@DWtechfan U are not better than him. Actually saying "trash Samsung phones" doesen't go at your advantage... If you are a Samsung hater and a Pixel fanboy your opinion is worst than his and by far. He actually said that because Samsung phones are very well balanced products unlike this Pixel which is not really well balanced at all. Putting a high-end chip in a device with a 60hz screen and with 18w "fast charging"? And if we put the price in front of all that, a Samsung a53 makes the weight and easily stands up to this pixel. Especially since photos and videos on smartphones are extremely overpriced. There is also Samsung's one ui overlay which is one of the best on the market and very often when a new version is released, there are no major bugs or other problems. It shades a lot with the Pixel 6a/6/6pro which apparently have big bugs, fingerprint reader problems and so on... Here are perhaps the reasons for his choice, a choice that I understand

It's what YOU, the user are going to use your phone for that determines which features are most relevant to you and which phones provide the best combination of those aspects. AND, price point that your wallet dictates. I am not a phone gamer, but like stock android, midsize phone, mid tier pricing, and a really good uncomplicated reliable camera. Okay after 9 months of flawless use of the p6 pro, I've found a huge issue (at least for me). Whenever I use an external mic (I have two and multiple cables), their are these constant weird audio artifacts. I've done countless testing, toggling every single setting and I can only get it to go away is to record in 1080/30FPS. Anything more than that, and I get the audio artifacts with an external mic 90% of the time starting at an average of about 20 seconds into the recording. I believe this may have been with the latest update, but not sure. I did not detect it previously but just upgraded my mic recently and now it's occurring on both of them. This also ONLY seems to be occurring with the native Google Camera app, and not with Filmic pro so this screams software issue. I prefer the native camera app because it seems to have better auto focus and auto white balance. At this point, I'm betting it is a universal issue but would like to confirm with others who have the equipment to test it with.

You mention Android 12 issues. This is the first time I heard about that, as after I got Android 12 on my Velvet, it fixed ALL of the issues I had with my Velvet previously and then some. My Velvet is perfect now. Maybe I'm in the minority?

Yeah I'm not really sure what Google was thinking pricing the 6a at only $150 less than their flagship 6. It would have a much better chance at success if priced $50 less it's one of those psychological tricks where the first digit being 1 as in the 6 only being $150 more than the 6a and people more easily justifying paying that versus seeing $200 more if the 6a was $399 which would give more people pause to pony up that additional $200 and just settle for the 6a instead.
The 6 is easily the value king smartphone of 2021-2022, we'll have to wait and see if Google keeps it up with the 7. If so, even though the 7 series is clearly a refinement of the 6, I may still end up upgrading from my 6.

From Pixel 4a to 6a its good upgrade. 60 hrtz was never a deal breaker for me. Only feels less compact compared to 4a. And missing rear fingerprint, especially that gesture to slide notification through it.

I think is not just concern about the 60hz,d phone is really clunky and kinda buggy, even the finger lockscreen....MKBH is not being biased, look at he's review on Nothing phone 1, straight to the truth, he doesn't praise the phone and he won't say u shouldn't buy it...he is just helping you not to be disappointed if you're having higher expectations about the phone.....nothing phone 1 is even better than this in my own opinion

The phone is not clunky. At all. And it's not buggy. That's a bad misperception from the old Pixel 6 experience. The nothing phone is fine. But it's not even available in the U.S. so it's really kind of moot recommending it to anyone when the only way you can get it is to pay $800 on eBay. But if you're in India where they're both available, that's a great option to consider for some of it's features.

Well ya know some act like they are taking the phone to track day for a race. It's a smartphone.. lol You buy it, and you use it to do texting, surf the web, use it to take photos... I don't know what people expect to do with their phone. If you're buying a phone for high-end video and intensive stuff then don't be a cheapskate and buy the most expensive one you could find with the best specs, otherwise this is what it is It's available for people who don't want to spend a ton of money to do the basics. For the money you really can't go too wrong with it if you just want even a second device. With a trade in of 300 bucks it's really not bad of a deal even for a second phone or for a family member.

I have the iPhone 12 as a back up phone. And for a 60 hz screen, it always looks buttery smooth. I hope the Pixel 6a matches that experience. On the S22 ultra, I tried 60hz and did not like it and quickly changed back to 120hz. 😅

I think that a lot of well known tech tubers do a disservice to their subscribers by giving hot takes that is bases on a bias rather than true research. Yes the pixel started off great but then had a bad turn. If I can give my opinion: Android 12 was rushed out. It is much more polished now but, when it did when it came out android 12 felt like a beta rather than a finished product. And that is because Google hyped the Pixel 6 and 6 pro so much they had to push out the phone without extensive in-house testing. It hurt them and now people who are android purists like MKBHD are kinda turning on google. I believe this can be a good thing and a bad thing but, it depends on how its done. Google deserved the critiques they got from TechOdyssey, MKBHD and others. Android 12 was a hot mess. I believe the problems on the pixel devices will be fixed with android 13. I believe a lot of the issues were software related. But to shoot a phone down because it does not meet a certain standard that it does not belong in is wrong. The pixel 6a seems like a good device and I would actually recommend it to someone coming from an old Iphone or an old android device who needs something new. Hopefully Google will do the right thing and be more cautious about rushing products out. It can have a negative effect. And FYI apple has rushed out things also and got criticized for it. But they learned from their mistake. Hopefully Google will learn theirs.

I had to go down to 60hrz on my s21 fe or it wouldn’t last a day. I’m over the 120 thing to be honest I think all phone should be 90hrz as that’s the sweet spot IMO iPhone scrolls very slow, and if you want to talk about Jacky.. just opens the Gmail app on an iPhone and scroll through its at 30hez and this is done on Purpose by Apple so you use their desiccated mail app. To me that’s a shifty move on there part.

I still think this should've gotten 60Hz. And the reason this didn't get high refresh is not because of cost, but because they shot themselves in the foot with the Pixel 6 having a 1080p 90Hz display, and they wanted this to be a clear step down, for almost 200$ less.
If Google made the Pixel 6 with 1080p 120Hz, which is still a step below the 2K 120Hz on the 6 Pro, they would be able to slap a 1080p 90Hz display on this and still make it a step-down.
I mean really, price argument falls face first because this is definitely cheap to make, using 5 year Old Cameras, custom silicon, and more, which all actually reduce costs a lot more than we consider. There definitely was budget to add 1080p 120Hz as well, without changing price

The average user should never compare themselves to MKBHD. Dude rates other phones as the best of the year yet consistently will use Apple because he is in video development and therefore wants a MAC for Final Cut Pro and to reap the benefits of an ecosystem. This affects very little of the common users. He still makes good content, but the reasons he chooses a particular device are usually never applicable to the normal person.

I think he compared it to the scrolling of apps in the iphone which has slower animations. It takes more finger distance to scroll up or down, which may be perceived smoother.
He should've done like a ufo monitor framerate test to back up his claims, since a test like that is controlled.

I just ordered a pixel 6A on preorder. Google is giving free pixel buds to preorders, and I traded in my pixel 3A phone for $300.00 from google . This leaves my balance at $149.00 and with the free $99.00 pixel buds is a great value. I tried out the phone at BestBuy thursday and it was great. Simply loved it. I played with it for a couple of hours and I saw no problems, Beautiful Screen very smooth, no problems, and finger print sensor worked fast and great every time. For the small amout I will be paying, to come from a pixel 3A to a 6A. I don't miss the wireless charging as I never use it. How can I go wrong?
