There was a survey where 20 million people judged 3 photos taken from several popular phones Pixel 7A won.
Ive had the 7a now for about a month. It is a solid choice. Good software. Absolutely great camera and camera software for the price. Ok screen (Not as bright as my previous phone). The camera bridge can get scratched easily, so get a phone case as soon as possible (Dont even have it in your pocket without first putting on a phone case, preferably with a slider infront of camera). Big advice though, as soon as you get it, google "best settings for 7a", "best hidden functions 7a" etc. The phone/screen/battery is so much better if you know a few hidden settings (developer), for example 90fps instead of 60, turning off hidden useless functions that drain battery (the battery is actually quite good with the right settings). With the right settings the phone goes from "ok" to "great value at its price point". All that said, highly recommended (with the right settings on/off)
I wanted to buy this phone, but I heard from a lot of videos that there are so many bugs in the software. Is it true?
Can you recommend a good cover?
@@blu3clown471bugs are in all smartphones , definitely can be solved via updates
How about the battery charging features. Im not sure if its new on 8 but is it true that the charging slows down as its reaching 100%? (To kind of preserve the battery). Thanks!
What function do you turn off?
Pretty balanced and quality review. Keep it up
Great to see you still doing these reviews Matt, first class.
Great info, thanks. I just purchased this yesterday on sale at the Google Store for $374. It will be a great upgrade from my current Pixel 4a.
Excellent video. Thanks. One thing that confuses me in phone reviews is all the emphasis on glass or plastic. Most people put their phones in protective cases and never see any part of the phone except the display.

How's the battery life
@@catgpt-4 I will let you know 1 week from now. I will try to use it a lot like a "typical day" and get back to you. On a heavy use day my phone normally lasts me a solid 8-9 hours on a single charge.
How many years does pixel provide software updates for 7a
The battery will last me a good 12 hours on heavy usage typical day. I can stretch another hour or so if I keep it in black and white "Bedtime" Mode.

great, GREAT video!
Your dining area and living room is gorgeous! Looks very cozy :)
I tried switching things up when I moved to be more wooden and vintage compared to my old white furniture that just looked very ikea. Thank you!
Big thanks for the overview of this phone. My trusty 3a is dying and this review gives me a worthy replacement. Very likely I will buy this phone based on your thorough and sensible recommendation.
Great review
I remember my Pixel 2 XL had better photos than my iPhone 11 when I upgraded to that. I enjoyed 4 years of the iPhone, a good all round phone. I'm back on team Pixel this year with a Pixel 8 Pro ordered and on the way. I've missed the power of the Pixel's call screening (The Pixel 2XL had great call sceening) and am excited to see whats new and improved with Pixel's software.
My pixel 7a is out for delivery now! Can't wait ❤
Great video ☺
So I am left wondering strictly speaking in terms of camera how does it compare to the Pixel 8?
Im using 4a for 3 years . I like minimalist phone like this ..nice compact phone...but finger print sensor not working...but no problem i don't need though
Your accent is very interesting. It almost sounds American or Canadian but with a little irish sprinkled in
Thank you for the video, it was very helpful. I decided to pick up a Pixel 7a to hold me over until the Pixel 9 series releases later this year.
How's the battery life so far?
I'm not having any issues so far. It lasts me through the work day. I usually make it to 7 or 8pm before I have to plug it in due to the 20% warning.
I'm thinking along those lines. Considering returning my 7a and getting 8 Pro or waiting for 9. You think 9 will be a big improvement over 8 pro?
I thought you might be Canadianish because you pronounce all your words correctly but this is where my suspicions were confirmed: @ 08:38 "al-U-minium." Busted! You wonderful person that's polite and thoughtful!
🤣 I’m moving to Toronto in June so I better adapt my pronunciation
Matt thank you for the excellent video. I must say I think it also depends what phone you are coming from. First off, I want to say I love Apple phones but after 9 years of Apple you need a change. Came from the iPhone 11 to the Pixel 7a and I must say it was like a breath of fresh air. From the ability to customize the widgets on the phone, to the build in features of screening callers this phone is amazing@! I just got the phone today and I already unlocked most of the features since I am a bit of a tech guy, mostly for P.C. But I think most Apple iPhone user if they ever tried out any of the Pixel phones, I think most would agree that the Pixel phone is an excellent phone to buy. I decided to try out the phone since it is based on A.I. tech and I could had purposed the 8 but I figured since A.I. technology is relatively very new especially for phones I figured I will purchase an A.I. phone later on when the A.I. tech is a little more stable. Right now, A.I. is pretty much within the Beta stages in development. Great video and thanks!
Honestly I never use any of those ai features on my pixel 8 pro. Good choice dude I’m glad you like the phone. When you think you can buy maybe 3 for the same price as 1 iphone
Great video as always. Can't comment on the phone though as I'm a Samsung guy as you know.
Hi there, new subscriber here, did you tweak the astrophotography of the milky way, or is it straight out of the camera, i have a pixel 6 but was not able to test it on that mode. hope u can reply. thanks
This morning I preordered the new Pixel 8a. I’m so excited!
That’s awesome dude enjoy! I don’t have one yet but I imagine it’s like my current 7a crossed with my pixel 8 pro color and design
I'm loving the size of this phone. Getting my wife and I this phone soon.
The ultra HDR on the 8 series is a game changer in photography. It makes pictures lively and when you use it against other phones you will not like other phones that don't have it. I have it on my Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus
Lol! I'm an 8 pro user. My friends got the 7a, he has Ultra HDR too. What are you talking about?
The Pixel 6a has it.
@@darcastromero i think it was added later on a update on older ones with the pixel camera 9.2 app update in december which allows older phones like pixel 6 the ultra hdr mode and tested out a pixel 7 for couple of month which didnt had it yet, however it feels the 8 does more processing to the ultra hdr photos (for some ppl its too much and depends on scene tho). so fair to say he didnt knew about it.
I'm debating between this phone or the Nothing Phone 2, I want a phone with great camera and video taking while being able to play games without it lagging too much.
How have all the updates and android 14 changed the temperature management and battery stand by time ?? Also has android 14 taken away the sphere photo ability on the 7a ?
Its been around 5 months and i am loving my 7a.
I upgraded from 4a.
Sadly, cannot use 5g with pixel phones in the Philippines.
Already bought it)
I still use it beside my 14PM. Mainly for testing/developing apps. It's a Solid phone
Great, now I will save for this.
Hey Nice video! But how did you managed to get the google search bar in the home screen like that can you please share.
Is the video of 7a still more shaky than 6a? I couldn't tell for sure, because you only provide 1 sample comparison of the video between those two
How is the heating issue like on this phone now? I used to hear it had one, especially when that 4K60Fps went on for 10mins+...also, what is your primary camera for shooting these videos if I may know?
I have samsung m21.
Looking for a better phone.
Found this one.
Fits my needs perfectly.
Remembered that I have recently bought samsung smarttag(s) 2.
Googled if they are compatible with google pixel.
Frick they aren't.
So I'm stuck with a samsung phone for now(I use them too frequently to just sell them and buy a pixel).
I will probably go for a samsung a35 or a55 if they will differ more significantly than the last gen but I will miss the smaller size, slow but still useful wireless charging, better camera and pixel-exclusive features...
Or I'm looking for a used samsung s23 but unless I find a quite rare deal for it to be in my price range that won't going to happen...
Just my mind rn...
Personally I paid the extra few quid a month for the pixel 8 the updates guarantee for even longer , more features now and future features . Updated in other areas and better battery in a more nicer compact size and a solid back .
I have been using this phone the moment it came out, preordered it and got it delivered when it hit the shelves if not earlier. I can vouch for most of the things Matt has mentioned in this review which is quite comprehensive and covers basically all aspects of this phone. Where I disagree with Matt is the battery life and face unlock on this phone. Battery life is ok at best on this phone, I am not a heavy user. I do not play games on this phone or watch videos and use it without 5G for most part but it still struggles to last a full day. I have to charge it midday most of the days.
The face unlock does work but only when there is ample light, as soon as it gets dark the face unlock would be like it was nice knowing you i'll see you during daylight tomorrow.
Apart from these two points, this review is spot on and the phone itself is not bad. If you can live with subpar charging speeds, below average battery life and okish face unlock then this phone is actually a nice budget phone with camera (stills not video) and software being its greatest strength.
How did you added notification icon in the serch bar on home screen?

The Pixel 7a and Pixel 7 were going for the same price, I went with the 7a for the bigger megapixel camera. It's a good phone, nice shape, perfect size like you say. Great and thorough review, thanks.
That doesnt make sense. The megapixels are not important. Pixel 7 is better
@@BubatzBoss
1. **More Detail**: A higher megapixel count means the sensor captures more detail, providing more data points for the image processing algorithms, potentially leading to better results.
2. **Better Zoom**: More megapixels can improve digital zoom. When you zoom in on a photo, you're essentially cropping the image. Having more megapixels means you can crop in closer while still maintaining good image quality.
3. **Improved Low Light Performance**: More megapixels can contribute to improved performance in low light conditions. The algorithms can use the additional data to better reduce noise and enhance details.
4. **Advanced Features**: More megapixels can enable advanced features like computational photography. For example, Google's Super Res Zoom technology uses the slight hand movements of the user when they take a photo to gather more data, which can be used to enhance the resolution of zoomed photos.
5. **Flexibility in Post-Processing**: More megapixels offer more flexibility in post-processing. You can crop, zoom, and manipulate the image in various ways without losing too much quality.

Watching this on my 2020 OnePlus Nord. Back then I was interested in getting a Pixel 4a, but chose the Nord after endless delays with the UK launch.
Why am I watching this video then? Simply because as excellent as my Nord is, I would prefer a smaller phone. The Pixel A series caters to those that appreciate a smaller form factor.
Does it get hot while in use or when gaming?
And is the storage enough without expansion?
There are actually phones that are water and dust resistant even bellow 300$.
And not all or most of the phones like you said have 4k 60fps recording.
Other than that it was a nice video.

If you're not buying the 7a for the color or size then just get a 7. Specs are a tad better and it's probably the same price. I'd even are the 7a shouldn't exist.
I'm still using a Pixel 6....but when I upgrade later this year, I'll probably skip a generation and go straight to an 8 or 8 Pro. Especially as the new 9 will be out in the summer. I just don't think it's worth getting a 7 now.
After comparing the specs of the 7A and 7 I much prefer the 7A for what I want.
Not everything is reflected in the specs. The 7 has much higher build quality. You will notice it when you hold it.
Get the 7 over the 7a if they are in the same price range. The 7 is indeed better built and has better screen. Don’t just look at specs alone, go see and try the phone in real life.

Is heating issue is real issue?
I love the 7a!😍
I thought I would be downgrading from the Samsung S22 to the Pixel 7a. But turns out, it is a "better" phone in my opinion. Just the cameras alone blow away a lot of the competition. Even those above its weight class. Tensor G2 is imperfect but is much more stable than the SD8G1 from my experience. While the charging speeds are garbage, battery life has become much better with every update since Android 14. The Pixel 7a is undoubtfully one of the best smartphone to get on a budget although I'd argue that its not worth the initial $499 price. The previous $449 would better match its value in my opinion.
Are you saying the battery on the Pixel 7a last longer than on the Snapdragon S22?

Great camera
I've had the pixel 3a pixel 4a and now the 7a. Love the Pixel phones in general but not liking the talk to text feature on the 7a. Every time I pause it throws in a period and starts a new sentence. It's driving me crazy. Is that a setting?
Recently got a Google 7a phone 2 weeks ago.
What I do not like about the phone is the finger lock insensitivity. About 70% of the time, it will not unlock using your finger scan. My apps unlock with finger lock much easier too (which is ironic). And if you use a screen protector, it makes finger unlock so much worse. Had to use my phone without a screen protector.
Edit: I will say that you should make sure your finger is dry, clean, and not slippery when using finger unlock. Also make sure your phone screen is clean of dust, oils, and other things before scanning your finger. This helps some but not always. Sometimes, just swiping your finger across the scanner first to "clear off" any oil/dust residue (before properly scanning) helps also.
Power and side buttons are located a little lower than they should be. When I put the phone into the car phone holder, the right side clamp ends up pressing down slightly on the Volume Down button on the bottom edge. Not good...
Hence, will somehow need to add something to the phone holder to hold the phone up higher.
Phone brightness just seems more dim than I expect it to be? I can increase brightness but I feel I'm always adjusting it. I have adaptive brightness turned on which helps but I don't think it adjusts the brightness very well either. Hence, I have to adjust frequently.
The keyboard isn't as accurate when typing. Mispellings happen often. There's a lag/slowness when typing.
I hate the quick start menu/notifications at the top. Even without notifications in the quick menu, the quick menu still shows up big when pulled down.
Bluetooth doesn't seem to connect well like 50% of the time. Tried the connection with both my earbuds and car at different times. I would disconnect and reconnect several times until finally it connects.
I also do not like how Bluetooth doesn't connect right away and you have to press the Bluetooth button in the quick menu AND THEN press the "switch on" button just to finally switch it on. Sometimes, you might even have to select which Bluetooth device you want your phone to connect with (when it should be connecting automatically anyway).
My last 2 phones only needed me to press the Bluetooth button on the quick menu and it connected automatically to my earbuds or my car. Kind of disappointing...
Wana upgrade from my 3 year old Samsung galaxy a13 and want to get the a7 ore the pixel 6pro wich schould I get me cuz Wana get an New camera on my phone to film some cars for my tiktok would be it enough?

Just got a 7a for $350 and so far its a great upgrade from my Samsung S10+
I have a pixel 4a ( i know I'm still in 2021), I'm planning to switch but 8 pro is literally twice the cost of 7a here in Germany. I know 8 pro has it's crazy features but overall do you think it'll make it future proof or will i regret buying a 7a for 399 euros?
I was thinking the same, but the things that make me not buy the 7a immediately are mostly not much better on the Pixel 8 Pro (Battery, Storage). One advantage of the 8 Pro is the camera pro mode which is missing in every other Pixel phone but apart from that, the 7a should work fine imo
@@l8nni for pro mode there are a lot of professional camera softwares tho. But that defeats the whole pixel software camera game. Again battery is the biggest concern in pixel a series

@nccapone344 i actually have the 6, i skipped all of 7. I had 5 and 4a, etc. I guess i have felt the phone get warm before so that wasnt completely accurate, but like not to the point of it affecting anything in any way and usually just wwent away after a little. I think the 7's did have some issues, but I didnt hear much about the 6s and so far the 8s seem to be doing okay.
@PanaMaJwaaRd I was just checking ✔️ because I've heard on the internet and social media about the Pixel 7 series having a problem with the Rear camera 📷 lens shattering due to temperature 🌡 change!
Just trying to find out how true that really is 🤔
I live in Canada 🇨🇦 if that's true that wouldn't be good for me as our weather here changes sometimes 4 different ways in 1 week lol 😆
I might just grab the 8 series or 9 series later this year!
And avoid that hardware defect just in case, that would be my luck lol 😆
@nccapone344 yea im on the 6, which seemed a bit more stable. I remember when the 7 came out everyone talking about the bugs and what not. i think the 9 should deff clear up a lot of these things i think its new g4 tensor chip? Im debating between 8 pro, or waiting, or s24+ right now lol. cant make up my mind.
Used price of 7a?
I broke the screen of my Pixel 6a again so I decided to just get a Pixel 7a. I just want an affordable phone with a great camera. Need to invest on a good case and screen protector this time as i need to keep it for at least 2 years. 😅
Definitely get a tempered glass, the screen scratches easily in general on this phone.
battery is good?
Why does some pixel 7a phone's have that letters at the lower back side?🤔
Found it at a shop new for 260 $. Should I get it?
