    Hopefully Tensor 2 will resolve the extra heat at times.
    They probably felt it wasn't enough of an issue to not release the 6A with the first Tensor. There is enough history with the 6 and Pro without any major overheat issues.

      I lost money on my pixel. It used to turn off in the summer heat of 19 degrees in the UK.
      Gives hot warning in sunlight use. Use as navigation maps in car is out of question.
      Also wireless charging and low volume issues.
      Too hot even to hold.
      Got replacement from google, same issues. Back to iPhone 13.
      Reddit is full of people reporting these issues.
      I thought 6A would be better.
      Edit: i bought pixel 6A, same heating issues. Returned for refund.

    Yeah... I don't buy it. The Pixel 4a has had overheating issues, and still does to this day (I have one). 4 mins of recording video at 1080p and it stops recording and tells me the phone is too hot, and that I can begin recording after it has cooled down. RUBBISH! It happens to the Pixel 4a 5G. It happens on the Pixel 5a and it is STILL happening on the Pixel 6a.
    It's completely ridiculous. If you think this is going to improve on your 6a, you're wrong. It's been an issue for years with Pixel phones, when using the camera. I had an Honor 8 I bought about 5 years ago, and was able to record for up to 20 minutes at 1080p without the phone overheating and the recording forcibly stopped.

      Same here owner of a pixel 4a 5G and experienced poor thermal management throughout the life of the phone (and poor thermal management on the Pixelbook as well). Sometimes my phone would overheat and stop working on short drives. Now I leave the phone near my cars dashboard vent when I'm driving so it doesn't overheat. I miss my old one plus phones - I never had this consistent problem on one plus, Motorola, Samsung, Microsoft, Apple and even Kyocera tech. This is the only tech brand I've had overheating problems with.
      Think about it - Google is offering massive discounts to pixel users. I can get the 6a for about $186, with free pixel buds if I trade in my cracked pixel 4a 5g. The catch? A crappy phone and brand loyalty. So, I'm never buying a pixel phone again unless they fix the persistent thermal issues, battery life (6 hours really???) and google's racist reputation.

    Thank you @TechOdyssey for making the video and talking about the overheating issue. I also saw Mark's video. All fair and points taken. I'm not a tech tester, and I do rely on what I hear from testers like you to tell whether a phone is worth buying. Just wanted to say I appreciate your work. I will wait and see how it goes with the one I will get (still on its way). My guess is that the answer will be the universally adopted one: it depends (on where you are, how you use it, etc.).

    • @TechOdyssey
      @TechOdyssey  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you. I talk to Mark on a daily basis. He was telling me how quickly his overheats yesterday which is pretty crazy. I tested mine again yesterday. 4 1/2 minutes to overheat recording 4K60 out in the sun. At room temperature and normal temps it's not an issue. Another tech reviewer buddy even recorded continuously in 4K60 indoors for over 2hrs straight. But, nobody is experiencing overheating from regular use non-video recording related that I know of.

    • @C3lloman
      @C3lloman 2 роки тому +1

      Well, one could hope so, but thermal management has really more to do with the hardware. If the phone overheats when recording in 4K 60, that suggests there are issues on the hardware level. There isn't much left to "optimize" as such in basic tasks like recording video.

    • @CustomName47
      @CustomName47 2 роки тому +1

      @@C3lloman Not true. Video encoding is one of the reasons for needing so much computational power, so changing the encoding or optimizing the software can solve the problems. Had mine for a few days now and the warmest it's gotten so far was the initial cable transfer, and it felt no different than a phone that was fast charging. Even during a 90 minute Pokémon Go session in a park when it was 80° outside. (Although the battery did go from 95% to 71% after that) I should say that I don't have 5G turned on, because that it's a battery drain and 5G coverage in my area kinda sucks. (Despite being in a somewhat big city)
    However I do think this is a legitimate concern. Had a 5a last year and it was a lithium ion bomb waiting to go off, couldn't play Pokémon Go for longer than 10 minutes or use the camera period. Worse was Google customer support not wanting to address it and told me this was normal.
    While I'm glad my 6a isn't having these problems, it's ridiculous that others have had them like my 5a did, and this is their newest hardware.

    "It's not going to overheat" Maybe, but it does get so hot that it won't charge while in use. 80% of my phone use is gaming and it won't charge up. And this is with a fan-cooled controller. At this point, I'm worried about permanent battery damage.

    My pixel 5a was complete garbage. It was always shutting down from the heat. Forget even using it for 4k 60fps video.....3 min in and BAM....shutdown. That's one of the reasons I upgraded with the prime sale days to the 6 PRO. So far , so good. My 6P definitely got hot the first couple days, but can confirm after a week of daily use, I haven't noticed that anymore. Also, same with the battery usage. Initially, it was burning through battery juice, but now I get home without about 40% usage just from normal use throughout the day. Now , that isn't spending a lot of time watching videos or making calls. Just checking web sites, email etc, from time to time, but overall I am loving my 6P so far. The pro camera quality is amazing compared to the 5a. That damn camera had so much grain and noise in the photos when zooming in even slightly that it was ridiculous. My pixel 3a took great photos. I was so bummed when I upgraded to that 5a.

      I think you should trade-in if you think its a good deal.
      Your concern of not getting the $300 is valid because there are some people that have complained, but just know that the minority complain more than the majority praise, and if you still dont trust, you could film you putting in the 4a5g with the 6a (if you end up getting one) and use it in case they dont offer you the money claimed.
      (Filming specifically with the 6a is to show that you didn't steal the video from somewhere else as they'd probably see the google photos data)

Even for a £400 phone this is shambolic. Needless to say I'm returning the phone. Also Google's trade-in is a scam, they don't give you many options to state the condition of your phone so you pick one (aka the wrong one according to Google) and then they return it saying it's worthless. Overall I've lost a lot of respect for Google. Fucking dreadful.

    Just wondering if the issue with the phone overheating result taking 4k 60 gps video has something to do with the live hdr+ the system is doing. With so much processing going on with 60fps at such a high resolution, I would not be surprised that the system is overheating.
    Is there a way to disable the hdr+ on video in the camera app? And if so, I'd like to know how it affects the heat and the quality of the video output without hdr.

    After six months of use it was fine but now in the summer in listening to a podcast on the deck in 80 degrees (in the sun) the phone shutdown due to overheating after just 15 minutes. Repeatable issue. I've just tried the hidden developer trick of turning some apps from the default graphics driver to the system driver so I'll see if that helps. If not, I notice that YT reviewers usually don't have a case on the phone while I have the Poetic Guardian. Maybe the problem is my enclosed case and I have to risk lower protection and get a minimal case. But either way the engineers need to do a lot better job of testing these very expensive devices. Or just stop using stupid glass and switch to aluminum so the phone is its own heatsink.
