My Family had 2 of those 68 XL's fastbacks.. Both pea green, one with white interior and 1 with light green interior. One of them remained in our family until the mid 90's.. Great car, easy to fix. Vacuum headlight doors.. It was the best car to learn on and it was a boat..
I really enjoy your approach to "will it run" videos. You guys are more about preservation of the car than forcing something abandoned to take a desperate last breath. Things like changing the oil and filter and cleaning out the pan before cranking the engine makes so much sense. Cleaning up the car (or at least the engine bay) makes a lot of sense too. Working when you're up to your elbows in crap isn't good and viewers can't tell where the filth stops and the car begins. Your videos are all a bit different too, which makes things far more interesting. Great stuff.
@@BudgetBuildzanother good one....that car needs a 390 /4 and a posi!!! She'll make a great sleeper with some work!!! I swear y'all find em..... I could never get that car ....my paint code is tuxedo...so those locations aren't idea for me .. Y'all need a tavarish project next .. like a Fairlane Galaxie Skyliner
You and your dad are my favorites on UA-cam! It reminds me of the time i got to spend with my dad wrenching on old cars in his garage. Keep up the amazing work gentlemen!!!
My late Aunt Charlotte bought a brand new 1968 Galaxie 500 Sportsroof/ Fastback back in 1968. It was a light /pale green color, and either a dark green or black interior. It had a front bench seat, don't recall what V-8 was in it, but it was a V-8, automatic transmission, power steering. I do remember it ran like a top, and she drove it for several years!
That was absolutely 💯 incredible what you and your Dad did there. I can't believe watching you pull that out of the woods with four flat tires and trees pinning it in place. In the woods. A foot tall of leaves and tree limbs covering it. The inside looked worse than inside a dumpster. And you and your Dad got it cleaned up and running and driving. Congratulations, just Amazing!
My Dad always bought Galaxies. My mom got her driver's license at 50 years old and my dad bought a 68 4 door dark blue 500 when it was only 2 years old as he usually did and that car was beautiful and was very special to the family. It had the 390. Then he bought her a 72 galaxy 500 and would hand the previous ones down to my sisters. Then he brought home a 76 ltd brand new and she turned it down for a little red Granada. She didn't want the big cars anymore but that didn't stop my Dad from buying ltd's and Crown Vic's for a second car to save mileage on his truck. Very nice cars to bring back. They don't build them like that anymore
Love all your videos. Removing all the garbage and cleaning it off. It's truly amazing what can look like a totally lost cause to a decent starting point. I used to buy them out of a field too for couple hundred but you guys definitely got me thinking I walked past some good buys. God bless.
It’s becoming my favorite revival channel! You guys do an amazing job! I love watching you and your dad working together, I wish my dad was a little more handy and not afraid to get dirty to work on my projects with me! Man you guys have to get one of those El caminos, I have a 79 Elco just like that black one, I would love to see you guys working on it. Thanks and keep up with this great videos!!!
Sweet ride! I’m glad you went the extra mile and pulled the pan, I usually just pull the motor at that point so I can clean and detail the motor and engine bay
Reminds me of two Cars in my family as a Kid!, My Folks 1968 Mercury Montego with the same 302/C4 Drivetrain it also had A/C!, My Sister had a 1970 Ford Galaxie XL with the 390, Both were great Cars!
Another Good Find.. Nice Car.. Great move dropping the pan before you even turned the engine over.. My one piece of advice ?? Run a quart ( or 2 ) of mystery oil threw it and let it idle for a bit.. Then... Oil change it again.. that pan was VERY sludgy so.. that might clear that lifter.. Looking forward to more vids with this car.. You and dad are killing it
Good call on dropping the oil pan. I did cringe a bit when you opened the hood for the first time and didn't oil the hinges before closing it but maybe you did that off camera. Love your videos. Keep them coming.
My friend had a green one in the 90s that his dad had put an old thunderbird engine in and man did it fly! We got air over a hill one time in the dark! lol
Great video!!! What a beautiful car!!!!! I always wanted a 68/69 Galaxie 500 in that body style with the fastback!! Thank you for saving this one for sure!!!
love the car brings back memories from when I was in the service had a 2 door LTD with the wonderful 390 had so much fun with that car. a few speeding tickets
They’re neat! ‘66 and prior came standard with bucket seats and center console. By ‘67 everything was an option sadly 😔. The emblems/badges, upholstery and wood grain were really all you got standard. This one did atleast get the hideaways! The warranty tag confirms it is an XL too.
Very cool 😎 car , used to own one of those cars loved it nice to see yay you got to get this one running so well. Looking forward to seeing your next adventure.
I like old car 🚗 and truck like you and your dad. Keep up the good 👍 work on them. God Bless 🙏 you and your family and your dad family. From Jim and is family
You need to keep up with the "Will it run Jones's", and buy a plastic ( Not inflatable), Kiddie pool for catching all the fluids ( antifreeze/water ), when taking things apart. Oil drain pans just are too small. ! PS: RISLONE is the best oil additive for getting rid of valve ticking....been around for 75 years....works great !
Yep, Quaker State oil was the worst oil to use back then, if you didn’t change it OFTEN! Even when you did change it, you became "job security" for your local auto mechanic!
Nice, always enjoy y’all adventures, this old ford is a good candidate to try and save, body style,is the right one for die hard enthusiast.great video as always.just keep on doing what you do best.be safe.kudos to you and your dad.😎😎😎👍👍👍
I reckon you have a daily driver there. We did have Galaxies in Australia, they were huge compared to locally made or british cars but I have never seen a 2 door. I enjoyed watching you bring it back to life.
In the '90s, before I had a experience with a Ford that hardened my heart against them, I had a friend whose mom dated a guy with a similar Galaxie - his was red with a black vinyl top. My friend and I offered to wrench on the car for free, but the gentleman said no, because he didn't want us hot rodding it. I swear, all we wanted to do was get it running again🤞😁 Michael, if you and your Dad give that 302 a little more cam, a 4bbl and a intake to match, along with dual exhaust, I wouldn't mind.👍
That valve train noise is exactly what marvel mystery oil is for because it cleans those oil passages while you drive it then when it clears up just change the oil again and it’s good.
Good catch on cleaning out the sludge and I was wondering if lifters would be a problem. Guess if you do spice it up a little then cam and lifters might be a good idea
Thirty Seconds in all I could say was, "Oh No!" Now as I return to see how... I was thrown for a brief loop...That music you used during cutting down the trees is the same music that Ron Pratt of that towing youtube channel uses at the ending of all of his episodes.
My sister had a 1969 Fairlane with a 302 in it. The biggest problem those cars had with the fast back windshield was you could not see behind you very well, and tell where the back end of it was at. Man could you put some speakers back there for a stereo!! 🔊🔊
The aerodynamics of that body style earned it the nickname "poor man's Torino Talladega" amongst stock car racers. They'd re-body old 1965 factory Galaxies and fill the fields at the high banked tracks.
I have not read all the comments, of course, but those old Fords if you remember, we had to hold the selector stick up to the left and then hit the ignition because it was a bad connection always in the steering column someplace.

Ya know, that's the first time I've ever seen anyone do that. Smart move.
