Simon says: I’ll fix the gear selector. Then, no crowsfoot wrench? I’ll make one. Then, I found the problem and it’s inside the transmission, so I’ll open up an automatic transmission while lying on my back under the car. Found an internal part is worn because of 62 years of use. So I use a welder to fix it. All done! An unbelievably great video! Well done, Simon.

Your love for animals also scores extra points with me.
Am I the only one who gets satisfaction from seeing the automatic transmission fluid keeping all the internal components clean and shiny after all those years?
Nope, I enjoyed it too. Unless it was replaced at some point, it’s remarkable how clean it was inside. Even though it’s protected from damage it was still surprising considering how many similar parts of this very old car had serious issues.
This has become my go to channel in the last few weeks. I feel a kinship as I work all day on my houseboat so also covered in rust and oil. When it's time to relax after that I put a Simon Fordman video on and kick back with dinner
My father bought this model in an electric blue colour in 1962. It was a magnificent car with white and blue upholstery. It just floated along. Excellent work and video.
@@harrycallahan9518 He eventually traded it in against a 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback. This car was restored in 1996/97. It belonged to the family of a teacher of mine back in grade school. I don’t know what happened to it subsequently.
I gotta tell you, I'm a somewhat seasoned electronics engineer, and when I see this level of tech work on mechanical components and small parts, not sure why but it feels nothing short of magic to me. Specially when it works after put all together again. Amazing.

This is the best car video I've seen and I've seen thousands. I took a long time to watch it from start to finish. I did not want to miss a second of it. First, he starts off with a cool car (convincing me it doesn't have to be a two-door this time). Then he goes in real time, step by step on refreshing it, not perfecting it. I don't know how he knew about that transmission trick. Then he takes his '65 to the key shop proving he's a Galaxie man. There is no annoying music, no talking and trying to be funny. It's real, clever, and informative. I'd like to see the '62 Galaxie on a long trip. Well done!

Where did you learn to understand cars so well? I studied at college to be an auto mechanic when I was a teenager, but I learned almost nothing there, a young wind in my head. But thanks to the fact that I was interested in technology and mechanics since childhood, I learned a lot myself. When I bought my first car, a 1987 Subaru Leone Wagon, I was 22 years old. Since then, I have been repairing and servicing my cars myself, it is no longer just an interesting hobby, but a lifestyle.
There is nothing like driving a big warm American car around in the winter time. That nice engine heat is unbeatable. Thank you for a great video, your work is top notch.
I have three 62 Fords in my memory bank. 1st grade, Debbie Stalling's parents had one like this. Burgundy four door hardtop. Next, my Dad bought a four door sedan (rust free faded blue paint) just to get the engine, a 292 I think for his 55 Ford pickup. I took the ps pump from it to put on my 61 Thunderbird. Finally, I was installing satellite receivers in the 1980s and went to a bar in the absolute middle of nowhere on a state highway. The owner had a blue 62 Ford four door sedan parked in the parking lot. The parking lot was absolutely and I mean completely made from beer bottle caps. Thanks for bringing back memories. I do see a 62 Ford occasionally but it is usually a convertible or a two door hardtop.
Love that Galaxy, my stomach turned around when i saw it at first but it came by after the scrubbing of the interior and pressure wash. I would not have guessed that it would come out so nice, i saw one once in deep blue that was a nice combo with all the stainless/chrome, i fell in love instantly.

Exactly something I plan on doing with my grandson now that I finally retired. Nothing flashy, just want something that is all there and ready to clean up and drive. Great video, sat here with my wife. She liked the vacuuming part for some reason, lol!
I want your videos to continue non-stop... every time when I see that the video is close to the end I feel sad... love your videos and your skills... thank you
You turned a what looked like a piece of junk into what is probably the most promising restoration project I've ever seen on YT. You literally fixed a major transmission issue on a car that is over 60 years old like it was a walk in the park. Props to you! You have a lot of promise!

Been binging on your videos and liking everyone of them you a huge UA-cam star and people are starting to recognize your hard work. GREAT VIDEO!! When I was 10 years old, my cousin Vic came by our house to show my brother his brand new 64 Galaxie convertible. I remember it like it was yesterday. They let me come for a ride on that summer night in Chicago. I was totally freaked out that the console gear selector lit up the gears. It was gray with red interior.
I’m just amazed in the range of your skill set. You seem young but the knowledge of a seasoned mechanic. You definitely grew up with a wrench in your hand. Love the videos.
i had a 1964 custom 500, which is a stripped galaxie. mine had two options, a 289 v8 and an automatic trans. no radio, no power brakes, no power steering, single speed wipers, i really liked that car. my dad bought a 1967 4 door brand new, i think it cost in the nieghborhood of 3400 bucks. his had a 390 four barrel, power everything, light blue. he drove it until the mid 1980s. great videos man,
Thanks Simon , I came here to get away from nuclear war. awesome job on the transmission! two thumbs up. I wish I had bought that little chevy truck you had, That was a great video also ! I need to get me a welder, Best regards chuck.
ive been enjoying the process . at first i was questioning why you weren't exploring the brakes thoroughly.. checking for leaking wheel cylinders.. but i see its all in good time.. one step at a time. thanks its been one of the best video's ive seen man.. way cool
When I was watching you cleaning that hot rod it struck me that when those cars were designed and built it was done with style and class. Just look at the design on the C pillar. Those cars were designed by people who, whether they knew it or not, were building a car that would still be a beautiful automobile 60 some years later. Total respect for what you do with, to, and for them. And just for the record, your bumper modification technique had me laughing my ass off! Rock on!
Relaxing, fun, and highly entertaining . brings back memories . makes me wonder what happened to the Dodge I had back in 1968, when I was in high school . man, I loved that car . your videos are addicting.
wow Simon your video is superior not only in editing but content, classic galaxie, but the ability and detail that you have , very encouraging and honestly this is like therapy for calming the soul, but at the same time screaming you( the viewer) to get motivated , awesome , thanks

I already thought the whole car was going to end up in the vacuum cleaner lol. Once again, fantastic camera work and editing. Greetings from Berlin, Germany
Jo, aus Hamburg auch ein Grüßchen 🤜🤛
Stumbled across your page while searching for some rebuilder sites without all the weird haircuts and endless chatter.. I loved your style, the skateboard your great camera work.. Thank you so much

Complete delight! Your videos are worthy of Oscar!
Keep it up! I look at you in Ukraine and it supports it very much. You revive the masterpieces of American cars. They are admirable! Sincerely - your fan!
Quel plaisir de regarder tes vidéos
Exactly something I plan on doing with my grandson now that I finally retired. Nothing flashy, just want something that is all there and ready to clean up and drive. Great video, sat here with my wife. She liked the vacuuming part for some reason, lol!
My great-aunt's funeral will have to wait
I want your videos to continue non-stop... every time when I see that the video is close to the end I feel sad... love your videos and your skills... thank you
Watched both episodes with my dad. Amazing work, it kept us talking for the whole videos. Cheers from Brazil
Cheers!
You turned a what looked like a piece of junk into what is probably the most promising restoration project I've ever seen on YT. You literally fixed a major transmission issue on a car that is over 60 years old like it was a walk in the park. Props to you! You have a lot of promise!
Thank you
Simon your a huge inspiration in a cruel and unfair world keep fighting these cars and keep upgrading as you always do. Been binging on your videos and liking everyone of them you a huge UA-cam star and people are starting to recognize your hard work. I know I have even when you post mistakes and frustrating situations you just don't give up and I appreciate that.Have a great day brother.
The stop motion bits were a nice added touch. I'm am continually amazed at your vehicular trouble-shooting skills. Well done.
That bumper straightening bit was almost hilarious. Great job. Love that car!
I must say the absence of narration is refreshing. ❤
This young man,is my hero! He can fix most everything! I look forward to the new video’s. Keep’m coming!
i had a 1964 custom 500, which is a stripped galaxie. mine had two options, a 289 v8 and an automatic trans. no radio, no power brakes, no power steering, single speed wipers, i really liked that car. my dad bought a 1967 4 door brand new, i think it cost in the nieghborhood of 3400 bucks. his had a 390 four barrel, power everything, light blue. he drove it until the mid 1980s. great videos man,
The lack of talking adds so much atmosphere! Excellent job of positioning the camera and showing us everything. Top channel.
Rock on!
Dude has achieved such skill that the wheels themselves are put into place!
I’m an old car guy. Love your show and trouble shooting the problem. Stay with the basics.
A 62 Ford Galaxy 500, 4 door hardtop. What a car! She deserves you! It sounds really good. I bet it's fun to drive. Another Great Video. Thank you.
Relaxing, fun, and highly entertaining . brings back memories . makes me wonder what happened to the Dodge I had back in 1968, when I was in high school . man, I loved that car . your videos are addicting.
Такого авангардизма ещё не встречал! Варить внутри АКПП - это что-то!. Съёмки камерой очень контрастные и четкие, просто загляденье
That's the kind of patina you just can't fake. Love it!
wow Simon your video is superior not only in editing but content, classic galaxie, but the ability and detail that you have , very encouraging and honestly this is like therapy for calming the soul, but at the same time screaming you( the viewer) to get motivated , awesome , thanks
Great job, Simon. As usual. Always a relaxing time with a beer and a bowl of popcorn. Cheers.
Simon
It is truly amazing to watch you do so much with so little. It takes me back a ways. OK, a long ways. Then there is your talent with the videography and editing. This too shows promise for you as a career. Just do me one favor...........VOCs. Don't get them in you. Don't get them on you. You'll thank me when you are 50. Keep up the good work.
