Disregard my comment on HDR10+. At the time I had the Panasonic UB820 connected to the TV directly.

LOL! I was about to say...that is not possible. When I spoke to Denon engineers in May of last year, they stated they need to make a new product for HDR10+ support. My guess is they will add HDR10+ for 2020 or 2021. Will HDMI 2.1 be added to that list? We still don't know and they aren't telling us anything.

I purchased the AVR-3312ci eights years ago. It was a great receiver, but it didn't work with 4K videos. I just purchased a Sony X950G 4k TV. I found a great deal on a new Denon AVR-X3500 a few weeks ago and jumped on it. The last Denon gave me issue free service for over eight years, so I had go with Denon again. Sadly my Oppo 103 disc player doesn't support 4K, so I got a Panasonic DP-UB820 4K Blu-ray Player. I have very old Paradigm Monitor 7 fronts and surrounds that are still kicking it. I have a SVS PC-2000 sub that works great with the Denon. Loving my new Denon setup with all 4K components.

I bought this Denon 3600h and within a week I had swapped it over for the Denon 6500, because of lockdown I was able to have an extended audition and after 3 months of ownership I was fortunate enough to be able to return this one as well. I can see why Denon is so popular with their fancy graphics, heos app, easy setup and of course the ease of use of interacting with! But if there's one thing Denon does well, is being able to search out your weak links in ones setup and making them become apparent!
So thanks Denon I love my new 'shielded speaker cables'! 😃

This receiver has gotten great reviews all around. Now that Denon has released the X3700H with HDMI 2.1, I'm hoping the X3600H will drop in price it's definitely on my buy list. Haven't had a good surround system in years, but now that I have a house and a 65" 4K TV time to start putting something together. The home came with ceiling speakers, which appear to be SoundCraft, which I will eventually re-task as height channels.

Longtime listener first time caller ;-) I have this receiver and the same Pioneer 73 series speakers though I have the full system center floor standing and bookshelf using the Pioneer BS 22 for the rears. I’m using it mainly as a pre/pro and only using the internal amps for the rear channels. I had an Onkyo RZ 810 but I was not a fan of the Atmos processing but the power of the Onkyo was FAR superior. Up mixing to Atmos is light years better on the 3600 and can at times rival true Atmos encoded material. Great review by the way, and a heads up to anyone interested in picking up a pair of stellar bookshelf speakers the 73 bookshelf is on clearance at Wallyworld for an astounding $299 I just picked up another pair to complete the set. There truly is an advantage to a matched LCR setup and a complete setup is even better if only for the unified appearance! Cheers all!

I got the Denon AVR-750H last year and only use 5 plus a subwoofer and the thing pushes all of them better than the Onkyo amps I've had in the past. I still think I'm hearing sounds from outside my den only to find they're on the movie/program I'm watching. The calibration mic is so important; take the time to get it right and most people with a limited budget will be very pleased with Denon especially since the wife will make you keep the damn sound down anyway; so low volume fidelity is also important. Your show just showed up on my PC I'm glad it did, enjoyed it and subscribed, THX

I still have the old monitor series Polks. Monitor CS2,Monitor 60,Monitor 40 and an SVS PB10-NSD. Would the Denon x3500 or x3600 be a good fit? Looking to upgrade to a 7.1 setup down the line.Do you suggest an amp? Thanks man keep up the great work.

Picked up the 4500H as I already have the 3300w (for sale). 3600 didn't seem a big enough jump from the 3300.

Hi , I have to say I love your channel , and the content that you provide , very informative to home theatre lovers like myself.
I have the Denon X 3600, and I just purchased a Marantz MM7705 5 channel amp, To power my front stage and my left and right surrounds. I am going to leave the four atoms height speakers for 3600 to power So my setup is a 5.1.4
My question is , after I hooked up my external amp , does the receiver automatically know to power up those five speakers ?or do I have to go into amp assign, and reconfigure my set up. I have tried doing that, but don’t see any pre-outs To assign for a 9.1 channel set up.
I don’t see a real difference as far as the volume level is concerned. Example if I have a volume set at -12 DB after installing the external amp, it still sounds as loud as it did at that level before the amp ,When the Denon was powering all nine channels. I think that it sounds clearer though ,is that what I’m after?
Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you again for your amazing content, keep up the great work ,!,

Hi from Australia. Thanks for the review and info. I just received mine and noticed that although as you mention the unit only has 9 "amplified" channels it has binding posts for 11 channels. I understand that it can process 11 channels but assumed that this was done by using the pre-outs for the additional 2 channels so confused as to why it has 11 binding posts. Sorry in advance if this is a silly question!

  • @virtualdanger

Great review Tha_VillaMan; I'm looking to pickup this receiver, and have been watching reviews and reading about it. What's nice is that you were able to cover some aspects which were still new and informative, that weren't already covered elsewhere.
Had a question; I get that it can process 2 additional channels, which can be realized with the addition of a dedicated amp. But you'd also mentioned using connecting a 5.1 receiver, and wanted to understand that better. Was is just a suggestion in case people had old 5.1 receivers, in which case they could use it like a 2 channel amp, or is there more that I'm missing?

    • @tHAvIlLaMaN
      @tHAvIlLaMaN  4 роки тому +2

I didn’t mention connecting it to an old receiver in the review, although you could do that if the old receiver had the right RCA inputs.
What I said is you could connect it to and external power amp if you wanted and have anywhere from 5.1 up to 11.2 channels in your system

Good review. The X3600 is now very close to the X4500 spec and its a lot lower in cost. I assume Denon will seperate them a bit more with the next X4000 range receiver launches (presumably in 2 or 3 months). If they don't, I am not sure many will choose the x4?00 receiver unless you are desperate for the slightly greater power, in which case get an external 2 channel amp from Crown etc as you will get far more power and unload the Denon for the other speakers.

I've been looking for the right AV receiver for a while now but due to the fact my Sony STR 1080 is almost burnt out, I will be purchasing one this Friday, the fact my 20 month old STR is burnt out due to ventilation ( i assume ) so thank you for mentioning about the ventilation with the 3600, but what I'm thinking rather than just keep the front glass door open this time, I'm going to take the back panel off plus drill loads of holes on the base aswell as the one side panel! I've now realised this Denon 3600 is about as big as I could go due to size constraints!
So I'm hoping you're going to tell me with the amount of prep I'm doing, that I should just about be ok, lol if you can't advise me, are there any 9.2 AV you could recommend? if not what should I be looking for in the specifications for a AV/receiver which doesn't get too hot ? Lol, Knowing how many a/vs you test i Would love to get an answer from you,
i got to buy another t-shirt anyhow!!!

New Subscriber... Excellent video thank you. I'm a novice when it comes to this subject but i'm looking to upgrade. So what I would like to know for my upgrade from 5.1 to 5.1.4 is,,, does the 4 additional elevated speakers i'll be adding, have to be "special" in any way (dolby atmos rated or enabled) or can they have similar specifications as the speakers in my 5.1 setup? Or can you recommend affordable atmos speakers. And is there a shortlist of receivers I should be looking at to power these speakers. The Denon AVR-X3600H looks interesting.
I have the original KEF KHT 2005 which still sound great I think. I was going to use the spare KEF KHT 2005 I have for the atmos speakers but is that a good idea? Apologise for the long winded question... Thank you.

Great review! I have been using my X3600H for a couple of months now and I had nothing but praise for it. I have it setup in a 5.1.4 of Klipsch Reference Premier speakers. I have it hooked up to cable, Roku (steaming mostly Disney+, Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, Starz, CBS All-access) and a U-Turn turntable. I get a lot of use out of Disney+ because they have the most content having Dolby Atmos. In my experience the Atmos effects add a whole new dimension to action movies. You really are getting emerged in the sound.
I think the sound emersion is best demonstrated in the subtleties of sound it adds. I use a scene in Avengers Endgame, where there is a street fight happening in Hong Kong. There are street-gangs fighting in the street. Above the street level people fighting, screaming, explosion s going off, falling from above is glass and and all sorts of building pieces falling. To top it off there is a storm with hard rain falling down hitting the buildings, awnings clothing, hitting the different surfaces on the ground of pavement and puddles. One of the gang leaders is wielding a katana, slashing people on the street. Then Hawkeye is seen and he has his katana out ready to take on the gang leader. Now we have the sword fight with both katanas making that shimmering steel sound as they fight. The X3600H keeps up with all speakers including the Atmos speakers with all of the big sounds and the overhead sounds including all of the subtle sounds. I was truly amazed when I heard it.
I think you must use the Audyssey calibration software in order to get the proper sound balance between the normal 5.1 surround sound and the Atmos (height speakers in other formats). Audyssey is really very easy to use. What would be complicated is working to get 10 speakers manually calibrated. Now that would take a lot of effort compared to using Audyssey. Now I, too, did need to modify some settings Audyssey made like crossovers and I boosted the dB level of the center channel because to my ear I wanted more center volume without increasing the volume of all the speakers. It’s kind of like adding salt or pepper to your individual taste rather than adding to the cooking pot.
The Denon X3600H so far has enough power for the room and the speakers I use. If I need more power in the future I can always add an amp. I like the way Denon has included almost every audio software in existence with the exception of Auro-3D. At the moment I don’t have anything that needs Auro-3D and I don’t think I’ll ever need it, but I’d you do, then the 3600 isn’t for you. The 3600 works great, sounds fantastic in 2-channel stereo, 2.1, 5.1 and with the 4 height channels. I would definitely buy it again, I would highly recommend it to a friend or family member. Like in most things it doesn’t have all the things that people ask about or want to buy, so it may not be the right thing to buy for you. However, if you don’t have a need for any of the features the 3600 doesn’t have built it into the the product, the X3600H may be the right AVR for you.
For me, the 3600 had everything I had on my must have list plus, it had a whole bunch of stuff I don’t want or need. So I look at that as a bonus. I’m the kind of guy that usually over-buys and I end up buying a product that costs a lot more and has bells and whistles I will never need but I buy it any way. So I didn’t have to over-pay to buy something that meets my needs and wants while have a bunch of stuff I’ll never need. It’s kind of new experience for me.
I bought mine in the 2019 holiday season in the $800 to $900 range. Denon has has the pricing of the 3600 on a yo-yo. Denon bounces the price between $1100 and the $800-$900 range at least 3 to 4 times in each it came out in the 2nd half of 2019. I got mine during one of these price drops. Then I tried something just to see if it would work, I simply asked if there was some way to buy for a little less. The guy looked in the computer and talked to a couple of people. When he returned he gave me another $50 off. Try it, you aren’t haggling, you are simply asking a question. You have nothing to lose so smile and ask politely. If they don’t lower the price it’s no big deal. but if they discount it, you get a bigger smile on your face. Keep on the lookout for any Denon or online retailer price drops. I know some retailers have open-box units on sale that still have the full factory warranty.

Best Buy had it at that price and then I just asked for a discount. It could have been the day, or they were slow or they had an internal sales incentive expiring and a sale was needed. I have been in to Home Cinema since VHS/Lasserdisc, and there is always one thing that no matter how many times people try to explain it to me I doesn’t sink in, here me out, I have a house either side of me so bass management is crucial, now, this is the strange bit, I have done my sub crawl, and found the best place I can, as its a small lounge (15’x18’) the thing I get stuck on is the bass, if I have my crossover set to 80 on the receiver it is way to deep and obviously send bass to the floor standers, that’s not the problem, because I have little fingers that want to touch stuff I don’t want them pressing the remote and blowing my floor standers, so what I do is set my Crossover to 240 for ‘All’ set all my speakers to ‘Small’ and I let the sub deal with all the bass, because there is no way, even with the limit set that they will blow my sub, and the bass doesn’t sound boomy or lost, it sounds good, I get the rumbles, the footsteps, even the little thumps and wacks, as my sub is doing all the work, even though My front 3 can handle the 80-120 crossover, so why does it sound better when ‘all’ the bass is going to my sub ?
Laymen’s terms please...anyone ? I am not new to this, I just do not understand bass, also I was told many moons ago that if your sub is at the front of the room then the phase should be ‘0’ but if it’s at the back if the the room then ‘180’ is that still true, I have the late 2017 Denon 2600h, UK based.

i own the 2600h as my friend and reviewers biged it up. my issues are first i have to keep it on the older firmware as it doesnt work with my xbox one s if i update it when it comes to hdr and 4k.
even with the latest software, and the oldest, going into settings for audio and selecting options in the ref area sometimes kicks hdr off and i end up haveing to select a different hdmi and back again for it to return hdr.
lastly and i feel this is a big miss by denon, it doesnt work with my google plasy player as i cant send over by blue tooth my playlists. instead i have to use heos and creat new playlists. why in this day and age cant it just do both. let me cast via blue tooth my music on my android phone by google or any other player with blue tooth suport?
yes the sou7nd is awsome but its far from the perfect bug free experience and it isnt the exellent everyone says, not till it allws the basic us of bluetooth on a phone and not push heos and sort out the kind of bugs i asumed a 500 pound amp would not have.
part of me withes i tried the sony one but hey too late now.
voice operastions with my harmony work great with it and yeh sound is amazing. but it needs to be a smater device
just a warning all those google play playlists you have get ready to remake them on the dennon amps.
8/10 is a very fair rating as sound on my 2600h is great but the bugs and heos take at least 2 poiunts off. if i was a music lover id be giing this amp a 6/10, luckly im a movie guy so its a 8.. And heos works well when you realise to add a song to a playlist you have to open playlist tell it to play from phone, then make sure you press play now and replace que. then go to the song you want to add and play now. then save plaYLIST. ITS STUPID ITS ANOYING AND BECAUSE IM STUPID IT TOOK ME A FEW WEEKS TO CLICK ON HOW TO DO IT. WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH BETTER IF I COULD HAVE JUST PAIRED MY PHONE to the denon amp and played my playlists or songs directly but dennon doesnt let you do that because oftheir badly made heos app. i know theres alot of denon fans out there and yes i never heard a bad review but be warned if like you you want songs from your phone to go directly to the denon amplifiers it wont . At their prices it should.
im saying this for al;l new buyers to be aware as no one else is saying this stuff and truthfully if all people do is tell you the positives denon whos 2600h i like alot is not gona impliment the missing basic features that in 2020 really shouldnt hell 2017 they really shouldnt be missing. its like buying a new sports car with no bluetooth or usb port.
