That's true, except if you have American Express credit card; you usually get a little more warranty on your product (about a year). Though I had a faulty Dell laptop that had logic board issues, and after a replacement AND having to go as far as contacting *Michael Dell* through some foundation he was working at (Dell originally gave me a run around) I got a new laptop... Which shortly after was discontinued... And now that laptop has sleep/wake issues. Do not buy Dell laptops!
@@ArmandGirard I am aware, but after about a year, American Express wouldn't help me, which led to a whole s**tshow, which is still ongoing, as each laptop I get sent as a replacement has something wrong out of the box (sleep issues, electrical logic board issues, etc.)
I have an old MacBook Pro from early 2015. It has a problem with the battery; it says battery Service is recommended, and the 13inch 2015 Macbook is not yet vintage. I use Mac Big Sur macOS 11.6.8. Today, I will be contact Apple support for this problem, I had it seven years , I hope it fix or replace and I will be use my customer rights law.
Always been fairly pleased with apple. I had a MacBook Pro 2017 and the Touch Bar had some weird lamination defect, apple replaced without any fuss. also, back in the days of the iPhone 6, apple replaced that outside of warranty too. Good to know about these rights though. I would probably still get AppleCare for more expensive products for the accidental damage cover though.
That's what I call a great service Daniel. I am pretty sure not enough people knew about it. Unfortunately there's no cover in my country but there might be a lot people would benefit from it in other regions. Cheers!
A lot depends on how friendly your Apple Store is. I’ve gotten several free repairs when I shouldn’t just because they were being nice. For instance, my wife dropped a 6-month old iPhone in the toilet, and we told them that. They replaced it anyway even though they had no obligation to do so. I took in an iMac for warranty repair on a bad drive but asked for them to fix my cracked screen. They told me it would be $75 to fix the screen, but when I came to pick it up, they told me they decided to fix it for free. Sometimes you just get lucky.
You must be the luckiest guy in the world 😂 I’ve been charged nearly full price with applecare+ for issues like a small scratch on the back of a phone meanwhile just wanted a front screen fix
Good luck trying! I bought a MacBook Pro 2 years and 1 month ago, now there’s Verticle lines down the screen and horizontal line flickering. Brought it to Apple and they wouldn’t replace it, said there was also no signs that it had been dropped or that there was liquid damage so it is there problem. Got it independently checked and even then they wouldn’t replace the screen. Now have to pay £520 to get an £1900 laptop screen repaired… the consumer rights law won’t always work
6 years is a long time for something to break but if we want to live in a society that is resourceful and that cares about the environment they should make sure manufacturers build quality products that last.
Another thing that works great in Portugal (probably under the Consumer Law as well) is going to an authorized Apple repair shop and saying (in case there is a defect and they refuse to repair/replace it for free) that you do not trust your Apple product and you feel endangered by its malfunction, works like a charm.
It only works with some manufacturers and retailers though. Apple had a well known defective product so would've had little choice but to replace or refund Daniel since it's easily provable in court
For the fellow danish audiance, “consumer law” is the english word for “reklamationsret” and is also 2 years. Not sure if it was mentioned but apple world wide warranty and apple care is covering your product in the whole world as long as there is an Apple store or a Premium reseller / service provider. Where the consumer law can only be used in the country it was purchased, so don’t go buying all your items in UK if you don’t live nearby hoping for a 6 year warranty, unless you wanna travel back to UK for the repair. At least that is my experience
Didn’t work on my iPads but you did get me a new HomePod when one of mine was bricked by software update. Thanks as they got crazy expensive when discontinued them!
Apple might follow the law but won't train its staff to know what consumers are entitled to and enforce those standards. Apple is not alone in this but it is clear that brands rather sell you a repair or new product then do what's right.
I had surpassingly good experiences with apple replacing my AirPods Pro multiple times now. It was first the right one that had like a static noise pop up and always be buzzing when playing bass frequencies and a few months later the left one. Each have been replaced via the send in program and I used the apple support app chat since that felt like the easiest way
If Apple cares so much about the environment they should give you a 10 year warranty to save you needlessly creating any any 'E Waste' over this period🤓
Hello sir I am using iPhone 12 Pro and it fell in snow and now the apple care supports is telling me that it’s water damage and I am not a person who can afford the apple product can you help me out with it ?

I've spent the last 2 hours researching, and I cant find anything that is clear. No even apple’s website has a page to disclose the US’s consumer rights. Then I went on to do a research for other countries, and there it was, top of the google page and in simple and plain English. Has anyone found it for the US? I cant even find forum/discussions. This is disgraceful
As an ex 🍎 employee. This is true. This is indeed only relevant if you bought your product directly from Apple. Consumer law only applies to the retailer you consumed from. Also, doesn’t count when you damaged your own machine ofc. We would actually inform customers of this right upon purchase but people basically forget 80% of the conversation lol. Basically no other retailer than the 🍎 store complied tho, resulting in a lot of people disappointed anyway. So buying directly at Apple might be a good idea anyways.
Hey I'm currently trying to get mine replaced hopefully. When I approach the Store what do I have to say in order for them to get me a replacement of a refund? Since you worked at apple, id appreciate if you could help me out :)
@@Itsme-if1en if you've encountered an issue that is not your own fault, and the item needs to be replaced but is "out of warranty" you can say: "based on the non-conformity clause under European consumer law I think a product of this price should at least last X amount of years and therefore it doesn't conform to the expectations I may realistically hold from a product in this price range." - chances are the employee would go to their supervisor, asking for an "overwrite" so that they are allowed to service or replace your product outside of the standard warranty period. This applies ONLY when you bought it directly at Apple!! Good luck :)
They still have to respect the law for you to benefit from it lol. In my country, its 2 years as well but as soon as you claim your consumer rights, they will smile, take your item for "repair", wait 30 days (the maximum allowed by law for repairs) and return it to you with obvious water damage, claiming you did it. Happened to my sister with her phone from a major service provider. Now your only option is to take it to court, which costs money/time/mental health and most people just won't bother. So there is that. Better be polite when claiming your rights, because it may backfire in your face even in "normal" countries like the UK. And even then, it may not work out.... People are pigs. Actually, that is offensive to the poor pigs. These laws need to be tightened even further.

The Service here in Germany with my apple products (iphones and macbooks) are excellent. I have several issues with my devices and its funny because they just give you in 5min a brandnew or refurbished device after they check the devices and hear your problems. I am very happy with the service and can say that i am willing to pay more for Apple Products than for others BECAUSE of the hassle-free service. My 2018 MacBook had an Battery issue and i had a dead pixel in the center of the display... no Problem: Full Replacement of the Top and Lower Chassis. It was basicly a brandnew device for me after 2 Years of usage! I am very happy with them!
In Australia we have a thing in consumer law called statutory warranty. Unfortunately Apple has a tendency to disregard it which has burnt me three times - faulty 17” PowerBook, one of those 15” MacBook Pros with the dodgy Nvidia graphics card and most recently a USB C MacBook with a non-functional Power/USB C port. Apple has really gone down hill in terms of customer relations since Steve Jobs died.

Very very helpful! That’s my 1st time watching this UA-cam channel and i and extremely happy to find such a useful info regarding products like Apple Thanks 🙏
Here's an easier way. Ask for a CS Code. A CS Code (or customer satisfaction code) is a number that Apple uses to bill the repair to Apple instead of the user when there is no warranty on the device. You can call apple and say "the apple store told me to call you and get a cs code" and usually they cave pretty quickly.
The law is the law Apple should be honouring the law not just if you mention it .....as you say it applies to the seller regardless if you mention it .......
Yeah my first thought here is, how many people paid for a repair, or bought replacements that should have been dealt with for free under the consumer laws. Then again Apple is a US company and none of this video applies in the US.
@@vismortis Yes and in the US consumers are not protected as much as they are in other countries....nonetheless the UK arm of Apple has to operate under UK laws when they operate in the UK.....its shouldn't be a matter of asking "can you apply my local law"?

I was so humiliated! If that’s what they call support than I wonder what Microsoft does.
FYI another thing about Consumer Law in the UK is that according to the ACT, the Consumer has to claim in the first 6 months to actually get the full 6 year coverage. If the Consumer claims the fault after 6 months, it's up to them to prove the device came with the fault. Some sellers such as Apple and John Lewis extend this to 2 years for you to claim a fault. Just put this out there, so people don't get shown the door.

Apple refused to replace magnetic leather link band (leather layers begun separating/pealing off) saying - this specific part of band is not covered by AppleCare+ warranty. In reality they do not care about any "consumer law rights", their statement was - in USA it is applied in state of Maine only. Loyal customer, have spent 10k over last years on Apple products - we do not care :-)
I remember Apple called me a few years ago saying that they would like to replace for free my 2 GB iPod Nano 1st gen. They wouldn't tell me what they'll replace it with, (if I get their new Nano, or a similar one, which at that point was obsolete for quite a few years already), all they said is I will get a new iPod Nano. They sent me a box and I sent it in, and in return they sent a brand-new iPod Nano 6th gen 8GB. Apparently there was a battery problem with that model, and they were offering free replacements to everyone who bought that particular model.
So this caught my attention and I actually did some digging into my own country’s laws about this and found some of interest, thanks for providing some useful interesting information to me, cheers mate
This is completely ridiculous -- the Magic Keyboard should never have been an out of warranty repair, as you stated, it is an iPad accessory and not the iPad Pro itself. Apple should have replaced this immediately at no cost as it was faulty, and it's extremely absurd they would try to charge you.
I already knew this, even when speaking to apple support they didn't appear to be aware of my countries consumer laws - Britain. So had to be passed onto senior management. But it was a broken ipad after having it 7 months, and as soon as they accepted the law my replacement arrived within 24 hours of shipping it. I hope American's have similar protections, as I know EU countries have excellent consumer laws.

@@cameronbosch1213 Several credit cards now offer an additional warranty (my Visa does). Check with your credit card company to see if they do.
@@ArmandGirard I am aware, but after about a year, American Express wouldn't help me, which led to a whole s**tshow, which is still ongoing, as each laptop I get sent as a replacement has something wrong out of the box (sleep issues, electrical logic board issues, etc.)
“”Unable to verify this iPhone has a genuine camera”” is what I got on my 12 pro max after 3 months of use. I will be getting a replacement soon.
Ok. Did you get it repaired recently?
@@hazyproduct1692 yes. They replaced the entire phone for free. The cameras work perfectly now.
I have an old MacBook Pro from early 2015. It has a problem with the battery; it says battery Service is recommended, and the 13inch 2015 Macbook is not yet vintage. I use Mac Big Sur macOS 11.6.8.
The first MacBook Pro 13 came back in March 2016. I got my main second Mac mini (M1, 2020) last Dec 2021.
Today, I will be contact Apple support for this problem, I had it seven years , I hope it fix or replace and I will be use my customer rights law.
Imagine using an Apple product for as long as you want and get a full refund
Always been fairly pleased with apple. I had a MacBook Pro 2017 and the Touch Bar had some weird lamination defect, apple replaced without any fuss. also, back in the days of the iPhone 6, apple replaced that outside of warranty too. Good to know about these rights though. I would probably still get AppleCare for more expensive products for the accidental damage cover though.
That's what I call a great service Daniel. I am pretty sure not enough people knew about it. Unfortunately there's no cover in my country but there might be a lot people would benefit from it in other regions. Cheers!
Great video! Gonna look up Consumer Law Rights in my country!
After this video they are definitely not going to offer you review units. Great video! Power to the people!
I don’t think he gets review units he buys them mostly.
Great Video Daniel. Your helping inform the UK citizens of their right… Yes, Each country has its own local laws.
Where r u from
Customer: Consumer Law Rights
Apple: Why do I hear boss music?
Ireland as UK have 6 years of warranty! Good to know!
True. But isn’t it a little harder to get?
in Australia we are getting taught this in school aka the three R's Repair,Replace,Refund
ZOT always making the most informative and helpful tech videos 😎
Good luck trying! I bought a MacBook Pro 2 years and 1 month ago, now there’s Verticle lines down the screen and horizontal line flickering. Brought it to Apple and they wouldn’t replace it, said there was also no signs that it had been dropped or that there was liquid damage so it is there problem. Got it independently checked and even then they wouldn’t replace the screen. Now have to pay £520 to get an £1900 laptop screen repaired… the consumer rights law won’t always work
So sad
You need to go back and say “consumer law rights” three times then they will take you seriously I tried it today and it worked
I really like the thumbnail 👍
Do you have to build a case? What if my macbook isn’t turning on at all but I’m suspecting that it’s a software not hardware issue ?? Thank you 😭
In Australia, warranty, by law, is 2 years but also “reasonable use” after this, must extend this further!
Electronics are also really well covered in Australia, so reasonable use of batteries etc should be able to be replaced no fuss.
I got a free pair of AirPods out of ACL & a 2016 MBP replaced brand new 4 years after warranty ended. Boy do I love being Australian.
No wait isn’t it 3 years
Cause for me it is 3 years
Like when I searched
The 3 words are really: "I am Groot"
6 years is a long time for something to break but if we want to live in a society that is resourceful and that cares about the environment they should make sure manufacturers build quality products that last.
Thanks bro.. appreciate this video, saved me!
Another thing that works great in Portugal (probably under the Consumer Law as well) is going to an authorized Apple repair shop and saying (in case there is a defect and they refuse to repair/replace it for free) that you do not trust your Apple product and you feel endangered by its malfunction, works like a charm.
I’m confused? How does that scare them
Best video ever. Here in the US will look into our rights and warranty.
Imagine how many people could save their money
It only works with some manufacturers and retailers though. Apple had a well known defective product so would've had little choice but to replace or refund Daniel since it's easily provable in court
Nice it works in Australia as well but it kinda complicated
For the fellow danish audiance, “consumer law” is the english word for “reklamationsret” and is also 2 years.
Not sure if it was mentioned but apple world wide warranty and apple care is covering your product in the whole world as long as there is an Apple store or a Premium reseller / service provider. Where the consumer law can only be used in the country it was purchased, so don’t go buying all your items in UK if you don’t live nearby hoping for a 6 year warranty, unless you wanna travel back to UK for the repair. At least that is my experience
THIS.
I couldn't get my phone fixed because i bought it in the US whilst living in europe...
Nå så man har kun 2 år i Danmark 😅🤔?
Didn’t work on my iPads but you did get me a new HomePod when one of mine was bricked by software update. Thanks as they got crazy expensive when discontinued them!
well damn, i’m american so thanks for making me wait until the end to realize I don’t need this information...
Right wing: BuT butt bUT…SochUlism 😭
so capitalists get to rape the nation blind, while they beg for it calling it freedom.
@TFUSION 🤡
This is not in all countries.. you can see supported countries in the end of the page (Countries that have Laws for Consumer Rights)
Apple might follow the law but won't train its staff to know what consumers are entitled to and enforce those standards. Apple is not alone in this but it is clear that brands rather sell you a repair or new product then do what's right.
Be a Karen and call consumer service. Sometimes being a Karen is OK. Consumer service will call the Store and have them comply. That's what I did.

I had surpassingly good experiences with apple replacing my AirPods Pro multiple times now. It was first the right one that had like a static noise pop up and always be buzzing when playing bass frequencies and a few months later the left one. Each have been replaced via the send in program and I used the apple support app chat since that felt like the easiest way
That’s amazing, but did you do this through the consumer law rights or the one year warranty?
Do they send you a new pair or a refurbished pair
Apple: Nothing scares me but that thing right there **Consumer Law** it scares me.
If Apple cares so much about the environment they should give you a 10 year warranty to save you needlessly creating any any 'E Waste' over this period🤓
Not many people use for more 2-4 years
Lol now they’re going to change their wording and take that out lol thank you this is awesome
considering i just got my phone back after a repair and there's more damage done than fixing i think i need to invoke my consumer law rights
Hello sir I am using iPhone 12 Pro and it fell in snow and now the apple care supports is telling me that it’s water damage and I am not a person who can afford the apple product can you help me out with it ?
Does this go for the US as well? Their website doesn’t let me view USA consumer law
Ya I can’t view it also
I wondering that too
me too
It should work in USA too
I don’t think so
I’m in india and I bought my brand new iphone 11 in 2022 January and I noticed that my phone have constant heating problems and battery drained to 98% in two weeks what should i do to have a replacement of it? It’s under warranty till 2023 January
Yeah USA will NEVER do anything like this
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I've spent the last 2 hours researching, and I cant find anything that is clear. No even apple’s website has a page to disclose the US’s consumer rights. Then I went on to do a research for other countries, and there it was, top of the google page and in simple and plain English. Has anyone found it for the US? I cant even find forum/discussions. This is disgraceful
Heres three more words that might work:
Meet my lawyer. 😂
Unfortunately, these rights are basically nonexistent here in America.
Spoiler : 3 words = 'Consumer Law Rights"
Magic words are, “I guess I’ll just go buy a Samsung then”
Are you serious
Samsung😂
Very helpful if you in the uk well before I spent 10 minutes you could have said that it’s only for uk in the beginning of this video so I wasn’t sitting there waiting
You’re a legend bro. Very informative and beneficial.
Here in Germany with have also a 2 Year consumer law right.
But, besides that i am an apple user since Day one, i have never been refused by any Failure with apple products from apple.
I actually received the best warrenty money can buy regarding Apple... I DON'T buy their Over rated - Over priced crap! Been dealing with computers since CPM was the operating system!
thankyou i am from the UK as well and that's really helpful
Super informative and really
Mind blowing that more people aren’t talking about this. Love the tech vids of course, but videos like this really change the game.Stay on that grind man👌
Until you realize it does not apply to
Do the products need to be purchased from the UK?
The last catch makes the whole thing LITERALLY USELESS for me, as in most cases when sth is broken, it's due to an accident and not a defect...

YES THIS, just this did today and I wanna thank you Lyndon!!!
I went to an Apple Store here in the US and yelled “Consumer Law Rights” a bunch of times. I ended up getting arrested and was told I’m not allowed in any Apple Store from now on. Anyone know how I can get my mbp fixed?
I did this too but instead I got tied down by the apple employees and they all took turns throwing apples at my face and to make matters worse they did it in front of the hot dog on a stick I frequent at that mall!

If you live in the US consumer law IS NOT A THING unless you live in the state of Maine. Bypass this video.
I’m like that’s awesome.
Then I check the consumer rights for US 😒
Won’t work in the US. Unless there is a recall or service program.

Lucky
So this caught my attention and I actually did some digging into my own country’s laws about this and found some of interest, thanks for providing some useful interesting information to me, cheers mate
This is completely ridiculous -- the Magic Keyboard should never have been an out of warranty repair, as you stated, it is an iPad accessory and not the iPad Pro itself. Apple should have replaced this immediately at no cost as it was faulty, and it's extremely absurd they would try to charge you.
I love UK on hearing this consumer rights law, thanks for the info sir...
