I just bought a bloody toothbrush as well! Spent ages looking for one that wasn't made by the two conventional brands. And thanks for sticking up for us Brits :D
four minutes of sponsor talk in a 31min video. Boy I sure do hope they paid you very well - and don't get sued by Apple for literally 1:1 copying their packaging design.
how could insult our clearly superior plugs! hahahaha, they are large but they're so safe and don't fall out the socket like your silly american ones 😂 another great video Quinn
They should get a bonus as it saves them time and money recycling ♻ the old tech or worse just throwing it out (which Apple says they no longer do to be greener!)
23:12 The international dual USB-C power adapter isn’t entirely useless; you can remove the adapter and replace it with an extension cable! (which Apple also still sells)
That’s exactly what I was thinking! My 2012 MacBook Pro came with one of the extension cables but I never used it with the laptop charger. Instead I used it with an iPad charger and made myself an extension cord with 1, high power for the time, usb A port on the end. I didn’t know they still sold that cable today. I might do just that and make myself another, more modern set.😊
That’s exactly what I was going by to say. I even did that with the old iPad charger blocks for the iPad Airs that I gave to each of my sons. I would honestly rather that than the one that connects straight to the wall.
@@bbol745there’s much more affordable 3rd party versions on Amazon, and it being a simple power cord they’re really hard to mess up. I’ve got 4 of them that have been in use for about 5 years now with no problems.
That’s exactly why I got it. I already had the old iPad charger on an extension on my desk and I just did a drop in replacement with the dual usb-c version
The $700 wheels aren't *really* intended as a product to be purchased. Don't get me wrong - they sell them and you CAN purchase them, but the wheels exist to psychologically manipulate buyers of a Mac Pro. The default configuration includes the wheels. You can then choose to remove them and "save" $700, so you become convinced that you've gotten a spectacular deal. It's a tactic as old as retail itself.
@@manupastaand that’s why we like Apple :) it’s not $30 China junk. If that’s “wrong” then fine. Samsung can’t even match apples craftsmanship at more money, because that level of dedication requires so much work and attention you can’t possibly even one off spin something that matches that quality without affecting everything else. Like buying a fucking beemer. You know not even to look under the hood (frankly who drives a beemer knows you can even open it except Alex, 16 in high school) because you will get very anxious very quickly. I’d expect nothing less for Apple to over engineer wheels… I guarantee there’s a million of options on Amazon that “work” for $20
@endoglinetech early phones were mostly samsung products. The displays, dram/nand flash and camera modules were all samsung inside the iPhone. Samsung has always been ahead of Apple in the cellphone game.
I work in IT, and I use the Lighting camera kit on a whole host of iOS/iPadOS devices, but nothing to do with a camera. You can connect a USB Ethernet adapter up to it, and iOS/iPadOS will use it. It's great for quickly "white-glove" setting up a device for a VP or similar, or getting your MDM to push a Wi-Fi configuration profile on a device that is missing it. That adapter is definitely *not* junk.
To be fair to apple, some of these are accessories to old products that they dont sell anymore. But you might still need the accessory. This is a good thing in my opinion. It is what we expect from companies like framework: supporting old products and still selling accessorues/ replacement parts years later even if only a handful of people still use it
And having it in the back drawer somewhere or return to corporate for special order is not gonna take up that much room. I just wish they didn't get rid of some of the other things they've had. had to get a license for snow leopard server off Ebay. At twice the price.
I’m still salty they discontinued the lightning to 30 pin adapter, since it’s the only way to get true line out analog audio into many speakers and cars. Generic adapters don’t work with audio, and the original ones on eBay are getting expensive.
order it online if that's the problem. Stores are supposed to move stuff to clearance and stop stocking things for relics like those Not to mention this is APPLE we are talking about, they don't want people using their old stuff they don't sell anymore, they would much rather you buy a new one and all of its accessories (6,000$ 🤣) it would be different if you could order their older model devices online because then it might justify someone coming in for a lock to their trash can computer, but the only way to get those things now is on the used market Would only make sense for the lock to also be on that used market
@@Punsmaster2yeah but they still support their old hardware for way longer than youd expect, I used a fully supported iphone 6s from release up to the 12 when I upgraded. It makes complete sense for first party stores to carry old hardware, even in a small supply.
Me: “Hey, Apple! Can I get a new iPod touch?” Apple: “No.” Me: “Well then can I get a 30-pin charging cable to use with my comically outdated 1st gen iPod touch?” Apple: “You bet your sweet bippy you can!”
@@iamkablam8096You say this as a joke like its bad? Supporting old products and making sure they dont end up in landfills is a good thing, no? Who cares if its outdated if it works.
As the charger is usbc you clearly aren't meant to have it sat in the bathroom permanently on charge anyway, all I want is for them to make a travel case that can hold the body and a couple heads
I just paid apple $29 Aussie for a new set as I had worn out my last pair. As he said, they sound decent and the wired mic makes calls as clear as a bell. I'm not the annoying guy at work who puts their phone on loudspeaker if I need two hands.
I’m a heavy traveler, and carry a pair of lightning and 3.5mm EarPods everywhere. They sound almost as good as my 3rd gen air pods, and don’t have to worry about losing an air pod while sleeping on a plane
Yeah, crazy to say they are old junk. Use them almost daily. And had airpods too but they dont last any longer then the cabled once it feels like. So much cheaper to replace the earpods
Agreed. They're also the only wired headphones I've owned that don't regularly crap out after a few months to a year. A pair have been attached to me PS4/PS5 controller for half a decade now, and are still going strong; another pair was used for my iPad for years before I got some AirPods, and now get used on my computer daily. I don't need them to be audiophile grade shit that goes directly into my ear like an Airpod Pro, in fact I *want* them to be something that doesn't block out the world around me. They're perfect for that sort of casual use. Not sure what he's thinking.
I have a pair of earpods that seen a lot of abuse. I had them for years and they still work. Looks like I'll buy a new pair when they break. Not that keen on wireless.
Apple keeping most of these still in store make sense to me. They’d just be landfill if not recyclable. It can also potentially make someone’s day to find these things in store if they’re looking for them
Agree. 30-pin cables and 3.5mm EarPods still being sold are a godsend to iPod users, as well as folks that want AirPod sound quality with a cable for legacy devices.
As someone who had to get a 30-pin cable, that they still had it made my day because my only official cable ate it, and I didn't want to use a third-party cable because they all suck.
Quite frankly I use 3.5mm EarPods every day for work. Relatively good mic, decent audio quality, comfy, and I don’t have to worry about battery life. Plus if they break it’s only $20. Still a good product!
Agreed! Their fit (in my ears) is unrivalled making for a very casual set of inexpensive headphones. No need for over ears, or those silicone plug style ones that block all outside noise
Agreed. They're my daily driver at work! They're also slightly smaller than the Airpods, making them more comfortable to have on for longer calls or gaming sessions.
Honestly, I bought a pair after loosing my old ones, because that mic is so much better than my airpods pro 2 in the outdoor while meetings occured and the background is loud.
Funny story here: I actually just bought a usb SuperDrive yesterday brand new from the Apple Store. I have a 16” 2021 MacBook Pro and needed a dvd player for some old media I have, and while reading/playing back a dvd works perfectly fine, I got a very similar error when trying to burn a disc. The stupid thing is that on Apple’s website it explicitly says (at the time of writing this) it is compatible with any Mac made since 2008 as long as you have a USB-C to USB-A adapter, including for burning discs, and mentions nothing about compatibility problems on modern Macs. They REALLY need to either change that or just discontinue it altogether.
@@WinPC99I was using one of their first party ones, and even then it still didn’t work! It works fine for reading so I’ll probably keep it for that (it’s actually one of the quietest optical drives I’ve ever seen) but for burning I’ll probably need to use something else.
I started reading the comment thinking what were they thinking at the Apple store 2 people bought CD drives today! I think there might be a firmware update unfortunately. Definitely try a different system. It might also be a firmware/driver/connection issue as they arbitrarily limited it to not working on hubs.
I also appreciated the quiet operation and compatibility of the OEM drive, but wanted more flexibility for connection. I ended up prying open the enclosure and dropping the OEM drive into a third party enclosure with dual usb. Works with my newer devices now pretty flawlessly.
hmmm can't remember if I tried that. I don't believe they added support for optical discs. hmmm. Camera adapter there, optical drive there, disk there... I'll be right back......
I just tried it with an iPad, it doesn't work. The drive can detect the disc, but iOS (or iPadOS) won't detect anything. Granted i did not test it with a Superdrive, just with a standard portable DVD Drive from LG.
@@RezTechTube Some time ago, I was able to read a 3½-inch diskette from an iPhone via a USB floppy drive from Aliexpress. I suppose it did not read the data directly from the diskette but rather dumped all the data on an internal flash drive. I wonder if some USB DVD drives have similar technology under the hood.
That toothbrush is like the Magic Mouse. The charging port is on the bottom. Why?? Why not make it a stand like the Oral-B electric toothbrush? Now you put it down on its side, it rolls off the table and dents your floor. Yippee.
22:55 I actually prefer that design. As in addition to an international adapter. It also allows you to connect an extension cable to it. Having more options is a good thing. And I would suggest that maybe be the one that shouldn’t be sold is the one with the integrated plug.
Also it looks like the one with the integrated plug unfolds to have it in the middle of the huge block, meaning no matter which way your power strip is oriented it will block its neighbors, whereas if you have a horizontally aligned power strip, the international one won’t block any other outlets
Although that's true of a Mac Pro being used outside; realistically though, how many offices have an uneven and sloping floor? Most people who have a Mac Pro and put these wheels on would be wanting the added convenience of easily turning the tower around to access the connectivity on the back. Brakes on the wheels would defeat that purpose.
OG EarPods are still probably the best value headphones you can get rn. Besides, they actually sound REALLY GOOD with high-impedance jack on my MBP 16.
For the traveling usb-c charger you can also switch it out for an extension cable that doesn’t take up as much space (at the outlet) and gives you several feet more of cable. Still probably not worth it, but figured it should be mentioned.
British plugs being huge is a good thing, the plug itself is so big that on a power bar the sockets have to be further apart, so you're never blocking any socket you don't use.
Seriously. As a brit living in USA, US plugs are atrocious. If you buy a 7 socket power strip for example, you can expect to only be able to use 4-5 of those sockets as many of your devices will just block the other ports with their size. Plus who doesn't love watching electricity arc out of their wall to touch the flimsy little prongs inches from their hands? It adds to the charm!
@@chrosdersh If engineers today designed a new, universal plug for consumers from scratch, it would never in a million years be as bulky as the UK plug. That thing is absurdly oversized. It would be closer in size to the US plug, and probably even smaller. Size is very important when it comes to plugs, and the UK plug is way way too big.
@@lesthelegendofficial So, you think compactness is irrelevant to today's portable electronics? That's an interesting take, especially considering the very clear trend toward smaller connectors and smaller chargers.
@@dansanger5340 I think safety over size definitely, many electricians around the world has stated that the UK plug is one of, if not the best plug in the world and If there was to be a standardised plug it wouldn’t surprise me if it was the very safe and very clever UK plug
The superdrive works beautifully on a Mac Studio if you use an adapter and plug it into a USB C port. I did this yesterday using the USB C ports on the front and it worked just fine. I love my superdrive!
This is a fact. I have it plugged into an M1 imac using the USB c to USB a adapter that Apple sells for 19$. That's how they get you! It wont work through a hub or adapter... unless its an Apple one. Hahaha no big deal, but it does actually work fine with the USB C to A adapter. They should make a 4K UHD version though. They really should.
As a German who lives in the UK and frequently travels to the US, I love the travel charger! It chargers my iPhone and Watch simultaneously and it’s great to just take the small plugs depending on where I’m going. Totally overpriced and not as fast as third-party travel chargers but at least I can trust it not going up in flames 😄 Oh and: Everything’s better than the terrible US plug which always seems to just fall out of the wall 😂
Yes, our sockets tend to wear out after a while because the contractors use the cheap ones and then nobody ever replaces them after they've served their non-respectable life and resort to duck taping plugs into sockets instead of hiring an electrician or learning how to safely do it. On the upside foreign users don't have the folding prongs which I've had where out after a while and a couple almost to go up and smoke and start losing connection. Which at that point I trade the duck head adapter that I'm not using with my mom then proceed to cut it open and splice in an actual cord.
100%. I live in Uruguay and travel to the US once or twice a year to visit friends. I need to do many layovers to get there and every country uses different plugs so the dual charger comes super in handy. Charges both my Airpods and iPhone and I can swap the plug without any problems.
When he said British people always go on about their plugs. I’ve only ever seen Americans go on about how amazing the British plug is. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a Brit talking about them.
"they are huge, they're ugly, and they're awful" - The UK plugs are the only ones I know of that include a fuse INSIDE the plug that protects everything you plug on the device/power-strip level. Without those you would need to rely on circuit breakers to detect shorts which rarely happens before something actually catches fire. I'm not from UK, but their plugs ARE better. Imagine a power strip can handle at max 2kW before catching fire. The embedded fuse would prevent it from burning, but a 15A circuit breaker, which is 3.4kW would not.
The fuse is needed because of the arse about face way we wire our socket circuits, which means you could pull 32A through one plug if the device has a fault. Also the fuse is not to protect the device itself. It's to protect the flex from the plug to the device. But you're right, our plugs and sockets, whilst big are the safest in the world. Except in one situation. On the floor they are always pins up and stepping on one hurts more than stepping on lego bricks.
The fuse is needed because UK wiring system: a single ring of copper is used to connect all outlets in the house, so it allows very high current in faults which is very dangerous so the appliances must protect the system. In every other country they use radial circuits which have their own protection in the electric panel itself, so the fuses in the appliances are not required.
Fun fact: The US socket is most often installed up-side-down with the ground at the bottom so it looks like a face. Anything conductive will touch the live before the ground.
As someone who likes to buy used Apple devices, I am glad the Apple Retail stores still keeps in stock older items. Two years ago, I picked-up a used space gray "trash can" Mac Pro 8-core/D-700/64GB/1TB SSD model. Afterward, I went to the Apple store to buy their external DVD super-drive (smile...smile).
"they are huge, they're ugly, and they're awful"..... UK plug's/socket's are simply the best: Safer with strong chunky prongs that are shielded where they'd become live, ground on top because gravity, on/off switch to isolate supply and arcing/sparking, fused which is never a bad thing although not required in the US. And they supply higher wattage at the socket. The badly placed socket shown was a poor example to make a point, I'm sure the same could happen anywhere. We do suffer with more bulk, true, and sadly many just stick a UK plug onto their power adapters and call it a day or do it for aesthetic like Apple rather than designing it for the market. But if you want a safe, robust, capable plug/socket to deal with deadly electricity then nothing beats it.
Yeah, my phone charger actually was properly designed for the UK. They had the mains pins lined up with the charger, like a us plug, but with a pop up ground pin. No extra bulk, but works great! (Also is 120W)
The European/international 3 prongs standard word just as well and accomplishes the same. As a bonus, if you step on them in the night you don't have to go to the hospital like you do if one of the U.K. ones bites you. 😋
Slight correction; You seems to have forgotten that sales tax is included in the UK pricing, and most of the world outside the US. So it's not really that much more expensive.
@@snazzy Its 20% VAT (tax) in UK, and to be fair, it does include the specific plug which the US doesnt. Stil more, but things always seem to be more expensive over there
22:48 - I like the international version because I can fit several of these together side by side on a single U.S. power strip. The “slim” compact 35W won’t fit next to other plugs. I can charge all my apple devices off one single power strip at my desk.
there are usb-c earpods because in some countries its mandatory to include headphones with phones. So they ship them with iphone 15s in respective markets
An argument for Earpods - they are awesome for budget gaming. Comes with a mic, with decent sound quality. No Bluetooth means no audio latency. Cheap, and most shops carry them at a reduced price. 1 wire for all audio related functionality on a budget gaming computer and we're ready for a LAN party. Left it at your buddy's place? Not that it matters, its $20.
They are my go to for work calls. Mic is leagues better than the upward pointing mic array on the laptop and some programs will take a button press as mute/unmute. I have one in my work bag and one at my desk that I find myself going to for any non-competitive gaming. I hope they never go away
23:26 there is one reason why this (and other chargers with the same plug) charger is better than most, it's because you could use it with the Power Adapter Extension Cable which gives you an earthed/grounded charger. Without an earthed/grounded charger, you might get a tingly feeling when touching the metal part of your laptop using certain power outlets.
True! I remember when I lived off grid, we generated our own power with solar and stored the energy in many deep cycle batteries. We didn't have a pure sinewave inverter yet, so my laptop would do this exact thing. It was actually pretty uncomfortable to use, felt like when I was a kid and I accidentally touched the exposed prongs. It didn't do the same thing on the grid or with the pure sinewave inverter either.
i’m pretty happy with them still selling this tech, because i can’t really buy it anywhere else and apple provides e.g. a magsafe charger which is really helpful
Literally just bought a 30-pin dock connector cable not too long ago for my iPod classic… which yes, still works just fine even after 17 years. The old cable I had finally gave out. Those iPods were built to last man and it’s nice knowing that everything on there is music I OWN, and don’t have to stream or worry about internet.
Isn't this basically how the iRig thing works too? I think it may have come out around the same time and probably takes advantage of the changes they made for this adapter.
Yep, I actually see these adapters get used in Maccas (Australian slang for McDonalds) just to run the Uber Eats app on their 9th Gen iPads, they use the adapter to get Ethernet via USB and the pass through lightning port just to permanently wire the iPad for power.
24:00 Remember that in the UK we pay sales tax (of 20%) within the purchase price rather than on top of the purchase price, as in the US. Generally, if the US price is $50, the UK price will be £50.
I worked at an Apple Store for 8 years until recently and the lightning to usb 3.0 adapter is still in wide use at stores because it supports wired data transfer between lightning iPhones and allows power in for charging during the process. It also allows the phone to work over a wired network provided you use a usb-a to Ethernet adapter and plug into power. I even used it with the old Apple wired keyboards which used to allow you to unlock and interact with an iPhone if the touch screen stopped responding but since iOS started locking out the usb connections if the passcode hasn’t been entered within a certain timeframe that hasn’t really been available.
I left the Genius Bar a year ago and I still used them at the bar regularly for workarounds like this. If someone came in with a cell and wifi failure (common on iPhone 7) I used this adapter to connect it to Ethernet so it could sync to iCloud before we fixed it.
The wired ethernet is kinda useless because without power it only work for USB 2.0 ethernet adapter, and all usb 2.0 adapter only supports 100Mbps, which only 10MB/s, slower than WiFi
despite the limitations of the Ethernet-USB adapter being limited to 10/100 ethernet, it’s actually quite useful in McDonalds Australia to run Uber Eats over it on their iPad 9th Gen’s, considering how crap the internet is in Australia, we don’t actually see the difference at all.
Something I really appreciate about Apple is that they sell some of this old stuff still. As someone who collects iPods from time to time being able to just go out and buy a first party genuine Apple 30-pin cable is wonderful. Also while EarPods don’t sound as good as some other earbuds at their price point I will argue that they are quite practical. They don’t insert into your ear canal so if you are a person who has difficulty with in-ear buds you’re good. This also means you can easily put them in and take them out of your ears if you are in an environment that requires you to do so often. They don’t bleed sound in any way close to the version of the Apple earbuds they replaced. They also still sound pretty good for what they are. For phone calls, podcasts, audiobooks, and non-critical listening they sound pretty good. Especially for phone calls that microphone is absolutely superior to any wireless alternative.
Really odd how he was critiquing them by showing how damn good the Mic quality is (mainly because the are not Bluetooth) and how they sound decent (that coming from a self professed audiophile) but then said Apple shouldn't be selling them becuase you can get cheap Chinese ones instead (that are bluetooth anyway, so the Mic won't be as good).
On the 35 w adapter, Apple also sells the extender kit (a lot of people put them on their MacBook chargers). Also for frequent travelers, it’s super convinent since many other electronics use the 2 prong power plug that the block accepts so it would be pretty easy to find a cable to put into it even if it’s not the official Apple plug.
In addition to the extension cable kit, Apple also sells the international plug adapter kits to adapt the chargers to the relevant power sockets around the world, so the big 35W (2x USB-C) adapter isn’t completely useless at all.
That 30 pin still serves a purpose! I still use my old iPod (updated with an SD card) when I want distraction free music. It is very refreshing not having to use a distraction filled phone all the time.
I still use the wired earbuds for all of my Teams calls. I have a set in my office and a set at home. They sound good and more importantly, I sound clear when speaking. My AirPods sound like crap over Teams.
All Bluetooth headphone microphones sound like crap because of the Bluetooth spec - it can’t handle the bandwidth needed. Also EarPods are just comfortable unlike in-ears
They also don't require charging and for me personally don't cause ear fatigue/irritation like in-ear headphones. I specifically bought a new USB-C version of them and now I can use them with both my iPhone and Mac.
I was at an Apple store in the last 6mos. A lady was at the same table with me waiting for a "Genius" to rescue a disc from and repair her superdrive; over time the screws get weak. She hadn't had it that long. They just gave her a new one 😂
Well, we are talking about varying levels of "legacy" here. I use my Superdrive fairly regularly and I know a number of friends who use one(or some other equivalent drive) still to this day. If the data is on disc and you need to get it into the computer, you have to have a drive like this. My only complaint is that the drive should be updated. The "trashcan" lock is obscure and probably should go away.
That MagSafe adapter saved my bacon. I grabbed an old MacBook Air from goodwill a few months back, but only had MagSafe 1 adapters, no MagSafe 2. I was so suppressed when I found out I could just hop over to my local Apple Store and buy it for a reasonable $10. The clerk didn't even know what it was when they gave it to me, which I thought was funny 🤣
Definitely, it also saved my sister from having to buy a second power brick for her 2013 Retina MacBook Pro, as I just happened to have both an 85W and 65W MagSafe 1 chargers for my two MacBook Pros.
I don't know which word you were going for, but i suspect it wasn't this one: suppress /səˈprɛs/ verb 1. forcibly put an end to: "the rising was savagely suppressed"
So funny, I just bought a SuperDrive for my M1 MacBook Pro 3 weeks ago. Bought through the App Store. I needed it to move old photos up to Photos in the Mac. I haven’t tried to burn anything, but it does work with Apple’s USBA to USBC dongle.
That Magsafe to Magsafe 2 adapter saved me 80€ a few years ago when my 2012 MacBook Air's power supply cable frayed and became unusable. I still had my old 2008 MBP charger and instead of spending 90€ for a new charger, I was able to get the 10€ adapter. It worked flawlessly and I handed it down to my sister which continues using it today.

I actually bought one of those SuperDrives when I bought my new MacMini last year (2023). The drive I purchased was manufactured only a few months prior to my purchase, indicating that not only is the drive still being manufactured, customers are still buying them.
I actually appreciate that Apple still sells this stuff despite almost nobody buying it. You can connect all of the original iPods to a modern Mac, still find chargers for an ancient laptop, that kind of support is definitely worth something considering how quick some companies are to abandon old hardware and force the customer to upgrade. Looking at you, Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo.
Optical media has a shelf life, unless you're using the far less common and crazy expensive archive grade discs. I have old CD's from the early 90's that have literally rotted away, huge chunks of the thing just missing. I have the same on a lot of burned media from the 00's, totally unusable now. DVD's seem to last longer, but some of the earlier burns I did are starting to show the same issue. If you want real long term then either invest in tape or get into the habit of migrating the data ever few years to newer drives. At the very least you'll have something on a format still commonly supported if you do it this way. Do the cloud thing too, encrypt it for security of course. Multiple copies is the key here! The cloud can act as your extreme off site option.
@@TalesOfWarCDs can last hundreds of years from factory- if you have professional CD with that issue you must have that PDO batch that had issues from one factory.

Yep. He's 100% wrong on this one.
That’s so naughty
Them wheels are ridiculously over engineered, I can’t imagine Apple have ever made profit on them after the cost of R&D
I owned first gen and several other early generation iPods and iPhones and they never ever ever came with "belt clips."

EarPods didn’t deserve to be on this list. The mic speaks for itself
It is more the fact that the price is ridiculous
Apple is such a 'in it's own network' brand and store, that it makes sense to have everything....just in case.
As someone who had to get a 30-pin cable, that they still had it made my day because my only official cable ate it, and I didn't want to use a third-party cable because they all suck.
The camera adapter is still the best way to connect a USB audio interface to a lightning based iPad.
“If Apple made a toothbrush…” after seeing this toothbrush’s packaging you still can’t tell me otherwise
Yup, Airpods pro mic is garbage for zoom calls. Do those tangzu earphones even have a mic to begin with?
I’ve been using these since they launched with the iPhone 5. Comfort is still superior to every pair of headphones I’ve owned.
You have to use an Apple USB C to USB A adapter. Third party adapters (and even docks!) don’t work
@@WinPC99I was using one of their first party ones, and even then it still didn’t work!
You can return it.
I also appreciated the quiet operation and compatibility of the OEM drive, but wanted more flexibility for connection. I ended up prying open the enclosure and dropping the OEM drive into a third party enclosure with dual usb. Works with my newer devices now pretty flawlessly.

I think the biggest issue with the Mac Pro Wheels apart from the price tag is that they don't have brakes, so the Mac Pro can just roll away.
That's why I always used to keep mine on jack stands.
Peter Paul Chato made fun of that back in the time before he went insane and “anti-woke”.

Oh and: Everything’s better than the terrible US plug which always seems to just fall out of the wall 😂
"they are huge, they're ugly, and they're awful"
- The UK plugs are the only ones I know of that include a fuse INSIDE the plug that protects everything you plug on the device/power-strip level.
Without those you would need to rely on circuit breakers to detect shorts which rarely happens before something actually catches fire.
I'm not from UK, but their plugs ARE better. Imagine a power strip can handle at max 2kW before catching fire. The embedded fuse would prevent it from burning, but a 15A circuit breaker, which is 3.4kW would not.
its actually funny to hear complainse about UK plug from person who live in country with THE WORST PLUG DESING IN THE WORLD.
Don't really appreciate the British plug that much
But I second the argument that US citizens should be the last to have a say on the topic
UK plug's/socket's are simply the best:
Safer with strong chunky prongs that are shielded where they'd become live, ground on top because gravity, on/off switch to isolate supply and arcing/sparking, fused which is never a bad thing although not required in the US.
So true, try plugging a 140w gan charger with a US plug, I’m pretty sure they will just fall off due to gravity
Yeah, my phone charger actually was properly designed for the UK. They had the mains pins lined up with the charger, like a us plug, but with a pop up ground pin. No extra bulk, but works great! (Also is 120W)
The European/international 3 prongs standard word just as well and accomplishes the same.

True! I remember when I lived off grid, we generated our own power with solar and stored the energy in many deep cycle batteries. We didn't have a pure sinewave inverter yet, so my laptop would do this exact thing.

That poor Superdrive patiently waited 16 years for someone to open it, just to be thrown on the floor. RIP.

I do this a lot, it's called a C7 cable (figure of 8 connector).
In addition to the extension cable kit, Apple also sells the international plug adapter kits to adapt the chargers to the relevant power sockets around the world, so the big 35W (2x USB-C) adapter isn’t completely useless at all.

I can prematurely guarantee that legacy users would be up in arms if most of this stuff wasn't available to buy in store.
@@jeffchastain2977 or just save your money and get a lg dvd drive for only 22.99 and it will preform the same thing
I don't know which word you were going for, but i suspect it wasn't this one:
suppress
/səˈprɛs/
verb
1. forcibly put an end to: "the rising was savagely suppressed"
I plug the extension cables into my charge bricks so I hope Apple never gets rid of the one with the removable connectors.
So funny, I just bought a SuperDrive for my M1 MacBook Pro 3 weeks ago. Bought through the App Store. I needed it to move old photos up to Photos in the Mac. I haven’t tried to burn anything, but it does work with Apple’s USBA to USBC dongle.
It works with an Anker dongle too when reading music CD's
That toothbrush is so Apple that they put the charger on the bottom so it can’t stand up whilst charging 🤣
I disagree with you about the power adapter, the modular plug also support the long power extension cable shipped with all the old apple laptops!
I was shook by the difference in EarPod vs AirPod microphone quality 😮
I'm always reminded how shit streaming is when I dig out a BlueRay or DVD from my collection and watch it instead.
Streaming is worse than Blu-ray but even Netflix is way better than DVD.
Can someone do a "literally” count on this video? 😂
(include the ridiculously long toothbrush ad for a bonus “literally” or two)
11 according to the transcript. Only once or twice did Quinn use it the correct way. It's so overused.
Snazzy, honestly, you truly make THE best Apple/tech videos on the web. I simply just love your production style and format. The topics are interesting, the script is always polished, the cuts/edits and visuals are always clean and professional. I especially love that you get into the nitty gritty details about the hardware & specs, the software, and use cases of whatever you’re discussing, and I really enjoy when you include a historic perspective as well by sharing your knowledge of the past - you’re so well informed. This video, like the rest of your content, showcases all of these elements. Always a subscriber, notifications on :)! Keep it up!!
Thanks a million! 🎉
Ebay listing: Open box Apple Mac Pro wheels, used for one UA-cam video without a Mac Pro.
That’s gonna be one hell of an awkward trip going back to Apple to try to get a refund on these items 😂
Apple stores have a14 day no-quibble return policy so it will not be awkward at all.
That would be a very dick move! But then again, it’s Linus and his crew

Especially after dropping the superdrive on the floor.
1st thing I do with every apple lightning/usb cable: put some heat shrink tubing on it. the cables are beyond terrible.
Speaks volumes about the quality of Apples design that a product from 2008 still looks like it’s from the future.
UA-camrs reviewing circuits
- Review actual schematics: Nope
- Review the brand of capacitors they use: Yesssss
I still burn media, you know once all the clouds go missing I don't want my important pictures to follow..
The cloud can act as your extreme off site option.
honestly 'owning your media' is making a return after all the streaming service BS that has gone down and I am here for it
@@TalesOfWar likely he backs them up on several different kinds of media, which is what you're supposed to do.
@@TalesOfWarCDs can last hundreds of years from factory- if you have professional CD with that issue you must have that PDO batch that had issues from one factory. I have early 80s CDs that are still absolutely fine. Burned CDs don’t last as long as the laser power is only 30% of professional created disks
23:20 well that's kinda obvious they sell it so you can switch the ending if you travel often, so instead of having multiple power adapters, you just change the ending, there's even a "travel pack" with a few different endings you can attach
I have some unfortunate news... 12:48
Still blown away by how knowledgeable and reflected you are in these videos!
23:00 actually it’s very useful if you want to use apples extension cord that connects directly to it
“There’s no sunlight in Apple stores” Quinn almost every modern Apple store has floor to ceiling windows that let sunlight and UV rays pour in 😂 That’s why the plastic seal was yellow and why products in the front yellow before the ones lined up behind do
I don't think they are keeping that thing on the sales floor. I bet they have that in the way way way back. hahahaha
You really wasted a thousand dollars...
He knows the cd drive does not have an M3 chip therefore he hates it, and therefore, he believes you should buy a macbook pro. Love these videos
24:27 I still use the earpods, though I like to call them "wired airpods" because I can afford the cord. I've switched from iPhone to Android back in 2020 and they are the only earbuds I find that I like.
US citizens honestly don't get to speak on matters regarding wall sockets.
Hot wiring appliances to the grid would still be a better solution than what you came up with
Well that’s just not true lol
Yes, well, at least our power grid works. It would be nice if we could have universal healthcare as well.
"british plugs are huge, are nasty, are awful"... cool power a kettle in your house without starting a fire and or waiting more then 2 mintues
real af. US kettles are so slow.
european plug users be like: yeah and why should a kettle burn your house down?
120v vs 220v @@Liam-gi2bv
Is the only reason british plugs are the worst out of any of the European standard plugs so you can power kettles :(
love the vid! i will say, as a retail employee for apple, we actually sell a stupid amount of usb superdrives, probably 10 a day, which is a lot for my small store
6:13 cracked me up lmao. completely unhinged ferocity to calm talking points moments later. fun video! :)
"There's no sunlight in Apple stores"
Sounds like prison.
@22:30 Shots fired at our amazing British plugs. The British plug design is safe, tough and well engineered. US plugs are meekly pathetic as are your substandard outlets.
Hmm, Apple is never considered cutting edge
I’ve never heard of remote disk lol that’s awesome.
Snazzy in an alternate universe: Apple doesn’t offer peripherals for old Macs anymore, thereby turning them into expensive junk!!! Literally shocking!!!
i am EXTREMELY grateful that apple still sells that 30 pin cable, i collect and restore ipods and all third party cables are really spotty with syncing and file transfers, please never change apple
Earpods have remained basically unchanged for 12 years
Apple: well, if it aint broke, dont fix it
Loved it, great reminicing about these old stuff, thank you.
A pack of regular toothbrushes cost $4 and my arm has it's own battery enabled by evolution.. EVO TOOOOOOTHBRUSHHHHH
I still love the parody of the mac book air ad that Lenovo did that had them shoving all the dongles and add ons into the Manila envelope
