    Ive told myself time and time again, NO MORE TURBOCHARGED SUBARUS!
    But this ones low miles, and only a 2010... WHAT COULD GO WRONG?
    OHHHHHH IF I ONLY KNEW BETTER (wait, I totally knew better, I've built over 10 ej255 engines)
    You win some, you loose some...
    At least I have a new lawn ornament

    Keep fighting the good fight Colin. Cars are pain, and your content resonates with gearheads across the world. Your channel has all the right ingredients and I have no doubt you're on your way to 100k subs. Cheers from Australia!

    Appreciate your videos. I’m not a mechanic nor am I much mechanically inclined but I enjoy watching you tackle these challenging projects head on. All the best to you.

    I love your channel man, keep it up! Keep making the videos and your channel will grow. You have the charisma, humor and editing skills to be the next Vice Grip Garage, Junkyard Digs, or Pole Barn Garage.
    I started watching VGG years ago and when he was like you and now he has like 2 million subs. I don't watch him much any more because he's rich now and only does really expensive hot rod jobs. What you do is more the kind of stuff I like.
    I'm a jeep/truck guy but I love Subarus too. There are 3 in my family, from an 1986 to a 2024.
    I still watch JYD and PBG because they stayed true to their roots, wrenching on stuff that guys like me can afford. Keep it going!

    Funny I saw this, I follow your vids and just two days ago picked up a 09 XT with 230,000KM and head gaskets/timing done ($6500 repair bill with receipts) 4000KM ago for $2500 Canadian. Having fun with it for a bit before I sell it - so far 0 issues apart from a leaking front left strut.

    Awesome video. That was a LOT of smoke coming out on the highway! I love to see that you make sure things are right and long term dependable before you sell them. I hate TPMS lights so much. If one of the customer concerns on a repair order are a flashing TPMS sensor I don't want anything to do with the job. There's never a scanner available and the little chicken shit TPMS register tool is always missing so I'd rather starve than have to deal with flashing light TPMS sensor bullshit. If the light is on solid then it will go out on it's own usually after setting correct PSI. I remember when 240s were cheap beaters.

    I started watching your videos when i seen the headgasket in the autozone parkinglot. You and me got a lot in common my dude. Great videos, the gamble is always fun. As you know if you know what to look for, you are winning 90% of the time. But that other 10%, well....

    I had a 2005 Forester with the turbo I got for like $5k with the head gasket, timing belt, and water pump replaced. I really enjoyed it but had overheating problems until I swapped the radiator and thermostat. Really enjoyed it but I could never trust it. Sold it for what I got it for and ended up getting a 2004 4Runner which is more my speed.

    Everything I’ve ever bought came with promises unfulfilled-yet in the moment, I always choose the dream over the unknown
    I'll never forget the car I bought that just needed an AC pulley. The kid had a trunkload of broken serpentine belts and the bearing was separated with just a couple lonely ball bearings left inside. Some of the belts were brand new, some worn, but all broken. It's alway got me to work, but about once a week the belt would break is what he told me. During the test drive everything felt fine, apart from the horrendous noise.
    Three major problems hiding behind one small, hopeful fix. Trans, turbo, and blend doors.

    Man I'm up in Wisco and so envious of your access to rust free whips. Depending on the manufacturer/metallurgy anything hitting ten years up is going to throw you a curve ball every fourth or fifth bolt. Will it need a torch? Should I start soaking it in pb now and use that time on a different part of the job that is a little less seized? Keep up the vids, I like the down to earth relaxed format. Also it might time for a trip to the ol Horror Fraught to scoop a borescope. Much less surprises that way plus it can give you another bargaining point when you show the seller how jacked up a previously unseen component is.

    Are you sure it is a piston ring problem? Because i see white smoke not blue smoke you should try a compression test before taking it apart, usually white smoke indicates coolant or raw fuel burning in the hot exhaust

    Hey man, i had an issue with my gf 04fxt. Its the same engine. I dont think oil is getting to the turbo... the avcs solenoids gets clogged up on both sides and that the path before the oil feed to the turbo. Her car ate about 3 turbos before i figured it out... all i did was crack the oil feed line at the turbo, removed the banjo and pit the line in a cup, then cranked it and realized i had no oil getting there.

  • @josephschnatterbeck6812
    @josephschnatterbeck6812 23 дні тому

    Oil catch can always need to for turbos . To much oil blow by. Need baffled oil pans too for subaru's.
    A boring scope to look in motor save time from taking it apart to.

    Subarus are a pain in the ass to build, mainly because the block halves are made of absolutely shit metal and warp if you stare at them too long 😂

    • @steinfabgarage
      @steinfabgarage  4 місяці тому

      Lol 😂. I’d say more cause there open deck, and the cylinders go out of wack the second you overheat them.
      That being said the turbo blocks are SEMI- closed deck, and do better…

    • @xinx-fn8973
      @xinx-fn8973 4 місяці тому

      @@steinfabgarage they still like to warp if you don’t use the correct tools to tighten the head bolts, the block will warp and cause a lot of vertical scratches, which is why backyard built subaru engines fail only after a few hundred or a few thousand miles

    $1,500 ain’t bad at all if all it needs is a turbo!!
    You could’ve drained the oil a few times after putting a new turbo in! And saved the engine
    It had old oil and metal from the first blown turbo they didn’t drain it

      It depends, the h6 or EZ 30 or 36 are known to be better, they don’t make them anymore of course. I just like the idea that the motor sits flat and gives a better chance in a accident, also the motors are easier to remove, theres only like 12 bolts holding it in.
