    Thanks for sharing the process. My brother and I have put together a really nice semi-pro garage over the past few decades, but I always end up working outside like you. Pisses me right off sometimes, but we can only fit one car in there at a time and my brother has pretty steady work fixing customer's cars. So of course, the bay is always occupied, and I'm the guy fumbling around in the rain, sleet, and snow, introducing the neighbors to my creative usage of expletives. I think they're convinced I'm a polyglot.
    You probably hear it six million times per video, but some of you guys in southern/more arid regions are really missing out on the fun us northern folks have with rust. Rust creates totally different challenges, and quite often turns ten minute jobs into all afternoon disaster mitigation sessions. Very seldom can I work on a Subaru without twisting the heads right off of the endless rusty bolts that I swear Subaru makes out of some crazy cheese-metal hybrid molecule. Enough of my whining though. You sharing the tips and tricks, gained from experience, can serve as huge time savers. Thanks again.

    Thanks so much for this video and part 1! Lots of videos just point at a part and say "remove that" but don't go into the details. These are the most comprehensive videos I've seen on this. I really appreciate you taking the time. Thanks!

      Thanks man I appreciate this input a lot, I’ve actually considered scrapping the rest of the series as it’s been a challenge making these videos. I’m at least scraping the bottom end rebuild, I’ll release the head rebuild soon

    Fantastic! Thank you for taking the time to put these vids out there. Way more info than most all of the other EJ25 R&R. I.E. fat washers are for the motor mounts and different bell housing/starter bolts etc.

      @@steinfabgarageso I got the motor set in to the transmission. It’s still spinning. Sitting flush. But I went to push the clutch and it flopped flat to the ground. Pulled it back up with ease. Any advice?

      I can operate the throw-out bearing. It moves back and fourth. Only thing I don’t currently have installed is that plunger looking piece right in front of it on the motor. Could that be stopping my clutch from getting the resistance it needs when you compress the pedal?

    Heads up! Eye f*ck and compare every part. I used the coolant crossover pipe from some forester. Mainly wanted the block. Anyway the forester pipe slightly angles outward while the 07 Impreza Outback faces straight forward. Solutions a slightly bigger hose versus dissembling all over again 😅 1 month later and I can feel the test start

    Man. I'd just like to take a moment to thank you. I also want to apologize for ever doubting you. I made the fatal mistake of judging a book by the cover. (Which I absolutely hate when it happens to me! UGH I'm such a damn hypocrite!!!!
    You have taught me SO much and because of you I was able to swap my engine on my own with no previous training. (Luckily I have a little common sense too that definitely helped😅).
    BUT
    YOU?
    You deserve a medal and a lot of recognition for the care you put into teaching others how to fish. ❤ Love you Man. You fuckin rock! 🤘✊👍👍👍👍💪💪💪💪🙏🙏🤙🤙🤙✌️

    This is a great video and I'm up for doing an engine swap for my daughter. She has a 2014 Forester FB25 that broke a piston rod at 80k miles. Seems like a defect to me as she had done regular maintenance and oil changes. No joy from Subaru so far. I found a 2013 FB25 with 50k and a bad head to swap in. Are these compatible? I can't seem to find a source to confirm this fact. Thanks, Joe

    Thank you so much for all the information!! But I do have a very important question?
    How do I know if my 04 legacy motor will go into my 05 legacy ? They are both EJ25 engines, and both are manual cars but I don't know the exact difference?

    hey great videos! monumental help to us first timers. i've got overheating issues w/2008 Forester NA. radiator separated as a result. replaced rad, thermostat, and it still overheats. engine has 184k miles. i've got an opportunity to buy an engine with 64k miles from a jdm shop for 2k. do you think its better to swap them given the mileage difference or gor for the headgasket fix? i dont know if the heads/valves will need work. either way i will do timing belt /water pump kit. thoughts?? thanks man!

    • @steinfabgarage
      @steinfabgarage  Місяць тому

      Depends how hot it got, if it hasn’t gone through EXTREME meltdown, I’d resurface the heads, METAL headgaskets, AISIN timing kit, the JDM motor your looking at is prolly a 2.0 so you’ll loose power and torque

    Looking at a 2003 Baja with a blown engine. I'd like to swap a newer Forester EJ25 2018 with a timing chain into it. Will that work? The engine looks complete but the guy says it had a head gasket leak? Seem really unusual for engines of this era. The body has 170k and is solid. It could be a great rebuild or bupkis. What do you think? I'm definitely shade-tree but my son has a degree from Wyotech. Your engine pull video is doable for me.

    • @steinfabgarage
      @steinfabgarage  5 місяців тому

      Short answer: no
      Anything is doable with enough money, your talking lots. Your also talking about a FB25 as NO ej ever came chain driven
      I won’t even get into what’s different, as it’s EVERYTHING

    Why swap the engine over just replacing the head gaskets? I’m in the middle of pulling a good running engine to put in my outback with rod knock. Debating on throwing it in as is or going ahead and doing the head gaskets.
