Colin I'm not even a Subaru guy but your videos are put together so well they are super informative and enjoyable to watch. Once in a while you are even funny LoL. But I've been binge watching all your videos and having a blast. Thanks!
Wow Colin ! You are really good at Subarus and wrenching in general! You showed me a thing or two over and over throughout this video ! Very well put together bro keep up the great work homie ! 3rd gen 4Runner gang !
Gotta appreciate how rudimentary you can get with doing a rebuild, it doesn’t all have to be “exact” per se. And as a subaru dealer tech, I sure did appreciate this video haha
I used to have a Subaru Legacy station wagon with a EJ22, I had to replace the engine, I pulled apart the old engine which was overheating and found a burnt valve. I found it a nice easy swap to remove the old engine and refit the new one. When I bought my Trooper it had a blown turbo, (I found the exhaust turbine blown off the end and in the exhaust pipe). I replaced the turbo and pulled the pan and cleaned it out, had no problems since. I make my own timeserts on my lathe, easy to do.
It’s good you recognized that your problem determination logic was going down hill because you were tired. Took me years to understand “I need to sleep on it”, when working on difficult issues. Not just mechanical, electrical issues,, but social or really any challenges that require some brain power. It’s something I recognized when I was a young guy, and used it when coaching my sons through challenges in their lives. I always told them “things will look different in the morning” or something like that. I got that bit of wisdom from grandma.
This is the best car channel on youtube, I have learned so much from watching your videos and it gives me the confidence to tackle tough projects on my subie
Very informative and enlightening video and absolutely loved how much longer it was. I was fully engaged and learned a bunch and had never seen a tear down of one of these long blocks. Thank you for uploading this very nice video. Always makes my day when you drop a new vid.
Sweet ass video i love your longer ones probably shouldn't have started at work just realized its getting dark lol. I finally put the water pump and timing belt on my 96 ej22 outback and still running hot i ran a combustion gas check on it and took a while keep contaminating the liquid lol and the last time it turned yellow so ordered head gaskets and seals from rock auto having to do it on the cheap hopefully it fixes the problem then i can get that caliper hooked up lol. One thing thoe after the belt and pump it idled so much better and the old belt and bearings seemed good not sure why it surged at idle but wish it wasnt running hot and only have heat when i get it at 2k rpm. Thanks for the video cant wait until the next one now i need to get some shit done on this house lol oh and the fram stuff good one!!!!!!
I saw an episode of Branden builds where he took a Isuzu diesel out of an industrial air compressor unit and it was a direct fit in his skid steer that had a Perkins diesel engine fyi.. Crazy..
Local subie wizard 🎌 love to see someone local finally on UA-cam! hell yea brother 💪🏽 might need your help with my JDM shitbox, SR problems are never easy…
After 31 years I have found that either works good for installing the rubber front seals because it evaporates quick and the seal stays stuck you can also use hairspray and it sticks the seal good I also use hairspray for turbo couplers
Hey a garage called The Subaru Shop in tiverton Rhode Island, the guy who rebuilds the engines told me to use factory Subaru oil filters because they have the best flow and keeps the oil cleaner
Pretty stoked on the mg aswell, looking forward to any videos on it in future hopefully 😁. I own a MG Midget myself, neat little cars once you get into them haha.
Good content. I just replaced main front seal and oil pump seal on Camry, doing camshaft seal tomorrow. I just used motor oil on the seals. Is this going to be ok? I probably should have got the right grease but didn’t. It’s not too late to replace them again, should I worry about it? It’s my own car.
Hi Colin. Do you have any videos about the TR690 transmission from the 2010-2012 Legacy and Outbacks that fail because a thrust washer wears in the torque converter and debris from it clogs up the lock-up clutch oil passages?
So what's the deal with fram ? 2nd time I'm hearing you say "fram so it doesn't blow up". I know that people tend to hate em, and I've seen the insides of em, completely made out of paper and compared to wix napa etc. Is there something else? Shittier filtering?
Colin I'm not even a Subaru guy but your videos are put together so well they are super informative and enjoyable to watch. Once in a while you are even funny LoL. But I've been binge watching all your videos and having a blast. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!

Good job all around on the rebuild. The wastegate solenoid is not likely the issue. It's likely boost creep.

This is why I have trust issues........Freshly rebuilt.........I'm sure it will work- but longevity is always the concern
