This is your sign that it’s time to get the $300 insert and tell us all how it turns out. I’m guessing you will end up with a good one and save money. Good luck. You need the correct insert. You have taught so many of us how to not make such mistakes. It’s only fitting that you correct this one.
This guy knows watches...........@ 5:49 he explains something that even some Rolex fans are completely unaware of: why some GMT pre-ceramic can go for over $25K? What makes them so especial? I've read many pieces about it, but Austin @watchsymposium is the first Rolex enthusiast that (I've seen) explaining it in a video. I'm lucky to have found years ago a Coke version with stick dial and 3186 movement. 🤠
You know the old saying, (You Slow-You Blow). Sorry Kiddo. Good vid though with important information. Cheers!
Hey Austin, i'm in Tokyo for a few weeks if you want to grab a beer and go browse some watches.
I actually just bought a 116520 a few days ago from one of the stores you recommended in Nakano broadway on one of your previous videos so thanks for that!
Prices here are great and that added tourist tax-free is definitely a nice touch.
Love this type of video, speaks to the angst and obsession of having fallen hopelessly down the rabbit hole of this hobby. Comforting to know I’m not alone.
Nakano Broadway. Paradise for any Rolex fan. Anyone visiting Japan should definitely visit.
Flat 4. Not Fat 4.
Austin you're great ! Sorry to hear you leave empty hands. Buy the belt as a true rolex fan !
Thanks for another episode 👏
i've bought from the good watch guy in nakano broadway. ask nicely and he might give you a bit of a discount on the 14060 tritium insert. sadly he doesn't do tax free sales though
great video Austin.
A Rolex belt... my God...
Love the M serial story.
Well you needed time to think on it. I see no problem with that. Another bezel insert will come along and now that your mind is made up, you will be quicker to react. Fear of missing out (FOMO) can be bad too. Someone recently sent me some pictures of some horrible, horrible Rolex fakes that they wanted me to authenticate. They had picked them up at a flea market and were astonished that they were fake since the seller had provided them in Rolex bags. I wasn't even aware that the bag was an authentication method! 😀 Anyway, the damage was $1,400 for two terrible fakes because the guy jumped the gun due to FOMO with no good knowledge of the watches. I personally prefer a more reserved approach, which means you will miss out sometimes, but I am okay with that.
Great anecdote - there certainly is a balance between being to rash and too slow to move.
For 1k i would just wait. Maybe take a shot on the in germany for 300
good for you Austin... make things right and just enjoy them
I’m more disappointed you didn’t get the Rolex belt 😂!
Honestly, I am too!
Without original bezel your watch will not be complete...you know this Austin .
Lol, thanks for driving that home!
Ugh....... I'm in the same boat brother, my 1997 "U" serial 16610 came with a service insert sharp 4, I've debated buying an original from chrono24 but hesitated for the same reason you did, now that your engaging, I feel I have to also..... dam you Austin!!!! 😉
Lol, I'm just glad we aren't going for the same insert! (The 16610 inserts are a tad bigger apparently.)
I love your videos Austin, you represent all of us, insane nutters who'd be actually bothered by something like this 😄
I appreciate that!
Don’t be upset. You will come across such a bezel again and then you grab it and run…🏃🏻♂️😊😊
What a bummer! nothing worse than going to buy something with the cash in your pocket and its already sold and GONE !!!
I feel that if I have a feeling about something I must act upon it. As the saying goes "Think long, Think wrong". Hope you find it (the bezel that is) as I know when I set my mind to something it will eat at me till I take care of it.
You snooze, you lose!
There is no logic in the watch game. Probably worked out for the best.
Why I tell my friends to buy a Apple Watch and be happy. Sigh.
Gutted for you Austin.
Sorry bout that Austin. I didn't think you were going to buy the bezel so right after your last vid, I ordered it. I'm asking $1,500 USD.
Lol!
Great program, my Rolex AD, for 60 yrs passed two yrs ago, one week before a w/gold YM2 and a two tone tone Daytona were to be picked up, when i got home i found a box with a current, set of hands and dial of the YM2& a complete movement for the Daytona,? No one could tell me how this happen, i kelp the parts, i hope you get your parts, that's the fun in having A Rolex Timepiece.
Great story - what a cool surprise!
Jack-hammering us with the facts. NO way I'd buy a 3186 without seeing it with my own eyes. Old man got cold feet and put it back in the safe! The journey continues...
Hi Austin, so sorry you could not get the bezel insert. Hope you get one in the future. I enjoy all of your videos and I have learned a lot from you. Thank you so much for all your work.
If your going to have certain watches long term its a good idea to obtain spare parts, ie bezel /crystal etc. You then find yourself not babying your watches as much as you know you have spares, plus those spares will only go up over time especially if that model gets discontinued.
You lucked out. I've been in the position more than once. Bag full of cash, headed to the watch stores, only to arrive and see that what I'd planned to buy was gone. More often than not, a few weeks later, I was super happy not to have spent the money.
Dangit
Japanese jackhammer lmao!
don't buy any lottery tickets AD - ~ JDS/CT. - you are one dedicated rolex fan boy
It's craziness! I can't believe your wife let you spend all these money like that...
Love going on your adventures but I'm glad I'm a modern Rolex fan.😉
Sorry to hear that Austin, I’m sure you would eventually find the bezel and put your mind to peace. Coming to Japan later on this year and drinks on me
@8:27 Wiggly hand goodness
Peace of mind is priceless!
totally understand you wanting the correct bezel insert. without it, it's not right !
Yeah Austin, at least you got to show us around again still looked like a nice day over there,
Watch knowledge fam! The different behaviors of Rolex GMT calibers is precious knowledge!
I understand…..
I understand....
i had no idea they were this valuable, i still have a bunch of inserts in my drawer.
Rolly Rolly Rolly
great observation austin re the 2 different gmt master movements
Oh no…..
The wife wont be happy if she finds out austin
It's about the journey, enjoy it
The GMT 16710 with the 3186 caliber started in the Z7 range. If they have the warranty card instead of papers is 90% secure that is the 86 movement
"If you see something, jump on it." I've lost countless opportunities for delaying a purchase. Notably during COVID in 2020 when prices were low, there was a platinum Cellini for $6000 that I delayed buying. When I looked again, it was gone.
When speaking about serials and their starting letter you style always talk about how newer serials can still start with z or other letters. 8 digit vs 7 before randomizing. Starting about mid-way through 2010, Rolex started to “scramble” the serial numbers. These are also known as “random serials” or “scattered serials”.
Austin, I think you hit on a great idea...especially for someone like you that dives into the minutia. Collect & market bezels and rare parts.
first world problems.
Ain't that the truth!
Hi Austin just wondering where can we find watch shops in osaka, nagoya or kobe with many shops within an area like nakano 😊 thanks
It would be cool if you could get a interview with the Shopkeeper.
A lesson I might have learnt from this : call the shop first before getting on the train?
NOOOOOOOOOO!
Hope another one turns up soon...
Hey Austin, thank you for the interesting video and sorry you couldn’t get the bezel!
I own a 14060M G-serial from 2011. I bought it used a few years ago and was told by the seller that this specific watch is one of the G-serial instances that were manufactured with a blue Parachrom hairspring. I haven’t verified it myself, but your video reminded me of that. I would be grateful if you could share some details on the usage of the blue Parachrom hairspring in the Submariner models, maybe in your next video 😅 Thanks!
Those do exist apparently, and if you have one that's an awesome piece! After the G serials, they did the 14060M with the random serial numbers, and those would have an even greater chance of having the blue parachrom spring. I'm not sure if it was all models from that later period or just a handful with that upgrade.
When it comes to your watch, I'd see if RSC can confirm it. If not, they'll be able to when you have it serviced, and maybe they'd let you see for yourself (RSC Japan showed me the inside of my 16600), and you can get some footage of it.
@@watchsymposium thanks, I’ll try to get a confirmation.
How much was the belt
What happened to the glasses bro?
I still have them - I just stick them in my pocket when I get in front of the camera.
