My mother made this when I was a kid way way back in the 60's. But she would put a German vanilla pudding on first then she would put on the fruit. I thank you for bringing back this yummy memory for me.
Thank you Oma for ALL your wonderful videos. I can't stop watching these inspiring gems because you cook with such experience and above all, LOVE!!! Keep sharing your story and thank you to your son as well
Thanks so much for this recipe! My mother in law used to make these, but she bought the sponge shell in the grocery store. They've stopped carrying them now, so I'm glad to have a recipe for them!
Tried this this week. So delicious. I shared this with my German mom, she was thrilled. Now we are just waiting on Oma to show us how to make a Bienstich. That was my favorite cake, loved that vanilla, honey and almond taste. One of her relatives owned a few bakeries in Bavaria, I could have ate the entire bee sting cake myself. So good. Thank you again for sharing this Obsttorte recipe. Yummy!
Thank you for sharing this recipe. My mom used to make this for special occasions and it was always my favorite. Unfortunately she died before giving me the recipe. This recipe tastes exactly like hers! Thank you!
oh Oma, this brings me back to a time when i lived in "little Berlin" it is now known as Kitchener Ontario, Canada. I met alot of German friends, we made these every sunday ! Thanks for the memories ! It reminded me ...I need to make this !!
I grew up in Kitchener, the first Canadian-born child of German immigrants. This was my mom's go-to dessert. Made with each fresh fruit as it came in season--strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, peaches. Still can't pick a favourite
Just a tip - when making the Obstboden cake - put a bit of vanilla pudding or custard under the fruit so it doesn't bleed into the cake and it gives it a nicer taste. Our family favourite it using raspberry jello with frozen raspberries in it as a topping. The tart and sweet with a bit of whipping cream is so nice. Thank you for sharing your video. Makes me miss my beautiful Oma so much.
I've been trying to re-create my mom's obsttorte for years and have never gotten it right. But I watched your video this weekend and it finally turned out perfectly! Thank you so much for your videos!
I watched this with my mom, and she was just so happy to see a dessert from her childhood. I have never seen the fluted pan that was used to make the cake base. Oma we adore you!
Hello Oma, I love that beautiful smile that you have every time you your son. Definitely you are a great woman with a great gift for the cooking. I have a question, What is the size in quarters of that big mixing bowl? I loved it too. If you can answer me, I´ll be so glad! Hugs from México.
Hello Jazmin, Im sorry it has taken me so long to respond to your question. Thank you so much for your kind words. Unfortunately Oma does not know the size in quarters of the mixing bowl.
I have had some success in german baking! I have tried to make this obst torte many times, my mom used to whip one up so quickly and they were always the favorite desert when brought to parties. The one problem I have with this cake boden ist getting it out of the pan clean. Mine always shred or tear and though it may still taste delicious an ugly looking cake doesn't tempt! I will try Omas technique warming the Crisco. Many recipes say one can not grease the pan when making obst boden or bisquit cake. How else can it remove clean from such a fluted pan?!

Can you tell me the size of the pan. I bought an 11” pan, but it was too large. The cake only came up half the sides.
Just love it!

I am German - we greased the pan and sides with butter or margarine and dusted it lightly with breadcrumbs.
In Hungary we put vanilla pudding under the fruit.
Does anyone know what that red juice was she mixed the powder with? She just calls it juice...
She said it was the juice from the strawberries after she added sugar and let them sit for 3hours to overnight
@@ashleymacomber3108 She also added some of the juice from the can of peaches to make it a whole cup.
@@Borissgal thank you :)
Thank you very much🙏⚘
