      You will also have to remove the mother and add a bit of aquarium salt with the baby ghosts.

      might need to add more hiding spots, as the shrimplettes would need them in order to survive from the fish and ghost shrimp also are territorial.

    You should get some bogwood/drift wood because shrimps like to hide in that and it's good for them to chew on. Also shrimps and snails give off a very small bio-load so you can have quite a lot without it putting much pressure on the filter!

    Im gonna ask my mom If we can get a gold fish from the carnival tomorrow to see if my betta attacks it. My betta is in a tank with a sucker fish, I advise you get a sucker fish for the tank. My betta's name is Rainbow and the sucker fish is leopard they get along great but its only because sucker fish for some reason get along with betta fish lol, if my betta gets along with a gold fish I can have a lively tank! Hope you guys like my essay there. :) OH btw shrimp can clean your nails.

    Also, they will only live a year tops after being born. They seem like adults, so good luck with dead shrimp in a few weeks, months at most. But it's also hard to put small shrimp in there cause the fish will eat them. I'm not bashing, or hating. I actually LOVE Ghost Shrimp. They are insanely cheap, but are awesome to watch. It's also fun to get someone to find them all. Lol!

    you have pregnant ghost shrimp, if you want the shrimp fry to survive, you will want something like java moss for them to hide in, or put the pregnant ghost shrimp in a separate tank and when they are born put the mom in the big tank. the other fish and adult shrimp will eat the fry

    Ghost shrimp are cool my dude but not the greatest choice. If you want some shrimp that will colonize and continue to breed within the tank you should defiantly go with cherry shrimp. Purchase your self some of those and some java moss. Also get yourself some wood for them to graze on. Adding wood will also lower your ph and help with water quality. Just some tips for ya! Also shrimp breeding tubes are also very helpful with breeding. They're just usually three small tubes stacked in a triangular shape.
    Best of luck,
    Nick

    You've got a shrimp clutching eggs. Those green dots under the shrimp are shrimp eggs 😊 also, the red and orange shrimp are called cherry shrimp. I have kept them with betta's before, but it was a good idea to begin with ghost shrimp as they are larger than cherry's. I have had a betta eat cherry shrimp before, but have also successfully kept them with other bettas. Depends on your fish's temperament.

    Unfortunatly ghost shrimp require brackish (salt but not full marine) water in their larval stage, because unlike cherry shrimp they don't hatch out of the egg into miniature adults. So you wont see any baby's.

  • @chriswu1
    @chriswu1 7 років тому +1

    0o0 one of your shrimp came pregnant, that being said ghost shrimp larvae are hard to raise to maturity because of their fairly intense needs. For the most part I think ghost shrimp need a bit of salt in the water for best results because of where they originally come from. Also in terms of food liquid or powder food is what the larva will need early in life, unless you have allot of micro organisms in the tank to begin with. In that case you are fine mostly.

    Bettas can live with other fish, normally they are in 2,5 gallon tanks alone, but since you have what looks like a 10 gallon tank it shouldn't be too much of a problem. The other fish you have are quite a bit faster than the betta (Bettas aren't the best swimmers) that being said, you should probably not add more to your tank now, it's not too overcrowded but adding more will stress out your betta which might make it more aggressive
    Looks like a good first community tank though! You'll be more than addicted to this hobby in no time

    • @CloudzV16
      @CloudzV16 7 років тому +2

      But if you begin seeing damages to the tail of the betta it's because he has begun attacking fish / he has hurt himself on some of the plants (Only really goes if the plants are made of a rougher plastic material)
      If that begins happening you need to isolate him in a tank alone

    • @ChallengetheWild
      @ChallengetheWild  7 років тому

      +Reclade thanks so much my betta and fosh get along well, I might get a 20 gallon because they are on sail for a dollar a gallon

    • @ChallengetheWild
      @ChallengetheWild  7 років тому +1

      +Reclade it might have been the plastic of the plant because I got 2 real plants after and there has been no new damage

    • @CloudzV16
      @CloudzV16 7 років тому +2

      I suggest taking pictures of him from different angles, sometimes it's hard to notice differences in the damage of the fins if you look at him every day
      Compare him in a week or two to the pictures, if there is no further fin damage then the damage you see is probably from him being stressed the first time he was introduced to the tank

    You should cut a piece of filter sponge and put it over the filter intake to keep the shrimp from being sucked up

  • @toefungus903
    @toefungus903 7 років тому

    That’s overstocking the tank. If you really want the fish, be sure to do a gravel siphon and a 50% water change every week to prevent an ammonia spike

  • @cayladolly9552
    @cayladolly9552 7 років тому

    actually shrimp don't get a lot of protein and vitamins from just colllectinf algage and food off the bottom. I recommend getting freshwater shrimp pellets and feeding him 2 of the pellets every other day. Otherwise they starve.

    You should of used black rocks that way you can see the shrimp a lot easier. Also, Ive had a 20 gallon set up for about 3 weeks now and I put in about 17 ghost shrimp in and i think my platies and baby guppies have been eating them (yes my baby guppies are aggressive for their tiny size). That being said make sure you give them plenty of places to hide because mine stay hidden 24/7.

    Take all of these comments you get on here with a grain of salt. As someone who recently hardcore got into the hobby, all of my research has shown me that nothing is really set in stone. When someone tells you a "fact" research it. Most of the time it's false or only a little true. This is also a very expensive hobby and some of the things people suggest require a completely different set up than what you're running. I saw one person suggest a carpeting plant. Don't waste your money. They require high light and usually injected CO2. (Again even saying that, some people say you don't need injected CO2 and have had success without it) If you really want to get into the hobby and get the livestock you say you want, research everything exhaustively before you buy it. I use plantedtank.net and fishlore. They usually have VERY seasoned and knowledgeable people that are usually more than willing to give advice and tips. There is a lot of info to learn (as I'm sure you're finding) and a lot of it contradicts itself so it kind of still is a personal trial and error thing. Good luck and welcome to the hobby! And remember, RESEARCH! RESEARCH! RESEARCH!

But I love the shrimp addition just make sure your fish don't pick them off! They can breed really fast o babies because a snack for other fish so your tank shouldn't over populate :)

    Lol your like me. I'm 12 and I got my brother a betta fish for my brother for his birthday in August. And of course, like many, I did not do my research. I had him in a 1 gallon corner tank with freezing cold water. But, my knowledge has grown and he is now in a 2.5 gallon tank with a light and filter. Since then, I've gotten 2 more Betta fish (one of them died at the age of 2 years and 6 months, due to lack of care from a former owner), a ghost shrimp, a snail, and a 20 gallon tank with guppies, mollies, neon tetras, tetras, danios, and a bristle nose pleco. It seems to me that in the fish keeping hobby you learn from your mistakes and it just gets more and more addicting.

    Those ghost shrimps' backs look just like a slightly exaggerated version of one of my golden dojo loaches whose tuberculosis gave her a crooked back. It went away eventually, thank goodness, but she has a little trouble staying upright as she does quick turns. Had to relearn how to swim. Simply keeps on eating as she rolls over.

    I was just watching some videos on UV Sterilizers in tanks, they don't sound too costly. They really seem to work great but I never used one before, I just waited for the water to balance itself. What do people think about UVSs for milky water?

      Yeah, they get super expensive! That's why I think it's a good idea to start with Ghost Shrimp and make sure they can survive first. I don't want to kill any of them, but I'd rather lose Ghost Shrimp and not one that costs $10 or more.

    An Inca snail (also known as mystery snail) is a good snail to keep. I have one in my ten gallon divided tank. My tank is heavily planted so it has lots to eat and I also give it some extra food. The snail can grow up to two inches so I don't know if your tank can handle its bio load. My snail is one and a half inches long and it produces a lot of waste.
    I liked your ghost shrimp. I've had some before. They molt their skin every once in a while so don't forget to clean it up.

    • @musicalmarion
      @musicalmarion 7 років тому +1

      More real plants will help in your tank but it's usually the filter at fault, you might need a better one ! I used to add a bacteria culture you buy in a bottle, that eats up the cloudiness and balances the water, but water goes through natural stages, and the first one is cloudiness, and it will settle down if there is enough bacteria to restore the balance.

      I added Indian almond leaf and an amazon sword plant. He leaves can turn water tan/brown but it’s healthy for Betta. Not sure if it’s compatible with your other fish. I am adding shrimp to my tank today as a starter. If all goes well, I hope to add some tetras and loaches for a nice community tank.

  • @sallylouiseart1073
