Im excited to see more ghost shrimp videos, as a kid my family vacationed at cape cod Massachusetts and we would go to the bay, walk during low tide on sand bars, and enjoy the tide slowly coming in. Well once the water was 2 feet or more we would sit on the shore in the water and feel the shrimp pelting our legs as the waves came in. Its funny cuz you feel a rapid tap tap tap tap tap and you wont see them. All you see is their shadows as they come "flying" outta no where. I went again last year for the first time in 10 years and came across a ton of babies in shells id pluck from the sand. I was so happy to see their numbers on the rise! Thank you for reminding me of that :)
FYI some ghost hsrimps can change color of their carapcedepending on the susbtrate colors and food they get fed. I have seen clear ghost shrimp take on tan and rusty colors helping them blend into leaf litter and hide in plain sight from a figure eight puffer. sometomes they turn greenish too.
Yes these are common in reverse I grew up and we’ve seen them in all shades. Bronze, brown and even darker, really depends on the rocks as far as I see
Most ghost shrimp that you buy from box stores and local shops are actually brackish water shrimp. You will get some breeding but your yields won’t be very good. Just do a neocaridina set up and they will come in all kinds of bright colors. They can be expensive from stores but local breeders can offer great deals.
These lil shrimps are so cool. We bought 5 cherry shrimp and 5 ghost shrimp, 2 years later there is still 1 ghost left and hundreds of cherry! So cool to see them take over but not kill the fish
Good idea. Only problem is that while ghost shrimp will gladly live in freshwater, they need brackish water to actually hatch their eggs and raise the shrimplets. I’ve had many ghost shrimp with eggs but none ever hatch in freshwater.
It depends on the species, some are brackish, some are completely freshwater, all are labeled as ghost shrimp. I've had them reproduce in multiple freshwater tanks.
Whatever species I've raised in the past occasionally had offspring, but they were in very small numbers. For example I might've started with 6 ghost shrimp and then eventually ended up with 8 total. I saw eggs on the females but I'm thinking most of either didn't hatch or most of the baby shrimp were eaten. Brackish would've probably yielded better results.
@@bowfin3078 maybe some are misidentified as ghost shrimp ? Mine are wild caught and they looks really similar to ghost shrimp.Where do you get them from ?
@@keyboardwarrior1946 Some from Petsmart and some from another pet shop. Thinking about it I'm wondering if the cherry shrimp I had at the time could've been eating the baby ghost shrimp. I assumed fish weren't a problem since the cherries multiplied like crazy for awhile. Hadn't considered the cherry shrimp might've been a problem.
Awesome video Christopher. Ghost shrimp are native here in TX. Ours in the ponds we have are very hardy and multiply quick with fast moving planted water.
I literally just picked up one of these kiddie pools from Target the other day to hopefully propagate some plants and keep a few small fish for eating mosquito larvae (Houston, TX area so lots of mosquitos).
i used to fish with these ghost shrimp when i was a kid at a nearby pond. Literally has 0 knowledge about these little guy back then some dude at the pond gave me like 10 of these guy since i was a newbie to fishing game. end up with 0 fish that day, and got home put the shrimp aside in a plastic bag with 0 water forgot it need some fckin water the next day it STANKKKK lmao what a memory
You've promoted your website so many times throughout this video, till the point where I dont even want to take a look at it or come back to this channel. Get better at advertising, repetition is NOT the essence of success.
Yet you still go to Walmart & any other huge company that will send you multiple emails/texts in a day. I’m 6 mins into the video & the OP literally advertised his business twice.. if you don’t have a business to advertise, you probably don’t know how often we as business owners have to advertise our business. You’re weird for attacking a UA-camr that is just trying to make a living for himself.
gost shrimp tend to he more carnivorous then other shrimp so make sure they are getting the protein they want any type of pellet or flake food should have enough
LOL kudos for actually attempting to get GHOST shrimp on camera- at what point did you realize you didn't actually have to have any shrimp for this and people probably would have believed you XD
I am guessing you already know this but most species of ghost shrimp will only successfully reproduce and raise shrimplets in brackish water, that said I've had the same species reproduce in freshwater but just in much smaller numbers as in like 2 to 10 versus hundreds. Good luck this setup looks simple cheap and pretty despite it being a kiddie pool. Think I might try this for myself with other species of shrimp.
I don't understand the science here. How long can the shrimp survive in the baby pool? Specifically one solo shrimp. Also, does it need to be a ghost shrimp, or can you apply this to brine or even regular? Please answer I'm desparate.

Petition to get a peacock eel
Hey can you tell the shrimp I said “Hi” please?

Anyone else see a chocolate chip cookie when he mixed sand and black rock or am I just hungry
damn it! i was thinking same 🤣
That must be a lot of chocolate chips
Neat video. The constant push for the advertising is super annoying.
Yeah... I just wanted to see the tank. =(

What temperatures are you putting those ponds out? They seem like they would suffer from dramatic temperature changes since they are so shallow, no?
Yo, that bit about the sand bit is true. I get my hydroballs and soil from lowes or home depot because pet stores will charge way too much lol.
didn't have a clue about this till i saw this video, i hit the sub button👍
Ayo that some big cookie dough
Can them ghost shrimp survive over winter if the water stays above 40?
