THANK you! Luckily NIL such thing for my Atto3. I live in the West Coast of the most humid country: Singapore🙏🏼🌞😄🌴 exposed to the max: land and sea breezes everyday, next to the saltish sea!!!!! I'm a doctor, my brother runs a car mechanic shop! We were so scared seeing your post, that he took my EIGHT MONTHS old Atto3 exposed to rain and shine!!!and took things apart in those parts you mentioned and more! RESULT: NIL CORROSION nor RUST 🙏🏼😄🌴🌞🌞🎋
Haha, you fool, it's what you don't see that hurts, stick to the experts, the Japanese!!
BYD ATTO 3 👍👏💪🇸🇬
Won't happen if the car isn't wrecked. The car doesn't get just painted but it happens through ionization. He wrecked the car which led to high friction that will never even appear closely if the car is being used normally...even if you go off-road.
Yes exactly...it happens very fast in wrecked cars!!!!! They need to spray to loosen the joints to unfastened all these hard screws!!!!!
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Sigh, this saga is SIMPLY SOME SMEAR campaign initiated EASILY by rival car companies. Might be T****a, might be T.....a.
Lies! Lies! Lies!
I am old enough to remember how everyone was so impressed with the Lancia Beta. Looked good and a really spacious family car. Then there were reports of rust. Lancia quickly went from hero to zero and all Italian cars started to be looked on with suspicion.
As to the questions that the Viking asks such as "Is this normal?" and "Is this serious?" my answer would be that having rust on a £30k new car after a few months is unacceptable and should raise serious questions about BYD.
In the 1980s/1990s the CEO of the Scandinavian Airline SAS used to exhort his staff to achieve excellence in everything they did by saying " if a traveller notices coffee stains on the fold down tray on the back of the seat in front they will think-- if they can't clean the tray how good will their engine maintenance be? -- ". If BYD can't build a car body how can they build an electric motor? If I were the Viking I'd certainly be wary of telling the world to buy BYD cars!
There was a joke that even the plastic in Alfa Romeos rusted. That was in the 80s and they fixed it. (NB I drive an Alfa)
When Falcons first came to Australia my friend's Dad started a panel beating workshop to fix the rust before they were sold. I worked in a Lancia dealership, awesome cars but rust and other problems held them back. We had a customer who was a Qantas pilot and he dropped his car in one day and said he was being posted OS for 6 months so that should give us plenty of time to sort out all the problems his car had.
Don't believe Viking on everything he says. he is slightly biased towards BYD even if he did own one. If there indeed are issues on BYD Atto3 which seems unlikely considering millions of Chinese live on the coast and seem to be happy buying these more than any other brand despite heaps of choice. But even if they are they are not as big as Tesla's mainstream quality issues on American made cars widely reported for over a decade globally which Viking never adressed because he loves the brand.
@@ciybersal9833 in a video about byd you can also mention tesla 🤣. Get a life you byd shill. He literally owns and drives a BYD atto3 right now
@@ciybersal9833 I'm curious if this is Australia only. Maybe its too salty in Sydney for BYD'S usual paint job. Lived in Shanghai. BYD buses and cars are everywhere there. But many Chinese coastal cities are actually not near the sea. They are on large rivers several miles inland
A guy scavenged a smashed car, and finds surface rust, yeah that’s normal. More information is needed. But I have been to smash wreckers to scavenge parts and always find rust somewhere.
Yeah same here but on a 6 month old car? And take a look at the photos... There's rust in between two panels which are normally sandwiched together and mainly where the bolt holes were.... That's not right.
It's not just the Atto 3 a friend of mine has a BYD van from around 6 years ago it had rust coming out a couple of years after buying it , coming out on the panels visible from the outside.
Thanks for the infomation, I was about to order one Atto 3, Now I will think again. The rust looks horrible.

Most probably BYD is innocent on this case. (Technics SL1200G/GAE) in comment here (ua-cam.com/video/TzMzDbr9p04/v-deo.html) dissembled his atto3 (8 months), no rusty at all. it could be test by any atto 3 user, easy.
Most likely you find rust at unimaginable places after a car is wrecked, no matter what brand. It is written off for a reason.
Not on bolts like this, to wide spread.
The pictures show corrosion of dissimilar metals likely from choosing the wrong bolts, nuts, washers etc from factory.
🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔I searched in Chinese, and I also found many articles complaining about Tesla's rust. It seems that human beings have encountered new problems. If you are near a substation, there will be electrostatic effects. Substations generate extremely low frequency electromagnetic fields. The actual impact on the surroundings is mainly the electromagnetic induction effect, such as the static electricity generated when taking off a sweater in a dry environment. .For cars with batteries (Tesla, BYD), the body will be charged with static electricity, and every discharge (in humid air) will complete an oxidation process, which may be the root cause of electric car rust.😩😩😩
No articles on Tesla rust. Post a link.
Sandy Munroe would be the best person to ask if this is common in new cars or not 👍
Mr Sandy was busy reversed engineer Tesla cars then sell it to the Chinese. Now he is working full time for the Chinese so I wouldn't ask him for his opinions on this.
You should not project your values on Sandy or anyone else.

As someone said in the comments, it looks like galvanic induced rust, probably due to incompatible metals, probably the bolts themselves have a metal composition not compatible with the car’s body panels.
Whatever the reason the problem remains until it is fixed.
The first thing I thought of also was galvanic rust. It plagued GM cars of the ' 70's, noticicibly the Chevy Vega. They rusted at just the thought of moisture. It was common to see the windshield frames rusting away. This would not happen on a Volvo, you can be sure.
@@sputnik94115 I wouldn't be so sure now that Volvo are Chinese owned...
Rust increases if there are electrical grounding issues?
@@stvybaby I think it is more a problem of metal alloys incompatibility creating currents at contact points. On boats they have sacrificial metal blocks in direct contact with the water to manage galvanic corrosion, these catalyst blocks gets eaten by the corrosion and by so protect the ship hull of rust.
All rust starts as surface rust !

Well after John Cadogan exposed that LDV ute in Qld that was a rust bucket, that started the alarm bells ringing.
Not All engineering is software. Legacy absolutely has a huge advantage in making vehicles that last in terms of Year's, not cycles. The steel is also thinner now. 100 years of monopolies tend to do this though. EV engineering absolutely need to concentrate more on quality (how many years should it last). Rust is never a good thing
Thank for being this up. I never thought that rust can be a killer in a used car collision. Should we begin crash test on used models?
Hey, I live right on the beach and we all park our cars out on the street just across the road from the beach. This is Wellington, which is an extreme marine environment . Our cars do rust, but nothing like what those photos show. Mainly it is the subframes and underbody components like suspension, pipework, brackets etc. The bodywork itself stays fairly rust free. BTW I remember seeing that LDV uses in Aus had body panels rusting really badly, wasn't there a lawsuit about that. LDV blamed the owner for parking near a beach. Seems like some steel may be substandard, or treatment is not up to spec.
There where once famous Fiat and Alfa Romeo that rusted the same way! All due to Russian steel with too much sulfur in. We had a Giulietta from a special serie made with steel from Sweden and that car only had rust issue on the exhaust system we later changed. If we would still own that car it would cost a fortune now… BYD will however quickly loose market especially in Europe with such issues. Low cost on important parts does only pay for short and is a bad idea to earn trust and confidence. 🤑🤮😎🇨🇭

When I had my 08 VW Golf5(Rabbit here in the US-Los Angeles), when I looked up the steering column, all of it's parts had surface rust. After a few months, after I have purchased it new,
Yeah, could see this coming down Broadway. Car manufacturers never learn. Saw a video of a Subaru. Not that old. They put it on a lift and stopped when it started bending in the middle. Completely rusted out frame. Had to replace the whole engine cradle on my Acura. Just no excuse.
Viking didn't tell the full story --- said Atto 3 is currently being sold on pickles. It's been written off, suffered frontal damage and has been parked in a salvage yard for some time.

1979 in the states I bought a New Mazda pickup that the fenders rusted through in 6 months. Mazda replaced them on all trucks but I'd sold it by then. I'd hoped manufacturers had cured that problem.
Like nobody saw this coming?... EXACTLY what I said about Chinese cars... i.e. there WILL be inherent quality issues by definition, BECAUSE they are Chinese made! Think Honda (first models were notorious rust buckets) It may be a characteristic of large industrial 'evolution' in general, either intentional or 'evolutionary' but early models are going to have quality issues, and China will be NO EXCEPTION... TESLA may be an exception, because they are an EXCEPTIONAL company... but even their earlier models won't be as good as their later models...
Not a hint of prejudice here, of course.
I think we also have to take into account how much these companies are prepared to support their customers, and from what I have seen, EVDirect Australia don't give a rat's arse about their customers, where as MG appears to be supporting their customers, and is investing in the country with showrooms and service centres.

Car age is measured in winters in New York, where they spread car solvent on the roads 5 months out of the year. If you get ten years you're lucky. Surface rust you can see and fix, but internal unibody rust means you junk your car.
I remember when exhaust systems were made of plain steel and you'd get two years out of them.
As John Cadogan said in his video, it's most likely just occurring as surface rust in areas where the galvanic protection can't get in between assembled parts during the galvanizing dipping process. If they are in fact properly galvanized then it won't be a problem as the zinc coating will act as a sacrificial material to prevent the spread of oxidation through the steel in these localized areas.
If they are galvanized.
Rust problem in Australia?? Australia is dry warm & sunny.
What will happen in northern Europe & US?
Salt, rain and slush .
More people live on Chinese east coast than Europe and Australia combined. If this was true, millions of them won't go near this brand yet this sells in gazillions far, far outselling everything else including his beloved brand. Unless there are more reports this seems highly unlikely and "worrisome rust issues" tagline is sensationalism, something he accuses MSM for a long time...
@@ciybersal9833 Any real objective reports on rust in China? Maybe not. "hide it" might be the situation
looks like galvanic corrosion. two slightly different steels create a battery effect on the contact surface
A relative of mine worked all his working life in a major UK steelworks and firmly believed that the reason that Japanese cars didn't rust so much in the 1970-80's when all other nationalities vehicles were rusting severely was because the Japanese manufacturers insisted on "double rolled steel" and everyone else didn't. So perhaps one of the reasons (apart from cheaper labour) that Chinese vehicles are less expensive is that the quality of steel being used is inferior.
well i did gazillions of rust repairs in a Toyota Dealership through the early 80is
If they rust in Australia, they'll fall appart in a canadian winter's road salt. 😅
Rust in the fastening part of the construction site is inevitable for almost all brands. When bolts and nuts are fastened, the rust-proof coating will definitely be destroyed. Generally, the original parts are basically fine, and the more the vehicle is repaired and dismantled, the more obvious it will be. Does not affect the safety, use and service life of the vehicle, just go to the car repair shop and have a look.
within 6 months of manufacture ?
Photographs taken immediately after a NZ Atto crash showed rust between door hinge and B pillar. Normally hidden from view but exposed as the door was ripped off the hinges.
Don't lie. No other manufacturer has rust issues like this. It stopped being acceptable over 20 years ago. BYD likely cut a corner and this is the end result.
This looks like it’s been dismantled then left out in the elements. Sure if there was rust bubbling through the paint it would be a concern. BYD have been making buses for a decade without them becoming rusty. Let Sandy Munro dismantle one and we’ll see if it’s rusty or not.
The problem with this is that the car is barely on the road. It would be "acceptable" even for a 3-4 year old car but not something that barely has driven. I can only guess it happens to some other brands but that doesn't give excuse to them as well lol. I'm no expect on the subject, but if practically speaking rust issues downgrade the safety of the car that much then yeah i'd be concerned for a practically new car. And like he said in the video, in few years theres no way of knowing wether it can be deadly or not... But car companies should take the stuff you mentioned into more consideration anyway, not just BYD.
I live on Miami Beach I am maybe a few hundred feet from the water. I had a Tesla M3 for four years prior to selling it and buying a M.Y. I have also had a BMW 3 and many Lexus. I have never seen a bit of. rust on any of my vehicles. Seeing rust on a BYD vehicle after such a short time is not normal.
The part where BYD car rust is hidden in the car and only exposed during a accident. I don't think you can see how much your car rust without being in a car accident
John Cadogan put out a good video on this. His point is that we don't know if the BYD's are galvanized or not, but if they are, then a few localised rust problems are not going to spread and become an issue.
I worked for many years on cars from wrecking yards. This looks very much like they unbolted that cross-member or whatever component was bolted there. Until then the paint/dip sealed that joint and I'll bet no rust was seen at that time. Then sitting in the weather in a wrecking yard with bare metal exposed shows exactly as much rust as I'd expect.
Cadogan admitted this could be the case.
I was having reservations about the poor buying experience in Australia reported by some customers and now this, means a hard no on the Atto for me, looks like I'm off to MG or Ora where at least there is a bricks and mortar I can complain to when shtf.
Tesla has some issue rust issues。They both use All-aluminum body。BYD learn from Tesla. Tesla will rust certain humidity。😃😃😃
Having a dealer to complain to didn't do much for LDV ute owners (or Nissan Navara owners). Best to avoid any hint of rust issues. Manufacturers can learn from this, look at Toyota - 25 years ago Grier cars rusted badly, a lot of owners got burned. But Toyotas just do not rust now.

That’s a huge resale problem they will have to sort by recall, or lose sales
you can practically forget about resale for EVs older than 2 years. In China nobody wants 2nd hand Tesla as the new ones offer discounts.
I don't think the recall will be a huge problem. Most of their car sales are in China and they dosen't have any major rust problem. So they only have to recall vehicle that's outside of China
It's not at all acceptable. That much in a few months? In Europe that is a big NO.
And it's a structural issue - you might have it and be totally oblivious until is too late.
Now I understand the shady warranty conditions.
I suspect a couple of problems.
First is galvanic corrosion from dissimilar metals.
Second is poor surface preparation for good application of rust prevention measures.
Third is lack of assembly and service workmanship practices aligned with good preservation outcomes.
I think this rust appeared after the car accident and after the car was dissassembled and spent some time on the open air.
The rusty area looks like it hasn't been passivated or undercoated in any way for it to rust like that.
Keep telling yourself that, no proof either way. Would need to pull a good sample size apart and see if they have the rust. Alternatively just wait a couple of years and if it is a problem the car will fall to bits.
If that were the case there would be more rust everywhere and not in specific spots like it was.
@@OneIdeaTooMany , rust appears only on damaged places.

They are also selling in ASEAN islands of philipines, Thailand, Malaysia -the rusting capitals of the world but no problem reported like this yet
Also fact is viking is picking on BYD recently and also calls himself unbiased yet never ever picks on any of Tesla's numerous problems for over a decade (all1500+ videos). BYD is also outselling his favourite brand in numerous countries and gaining traction in europe. Call spade a spade, The "@worrying rust issues" headline is sensationalism /clickbait until proven otherwise.
@@IceCubebecd I see no Tesla rust reports. Tell us or knock it off.
Or in the land of ice and snow, AKA Canada. We use lots of road salt. Buyer beware...
That is an ALARMING amount of rust this soon. Especially in the areas it was found, structural connections. These cars will turn to swiss cheese in short order in a northern climate that uses de-icing. Maybe 5 years?
Any vehicle garaged and used mostly within 50km of the coast will tend to rust. This includes in Australia.
The reason is not just greater rainfall and humidity but that what rain does happen near the coast, has higher salt content.
Near where I live in Batemans Bay (on the coast south of Sydney), second hand car dealers offer a premium for 'Goulburn cars' that the seller can demonstrate were mostly used and garaged there.
This is because Goulburn is about 70 km inland and has a much drier climate. Vehicles from this area are renowned for minimal rust.
Regular washing, preferably at a carwash using clean water, will help keep rust at bay.
An issue not yet fully appreciated in EVs will be galvanic corrosion arising from the HV battery. In ICE cars with a maximum of 12V in the electrical system, these days this is manageable due to better grounding arrangements, but EVs with their high voltages in the hundreds will potentially exacerbate the issue.
All right, pointing out the flaws - yep we’ve got some rust in the corner panels, but does the horn work? Place your bets.
If people are wondering why some cars are more expensive than others, even if they aren't from a "fancy" brand and it competes against a similar car in its category... This is one of the reasons why. Equipment can be similar, performance and economy can be similar, the driving experience can be similar... But the assembly itself and attention to detail is different. I'm not saying any car should be built like a 4th gen Golf, but if BYD won't be able to deliver same safety results or close to when it was new in couple of years or so then yeah it would be concerning for the company. And no i'm not trying to diss on BYD, if any car won't be able to do that then they aren't really that much worthy.
IMO this is the result of cutting corners to cut costs. Possibly, BYD used less rust protector, and/or perhaps didn’t dip the unibody in a rust-resistant bath. Chinese automakers will eventually figure out where they can and cannot cut manufacturing costs.
As an owner Sam. What corrosion warranty were you given when you bought the car ? Also Norway is where most of BYD’s exports end up so you would think the problems would manifest themselves there due to the weather conditions? Be interesting to see if other Chinese brands have similar issues.
Check facts; Norway is a salt country, due to safety - all roads receive an incredible amount of salt every winter to reduce the risk of ice. And therefor the importer of BYD in Norway, make an extended anti-rust treatment on every BYD they deliver. Well, this isn't special to BYD, all car importers - no matter driveline has done this for 30 years at least in Norway. So BYD will not rust more, or quicker than any other brand. We still remember the first 10 years with Japanese cars in Norway, when this was more or less ignored - and they only lasted for 10 years due to rust. But in the end of that time the Japanese understood. The Chinese already understand - from the beginning.
From the original poster that highlighted potential rust issues, it looks like the front and chassis were bolted together then dipped (galvanized/electroplated) instead of dipping individual parts such as the chassis first before bolting on the front hence there is rusting occuring at those areas. Are we over reacting? maybe. Would these sorts of issues be a problem in certain models by other brands? Perhaps.
Don't think other traditional ICE car brand does this so early on
@@james_l4337 U would think so. At the moment can only wait till BYD respond. Fingers crossed it isn't a widespread issue....

Because these connection joints as in clips no matter it is bolt nuts or spot welding points, These joints could not be reach covered by protecting solution such elctro plating or hot dip galvanized.
Sound like BYD did not fill the treatment tank to adequate level.
I feel you 😐 my honda civic rust like crazy! It's truly worrying, and saddening at the same time. Yet I couldn't afford a new car any time soon. Used cars on the other hand are way more expensive then a new car where I live 😂😂😂 what a crazy world! Wish all the price gouging and whatever chip shortage thing could end soon.. yet those CEOs are making billions and billions don't think they would want to stop.
I don't think they will be the first, or last with this problem as the MG4 (manufactured by Chinese conglomerate SAIC) also has potential to rust in key / critical areas (here in the UK), yes it rains a lot here but they arrived at the port / dealership with signs of surface rust (wheel bolts, especially) Signs of overly aggressive cost cutting to hit price perhaps ? In any event, not a great sign
Hi, I went for a Leaf for this reason, new to market and no history could leave you holding the baby!
Also of USA customers love the idea of the cyber truck with a Stainless Steel body for its corrosion resistance and it was their first comment. They spoke from experience and wanted vehicles that would last.
I don’t miss rusty cars…….
Take care all M.
Tesla has some issue rust issues。They both use All-aluminum body。BYD learn from Tesla. Tesla will rust certain humidity。😃😃😃
@@IceCubebecd wow buddy. Every comment huh. Good bot!!

Bot is you if u take sacrosanct to everything Viking utters. Millions of chinese living on the east coast buying into this brand for years despite heaps of choice. Is this even true? Viking has targeted BYD in the past but never addressed Tesla buld quality issues which are very well know globally for over decade. this Story Seems hypocritical at best and fake at worst.
@mac H Unfortunately even the good old Nissan Leaf has a potentially serious rust problem with its front suspension where water can get into this area and sit there and after many years of slow rusting can eat into that and the whole front suspension can fail! There is an easy fix, just need to remove the water rust treat it re paint the area then fit some covers
Zinc coating done properly will self heal on steel, I have seen this happen when repair some Citroen and Peugeot vehicles. Rust like this will eventually rot the thin steel. BYD need to do a proper dip I
In the zinc tank.
Add to this the front end fires in China and Thailand brake rotor cracking .

No fires at all why spew lies?
@@IceCubebecd are you a bot, you’ve put this exact reply numerous times, just like a bot.
Rust always starts on the surface, that is a physical reality. If they aren't rust proofing hidden surfaces or sealing them so they don't get exposed to moisture then it's a disaster waiting to happen. Some of that looked like salt ingress, so maybe that car was garaged near the sea? Maybe he had a boat and tried to launch it off the trailer into the ocean? I think the jury is still out on this one.
What platform do you buy byd shares on?
Hey Sam, will you still be doing an in-depth review of your Atto 3? Looking forward to hear your unfiltered views on your ownership experience so far.
Does he even own an EV?
@@nq6417 Nope good old Electric Viking is back to being a non EV owner after over 18 months of starting his channel lol
@@gregb1599 this channel is literally to fund his wife's medical care, cant blame him lmao. Even wrong ev information sells nowadays
@@gregb1599 stage 4 cancer.
@Richard S Yes and it is very sad and I think the Viking is nuts not to spend every last minute with his wife. But Sam did start his channel 18 months ago and as far as I am aware she was not sick then. And I stand by my comment cancer and all other life threatening diseases are free in Australia. And they have a very good support system that helps with payments for not working. So no reason to sell his Atto 3 when he could of sold his polluting ICE BMW.
Am I wrong? Probably I always seem to be wrong but I just question why after 18 months of bashing ICE that he still drives one...
Sam Sam, please tell us why you sold your Atto3?
Mine is due for delivery very soon ands need to know especially now we hear about rust issues.
No rust is not normal in such a new car. The thing is what is the anti-rust protection like inside structural items? Seems BYD etc is going to learn the hardway as Lancia and Fiat did in the UK. In fact I think Lancia stopped selling in the UK for some years as a result.
If there are areas not treated , they will rust, that is a given. In Eu salt is used extensively on roads.
Hope Sam understands the build quality of BYD EVs now. The unprecedented production ramp without quality control leads to a disaster.
Just been speaking to a panel-beating mate in the UK, who was saying that brand new Chinese-made MGs (did not discuss models) have been seen with rust coming through the paintwork. Viking, I would like to see a video on other brands and models regarding rust. Are all manufacturer's processors the same when it comes to rust?
BYD Atto 3 in both Australia and New Zealand has 6 years/150,000 km factory warranty on the vehicle body. So if other Atto 3 owners find such issue, they can request BYD Australia to fix, No ? Referring to dismantled parts from a wrecked car as an evidence of quality issues seems misleading at the very least.
Salt on the roads is a very fast car killer. --Not generally a problem in Australia as salt is not used on the roads.
Given where the issies are it is probably as simple as a paint preparation issue in manufacturing
LDV lost a court case a year or so ago for severe rust in their T60 Ute. They wanted to charge the guy over $49K to fix it ( whilst still inside warranty period ) because he worked close to the coast. He had even paid for rust proofing!! The court basically found it was made from poor quality materials. So Buyer BEWARE CHINESE brand cars, especially depending on where you live.
Bog Your Dreams
Lol 🤣😅🤣
Rust on thin sheet metal after 6 months is always an issue. Especially in crevice, it can go extremely fast.
Shoulda bought a Magna! My Magna is 18 years old - no rust - still going strong.
Our Chinese built Tesla had very poor paint that chipped ridiculously. So bad we sold it after 3 months!
Imagine after 5-6 years in the upper midwest of USA where they use road salt and sprays. Probably will be falling apart.
But, don't they use large aluminum castings for structural members and bodies? Wonder how much steel they use AND what grade? Cheaper grades rust faster
Are they galvanized? Chinese vehicles have a very patchy track record with gal, which is a bit of an issue in Aus, where we all live on the coast...
Wow, just wait until north European and UK roads get hold of them with piles of road salt. What Also Romea use to be is now BYDs nightmare. Cutting corners with anti rusk treatment, good paint and good design never works.
Rust already? I gives some pause as to quality control with the rush to get their foot into the international EV segment. So I agree with John H there; this is really a negative hit on BYD to let out something of this sort of quality. I have a 70 year old Volvo that sounds like it has less rust than this new vehicle.
I'm assuming kit has a pretty good warranty?
Well lock under a VW passat, tack down The plastic cower on the chassi on a 3-4 yera old VW, in EU they found out that 60% of al checked VW had serious rust on the lower chassi and deformation zones..
That's why I will never spend big money (Tesla or so) as you can neer see what's inside & you leave the car exposed to harsh conditions.
Better to buy new BYD Seagull (level $13-21k+ AU charges) every 7 years & not think about cumulated mechanical issues. Everything should be refurbished/upgraded to more effective tech as the tech cycles are becoming shorter.
you missed the other one in nz as well
In Canada where salt is used to de-ice road, this will be a problem. Why can't they use plastic and aluminum or galvanized steel in car bodies??
Where or what country, were these rust images taken?
Sam, I just saw your fellow Aussie, Auto Expert John Cadogan, on his channel talk about this BYD rust issue. He said there was information that the steel for cars made in India are not galvanized if sold for domestic use, and only galvanized for exported cars. He said in China, cars sold for domestic use are commonly not galvanized, and that "some" cars for export may be galvanized or partially galvanized, although he said it was difficult to determine which ones. He also noted that for proper rust protection, galvanized steel need minimum 70 grams per square meter of surface area (140 grams when doing both sides of the steel). Sounds like I would be worried if considering a BYD to find out for sure if I was getting a [properly] galvanized export model or a non-galvanized domestic sales China model. Just FYI.
That bloke doesn't have a clue what he's on about... I don't think any cars are hot dipped galvanized...and he hates EVs
They are a 10 year car then chuck them away,I’m waiting to see how the MG4 holds up,in hind sight avoid Chinese cars

Sam...check out EVs and beyond on this subject....might be worth another video
How is Tesla rated for rust? Copper wires throughout?
Isn't it hot and dry in Australia? If so how is it rusting in such dry environment??
Imagine the rust in the rust belt here in Canada
Not normal. I used to run the rotodip & EPD for Leyland
They better start fixing this.
It seems to me to be clear that this is a manufacturing problem where the anti rust application is not being applied to some parts of the BYD cars. This is a MAJOR SHORT AND LONG TERM PROBLEM which BYD really cannot fix on every BYD car.
I can't imagine how they would hold together in upstate New York
Hi I noted you mentioned you sold your BYD, did you make a video on why you made this decision?
What a surprise!! Don't buy a brand that's new on the market. Buy a brand that has proven itself, don't gamble with things that cost a lot of money.
For a lot of people buying Teslas it's not a lot of money to them, all it is is pocket change.
But your comment holds #Value for those people who have to get a 7 year Loan in order to be a owner of a Tesla or an expensive EV or ICE Vehicle.
Yes keep buying Teslas which have the widest reported quality issues of any EV manufacturer on earth for the last decade or so. FACT.
This is a first opportunity to see what BYD is made of. Hopefully they do right by owners.
So what is the response by BYD after this video was aired? It would be good if BYD release a statement in regards to the rust issues on the Atto 3.
Ha, they must be using 70’s tech steel. Hopefully they use the same steel in their military equipment too.
Gosh, you are so gifted in extrapolation you should make it a career! Any thoughts on the brand spanking new British aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth returning to dock (out of service) only after one month of deployment? Shall we say British technology sucks or just the usual teething problems?
When Viking first started on BYD, I commented, that my Brother, who has lived in China for 15 years told me that BYD made cheap and nasty cars that people only bought if they couldn't afford anything else.
I was assured by other posters that that was in the past........hmmmmmm.
