I don't think the specials on some of the important NPC's are really indicative of their capabilities. Their backstories often differ wildly. Fantastic should really have more charisma than brains. House is supposed to be a prodigy level genious but you could say his intelligence stat has degraded along with his body while being in that medical pod of his. The rest are kind of a grab bag for the most part. Granted a 3 intelligence for Benny is probably fitting. He's not nearly as smart as he believes himself and it really shows.
I get the impression that a lot of those Special figures are either randomly generated or otherwise randomly input. Because in the game they don't actually matter all that much outside of combat, nor are they accessible or knowable by the player
The C-Finder will always be a classic weapon for one of my favorite glitches. So I began firing the weapon at a few cazadors. The weapon showed the final stage where the lines blinked but no laser appeared. So after fighting off the cazadors I head back to freeside and see the beams again but stuck between one side of freeside and near the kings hideout. After multiple saves (and a few fast travels) I had completely forgot that my gun was glitched them out of no where as I finish fast traveling the laser just goes off and kills an entire caesar’s legion attack force in front of me.

Helios One is a real thing. Goes by a different name though. On I-15 coming from Vegas into California. The wife and I left Vegas to head to Disney land. We stopped in Primm to get gas and continued on the I-15. I had my face buried in my phone looking at and comparing new Vegas maps and cities to the real ones we saw. I looked up in the distance and saw a bright white glow ahead. It was noon on a very clear sunny day yet there was still a bright glow on the horizon. As we got closer I saw it. A huge circular field of mirrors shining beams of sun light to a tower located in the center. It was god damn amazing. Even on the bright sunny day, the light coming from the mirrors was distinctly in the form of bright white beams. Nipton and Bonnie springs were cool too.
Courier: *At Helios One* Welp time to turn on the Solar Panels. What's this..? *At Freeside* Boy: Stacy take this haha *proceeds to shoot the gun* Eradicates Stacy..
As NCR, I'd send the power to Strip and McCaran, as House/Independent, I'd send the power to all regions, and as Legion, I'd use the power to wipe out the NCR so the Legion can move in. This is why I love RPGs, the little flavor choices like this.
Teal Marjira that is Vault 69, 999 women, 1 man. It failed due to the vaults inability to reproduce. The opposite is also true, Vault 68 has 999 men and 1 woman. One is far worse than the other
I always picked "Fantastic's" pocket and put a grenade in, just after I shared grid power to everyone, then walked away as Fantastic turned into a fantastic mess sprayed across the walls.
*WHAT?!* There's a electronic trip wire that activates those Protectrons?! I had always thought that them robots would just automatically attack when I enter the area. Never would I have known about that trip wire, ...Until now. Just...Wow!
Can we take a moment to appreciate the fact that we can activate ARCHIMEDES while Max still has Elucid's C-Finder. It's a miracle half of Freeside was not eliminated.
It would be amazing if you set up the weapon while you don't own it, if you take more then 24 hours to find it you will find the weapon in a spot hit by the laser with the kid dead
I loved Fantastic in New Vegas, he was such a dork. Fallout 4 seems a little dry of characters like him, that's what made New Vegas so good, even in little side quests the dialogue and characters are so interesting.
I tried to use the emergency power level, assuming it would output power everywhere at a reduced rate, e.g. enough to power emergency lights and that kinda stuff, but no, it doesn’t, and I accidentally overloaded and blew up Helios.
What I don't understand is why didn't the Brotherhood of Steel and NCR simply agree for the Brotherhood to keep Helios One in exchange for providing the NCR along with the rest of the Mojave with whatever power Helios One is capable of? The NCR and strip would get energy for their citizens, the Brotherhood could keep a dangerous weapon out of the wrong hands, and they both could have avoided the blood shed the battle entailed.
Thing is, the Brotherhood know that Helios One is part of a weapon of mass destruction and it's pretty much their _raison d'etre_ to keep such things in safe hands... i.e. their hands. However, the BoS also know that the NCR know that WMDs are the BoS's main gig so when the NCR come sniffing around Helios One, which was occupied by the BoS, their basic doctrine meant they _had_ to try and stop them taking control of the facility, even though they _knew_ a vital part, the rangefinder, was missing. It's always the same for any group that have such extreme views as the Brotherhood do, that those views can and do lead them into situations such that, while others might see a need to compromise, they cannot without betraying their fundamental ideals. Veronica Santangelo understands that the Brotherhood needs to adapt for their very survival, but the prevalent attitude among them is that it's better to sink with all hands while they _do their sworn duty_ than to take to the lifeboats. And it should be said that the NCR should really have learned to respect other peoples boundries by now. Basically, all it needed was there to be one gung-ho idiot on either side and bloodshed becomes as inevitable, ironically, as sunrise.
Actually. It's even worse than that. They went to Helios 1 on the word of Elijah that it was a weapon without any real confirmation that it was. many of them didn't want to be there and they fought horribly over it at Elijah's command. When they were forced out by the NCR who need power to help drive their movement as well as wanting to know just why the BoS wanted it that's when Elijah left to go find another weapon. it was Elijah more than the Mohave BoS as a whole that was weapon obsessed. And in Dead Money we get to see why. He's not just driven to collect them but use them. Even as Extreme as the BoS can be Elijah was still an extremist in comparison and that made him highly dangerous. The NCR are happy just getting power out of it and not even knowing that the weapon part of it exists. Granted if they are in control of it I'm sure somebody smart enough to figure it out would come along eventually.
Because the NCR is not the altruistic group it pretends to be. I forget who says it, but someone said, "the NCR will simply create a situation where they can justify their occupation and control of the area's resources." This is a reference to the US selling Sadam the materials to make biological and chemical weapons, then invading him for those same components, as well as fabricating false flag attacks in order to justify military action. Also we see the NCR makes treaties and then breaks them when it finds this convenient. The Khan's agreed to forgive the NCR for their past genocide and fight alongside them. The NCR responded by taking over the Khan's territory and demanding the Khan's leave. This is a reference to how the US treats American Indians. The NCR slaughters men, women, children, alike, once they've decided a group is dangerous. They did this to the Khans, the Kings, the Brotherhood, and probably many more. This is a reference to many things, including Waco, Agent Orange, Project Phoenix, Firebombing Tokyo, Napalming Dresden, and nuking Hiroshima. In all instances the US military targeted civilians in order to achieve their purposes. They also negotiate for peace, then attack when the other side drops their guard. We get to see this with the Khans who surrendered to the NCR, and the NCR decided that was the best time to kill them. This is probably a reference to many situations in many wars where surrendered enemies were found slaughtered and no investigation was done to find out who was responsible, as the military doesn't want to implicate their own troops. Someone else says in game, "the NCR legalizes in the Senate whatever act of aggression they want to do." This is self explanatory. I remember all of these because they were all based off of common criticisms of US foreign policy. US based gamers don't see a problem with the NCR, even though they're clearly the dangerous, greedy, corrupt, imperialistic war mongers, because US gamers think those things are okay. The game was practically designed to challenged the gamer to start thinking about their own culture more critically, but unfortunately there's no achievement for that, so few bother.
As someone with a STEM degree and most of my friends being REAL engineers, I absolutely loved this guy and his quest. I about lost it at the "Theoretical Degree in Physics" line. I could walk on and take this dude's job right now if I wanted.
There is one part that really bothers me though, Helios One is a concentrated solar generator, reflectors boiling water or similar. Yet you can still use parts from it to repair the solar field for the boomers ¯\_( ͠° ͟ʖ °͠ )_/¯

I always set the power to go everywhere. The Followers are the faction in the game I can really support and get behind. They're goal is to help as many people as they can. The C-Finder is kind of like the Broadsider. It's fun to get once and play around with or cheat in and just go wild. But it's not very practical.

As you talked about how giving the power to everyone is the best choice I was like "Well that's easy to say when you can just mod it into your inventory on PC" Yet you went on about how its only a one use every 24 hours and how "yeah its fun but not too practical". It really helped me decide on this part lol.

I love how the terminal on the mainframe refers to Freeside as Fremont & Westside, it’s a nice little thing to show it’s pre-war. I wish that was done more in this game as its a bit of a puzzle to remember Fremont is probably Freeside, and it always breaks my immersion a bit when I find something pre-war that keeps caps in a safe when they were useless, or refers to something by its post-war name. I always pick that option since the full region said it was likely to cause brownouts, I didn’t want to cause the power to be mostly useless by having it cutting off all the time, and Freeside is the second best option.
ethical i could do any of the three, Fremont and Westside, NCR DOES have the Dam so giving power to those two poor settlements would be the most efficient use of it for improving the Mojave on the whole. McCarran and Las Vegas Strip, NCR are the ones protecting, maintaining, and funding the plant as such they do have ownership of the power, everything else is leeching off of them Full region, the humanitarian option, everyone gets a little bit of the power and all suffers the frequent brownouts as a result. the morally good option but not really a "good" option.
I think that powering Arch. II could also be ethical. In fact, if you intend to use it against the Legion, then choosing the weapon is arguably it's the most ethical choice, since keeping the Legion out of the Mojave does the most good for the most people.
If the Legion can be stopped without using the weapon (which they most certainly can) then it is more a foolish choice than an ethical one. But come on, who doesn't love space lasers!?
The Legion intends to use every resource they can muster to take the Dam. A task at which they only narrowly failed in the past. If you intend to defeat the Legion, I'd say that it'd be foolish NOT to muster every possible resource that you can.
Why would he show up on the opposite side of the continent when the only way for him to get there would have been to walk, and through Legion territory at that?
(Engineer at Poseidon Energy) You know what, I *COULD* make a practical looking range-finder, but why not make it look like a space laser? (Guy designing weapons for FoNV) "That's my story guys" (Also, for the record, the spy is the telephone operator, not the friend of the friend of the friend of the friend of your wife, If I'm correct. P.S. The general is very short so that's why I made the terminal one foot off the ground, Not like I was being dumb or anything) It also says "Burnouts likely" when sending power to everyoe And finally, I'd love to see a five year old kid (Preferably baby heavy from TF2) using a satellite targeting system or being hailed as a hero But most Importantly, This proves the U.S.S.R was an enemy of the U.S. actively trying to steal/claim the last barrels of petrol
I really hope you continue to do this new vegas lore series. NV has so many interesting people/locations/stories. Idk, I may be a little bias because this was the first fallout game I ever owned, but I think it's the most interesting.
This quest is one of the examples that for me solidify why NV was so much better than F3. The myriad of options and slight variations compared to most F3 quest that basically have a 'black/white' or 'good/evil' divide. Love the video!
James Legrand Both are good in their rights. New Vegas feels more fleshed out, has great mods, good DLC and runs better than Fallout 3. Fallout 3 is good in it's own rights, the story isn't the best, but some if the characters are good, the DLC is also pretty good, some of the mechanics in the game were improved upon in NV, and it is a little difficult to get running at times (even without mods). Honestly play both, they're both good, but NV is just a teeny bit better (vanilla) and only gets better with mods. Sorry for dragging on with my comment, I rewrote it twice.
Well Dashing touched on some things and that's pretty accurate. For me what makes NV better is that it is a lot more in line with what Fallout 1 and 2 were like. For lack of a better word, NV 'feels' more like the natural progression from 1 and 2. Also, as noted in my original comment, in my opinion NV is more free or neutral in what it let's you decide. More than "choose to side with good guys or bad guys" it let's you try to live in morally grey areas more than F3 did. At least in my memory. Then there's also mechanics. F3 suffered a bit from being the first Fallout game in a 1st/3rd person perspective. They had to figure things out, where as NV had that base already and could build on it. Lastly in my opinion NV had a better implementation of skills. I could go on and on ( i love the franchise!) but that'll do i think. :) Last point. I'm in no way saying that F3 is/was a bad game. It was just flawed in some ways that for me detract from it being an all-time classic like NV and F2 is for me.
Actually, just coming back to it for a moment. I think the parallel between F1 and F2 to F3 and NV is absolutely there for me. F1 layed a great foundation, but it being something new it was rough and 'flawed diamond' if you will. Then F2 came along and tightened it up, added some needed things, removed useless clutter, etc. The same can be said about F3 and NV. Again, just my thoughts and observations. All are worth playing though. Even Fallout Tactics. ;)
ive never seen such a detailed , interresting lore explaination , not only this video but ever video you make is so filled with awesome moments , u know what to say just to make the subject even more enjoyable to watch due to your awesome commentary , please never stop making these awesome video's!

Oxhorn I would really love it to have been coded in that if you decide not to get the gun before you power up the laser for it, then upon arriving at the area where the kid is, everything is on fire/exploded and any person there before was a pile of ash. Then you could loot the gun off a pile titled “smaller ash pile.” The Fallout games don’t have child-killing anymore but they never shy away for _implying_ that some children died
aMoonFrend Well, if you kill BoS in F4 you HAVE to end up killing a few children, given that Maxson brought Squires on Prydwen, so even bethesda in not shy in implying
Euclid's c-finder can guide the energy given by the Helios station as microwave radiation released from Archimedes 2. They mention coverting it into a "usable form" (assumable a space lazer) Are there any places that could utilize such an energy output in the Mojave? Because it made me think this was a mobile energy delivery system. I rembered doing this quest for the space lazer as a kid cuz that was cool but never really understood completely what was going on. But was there a deeper reason they put this into the game? Can it be used to power something undiscovered? Or discovered but never fully understood or tested upon with the Archimedes 2. What if Archimedes and Euclids c-finder is more than just a weapon?
May be possible to build receiving stations that would capture the energy of the laser and convert it to a useable form. If storing the energy was possible maybe multiple remote outposts that can't be connected to the grid could be supplied on a schedule?
Just finished watching the previous video on this playlist, I love the way Oxhorn addresses these topics. Once I get through this whole playlist for Fallout New Vegas, I'll see if there's anything he missed. Just because I love the way he does his videos and would like to see one on everything Fallout. Great job Oxhorn, love your work!
I always thought I had discovered and done pretty much everything in FNV, then I watched one Oxhorn video and realised just how much I completely missed...
It's worth noting that despite what the NCR says, Mr Fantastic actually knows exactly what to do, tells you as much, and can't do it without the NCR's help, which they refuse to provide despite "old pre-war security system" being a relatively common threat when retaking pre-war structures. All things considered Fantastic is on the right track, and just rubs everyone the wrong way with his verbal runnage.
Hey Mr. Oxhorn, i just want to say, thanks for the daily videos you've uploaded. i've been so depressed lately but since i discover your lore, mods, scoth and smoke rings stream (although i always overslept and missed the stream). My first video i've watched is the liberty prime lore, and its always been my favorite. Thank you oxhorn, i hope i can meet you in person one day, my sir. Au Revoir!!
so, just looked it up for the real nerns amoung us; the guns name is a reference to Euclidean geometry and 'c=distance'. basically, e.g. is the idea of using a central point around a sphere,(a satellite (Archimedes II) orbiting earth.) basically central terrestrial point shoots a beam to a refracting poing in space, that is then beamed to the laser designated point. it's supposed to be able to hit half the globe. even fixed, the range finder itself is still in test phase, hence the line of sight limitations. 2 more satellites at legrange points, and you could rain sunfire on the entire globe, from anywhere. also a popular sci-fi way to transfer power. collect the power at a designated point, shoot it to a satalite that distributes to power relays on the ground. I want kinetic rods. I want to drop telephone poles from orbit, that hits like a precision nuke
Hey Ox. Awesome videos. Around 8:00 when you are commenting on the goofiness of the notices from Poseidon Energy too their employees keep quiet it reminded me of many of the old WW2 OPSEC videos I've seen from the military. If you want a great example there is a cartoon from Private Snafu called Spies which illustrates the way the military was thinking at the time.
38:11 while all of these criticisms are true, this weapon is essentially an instant win for any outdoor boss, Legate Lanius at the Battle of Hoover Dam for example.
OMG when he explained the Euclid C-Finder, it made the gun 1 million times cooler. Unique names usually always usher a gun as something to hang onto, but this is just amazing
Gotta say I was a little late getting on the Fallout bandwagon, only bought NV last year and just couldn't stop playing it. I was enjoying taking my sweet ass time exploring the game and it was blowing my mind how huge and detailed it is, how complex the characters are and how their stories intertwine with each other. I never completed the story so there's a lot I have yet to discover but I could watch these videos for days. It has to be hands down one of the best games of all time. The music is poignant, the story is immersive, the settings and textures are all so damn good. Bethesda games always appeal to me because of the element of choice, your actions impact the outcome of the game and you develop relationships with the NPCs that can affect your success. Bethesda don't spoon-feed you one task after another, either. Can't stand it when games set you a task and then pretty much tutorial you with it the entire time, there was a lot of that in games like GTA V- go here, do this, do that. The total lack of pressure to pursue the storyline and to explore it at your own pace is what I like most. I've got so many open quests just from exploring, talking to characters and absorbing the story of the wasteland.
Lord Ahab out of 3/new Vegas/4 the mojave chapter is my favorite. It actually feels like a family and even though I don't love their goals everyone has personality and is unique. They even have a few teenagers being teenagers. I don't recall finding those anywhere else in the game.
Great game, remember doing this mission. Hey since you decided to borrow this gun from that kid i am wondering if there is an option to return the gun to the kid? Wonder what he would do with it thinking it is a toy.
I had activated the ARCHIMEDES II, simply because I derp around in the game for hours on end, but the one time I activated it then completed the Battle for the Hoover Dam (because that's where the game ends, sadly, no ability to play on further beyond that), I used the ARCHIMEDES II to wipe out Legate Lanius in style. Defeating the final boss has never looked so beautiful.
Oxhorn... I used to watch you every now and then checking in on videos time to time! well the past month your content has kept me content and I am enjoying it immensely! please do keep up this level of quality of content! also have a lovely day.
My favorite line from the troopers at this place is "we should be out on the front lines! not out here in Bumble-fuck!" I nearly died laughing when I heard that.
This video is amazing. The voice acting is 10/10 from you. It’s almost like I’m watching a movie instead of a “let’s-play” you really did an awesome job. I’m about 20hrs into my NV journey. I’m literally watching this as I’m playing lol it helps pick up on things I might have missed. I found myself pausing just to watch you a play lol and I don’t even like watching people play video games! Anyhow, I subbed 👍🏽🔔
I love these games but I’m extremely green when it comes to the series. I’ve never played the first two. I began with Fallout 3, but not until years after it’s release. I work a lot and am always busy even when I’m away from my job, so as much as I wish I could explore every nook and crevice of every room and each square mile of the map, I just flat out don’t have the time. Your videos are an invaluable resource to me. I use them to know what to expect in the next part of my play through, or, as in most cases, to see if I missed anything in the parts I’ve already completed. This channel is amazing! Thank you sir! This is two years late, but you were doing God’s work when you did these lore series.
Great video, you missed the option with Ignacio where you say you're with the Brotherhood of Steel and he says something along the lines of "For once, I think our goals may align"
If you choose to direct power to someplace, Thomas Hildern will react to it. He'll refer you as a crusader if you direct power to Freeside and Westside, and is OK if you direct power to the Strip & McCarran, or to the whole area. He'll be disappointed if ARCHIMEDES II received the power directories.
I picked everyone bc I got confused and thought it was for the entire Mojave, if I new it was just for Vegas I’d send it to the slums, NCR’s already got plenty, not to mention probably the vast majority of their government budget back home, if they’re anything like the military they’re based off of, and their power won’t matter once I kick them out anyways. Also, you didn’t mention that Arcade has a special line during this quest where he requests we send the power specifically to the slums, not sure about the other companions though.

Can you still use the gun after arming the beam
Joe Doe Mr. House says that while talking about his plans to repel the NCR Army from the Mojave.
You know, it’s kinda ironic that he has Veronica with him, considering she’s Brotherhood

I always pick that option since the full region said it was likely to cause brownouts, I didn’t want to cause the power to be mostly useless by having it cutting off all the time, and Freeside is the second best option.
ethical i could do any of the three,
Fremont and Westside, NCR DOES have the Dam so giving power to those two poor settlements would be the most efficient use of it for improving the Mojave on the whole.
McCarran and Las Vegas Strip, NCR are the ones protecting, maintaining, and funding the plant as such they do have ownership of the power, everything else is leeching off of them
Full region, the humanitarian option, everyone gets a little bit of the power and all suffers the frequent brownouts as a result. the morally good option but not really a "good" option.
Gerald agreed. Westside is the best choice in my opinion.
Jacob Harvell We legion will have our *RETRIBUTION*!
The Legion intends to use every resource they can muster to take the Dam. A task at which they only narrowly failed in the past. If you intend to defeat the Legion, I'd say that it'd be foolish NOT to muster every possible resource that you can.
Fantastic was a hilarious character. I was kinda hoping he would show up again in Fallout 4, but I guess he's an Obsidian character.
Why would he show up on the opposite side of the continent when the only way for him to get there would have been to walk, and through Legion territory at that?

I really hope you continue to do this new vegas lore series. NV has so many interesting people/locations/stories. Idk, I may be a little bias because this was the first fallout game I ever owned, but I think it's the most interesting.
I adore how the quest dialogue literally calls the guy "the idiot in sunglasses" xD
Arcade Gannon requests that the Courier sends the power to Freeside and Westside and if you do it earns a point for his companion quest
If you pass a 7 intelligence check you talk him into sending the power everywhere and get the point
courier: wanders around someones elses camp for a few hours tinkering reposition panels for self gain
ncr: u get that array sorted
courier: ye
This quest is one of the examples that for me solidify why NV was so much better than F3. The myriad of options and slight variations compared to most F3 quest that basically have a 'black/white' or 'good/evil' divide. Love the video!
SecondSince I'm new to fallout and actually love it so to you which is better NV or Fallout 3 ?
James Legrand Both are good in their rights. New Vegas feels more fleshed out, has great mods, good DLC and runs better than Fallout 3. Fallout 3 is good in it's own rights, the story isn't the best, but some if the characters are good, the DLC is also pretty good, some of the mechanics in the game were improved upon in NV, and it is a little difficult to get running at times (even without mods). Honestly play both, they're both good, but NV is just a teeny bit better (vanilla) and only gets better with mods. Sorry for dragging on with my comment, I rewrote it twice.
Dashing hey thanks for sharing your opinion.
Even Fallout Tactics. ;)

Does he use it?
No, you get no benefit until you take the C-Finder from Max.
Veronica will comment that it's a good job the safety was on if you power Archimedes before getting the C-finder from Max.
OH MY GOD.
Imagine you are walking through freeside one day, just to see a massive death ray level half the neighborhood.
The robots in the tower aren't always sentry bots, at lower levels, they are Robobrains and Mr. Gutsys

"I'm standing right in it... and I'm not dead yet."
so, just looked it up for the real nerns amoung us; the guns name is a reference to Euclidean geometry and 'c=distance'. basically, e.g. is the idea of using a central point around a sphere,(a satellite (Archimedes II) orbiting earth.) basically central terrestrial point shoots a beam to a refracting poing in space, that is then beamed to the laser designated point. it's supposed to be able to hit half the globe. even fixed, the range finder itself is still in test phase, hence the line of sight limitations.

I just started playing Fall Out because of you, Oxhorn. Your enthusiasm is contagious. Thanks!

Just don't bring Arcade along if you send the power to Archimedes. He won't be thrilled.
I’m literally watching this as I’m playing lol it helps pick up on things I might have missed. I found myself pausing just to watch you a play lol and I don’t even like watching people play video games! Anyhow, I subbed 👍🏽🔔
I'm currently playing my Evil play through so you can guess which one I chose
That gun reminds me of the gun from halo the one that charges and shoots a beam down, my memory is kinda fuzzy haven't played halo in years.
Isaac Zavala yea it was from reach but I forgot the name
Great video, you missed the option with Ignacio where you say you're with the Brotherhood of Steel and he says something along the lines of "For once, I think our goals may align"
Dammit! I just did this quest last night. (I transferred it to the satellite and turned on the defenses.)
I remember I couldn't stop laughing when I read that terminal. "Your wife might cheat on you," had me on the floor lol
Also, you didn’t mention that Arcade has a special line during this quest where he requests we send the power specifically to the slums, not sure about the other companions though.
do a video on All children in the whole wasteland.
If you are part of the Brotherhood of Steel and tell Ignacio, he says how surprised he is at his relief and tells you everything too.
This is another fun mission to do in New Vegas
I realize this is a long shot that you will see this but, what are the chances that Max is Maximus?
Oxhorn: "So we need to find an idiot in sunglasses...sounds easy enough." (Main character is wearing sunglasses)
Lol
