Scan played that game so well it was inspiring to watch. I feel so helpless sometimes against end-game defiler Zerg it's helpful to see someone seem to have all the answers like this.
You know, now that I think about it, I wonder if in Starcraft lore prisoners are fed cooked Zerg in the outer colonies? Kind of like how lobster was fed to prisoners and slaves in the U.S. during colonial times because lobsters were so abundant back then.
i think the opening actually favors scan pretty heavily. not only did he kill 3 drones but yoon lost so much mining time from pulling so many drones for so long
I've started to really enjoy the scrappiness of the Zerg, and how they can hold with like half the supply. So many matches where you see the T supply at 170 and the Z supply at 95 but somehow they're still holding.
"somehow" lol... defiler dark swarm and hydra+lurker allows you to hold positions nearly indefinitely as long as you have something for the defiler to consume... Or as Arty's chat would say, ORANGE CLOUD! 🍊 ☁️
In those first few minutes, how big a factor is the lost mining time of all those drones that get pulled? Seems like it's a lot of minerals that don't get mined there, or does it matter due to larva number?
Watching Artosis for a month now, I've come to the same conclusion as him: 5-5 upgrades on marines is worthless against zerg down 100 supply as long as zerg has 2 defilers with consume and dark swarm. You'd have to have omnipresent micro from that point on.
For years it was said that Restoration wasn't viable because of medic energy and APM. Why is it that only now is it starting to be used and considered going forward? What's changed?
I've heard it is viable for Battlecruisers, but good question. This matchup is APM heavy, so my guess is that in terms of priority for players it is just lower compared to other actions
As a low level terran player all of artosis casting about terran is so damn helpfull :). I think science vessel energy is a must get upgrade against zerg. Starting with 63 manna instead of 50 feels so damn safe
jesus christ look how much effort scan had to put to win this match and zerg keep being in game even after losing almost all encounters... plague and dark swarm op
Artosis, i dont want to watch all of the games of this tournament, but interested in Scan, can u do something about naming the videos? also is there any idea to share replays?
I know this probably isn't even a factor at the higher levels of pro play(or any level really) but i feel like playing red makes the zerg plague better just cause its harder to notice at a glance.
Hydra/Lurker/Defiler comp shown, instant round of almost completely firebats. Hydras do not hit firebats under dark swarm! it is a simple but very good plan!
20:45 oh man, i feel like you gotta repair some of these.. at least like, take 3 of them with no energy back for reps, we can't be losing 6 vessels to hydras and stay ahead... 21:27 looks like he's actually sending everything back after getting plagued again, dying to 1 scourge instead of two is rough (against, ling/lurker/defiler), dying to 1 hydra shot is not acceptable. 21:32 OOF the medics. i've always felt as a viewer, a cheat for watching starcraft, terran losing medics tanks, and vessels is really bad, zerg losing lurkers and defilers is really bad, toss losing goons, templars is really bad. those are units that are supposed to be repeatedly gaining value as the game goes on. The marines dying happens, all the time, it's fine. losing this many medics is painful, although it may be a bit too late for zerg... GG! thanks RT
Why doesn't zerg use burrow to protect their expensive defilers? Burrow a defiler with a small group of lings. Much harder to target for irradiate, imo. Burrow epic spell. Ask Kevin Bacon how powerful it is.
It probably is a lack of APM thing. For example, he also could have got a few more scourge at certain points in the game, but when you are focused on staying alive, it can be tough to do theae smaller micro movements. Keep in mind that Protoss and Terran have a "production" macro advantage in terms of APM since they can queue up units in the production buildings. Zerg has to use larvae, so that could also help explain too
Ok so I've been gone for a couple months, but holy TOLEDO!!!!! There's GRAPHICS NOW?! Player portraits, some other info at the middle, cool animated triangle graphic thingies in the background. DUDE! This looks COOL! Just wanted to give feedback on it ASAP. Also, one more piece of feedback. Can we please have your face on SOME thumbnails? It doesn't have to be all the time, but seeing you go ":O" sometimes is funny.
Note how Terran plays near perfect and continuous pressure past the 9min mark. Yet the game gets closed out by 20+ min, where are the quick moderately timely wins for T that Z can always get?!?
Can someone explain why players continue to run their marines away even when zerglings are already on top of them and doing damage? Seems like a better idea to stop, fight, and get what kills you can, no?
I'm very high on plague over dark swarm. Especially when I see the changed opinion on firebats that more than 2 is okay, more is good vs swarm. But plague it just a continual nightmare on targeted units, even BCs can only take 2 before they need repair/or restoration micro. Then I think plague as a spell for sieging over dark swarm, does really well vs bunker/turret chokes. Then I think u know, Nuke has same AoE as plague. As a tempo based play, nuke is a good alternative to idling the bioball while irradiate grinding lurkers, and still needing to bust the sunks. Why should a lurker egg at ramp cause such problems only to then still race up ramp taking massive damage, when 15s to call down nuke would clear a beach head for your bio to get up ramp en masse. Even if lurkers repositioned out of nuke range , it can't be worse than racing your units through the 1 lane meatgrinder (otherwise that would be the initial position). Canceling nuke and catching lurkers while repositioning is also possibility. it takes about 2.5 min to set up nuke as suggested above, can be done after Titan reactor, but I think it's worth delaying reactor 30 sec to get down covert ops, idea being a tempo play alternative to irradiate grinding, finish game before BC/tank transition needed. can always pop up and start physics lab if didn't workout, but I think 200/200 is worth bypassing the 1 lane meatgrinder, or blasting open a rallypoint nat choke clearing out all the invulnerable units protected by a dark swarm. If I were good enough to manage units all over the map, I probably wouldn't bother, but I think this could be worthwhile addition vs transitioning to unupgraded units, that will require higher resource and supply commitment to transition (Tanks and BCs), when problem could be resolved by safely breaching chokes with most of bioball. Of course drop play is also an alternative transition, but that's also a type of investment halting vessel production and drop force treated as disposable, nuke is cheaper throwaway that lets you use most of your army instead of a small detachment, also costs less effort with control group maintenance.
17:00 "Yoons comp is very close to unkillable" ... broken af, scan has twice the supply Yoon has and still has to play the rest of the game walking on eggshells because one mistake means 5 dark swarm lurkers will kill his whole army ... how is this fair ?? like what is he supposed to do to deliver the killing blow at this point ??
My favourite videos of BW are the ones with units you don't usually see. Ghosts with nukes, firebats, queens, whatever. I just kinda stop watching when I see a mutaball, dark swarm, dragoons, afk with siege tanks..
Really bad Muta control compared to ASL Zergs, and really bad Caster flip-flopping: One minute he says twice they are about even after the initial exchange, then the next he says twice Yoon is slightly ahead. Bruh, how are you "slightly" ahead when Zerg is 90% of Terran's worker count, and there aren't any immediate threats? If this was Hero as Zerg against anyone (except maybe Rush) continuing the play from that position he would steamroll every game.
12:50 the discovery of hold position lurkers changed terran vs protoss completely 😂
Lol best moment of the video!
Tosis PTSD
Terran was so concerned about hold position lurkers that they were even paranoid of it when fighting protoss.

Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Artosis the wise?
lol i think its an association habit .. he hates hold position lurkers and than it gets to be associated to what he hates the most protoss

Scan puts in the work and has a great mental. You would do well to aspire to be like him.
In my opinion Artosis is the best esports commentator ever. The knowledge he has is incredible. He is able to explain absolutely everything.
Seconded. The actual GOAT sports commentator, e or otherwise.

can scan's scan scan cans?
It would scan me when I see your mum.

What a sick game from Scan. I'm learning so much just watching his games it's wonderful.
he is a good player to learn from. very methodical and reasoned.

Mining time, drone kills and larva wasted for lings, Scan was definitely ahead after.

For years it was said that Restoration wasn't viable because of medic energy and APM. Why is it that only now is it starting to be used and considered going forward? What's changed?
great question
What's changed is the volume and potency of metal disorders and drugs, to be able to handle all those necessary inputs.
I've heard it is viable for Battlecruisers, but good question. This matchup is APM heavy, so my guess is that in terms of priority for players it is just lower compared to other actions
