Very true! There are some really interesting and useful painting tips out there that a lot of people wouldn’t even think of! Funny they thought it was a waste because the results speak for themselves
You could probably do this with dry brushing if you don't have an air brush. Just do a stippling approach rather than a swiping method of dry brushing. Might not work but its possible

I’m sure you can I think it’s just his personal preference and I think it might be a bit easier to get the right consistency with it
