So nice to see someone doing solid achievable painting amongst the sea of 'bash this out as quickly as i can' and 'one day i WILL win golden demon'. And there aren't nearly enough eldar tutorials out there either.
Thanks! Really appreciate the kind words. Trying to have a variety on the channel but hopefully I'll get some more Eldar guides soon!
@@MattsHobbyHour eldar guides will always be appreciated by this elf fangirl
That is an interesting leather recipe. Those highlights really pop. Love the overall color scheme as well. Cheers Mr. Matt!
Thanks Shane! It's similar to some of the box art circa the early 2000's. I tried my best to copy it back then, and it's been a go-to recipe ever since.
This is the best Aeldari painting tutorial I've seen! So in depth, with each step really well explained. I love how you show the wet palette as well so we can see the paint consistency. Small details like that make a big difference! I can't wait to go back to my Corsair Kill Team and give them this treatment to get them to the next level!
Thank you! I'm really glad to hear it was helpful to you. Good luck with your kill team! Feel free to send photos of your results or tag me on Instagram, I'd love to see how you do.
I'm a huge fan of 2 thin coats trooper white. It has been a godsend for painting white
Good to know, thanks!
I really like the patterns on the cloaks; taking advantage of contrast paint's semi-transparency in that way had never occurred to me!
They can do a lot of really cool things! Thanks for watching
I’ve just (mostly) followed your instructions and have one completed ranger (9 to go!). Thank you very much. I’m pretty bad at painting and mine doesn’t look like yours but it’s a lot better than I would have managed without your helpful video.
that's awesome! I'm glad it's been helpful. Keep on painting and you'll get better with each model. When you're all done, compare the first model with the 10th and I bet you'll see a lot of improvement. Good luck!
They look bloody amazing Matt
thank you!
excellent tutorials. I really like how you also show how you paint the base. With your music and voice you are like the Bob Ross of minipainting :)
Thanks for the kind words! Glad you enjoy everything!
I like your chill way of presenting stuff.
My favorite white is ProAcryl titanium White. I haven't tried vallejo game color yet. Ill have to give it a try.
Thanks for watching!
I love your videos great rythm and explanations, really helpful! The results are also great using techniques that are not too hard to do. What brush(es) do you use?
Thanks! I'm glad you like them. I use Rosemary and Co series 99 sable brushes (I'm not sponsored by them). I consider them the best quality for value brushes out there.
I like P3 morrow white a lot as well. The two thin coats whites are pretty good too.
Good to know about the two thin coats white. I will have to try it. Thanks for watching!
Very cool! Just painted up some Alaitoc Rangers and now im wishing I used some of your tips!
Maybe it's a sign that your army needs another squad of them!
@@MattsHobbyHour For sure! have one unbuilt unit planning to paint up in a bit, got to get some shroud runners done first!
Instar Paints Pure White is my go to white
Thanks for the tip! I've never heard of that brand before. I will have to look out for it
Matt great stuff as always. The leather is especially amazing! I was wondering how you came up with wyldwood + doombull? I feel like garaghak's sewer would be a close fit too. Also you've convinced me on skelly horde for creme. I'll be trying it next time out on my reiklanders.
Garaghak's sewer is close, but it's a little on the yellow side. Since I had to match an existing color scheme, I needed a dark brown with some red in it. Doombull brown brings in the red tone and adds some opacity. Wyldwood could probably be swapped out for another similar dark brown, but I felt that it needed to be a little more red to better relate to the highlight layers that follow (as well as to better match the old Citadel Scorched Brown color that I originally used).
Thanks for watching and for a great question!
Love your videos and explanations, Matt. My favorite white by far is Pro Acryl Titanium White.
Thanks for watching! I'll have to give PA titanium white a shot. I've heard good things!
15:30 Just realised the Eldar have excellent trigger discipline.
My theory is he doesn't want to accidentally shoot a bunny while sneaking around in the woods and blow his cover
Nice video Matt.
Thanks HTM!
Your leather looks dope as khuz
Thanks!
I love your videos thank you. I’m having a really hard time with edge highlighting on some hellblaster guns using red. Can you do a video about edge highlighting guns?
Thanks for watching! I have a Space Wolf video coming out on Wednesday, and that will have some highlight footage on the gun. You also might find this video helpful, it's mostly about armor but the techniques are the same ua-cam.com/video/PtR3IxZUrS0/v-deo.html good luck!
Only white paint I use is Pro Acryl Bright Titanium White
I like Chaos White paint
I can think of a couple bad white paints out there that could be relabeled as Chaos White. It would be very fitting
great tutorial they look awesome. I'm wondering what spraying them grey and then white all over does? I've seen zenithal (i think its called) before but not rreally anything like this. Is it essentially the same thing? Thanks
thanks! It's effectively a zenithal spray, just a few notches lighter that the black>white method that is popular right now. I really dislike starting with black; it's way too dark. Starting with grey instead means you don't have to spray as heavy with the white paint, and the final prime is much more smooth.
When I paint something my order of operations is to base coat everything first then do shadows and highlights as needed. You do one object / part at a time to final highlight then move to the next bit. Simply put: why? what is the reasoning there?
that's a great question! There are benefits to both methods and I usually find myself doing one or the other (or a combination of the two). For the most part, it doesn't really matter very much. Paint in a way that you enjoy and makes sense to you. Sometimes I want to see the finished result of an area before I decide on how to do something else. Or I may be enjoying part of the process enough that I just keep on highlighting it.
Most of the time the reason is practical: The main thing I consider is: "when I paint this section, is there a high probability I might mess up an area next to it?", if the answer is yes, then I'll likely try to finish that area to completion before moving on to the next. Drybrushing would be a great example of this, and why you would want to drybrush an area before basecoating the things next to it.
Ok, that makes sense, was just curious if I was missing something obvious as I have seen others do the same thing. Curious to see your next video.
