Well done to Techne for this great review, but also well done to Sound Blaster for this excellent product too. :) Cheers from Australia

@@bryanortiz1143 I plan on getting it soon, personally I've heard sound blaster is a good audio brand so it's really just up to what headphones you have or want to get.
Great review Techne! If you can pin this post there one VERY important note about using the G6's optical connection with any console device at has optical out. You MUST set the primary audio output to optical and more importantly set the audio format to Bitstream Dolby (If prompted, select 5.1 ch). It is a NIGHT and DAY difference with the surround sound immersion (directional queue and distance) for PS4 and PS3 (but you also have to enable SBX surround (00:04:10) using the software on PC and set it anywhere that works best for you (Personally I set surround to 65). The G6 can also be powered by the PS3/4's usb port which also enables mic input. No need for usb wall plug. The games I noticed the biggest surround effect were most FPS games I played (Apex Legends, CoDs, Battlefields) heck even Batman Arkham series. You will seriously have an audible advantage in competitive shooters with this amp. Scout mode may make footsteps abit louder but SBX surround lets you hear where it's coming from. It's crazy good, the sound design that developers put into some games and this G6 amp just takes surround to another level of immersion when connected/setup properly.
You guys comments made my day I was just wondering if I bought the DT990 pro with sound blaster g6 it might be a terrible idea and maybe it will not work and the 7.1 surround might not work either I'm planning to hook this up with my ps4 pro and my pc and now I'm gonna order them and I will order modmic 5 too for the microphone it will be an amazing setup can't wait 👍
I want original crisp sound and have the same headphones but the sound is not loud at all. I have trouble hearing footsteps in game. The wheel knob turns windows volume up (at 100 already) and doesn't help for volume. Help??
I'm pretty skeptical of taking audio advice from gaming channels or audio products with gaming in the marketing. I was getting desperate so I took a chance on this, this is the best amp I've used on pc, regardless of gaming features or mic inputs. Dont think of this as a gaming amp, this is an audiophile amp that happens to have a mic input. Get this, turn off all the effects, set the bit rate and sampling frequency to max and enjoy. I'm amazed that this produces such clean and full sound with enough power to destroy both your ears and your headphones without wall power. As a bonus the headphone port is a 4 pole port so you dont need a splitter if you have a combination jack on your headset. I tested this on my fidelio x2hr and I wouldnt go above 30% volume on high gain, on my hd 58x jubilee I wouldnt go above 45%. In my opinion this paired with a fidelio x2hr and a vmoda boom pro is bar none the ultimate audio set up for music, movies and gaming. I would recommend this over any other usb powered amp even if you just want something for music, trust me I've pretty much tried them all.
This does have one of the better virtual surround sound implementations you can get, though, which is very important for gaming, and also very nice for movies. Scout mode is also a "gaming" feature although it's very specific for making certain sounds easier to hear, and will ruin your sound quality. Mic input and game/voice mix is another. I bought the GC7 but ended up not liking SXFI so will probably return the GC7 and get a G6 instead for a small money save, smaller size and (probably negligible) sound quality boost.
@@galzohar I bought both the gc7 and the g6. I love the features of the gc7 but the g6 is about half the size and more importantly double the sound quality. I returned the gc7, it wasnt even close between the 2 as far as sound quality is concerned. I would highly recommend you return the gc7 and get the g6. The gc7 didnt sound that much better than my laptops built in audio where the g6 was a significant improvement assuming you have good enough headphones to take advantage of the upgrade.
@@vartkez187 I just submit a return request for my GC7. Hopefully they don't cause problems refunding, to get free shipping rather than 20 euros I had to say it didn't work right (and it didn't, SXFI was horrible). Then I'll buy a G6 which is on sale now. However, without SXFI, GC7 does sound better than my on-board sound, and while it's 7-year-old, it's not a cheap one and is probably better than your laptop's. I have the HD560S, I guess we'll see once I get my hands on the G6. I won't be losing anything as I don't use any of the GC7 features except those that are also on the G6.
@@galzohar with the 560s you should notice a significant difference between the gc7 and the g6. I did A/B testing between the gc7 and my dell G5SE on board audio and honestly there was maybe a 5% increase in sound quality with the gc7, mostly it was a difference in output power. I tested it using my hd58x, hd600 and fidelio x2hr. The g6 on the other hand was a significant difference in clarity, detail and bass. After the gc7 I bought a fiio k3, fiio q3, fiio btr5, hidizs s9 pro and the g6. All of those amps were significantly better than the gc7, especially the btr5 and g6. Enjoy your new g6 when you get it, I know I do. I just hope they make a proper successor for the g6 cause I never want to get rid of mine.
@@vartkez187 Should arrive in a week or 2. The GC7 was already picked up. Unfortunately I won't be able to A/B them. But as I wasn't using any of the SXFI/GC7-specific features at the worst case I will still be saving 10$ and some desk space.
The SBX G6 sounds better when it's on it's own power, with optical in. My Mac and PS4 both work fine on usb, but sound is better when the card is not being taken over by an external OS. Another thing to mention, if Dolby Digital is thrown at it you MUST use the SBX button ON to get the surround working, when you're sending stereo through anything turn OFF the SBX for better sound.
I saw an optical in and out. Could i use this dac with the Astro A20's for better spatial awareness? I have the module for the a20's but i dont have the MixAmp
Nope, I guess this is future proof if we can put a name on that, but you'd need the source audio to be that high to 'use' the range, and even then it would be nearly impossible to notice a difference. I have the SBX G6, and the highest thing I've run through it is FLAC music at 24bit-96kHz, I do notice the difference between that and 16bit-48kHz music, but it's very minimal, and I have the computer set to send all the sound at max 24bit-192kHz (because it's the highest it can send). PS. No matter if the computer is set to send 24/96 or 24/192, if the max is 24/96 of the music there is no difference.

Loving the reviews. Have you tried USB->PC But use optical with xbox? Would that work to get both sources for say streamers? Also is that a round optical port? Thx
Just an FYI for Xbox users that this can be used with party chat, but not game chat. Usually people who use DAC's/mixamps have a desk set up. What you have to do is hook up the G6 via optical to your xbox, G6 to your PC via USB and use the Xbox PC app to use part chat. Works with the Series S & X also but you'll needs an HDMI audio extractor to get optical, or use your TV optical output.
Or just plug the 3.5mm jack of your controller into the "Line In" port, and voila, game chat or part chat. But you will need a splitter to split the audio and mic ports with the controller 3.5mm jack, then use the mic of your choice with the remaining mic port.
So I could for example invite people to party on Xbox one and talk there. but wouldn't be able to in like overwatch like chat in game to speak to teammates I normally don't use mic on there this ping but would like to have option if I ever wanted to use it.
Also I heard through optical you can't adjust volume knob on dac can you still somehow turn volume up and down like you would this going through controller

However, just in case, I connected the G6 to an audio amplifier at home and listened to it. And then I realized. Now I no longer have to worry about buying a better headset. I've never heard such great sound. So I'm thinking of ending the war with headsets by buying a new good desktop amp
Hi, great review!. Would you recommend using this with some Steelseries arctis pro? Thanks
no the arctis pro's are good as is
Loving the reviews. Have you tried USB->PC But use optical with xbox? Would that work to get both sources for say streamers?
Also is that a round optical port? Thx
I wouldn't thing so, because the usb powers the unit for xbox use. yes it is round, but the optical cable is very long.
@@TheTechne To be clear tho you lose mic function on xbox. Is that correct?
@@Boostedbeard hmmm, not sure about that one. as xbox doesn't say if a mic is connected or not like ps4.
I have the creative omnisound 5.1 .. is this much better? Is it worth upgrading?
@@wrecklessKane doesn't work. I've tried it, I had Creative support look into this and it doesn't work that way.
So I could for example invite people to party on Xbox one and talk there.
but wouldn't be able to in like overwatch like chat in game to speak to teammates I normally don't use mic on there this ping but would like to have option if I ever wanted to use it.
Also I heard through optical you can't adjust volume knob on dac can you still somehow turn volume up and down like you would this going through controller
will headsets w/mic work on xbox one when we connect to optical? you said mic would not work on ps4 if connected to optical and usb to wall power block...just curious how that affects xbox? my son has headset w/mic attached. will it work?
it can't work as optical in is only for output doesn't have input channel
fyi, the optical out will NOT pass through 5.1 dts and dolby digital via usb from pc (connected to optical on home theater receiver).
Just bought this amp/dac to pair with the DT 990 Pro. Can't wait to see how immersive it'll feel..
i’m about to get that exact setup! how was your experience?
Hi! Have you tried X g6 with the Arctis pro headset? I play on PS4 and not sure if I should get this instead of the steelseries gamedac?
Of course, the g6 is way better
The pros don’t have 3.5mm jack so won’t work with g6
Do you recommend these with the corsair virtuoso XT? I brought these headphones due to your review
Is this better than the Astro amp?
yes
@@TheTechne what makes it better? I’m really contemplating buying this since I just upgraded my headphones to the beyerdynamics 990 pros. I’m on ps4 but I really want to build a pc (don’t know what to buy or how to start)
hello Techne from korea, any thought about this stuff vs ifi zen dac v2? for gaming of course, but for other uses like music, movie, etc , in general... having headache choosing one.... I would love to buy both and try myself, but of course have budget problem, so....
Does this amplifier work with a mic on the Xbox?
What mic did you use for this test - thanks
Hello I have a quick question for ya . What kind of head set do you recommend on the sound blaster. Please keep in mine. I’m not balking with money
How would this DAC work with Astro A40? thx
I wanna know to
@@biggtoggs12 At the end i used Sound BlasterX G6 with Astro A40 for a almost a year, works great, didnt notice any difference compared to Astro DAC... In meanwhile I changed my sound setup to DAC Schiit Hel paired withg DT 1990 PRO, and that is a completely new level...
Can you tell which mic you were using with the sound blaster when you were showing the mic effects in software?
A bit of an older video but been using arctis 5 headphones, so would you not recommend this for my headset? I also read in the comments you said the arctis pros dont need a dac.. so would you pair any steelseries headsets with this dac? Thanks!
On pc im using this with sony xm4. Noise cancelling bliss!
Just wondering if this is plug and play friendly for a ps4 slim to power hd58x or do I need a pc for the software?
Hi Techne! Could you please do a review on Creative BlasterX H6 gaming headphones!
This is a good question can you connect a 3.5mm cable to a controller? It’s doesn’t look like a regular optical
How the DT990 Pro's sound with these? I have the one that you recommended the Audiotechnica ATH-G1 but that only can be use on the low gain cause of their ohms the DT990 have 250 ohms and they are open back so i can use them on the high gain. Curious to see how much they sound cranked all the way up
they sound good, but I prefer closed back. 770's review coming soon on both ;)
@@TheTechne perfect. Looking for a good Open back to complement the closed back of the ath-g1. Do you think the 770 take the cake of the ath-g1?
@@ricardojose1301 the 770's are a bit more natural sounding. So it is personal preference with gaming. Natural or Immersive
How much were you paid for this sponsored video
heard there was sound cutting out issues , anyone else had issues or known if it got fixed ?
Thanks for the video! But I have a question? Can you Connect this item to a audio interface like Arturia AudioFuse?
So if we plug it like you said for Xbox will voice chat be supported?
Bump
Really curious about this as well... I know the mix amp pro isn't even close performance wise but I haven't found a dac/amp that is xbox compatible to allow voice comms along with game audio
G6 works on Every device cause unlike most Dac-Amps it supports UAC1 and UAC2 ie USB 1.1 Audio and USB 2.0 Audio you can actually hear the device switching between these two modes cause the its full hardware support the X light is Red for UAC1 and what ever light you set it in the PC app for UAC2 you cannot change the UAC1 light + this thing is so powerful it beats most $1000-2000 Amps no kidding i was so supprised of its power and you can ever boost it more not onpy with high gain but with EQ 12DB more and all that power can be put to the line-optical out port where you can hook anything
With xbox one, I have the dolby atmos feature enabled for headset. Will the DAC not recognize this?
@Fredo i did and no I didn't.
i currently own the Steelseries Arctis Pro + GameDAC, thinking of replacing it with G6 + DT990 ? Do you think it's good idea ? My purpose is purely FPS + casual gaming on PS4 PRO. Thanks.
I would just stick with the pro
Does this power 250 ohm ? And no extra wires just plug it into the DAC and your set ?
It powers up to 600ohms
Can’t wait to use mine after this deployment, thanks for the review, now I know I don’t just give away my money.
its really amazing! you're going to love it!
The Techne I also bought the 58X jubilee so will see how that combo works together
@@orlandoalicea5432 nice! I bet that is going to be a very nice combo. I'll have a video out hopefully today, with the headset I paired up with it, and oh man, it is so so nice from comfort to sound! A+++
The Techne I bet you do, thank you so much for all the info you’re the best.
@@orlandoalicea5432 thank you for watching! and you all are the best!!!
Would They help for my bose qc 25
I only play call of duty so i need to hear the footsteps. Should i go for the g6 or the ifi zen dac v2 and amp?
What I'd like to know is if it's worth it for me. Because I have an acer nitro i7 that uses a built-in Realtek ALC295 @ Intel Comet Lake PCH-LP - cAVS card.
Will Creative Sound BlasterX G6 be far superior to Realtek ALC295? What do you think? My interest is only movies and music, mp3 and flac.
Optical is really only useful for reducing line noise.
How is this compared to an earmen angel?
Is this better than buying the gamedac from SteelSeries and would it be able to be used with my SteelSeries arctis pro wireless? I just bought that after watching your review off those. Thank you in advance and for posting such awesome content!
What is SBX mode. Should I have this setting enabled if I am using these for gaming?
I don’t need a headphone amp. I’m looking to simply run out of tv via optica cable and into my powered monitors via xlr. What dac would I need?? Thanks!!
Will this also help the audio on my Quincy Jones Q701 reference headphones 🎧
Do I have to use optical to get this thing to work?
No
What is the purpose of the Line/Optical Out port? Is it for mic out audion?
so im looking for something to run my senheiser 560s and a mic for music/gaming/movies on my pc. should i get this for the 7.1 and scout mode. or should i just get a Behringer U-Phoria UMC202HD that i found used for 40$?
Can you use this to hear pc and ps5 audio simultaneously?
I want to use the G6 with my Xbox and Nvidia shield, so if I plug it directly into the TV will the sound be enhanced as well?
Does it?
Is it possible to have 2 inputs at once, like usb and optical outputing at the same time?
How the hell do you put an keyed optical cable in that round hole?
from mobile phone to line optical in 3.5mm 4-pole to line optical out 3.5mm 4-pole headset... or usb type-c?
sound blasterx g6 scout mode footstep working?
Great video bro, but please don’t be afraid to take care your nails with an specialist! It will make you more secure and girls actually like a man that take cares of their hands even if we do hard work. I use to be afraid of going to the beach because my toenails where horrible and a specialist took care of them and now they look incredible good
can i use logitech pro x 's 2in1 wire plug in (H.port&M.port)? any problem effect will be bad sound?
and one more question is at the same time Line/Optical Out can i plug in my razer leviathan 5.1??
Do this support game chat adjustments like the astro mixamp, ss dac
Are they good with IEM?
Can I use the via USB if I have the slim with out the optical?
yes. this device connects to all PS4 model just by USB, xbox one used the optical on this one
@@TheTechne yes you can. Just select the G6 as the audio device in the setting.
@@LostWon on xbox?
@@TheTechne I misunderstood. I assume the question was for PS4. On Xbox you to use optical.
@@LostWon oh okay, I was thinking, why the heck didn't mine work like that, lol!
I know this is a late comment but looking to buy this for my hyper x cloud alpha s’s. But I want to use it as a dac/amp for my hifiman sundra to my iPhone XR. Can I connect to my iPhone XR with the usb 3 cameras adapter. It turns the iPhone XR charge port into a regular usb. So I could plug that into the dac/amp from the iPhone. I want to know if This will work. I heard it does?
Can you pls do a review on their headset? The soundblaster H6
Thanks! 🙌🏽💯
Would this work on series x with a audio extractor? I'm trying to find a amp/dac that can allow me to voice chat online as well as make my gaming audio louder than just plugging in my headset to a controller.
thanks for the video, is it enough for dt 770 pro 250 ohms?
If you had to choose between this and the X3 which one would recommend when it comes to exclusive PC-usage?
it would depend on what headset/headphones I was using and what budget I was in. me personally I would probably go the X3 due to the lower price, simplicity of use, and has just enough for me.
Deserve a lot more subscribers
thank you so much!
Can you try this on PS5? Just received mine and it is updated to be compatible with ps5 usb port, but lets say that audio quality is not loud at all
Just bought this bad boy based on your review! My only question is it says dolby digital decoding is only available through the optical. What does that mean and is it necessary?
no I say don't use the surround sound any way, and I never do on any headset/amp. it just messes up the true natural sound.
Can you plug a lavaier mic into this
When i click to amazon link it takes me to a Creative Sound Blaster G3 not G6
Is it possible to use this to hear both PS4 and Mac audio through your headphones at the same time?
Since party chat for xbox one is not supported can you tell me what my options are for that?
