I love when your blanket or afghan gets long enough that it covers you and it's both warm and cozy and you're still completing it. It also is a puppy or kitty magnet

Ohh, the joy !! For over 10 years I have had app 130 squares lying in a drawer. They are made from differnt yarn thickness, and it would look horrible if stitched together. . Now I have made the "rows" your way, and begun to assemble them, and HURRAAY ! A beautyful blanket appears in front of me ! The fleible connetion makes the squares fit perfectly together, and a light grey colour makes it all come "alive". I am SO , SO happy !!!! Thankyou, thankyou , thankyou :D

First I want to thank you both Arne and Carlos for sharing all your knowledge and experience, all about what life bring to you and finally to all the viewers. I just finish some squares for a blanket and I was not satisfied with all the techniques I search on the Web. I remember you with a book I took at my local library and check if you had some site that I could refer to reach to you. How happy I am now when I found you there....I took note of this joining technique and keep it for any other project in my crochet booklet. For sure Arne is very fast but for experienced crocheters, we can follow him, it's possible. Carlos is supporting very well also for the ''crochet language''. You are a very sympathical couple and I just love (like many of us) and enjoy watching both of you doing one of your passions : crocheting and knitting. Just a fresh breath in sharing this piece of life. A big thank you!!

Your way of joining is less complicated than some I have seen in the US and UK. As for the langue, I find it very informative.
This is a great way to learn different terms in another language. Hearing the word/term makes it clearer and teaches another language. Thank you two are great, never complicated instructive.

That's a beautiful way to join granny squares! I am making tiny granny squares and making the last row in black on all of them so there's black in between the squares. This would be so much prettier and I wouldn't have to stitch the squares together, which is where I usually ruin my afghans because I don't do it with the proper tension or I don't do it the right way. I was never shown how to do it, so I'm sure that it's a combination of both. I've been crocheting since I was very young, in the 1960's, and of course there was no internet. My grandmother did beautiful work, but her English wasn't good enough for her to teach me. I'm so grateful to have you to help me learn the proper way to knit and crochet.

Hi Arne and Carlos, I hope you'll still be reading comments to this video and can answer my urgent question! I've been a fan of yours since years and own all your books and some of your patterns, although until this year I've been only a knitter, and didn't really dare to attempt something like one of those wonderful blankets of yours. Following your quarantine podcast earlier this year (which I'm so grateful for as it saved my sanity during those difficult weeks - thank you again so much for doing this!) I also came across your first video for this blanket. As the knitted hug-me-later squares were too complicated for my state of mind back then, and after following your explanations which made it look so easy, I thought why not give it a go. I orderd wool (I didn't have suitable scraps) and got out my dusty crochet hooks, and indeed it was very easy, and really fun. For the first two months I did one square per day, and just finished with nr. 80 yesterday. But when laying them out for a nice pattern (I made each one different than the other) I found that some are a bit smaller than others, perhaps a 5-7mm difference of the side length of a square. I suppose this happened because I had to get a more ergonometric hook in-between as I was starting to have problems, or perhaps I started to crochet much looser once the pandemic tension and worry eased up. Who knows. But now I don't know what to do: should I steam the squares first and hope that's enought to even them out? Should I perhaps add a line of "fastmaske" once around the smaller squares? (I'm happy each time you're using Norwegian terms as I'm German and I understand them much better than the English ones as I'm not familiar with those). Or will it even out eventually when having finished the blanket and steaming it as a unit?
I also though tabout uUsing all smaller squares in one row, but that would break the overall pattern idea I had (alternating dark and light outer rows of each square) and not look so good. Thank you so much already! Thank you also for all your lovely videos, I'm often sitting watching them when knitting or, recently, crocheting, and I've learned a LOT from them.

I love the variation on the granny square! I realized it looked somewhat ''warmer'', with the four Treble crochet instead of 3 doubles like is so common. Thank goodness for folks like you showing us there are different ways! Also, the sequence of joining, shown here, works with the 4 Trebles, (as there are single crochet placed in between certain stitches (posts) from the round before) it makes it pliable, and stretchy soft. I did have a good laugh when Carlos reached into his scrap yarn pulled out a ball of yarn with its label still on. I do not have any new yarn in my scrap bin. haha.

Hi Arne and Carlos. This tutorial is something I have been wanting to learn for a while. I have been knitting larger squares (12 inches by 12 inches) in recycled denim cotton yarn to make a blanket for my 16-year-old son, and I will soon have enough squares to assemble the blanket. A friend suggested I could join the squares with crochet rather than the usual mattress stitch. I like that you pointed out that crochet makes the blanket stretchier; it's true that the mattress stitch makes the seams rather rigid. Do you agree that I could try to crochet the squares together? First, I will have to learn how to crochet, but it might be worth the effort! Thanks. Chris in DC.

I love this join as well but the camera angle makes it very confusing. Arne crocheted across one side then like he was continuing in the counter clockwise he joined in the corner to the next square. The stitches would be twisted to join back to the first edge row....this is very confusion kicked in :)

First of all - I am a fairly new crocheter. I am trying to understand the "joining the squares". I am fine with the *sc, ch 3, sc, sc* sequence on the initial square. However, am struggling with joining part when the second square is introduced. We do a sc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, sc into the second square. This is where I get lost. Where does that dc "attach" to? They talk about creating an arch. I bought the pattern and I cannot understand or follow it. I love the look of this method of joining, but I am frustrated. I watched and listened to the video countless time, but I cannot understand the pattern. Any suggestions? I am not able to find any help about this joining method. ARNE & CARLOS do a fantastic job in the video, but I am too slow and lack the knowledge. I hope someone can respond.

Will like to see how you process when you come at the crossroads with 4 grannies when you join them. Thank you very much.

Hi Bea if you are allergic to wool you should try looking online for substitutes. Good luck!

The first time I came across a British crochet pattern it was from a crochet book I checked out at my local library. I didn't know the difference in stitch names an couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. 😂

Děkuji za vaše videa , moc ráda na ně koukám a přiučím se novým věcem . S angličtinou je to maličko složitější i tak se učím i jazyk , Google automatický překlad titulků je opravdu nedokonalý :-)
