Hi everyone! We have been scrolling and reading your comments this morning. Thanks so much for all your feedback, we really appreciate it! We are really pleased to read that plastic bags are being banned in many places - and we really hope they will be banned in Norway soon! We have been using fabric bags for shopping for 3 years now and even if it’s not much, we do believe that every little contribution towards making our planet a better place does count. As for patterns in crochet - YES - we will be doing a crochet bag design and tutorial later this year, so keep your eyes peeled! Also, a lot of people have mentioned in the comments to this video that it looks like we are doing a "3 needle bind off" and yes, this is pretty much what we show in this video. Remember that English is not our mother language and we don't call it that in Norwegian, so we had no idea it was called a "3 needle bind off" in English. I actually don't think we call it anything in particular in Norwegian... Usually, before we post a video, we never know in advance what the big topic in the comments field will be. For this video, we were very surprised to see that Arne’s haircut was the hot topic of the week! Well, this video was recorded in the end of September 2018 and yes, Arne had cut his hair at the time of filming, but he had also just come straight out of the shower so his hair was wet and therefore, the curls were gone during the time it took us to film this video. They did come back a few hours later, though and I can report that he looks like his usual self today!! We wish you a wonderful week ahead and look forward to interacting with you again on next week’s video! All best from Carlos (and Arne) 😊😊
Yes please, more patterns for net bags.
Yes, I love those knitted bags! They could be used for many different things, then throw it in the washing machine. Oh, I like Arne's haircut, too. What is your opinion on the Signature Arts circular convertible needles; are the joins smooth? Do you have a favorite way to block laces, the one-piece big, blocking board, or the smaller, 1-foot x 1-foot, squares, that look like puzzle pieces. Knitpicks.com has some, & "Woolove" sells some, through Amazon, that are much thicker, more than 1 cm. Which blocking do you like? Thank you.
Thank you for all of your wonderful posts.
Your English is so good. I can certainly understand that you don't know all of the terminology in English. Just in case you want to know some more, we call what Arne calls "lift" PSSO (Pass slipped stitch over). You guys are always so clear in your instructions and show the work so beautifully that I never have any trouble understanding what you mean. I've learned so much from you guys and I love your channel. I also love the non-crafting videos where you share your beautiful home and grounds with us and teach us a bit about Norway. Thank you for this video. Here in my county in Maryland we have to pay 5 cents for each shopping bag or use reusable bags that they sell for $1.00 each. I don't like the reusable bags because of the chance of cross-contamination from raw meat. People have gotten sick from these bags. I like that yours can be washed in the washing machine, and the fact that they are mesh bags will also cut down on the risk. I tried keeping separate bags for meat, but my husband went and bought a bunch of meat and used almost every bag we owned. They all got thrown away because the meat leaked all over them and I was afraid to reuse them since I couldn't get the blood out of the seams. You always have such great information.
ARNE & CARLOS ,
“No, I’m not going to do it.” You should print T shirts with that quip and sell them. Love you guys...you make my day!
"No I'm not going to do it"....Too funny! You tell 'em Arne! Love the bag.
Arne, I love how you set limits - if we want to finish the bag, learn how to crochet the bottom together! I really enjoy your videos, just directed my daughter to watch you because she wants to learn how to crochet. Thanks for all you do for your viewers.
Such brilliant men working together to make the world more beautiful and comforting. I love how you can have fun knitting a jumper or a doll. Arne is so full of ideas and always ready to start another project. And Carlos is there to help Arne get the right word and knit alonside his dear friend. And Carlos is so good at explaining to us what we need to know and he could do it in 4 languages i read. How brilliant that is to speak in so many tongues. Im amazed each video i watch. Thank you guys for being my hero in the knitting world.
Thank you for your comment!
Great gift idea! My daughter is always losing her shopping bags and borrowing mine!
You wonderful guys! You’re a gift to humanity. A global treasure. Happy Epiphany from New Jersey USA. Lauren
I love watching Arne knit because I knit exactly like he does. My mother’s family came from Denmark and she didn’t want me to knit like her. She wanted me to learn the “American” way. I signed up for a class at the local yarn shop and the teacher was from Norway and so I learned to knit like her ( and my mom)
I’ve never changed. Love your podcasts. Hello from Maryland, USA
I love this idea! Also I like how you warned us that it will grow longer than it looks originally. I like that you were very concerned about it being sturdy which is very important for a shopping bag. Thank you!
I love the colour fab.
Hi my favorite men...Love Arne hair cut...my gran crochet me a shopping bag many years ago I still have it....it goes in the washing machine to and I am 85 now.....it mostly gets used for my wool ....once I can pick up my needles again after my stroke I will be having a go....Bless you Both Dolly xx
How special, I know you treasure your Gran's bag! I hope you have a speedy recovery and can knit again soon.
Thank you for commenting dolly and keep on crafting!😊❤️
Thank you all for your wishes Bless you all
Dorothy Bolden ♥️♥️
Praying today that you have a very speedy recovery Dorothy. Start planning your next knitting projects. Best wishes.
Yes please both!!!!!!! Love you both!!!!
I just saw your ad for your crocheted bird feeder. That’s the way I make my crochet shopping bags. I start at the bottom and freelance a medallion then do a couple of rows like your bird feeder, then I do a row where I make 2 sets in each set, then go about making the rest of the bag. They work well.
Please do more designs for shopping bags ! Both crochet & knit ! As always, it is a pleasure spending some time with my muses.
Also, I'd love,to see all your ideas about shopping bags. I prefer knitting, but I can do,crochet too, so I can't wait wait see whatever you two choose to share. Thanks!
Arne said that you all have a lot of shopping bags...may we see them? That would be fun!
Oh yes....this would make a great video.
I used to cut up the plastic bags into strips and connect them.... we called it PLARN and crocheted it. I made permanent thick plastic bags out of them. One of them I still take to the beach. 🤗.
That is a great idea.
Robyn Smith somewhere in the world ladies are crocheting matresses for poor homeless people out of this plarn I believe....
Cynthia Molenaar you are correct.
I’m in the process of cutting my bags to do the same.
@@cynthiamolenaar770 I was going to say the same thing. I have heard of ladies getting together in churches and on their charities they have mattresses made of "plarn" for homeless.
Saving the planet with beauty and creativity! 😊
A timely video! Great to share 20 minutes with you!
Can't wait to try this with plarn❣️
Yes! I will learn how to crochet.... because Arne said I should!!🤓
I love this bag. I have crocheted bags before but this is lovely and will give it a go.
Yes! Please do more bags. knit and crochet!
Awesome shopping bags! I love knitting and crochet bags so share whatever you can! You two are wonderful! Enjoy!!! ❤️🐑❤️
Here In Western Australia plastic bags have been banned in all shops. We have been using cloth bags but I have been inspired to finish a crochet bag I began years ago. Then make many more. Thank you.
Dear Norwegian knitting gods....i would love more bag patterns... Both knit and crochet and combinations are great! Thank you for being you! 💚💗💛
Thanks for another great video! I love creating shopping bags! I crochet, knit, crochet or knit then wet felt, sew or mix all my media together. The possibilities are endless with these lovely bags, and most important, Earth Friendly! 🌎❤️ Not to mention its another great way to use up leftovers. Thanks for sharing your ideas and expertise with us and the encouragement to try something new! Have a wonderful and joyous day, and give Freja some love for us. 🐶❤️
It would be a huge pain but non-crochet folks could conceivably do a Kitchener stitch on the bottom of that beautiful shopping bag. Love this video. Personally I also would crochet the bottom.
Here on Maui plastic bags have been banned for several years now and you can see the differance! No plastic bags flying on the roads or on the beach. Soon styrofoam will be banned! Tusen takk og klem fra meg!
Nancy Skrimstad That’s fantastic!! We hope they ban plastic bags in Norway too!
Nancy, they should be banned everywhere. Here in Texas they tried, and they got them out again. Nonsense. Me and my husband have bags we reuse and are sturdier.
Plastic bags are supposed to be banned in the USA. But, old people like me, can't afford garbage bags so we use them for kitchen scraps etc which is our way of recycling plastic bags.
I absolutely love the two of you. God bless.
❤️
Learning to knit and crochet and love watching you two. More patterns the merrier we will be.

Love the k2t bind off! Love the fact this bag fits over the shoulder. Don't blame you at all or saying this is a good reason to learn crochet it's the right way to close the bag. More please Knit and or Crochet or both!
We must do all we can to clean up the plastic waste we have created in this world!
Thank you both!
Yes, please add more patterns, both knit and crochet! My small town in Westchester, NY adopted a ban on plastic bags starting on Jan 1, 2019. My friend and I immediately started crocheting a market bag as a project we can do together. I just saw this video posted, I watched it, and I emailed the link to my friend. Our next project will be this "Waffle-Weave" Knitted Market Bag. Thanks for this video and all of your videos. You guys are so much fun to watch while learning. Takk!
Love it! Yes, more bags please. I love bags! So good of you to highlight the plastic waste problem as well!
Yes! I like the knitting project but do think that every knitter should know the basic crochet stitches! Thanks for sticking to your guns Arne!
dogsinolga We totally agree with you!
you guys are soooooooooooooo cool
I love your little projects and most of them save the environment
God Bless !!!
Australia has stopped plastic bags too. Very useful project. Thank you.
Thank you for your message about the prevalence of plastic and conscious choice about avoiding it. I find when I pull my knitted shopping bag from my handbag at the store that often times it prompts a conversation about knitting and then the person who is helping me and I get to know a bit more about each other. It is a lovely way to connect. And they are always amazed at how much can fit in my relatively small bag. Especially yarn!
Love your shirt, Arne. ☮️
I wish I could knit. I love to watch you knit you are so fast. Love you two.
Thank you for the close up view on this video. It will help for beginners knitter. I love this idea for the bag.
Love you guys, I really like the bag. Arne, your haircut is great.
Thank you for this video. I wish all the stores would do without plastic. I will follow your instructions and knit a bag and hopefully more. You both speak very clear and make it fun. Thanks
I love making net bags. All the patterns I've found so far have a yarn over, then a knit two together, which slows me down when I do those rows. I will defiantly try your method when I make my next bag. Thanks for sharing your wisdom!
I find K2tog stitches can be very tiring when you have to do so many, so I am glad to find an alternative here (sl 1 st, K1, psso). I am making a narrow scarf incorporating that alternative just to get accustomed to it before using it on a market bag. The scarf will resemble the strap that Arne has knitted in the video, with a narrow garter-stitch border added on both sides.
Yes, crochet please!! :) This is great!
Yes please! More bag patterns! Multiple sizes, including mini/small! Knitting or crochet, or both!
I love the fact that you uploaded this video around the same time I heard in the news about Oslo now banning car traffic from the inner city to fight pollution. Way to go! ❤️
Great !! Now that l saw this , l have another project to do while putting up with the winter BLAHHSss. Oh by the way l have a friend who made bags with her mountain of plastic bags. Again, thank you two for your talents!!
Good winter day.
I love your hair cuts.
I have been looking for a great handmade project for my family to work on for 2019 Christmas (yes already planning), and this will be great to give to friends and families. I love that it is in cotton too because I have many vegan friends who will appreciate this.
I just discovered you on UA-cam- been watching your videos for hours and you are absolutely addictive! I love the items from your closet. Very beautiful history. If I ever met Arne’s Grandmother I think I would be so captivated I would spend hours watching a master. You guys are great. Looking forward to many more hours watching your lighthearted and enlightening videos.
These willneed to wait as I made fabric, sewn bags with vinyl for christmas gifts. Hugs WAH.
I’d love to see a crochet bag!
Very clever idea! Thank you very much
I’m 1 minute into this video and I’m excited, I’m going to make shopping bags. Now to continue watching. As always thank you for sharing.
Love all the colors!
Great idea to use the for fruits and veggies, even less waste!
I prefer crochet because I am just learning knitting...I enjoy watching you. Both of you are very pleasant gentlemen.
No more paper or plastic shopping bags here in California, so this tutorial was great for me! Please do more patterns.
You are two of my favorite men; you are perfect together!
Arne I forgot to say how much I love your shirt! It is awesome.
LOVE my knit bags! And they make great gifts for people. A fun and satisfying project making these.
Glad you like them!
Yes please, some crochet bags and knitted lace bags. These are lovely.
Yes please, more bags. Thank you for your time and lessons.
I have shopping bags made of recycled plastic bottles tbat fold into little poucbes, which are great because I can even fit one in my pocket. But Arne's bag is a lot better looking! Also Arne, I love your shirt!
Thank you for another great video! And thank you for your concern for the environment. Wish more Americans would take this more seriously!
Love the knitted bag. Great idea!
I always hit like before I watch because I know I'm going to love it anyway . These look great
Hahaha , 'no I'm not going to do it ,learn how to crochet , '
I’m a new subscriber! I was browsing and I’ve been looking for a tutorial on shopping bags since I was gifted with yarn perfect for this project. Thanks so much!
Thanks for doing your little bit to save the planet! A lot of your followers will now be swapping knitted bags for plastic. Every little bit counts! Great way to start the new year...Btw Arne u look pretty cool in that new 💇🏼♂️ 🤗
That is so cute. I think that stitch pattern is really pretty. I can't wait to make one.
Thank you you two are so lovely to listen to. Yes please more ! Both knitting and crochet. Happy 2019 !
Great looking shopping bags. And environmentally friendly. We used to get our groceries in brown paper bags.
Thank you Patricia!
Thank you for the tutorial. I would love to see a crochet shopping bag next. thanks.
More shoppings bags would be great > knitting is preferred > Thanks Arne and Calos
Thank you both for another great video. I love knitting shopping bags. It gives me a chance to try new stitches and ideas.Your groceries don't care if you've made mistakes. LOL
yes, LOTS of more knitting bags. Great idea!!!
Hello,i use no plastic bags anymore,i do like you 2: i am knitting my bags, looooove iT.thank you, greetings from belgium xxx
Thank you so much for this video. My county now charges for plastic bags and most people now use reusable ones that are made of plastic anyway! These are a much better alternative and definitely more environmentally friendly. Can't wait to knit up a few. Not only will it be better for the environment but I'll be stylin' as I'm shopping! Love you guys!! :)
❣Hi, Arne&Carlos, yes, please: more shopping bags! I'll use them instead of gift paper for presents! So far I'm often knitting kitchen hand towels with little patterns, got this idea in Denmark, and they are nice for wrapping things. But these bags are very useful, too. Thank you for sharing, love from Germany, Monika❣
Oh dear... I just learned how to knit and now Arne forces me to learn how to crochet or else i can't make this amazing shopping bag. You two are the best and You are so funny, even when You don't try to be funny. Thanks so much for sharing (and caring) . All the best from Mette DJ
Yes, please do some crochet bags, too. I am better at that than knitting right now. I'm glad I found your tutorials! They are so interesting and well done. Thank you!
Julie Kellum this is a very simple knitting technique. Try it, you’ll master it very fast! Good luck!!
Love the size of these bags. This is great mindless knitting for tv or watching my grandsons play ball. Thank you so much. ❤️🧶✌🏻
Hello. I learned of Arne & Carlos while watching Kate on The Last Homely House. Today I was looking at your patterns and saw the Net Bag and decided I wanted to see how to make it. While watching your UA-cam video I thought you might be interested in making bags using "plarn" ... yarn made by cutting plastic bags into strips, you can then knit or crochet the bags using the plarn. I have seen many made by friends, they are very sturdy and I think a great way to recycle plastic bags. I have not yet made any myself, though I have lots of plastic bags, of many colors, saved for the day I start my adventure with plarn. There are videos on UA-cam. Your bags are much prettier. Thank you for sharing your adventures.
Thank you for the suggestion, we will look them up!
Great use of left over yarn. Please do more!
Finally tried out your "seaming trick" that you show on the handles. OMG It's amazing. I knit and sell my things, and have almost sold out of headbands/ear warmers. I was dreading making more because I despise seaming. But your trick works amazingly! You should do an entire video on that!! Thank you so much!
Thank you and thank you for the suggestion!
We have started using reusable bags in my house to try and cut the plastic bags down to nothing. Now we can do it with beautiful bags. Thank you for sharing this Arne and Carlos! You guys are the best!
I love it. Arne-"no I'm not going to do it." Once again a delightful addition to my day.
It's a beautiful bag. Love it wish I could knit. I do crochet.
What a great idea and easier than a lot of tote bag patterns. But very effective and yes, we all need to use less plastic! Great colours. Will make a great change from knitting dishcloths. Thank you both. 😁
You guys are adorbs. I love your videos! Thanks for sharing your creativity with the world!
I just came across some navy cotton while organizing my stash. . I think 6 balls, so I'll be making 2 shopping bags. Thank you again for being such wonderful & entertaining guys 💙❤
Yes, please do more shopping bag designs in either knitting or crochet stitches. Love the colors shown.
Thank you for the bag inspiration. I have some tee shirts that i also want to crochet connections onto them for bags and recycle .
I will definitely be making this bag, and would love to see more patterns, especially a crochet version. And Arne, I had a good laugh when you said “no, I’m not going to do it!”
Inspiring video to help reduce plastic! And doesn’t look too hard either! Would love to see more knitted bag designs. Thank you Arne and Carlos
Thanks a joy to see you both.
Love this idea. I have green bags that you can buy but these are much prettier. You guys have a great evening.
How I wish you would make and sell one shopping bag to me!! Love your videos.
When I was a child, my nana had a crochet bag that folded into it’s own base. The base if I can remember was two circles and this formed the base of the bag when it was opened. It was sort of like a clam shell if my memory serves me correctly. It was so neat when folded away and she could keep it in her handbag without it being bulky. I’ve never been able to find a pattern like it . It was mercerised cotton as it was quite silky in feel and very strong.
That sounds like a practical bag. We have a crochet pattern, but it resembles a net.
I would really like to see a video on different stitches and designs for shopping bags!
I love you guys, my Sunday is better, once I've seen your video, you make me laugh! Please, make more shopping bags patterns. have a wonderful week, triumphs in everything you do.
