I love watching Arne’s hands as he knits because he knits the way I knit and I know you two love dpn which I also love using as well. However, I would prefer you were sitting on the other side of the table so the camera would show your hands from the correct point of view instead of upside down. I can translate the movements in my head but I imagine that there are people who can’t do that and it would be helpful for them to see Arne’s hands in the same perspective that they would see their own hands. But I find it really helpful to watch him as he keeps pulling and stretching the work a little, even after each needle to keep the tension even.

Hello Arne and Carlos, I love your podcasts, hands only. You make me feel like I should be living in Norway with all the history you share. So that got be thinking about if I have any Norwegian blood. My birth name is O'Neil. We are decendents of King O'Neill of northern Ireland. The Vikings invaded in that area and mention Norway mostly. So, although greatly thinned out over the centuries I believe I have Viking heritage. Which makes me feel connected. Thank you and please keep sharing your hands only podcasts. So wonderful!

These two patterns are beautiful. 'Knit to fit' is the best sdvice , I did the small pattern first and realised the rib was too tight, the large were too long for me, but the rib was perfect. I could have played with the needle size but am too impatient! I needed to remove 4cm from the central part of the pattern and the design was just ideal to do that without compromising it. I've learnt lots doing the mittens and the double layer certainly make them toasty warm. On to my next pair, the split 8 leaf rose ones next!

I have to agree with you about the Norwegian Purl. So many ways, and most of them appear to be more Continental. I love the way you Knit and Purl because I find it very easy. I grew up learning the throwing (or English) style so when I am doing colour work it’s really easy to combine Norwegian and English. You guys just make everything so straightforward!

Here in the UK many people still use the old lb's & ounces but we now teach the metric system(Grams, litres, ml etc) so most of us can use both systems! And to confuse things we also use measuring cups! Which I think originated from America! 😁🤣 Love the mittens.

Those "round" snowshoes are called "bear paw" snowshoes in America. You will have such fun using these!!! There is nothing like getting into the deep woods with these. And yes, please, I am really interested in the old recipes that Arne has from his great grandmother. I have been making some recipes from 18th century America, and they have been very good (mostly). Often there are poor directions or inadequate measurements and a lot of guesswork is involved, but it is fun to try to figure them out. I think Arne's old recipes would be fun to learn about-- old recipes and crafts are living history.

So much information, I’m not sure where to start.
First, the mittens are beautiful and your thumb gusset is spectacular, Arne.
Secondly, you have given me my goal for 2020. To convince my husband to learn to knit, finally, so that he can participate in the knit along on the voyage in September. I might need your help but we can only do our best with that.
Lastly, have a wonderful first week of Advent. Many good wishes as you complete this marathon journey and head home to the peace and beauty that awaits.

I have been knitting in the English style since I first learned to knit about 20 years ago but have been looking for a more efficient way to knit. I tried the Continental style a few years ago with no luck. Yesterday I discovered one of your videos, and I am now knitting a toque in the Norwegian style, and it is working out! I just want to wish you a Merry Christmas. Every year I had knit gifts to give, but this year I had been very busy with a change of career to one of culinary (my new artistic adventure). Since the holiday chaos has eased off I am now getting back into a new knitting inspiration and the double knit mittens idea are making their way into a hat
For some challenging fun, I have made the brim of the hat using two colour brioche, and then decided to add more complication where I am doing double knitting using the basket weave stitch in the two colours (knit stitches will be colour A or B on either side, and then purl in the reverse) .
Thank you so very much for being a wonderful inspiration, and have yourselves a Happy New Year

I also plan to knit up the patterns for hats that I purchased on your site for next year as well. I hope your tour went well and you two get some rest before Christmas. I love your videos. This one was so relaxing to watch after being with high school students today. The way Arne moves his fingers while they both talk is enlightening. You bring so much joy to the UA-cam community. I do a lot of baking and a big yes to metric! I don’t understand why the US doesn’t use it all the time. And sorry to hear about the US distributors holding your fabrics hostage so we are unable to purchase here in America. Well listen up, I buy yarns from all over the world. So when I locate a place in the U.K. or wherever, I’ll order it. There are online stores so getting access to these fabrics are no problem! I don’t care about the width. There are more important things to worry about like what Arne and Carlos project am I going to start on next? You made my day! Love you both!

I love you gentlemen so much, watching (or listening while I knit) calms me, and I am going to try to make the Danish treat baskets for my little and Dad, because we have Danish blood❤❤ I also NEED to make the mittens, my daughter will probably live them, she can be a bit picky about what Mommy makes for her though😅

*Arne & Carlos:* "We have a video for that."

*Me:* "Hm. Maybe I should knit those mittens instead of the socks I had planned on."

    *. . .* 😰
*Carlos:* @14:00 *"You have plenty of time. Don't stress about this."* 💖
*Me:* "Whew! Right. I can knit up my socks this weekend (and maybe next), then knit the mittens. It's only January. Winter in Sweden lasts through March, at least. *breathes* The choice is made. Knitting is relaxing again. 😎
*Carlos* ought to make knitter's relaxation tapes: You have plenty of time. Don't stress. A jog at the seam under your arm won't show. It's okay to have a jog on your socks.
*Arne's* needles can be clicking rhythmically in the background, ASMR-like. A light overlay of Arne's quite voice, saying: You can steam it out. Steam it, and gently pull the too-tight stitch. Steam it. We're here to help.

Some American bakers measure ingredients in the metric system, and others measure with the imperial system. We can convert from one to the other. I'm especially happy about your vegetarian recipes.

OMG, Dried lamb ribs. PLEASE can you show us how to do that. Our family eats a lot of lamb because we raise Shetland sheep. Me too. We do a lot of trade shows & spend lots of time at hotels. My God i hate their breakfasts, absolutely disgusting....LOL Your cruse sounds fab. I wouldn't mind supplying 100% Qiviut yarns for the cruse knit along of the future.

A perfect Pavlova must contain maisenna and vinegar for it to hold it's shape while baking. And let it cool in the oven after baking. Otherwise it may collapse like yours Carlos. Much love

This one was interesting because about an hour in you were talking about your trip in March 2020 and how you would like to not travel so much. Seems to be.one of those careful what you wish for things. I have benefited from your staying home more but we know less travel did not mean no travel in anyone's mind. 😔

I am from England (now living in Norway!) and I have always known people to use the metric system for baking/cooking there. But it could be a generational thing, as I know that some from the older generations use measurements like pounds/feet/inches etc when measuring other things (and it just totally baffles me!)

Awesome mittens and loved the show! The type of oven you use is more important than metric or imperial measuring. I made many successful Pavlovas in my electric oven, and I made a flat one like you did when I used another person's oven that was fueled by propane gas - actually make that two flat ones. My neighbor who was a passionate baker, told me that electric ovens, particularly convection types are the best for baking.
