    WOW! I too am glad you didn't use a shovel! That was/is a very jaw dropping pocket find, hope it is still there when you go back. Yeah you'd definitely make a bit for your toy fund selling your extra finds.

    I haven't seen the black-red-gold etc crystals in any of my books, unbelievably pretty! I forgot what they are, I'll look back on your video!
    Good finds toots! Lol! Well, I have a second favorite now, my laborite (?) And your new black ones, you'll have fun with the wire!!! Lol!
    YES!!! You have to go back there so you can get that BIG one!! GO SLOW SO YA DON'T BREAK IT! If it's that beauty-green you like, you will be VERY HAPPY YES?...YES!!

      I want to dig deeper for the green apatite. It is the best quality that I have seen come out of the ground here.

      meMiner I know the green apatite is really prettu-green........the black crystals drove me nuts.....I looked again but those are not in my 5 books, lol! Very pretty.....boy you will be having fun with the wires! Ha!

    • @meMiner

      Honestly, most of the the black clusters look better when dirty, then clean and dry.

      meMiner That's funny hey? I'm happy u found your apatites.-so many, same as the big one!! When u go back there, go slow with the dirt, it looks like the break easily....

      There is always a compromise. Dig fast and get quantity or slow and maybe get quality.

      I just look for crystal faces, shine and colour. Usually, things are so dirty that it is the shape that gives it away. If the dirt is dry, it can be brushed off, but normally the dirt is damp, especially when you dig. Some people have suggested taking water with me, but that is not normally practical.

    At first i thought shoral /black tourmaline but there is much more going on in those crystals. It would be nice to find a unexposed pocket that still had clay protecting the gemstones .The small pieces may indicate that explosives were used nearby.

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner  6 років тому +1

      It is entirely possible that old timers used explosives in the area.

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner  6 років тому +1

      No worries. As long as you are talking about me and not Daisy. Although, I did read something interesting....if your DOG is getting fat, YOU are not getting enough exercise. In Canada, we don't talk pounds or stones anymore. Pounds are what we spend when in the UK. Stones are what we collect in the forest, or accumulate in our gall bladder. Kilo is the new weight measure. LOL

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner  6 років тому +1

      I am not crazy about the darker crystals. They have nice shapes, but instead I really like red, green or blue apatite. What impressed me about this stuff was its hardness. All too often apatite will crumble into coarse green sugar with just finger pressure.

    question.. what do you do with the apatite once you collect it?

  • @CoinandRelicOntario
    @CoinandRelicOntario 6 років тому +2

    Yeah I always use bare hands when I hit a pocket. Have to be able to feel the crystals, gloves won't work. That's how I am able to pull out fully double terminated ones. The black material is naturally etched amphibole, probably Richterite. Looks nice wet, but like clumps of crap dry! LOL!

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner  6 років тому +1

      So true. I threw some of the weathered black pieces onto my gravel path out back. I had to move them because it looks like Daisy left a present.

    • @CoinandRelicOntario
      @CoinandRelicOntario 6 років тому +1

      meMiner At least they are double terminated presents!! LMAO!!

    • @GeologyofGemsMinerals
      @GeologyofGemsMinerals 6 років тому +1

      I like the thin rubberized cloth gloves. They give enough dexterity to dig pockets. And you don't risk getting cut on sharper things like broken quartz.

    • @CoinandRelicOntario
      @CoinandRelicOntario 6 років тому +1

      Geology of Gems & Minerals Yeah I use them to dig and move waste rock and collect at sites where sharper stuff is present but pockets it's no glove, but still get the love.. of minerals that is! LOL!

    Just would be happy like a kid to come to some jem(or better silver/gold)hunting with you-seems like I always fail with looking for a spot to fìnd some stuff and you definitely know where to look for them!
    By the way as I remember apatite is an ore of something-so what is mined from it?
    Yep,and BTW don't you know how and where to look for either nevianskite or sisertskite in the area?Though as I know they are insanely rare but who knows?)

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner  6 років тому +2

      Apatite was mostly used for fertilizer ... a source of phosphorus. Sometimes as a gemstone.

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner  6 років тому

      I think tumbling would be a good way to separate any that are fractured from ones that could be cut. I might give it a try, just to see what happens.

      When I saw you mention amphibole, I looked it up as I do a lot, and the description said it is course grained. So will it polish. Great vid as usual!

      Minerals have filled in where an other crystal used to be. So it looks like one kind of crystal, but the minerals inside are completely different.
