I know it might shock some people but the circle button appearing above enemies to command your character to brutally murder them is not in the myths.

What are you talking about? I see circle buttons over people before I brutally murder them, I don’t see why it’s not in Greek Mythology

Are you an expert? Can you check again???? I need to see your sources, THIS CAN'T BE TRUE
I think the reason Apollo never appeared or died in this series is because if he was killed, his death would probably get rid of all music, and we can’t have a god of war game without epic music.
Ah true. He must’ve been hiding at Santa Monica Studios
@@TheMythologyGuy1 but then wouldn't kratos kill him like he killed the director of the game,at the ending of god of war 1 if you destroy the 2 statues next to the throne before sitting on it a phone number appears and when you call it kratos congratulates you for beating the game and then later the director starts talking and kratos kills him,the number still works

Fun fact: If Haphaestus sounds familiar, he’s voiced by Rip Torn, the same man who voices Zeus in Disney’s Hercules
Yup
Oh shit I thought he sounded familiar
What’s funny is Zeus’ actor in this game Corey Burton played Disney’s Zeus in Kingdom Hearts III
@@TheMythologyGuy12
Anyone else thought he zues was voiced by John Goodman?
I like to imagine that the reason why the other Olympians were not killed was because they had a plan and its finally come to fruition. Maybe Hestia, Aphrodite, Demeter, Apollo, Artemis and Dionysus (and the other minor gods whom Kratos didn't kill) purposefully stayed out of Kratos' way in order for Kratos to kill Zeus and the other Olympians so that the ones who remained, would rebuild Greece with themselves becoming the new rulers. Maybe Hestia, Demeter, Apollo, Artemis, Aphrodite and Dionysus would be the new rulers of Olympus with Hestia being Queen of the gods (Because she's goddess of the Hearth, Homes, Families and the State).
Hearthfire conspiracy: it was all rigged from the start...
That’d be cool to see in a future game. Like maybe Atreus goes to visit Greece and bumps into the spared gods and become allies
Honestly the missing/minor gods just being smart enough to stay out of Kratos's way (and not taunt him like the others did) is a pretty good theory.
I like this headcanon
Well hestia is nice so that's probably why kratos didn't kill her and kratos doesn't want to kill everyone just the gods that wants beef with him
Ironically, Hercules trying to take Kratos' title of god of War is kinda accurate since in the myth Heracles "took" Cratus' title as the god of Strenght
True
@@TheMythologyGuy1 hey, your depiction of cratus is actually heracles not cratus because I see that he is holding the nemean lion skin
Wait does he's still the personification of strength right?
Not entirely accurate. Hercules would just be a double of Cratus, a lot of gods have the same domains as other gods and this is the result of a lot of mixing (everyone knows Hercules but not everyone knows Cratus, so they just forgotten him and made Hercules that god instead). Hercules domain is the defense of cities and walls, his two immortal sons are the guardians of Olympus and their names were called by the invaded during city invasions, so Hercules is probably related to that. There is no place where Cratus give Heracles his title, nor Apolo took the title from Helios, nor Dionysius took the seat from Hestia, i see a lot of people saying that, but there is no stories about that.
Heracles a double of Cratus? Funny, since Kratos was made as a dark parallel to Heracles. Maybe he does have some Cratus in him.
Imagine if zeus's bodyguards were actually there with Zeus watching kratos fight poseidon and when they saw kratos brutalizing poseidon they got so scared that they left immediately and then zeus was just standing there alone and disappointed
it's giving Beowulf's companions leaving when they see the dragon
So that's why Cratus wasn't in the game.
Nike: Here's my note of resignation!
no
They and most of the rest of the main gods of Olympus other then Athena pretty much did this when Typhoon attacked Olympus.
Fun fact, Artemis was supposed to appear in this game but was cut out due to time constraints. She was depicted as half-woman half-lioness (with goat horns and lizard tail no less) for some reason.
So she would be half person and half Chimera?
Hmm, the GoW Wiki says Artemis was cut content from GoW Ascension Multiplayer, not GoW3.
@@ThePreciseClimber Ah, okay, my bad.
@@beegdawg Maybe Artemis was the friends we made along the way
I think the reason we don't see a lot of the gods like Apollo is because they were smart and didn't get in the way. Specifically I could see it where the gods who hated Zeus more than anything just sat back and let Kratos do the work for them. Apollo in particular could have secretly been reviving Kratos with the death cure his son made just to get rid of Zeus as for why Apollo would do this well don't forget Zeus killed Apollo's son.
Yeah, I would like to imagine that after Zeus's death. Hestia, Demeter, Aphrodite, Dionysus, Apollo and Artemis would rebuild Greece with themselves becoming the new rulers of Olympus. Maybe they intentionally never get involved in the war against Kratos in order to not get killed by Kratos and to get rid of the other Olympians.
Interesting headcanon, that's actually a very creative explanation for the absence of the other Olympians.
Nah it's obvious that developers never thought about that and only put these gods of Olympus into the game
@@Omega-jg4oq why would they think of Hermes and Helios but not the others? It makes sense why they wouldn't get involved in the fight.
@@TheKnowledgeMan101 didn't all of the Olympian gods die when Zeus died? I vaguely remember hearing that they did but i can't remember if it was confirmed in game or not

@yoshpeters3079 i thought it was the other way around
Some behind the scenes infor:
Addressing the Golden Ichor blood. They originally DID bleed that in this game with the notable moment being the decapitation of Helios where it was to be gold ichor and a burst of uncontrolled sunlight erupting from his neck. The only remnant of this is how his eyes and mouth are "bleeding" sunlight. However when they did that, they found it to really kinda not read well as to what was happening. The decision to dial it back to "just red blood" was for more of a "my ook ook monkey brain understands this" for the common audience. This idea was still used when Kratos pins Zeus to the heart of Gaia.
@Mister Majestic Piss. Ichor looks like piss.
@@mistermajestic829 honestly I don't think gods having gold blood is an issue in game since its not like everyone will be bleeding gold blood , there is monsters will bleed red blood in accurate Greek mythology
So you will get to experience both red blood and gold blood
@Mister Majestic true, gold blood does look like a slightly different version of pee is bursting from your wounds.
What about when kratos killed kronos
@@lhenzeybheta.gelbolingo7562 Sorta, as the final stab to his head is a burst of golden energy.
I think that "wraith form" from Zeus is supposed to be the hate that consumed him. It's the reason why Kratos's hope is what kills him for good.
Edit: I have been corrected. It is fear that consumed Zeus, not hate.
Is actually fear. The fear that infected Zeus when Pandora's Box got open.
fear. But close enough
Hades got infected with hate not zeus
@GhostSlash18 For hades you couldn't blame him. the guy doesn't get a break.
well think about it, fear leads to anger, and what does anger lead to?
Thats right, Hate.
Therefor, following the logic of something entirely unrelated, Zeus was infected by Hate
Just a quick note: Hermes’s winged helmet is also a misconception, in original greek myths he wears petasos, which is a hat with similar shape to the „classic” winged helmet
I always found it interesting how similar Kratos’s story is to Heracles. Kinda wanna see a Heracles game in a GOW style now
What’s funny is that’s also kinda reminiscent of the myths since the 2 were sometimes confused with each other due to both being gods of strength
@@TheMythologyGuy1 tbh, I wish the two teamed up at least for a bit in GOW3 since it was weird that Heracles (Hercules) took orders from Hera

The biggest misconception about Titans is that people think they are different from “Gods”. The Titans are literally Gods, they are just the older pantheon that were overthrown by the Olympians who became the next pantheon of Gods. Titans are not greater than Gods. They ARE Gods.
Congrats on 900k subscribers.

In gow they are at least cabable of speach and rational trought, contrary to the other versions cited.
Okay.
I love how kratos in this game is finding pandoras box to "kill a god" when before he obtain the box he already is killing gods
Zeus can fly and do other stupidly powerfull shit other gods cannot, so he probablye meant THE god
I think its more a power thing
You dont need magic to kill a random god like persephone
But you need some shit to defeat zeus and his descendants
How? He only killed Persephone before he opened Pandora’s box and I ain’t sure how he could kill her she was a goddess. He couldn’t kill Ares before opening the box in 1 but he has killed them ever since. In 3 he needs the flame of Olympus to kill Zeus he can already kill gods since 1.
@@yoshpeters3079 Maybe the rule doesn’t apply to all Gods/Goddesses. Not 100% sure on this rule, but since Persephone was kidnapped and forced into living with Hades, she turned into a goddess through actions rather than birth like Hades went through?

The story of Kratos is basically a reimagining of Haracles. But instead of Hera it’s Ares that tricks Kratos into killing his family and instead of labours for forgiveness he goes on a murderous rampage.
I find it funny how both Kratos and Hercules used a gold “hide” as protection (nemean lion skin and golden fleece) it’s also cool how Kratos even seems to respect Hercules, not wanting to fight him

I know that this isn't in the Myth but each gods in this game are infected by the evils that defines their opposites or defines their personality:
Poseidon: Temporarily resisted the evil of anger
Hades: Evil of Grudge
Hermes: Evil of Pride
Hera: Evil of Vanity/Drunkenness (opposite of Motherhood)
Zeus: Evil of Paranoia (he always seemed to fear and act on fear for his deeds or his illegitimate children)
Helios: Evil of Deceit (Once an Oathkeeper)
Athena: Evil of Greed (Greed often makes people do unwise things)
Heracles: Evil of Envy (he's jealous of Kratos yet he equally achieved as he did)

On the topic of Zeus allowing the box to be opened in God of War 1, I think it could come down to two things. One, he didn't know Kratos was after the box until it was too late, or he considered it a justified last means and didn't realize the evils would corrupt him and the Olympians. Since it was Fear that took hold of Zeus, his fury at Hephaestus may have just been the intensified irrationality Zeus had harbored within himself prior, the same that led him to ordering Athena and Ares to kidnap Deimos. Question about Pandora's Pithos: if all the evils left but hope remained inside, doesn't that mean hope never went out into the world?
I think it’s that hope stayed with humanity while the rest went against it
@@killerkobe1903 but the point of the myth is that the evils were trapped and went into the world. If staying in the pathos was staying with humanity, then leaving the pathos would have done nothing.
There is multiple responses. First, the evils also have their good counterpart, and the goods are also in another Pithos. When Pandora release all evils, but not Hope, this means that Hope is in the control of Zeus. In the fables is said that the reason why life is so hard is because we are constantly battling against the evils, while the goods are release by Zeus sometimes, so Hope actually goes to the world, but only when Zeus wants, and after that they comeback to him. This is why life is harsh. The other version is that Prometheus was the creator of hope, and he put hope inside the Pithos, because he used his foretrought to know that Zeus would give Pandora the Pithos with evils, that way, she also release the evils AND hope, without Zeus knowlegde. So while the Goods are just release sometimes by Zeus, and the evils are with us the entire time, Hope is the only good that is always with humanity, this is why people continue to battle even when situations appear "hopeless" because hope is with us all the time, because of the trought of Prometheus.
@@sonofcronos7831 thank you for that, I've never heard of those. Also, you put "afterthought" I assumed you meant Epimetheus until I realised you meant "forethought"
@@GermanHunter1000 thanks for the correction i already changed that. In Aesop fables and Plato you can find the version about goods and evils. In Hesiod, Hope is with Zeus so Zeus controls all good things, while evils is always with humanity, this is why we need Zeus to have good things. Hesiod is a fervent follower of Zeus, His Will is inescapable according to Hesiod. But the writers that appeared later would say that Zeus releases good things sometimes, while Hope is always with humanity because of Prometheus. The other Good thing that Zeus screwed is Ploutos, the god of riches, a son of Demeter. Zeus blinded Ploutos so that he would give richs without knowing the people that he is giving his riches. So Zeus actually did not release the goods according to someome deeds according to these writers (with exception of Hesiod like i said, Hesiod says that Zeus rewards the just and hardworking people), but the good things Zeus would release at random people, not always to just people. So everyone gets the bad things, everyone gets the Hope, but random people will get random good things like friendship, luck (Ticke), Fame (Climene), piety and etc, this is the best way to describe Zeus rule according to greek writers.

Huh, I just noticed something. The Nemesis Whip’s main thing here is that it generates electricity in order to power things and damage foes.
In Persona 3, Nemesis appears as a Persona, used by Ken Amada, and it’s elemental affiliation is with Zio spells, electricity.
Has Nemesis ever had any association with electricity? If not, that’s a funny coincidence that I’ve seen this twice.
Well... she was one of zeus's 'victims'. A struggle snuggle. A non-negotiable Wahoo. You know what I mean?
Also an interesting note about Labyrinth is that, according to some interpretations, it was not some underground maze: it was a palace (labrys was the symbol of King Minos). At the time, any architecture more complex than one-two rooms and a single floor was so confusing for most people that a FOUR story palace (that Daedalus built) was perceived as something unthinkable, and completely disorienting for anyone seeing it.
22:37 Boys! We're headed to Delphi!!
Great video series so far, I'm thoroughly enjoying it!
It would be really cool to see a 'things they got right' video/series, even if the video is only 5 minutes long
Man, now I want a heracles game when he's completing the 12 labors. Mostly cause I just wanna see him doing the 12th labor
That’d be great
Yeah you can make it an boss battle game. Also I would like to see some do the Heracles but he struggling with wrath and having pstd for killing his first family
Yeah, that sounds like a great idea.

At this point i feel like "The Gods bleed red blood in this game despite the fact that they are deities and supposed to have golden ichor running through their veins" is a running joke
Pretty much
Yeah. In Ascension he started it and then just said "Eh whatever you get it" too
23:05 one of them got slayed in a comic book tie-in just called god of war (by DC Comics). They were trying to stop him from destroying the healing power of Asclepius because there were still worshippers of Ares trying to resurrect him with it. (The comic is also called “God of War: Quest for Ambrosia” in some cases)
I love this series, love these videos, really appreciate the time and passion that goes into these. I just want to share one thing, as I too am extremely passionate about Greek mythology. Hephaestus' forge was not in fact on Olympus, it was inside Mt. Etna, a volcanic island that really exists! Love the video!!
24:57 & 25:06 I think this was God of War's attempt at pulling a Glinda Good Witch of the North and mixing Hera with not only Dionysus (cuz of the drunkeness & connection to plants/nature I guess) but Demeter as well in that she's implied to be the one tending the garden & plant life of the world, which could explain why all the already dying plants shriveled up when Kratos killed her
4:53 if I had a nickel for every Greek god with crab legs for a crown, I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but its weird that there are two of them
I love these videos! They're so funny but also it's cool to learn about Greek Mythology stuff I didn't know.
A lot of people will say this video is raining on their parade but I'm a stickler for mythological accuracy
You know what this makes me curious about? What happened to the other Olympians that Kratos didn’t slay? Do you think they tried to rebuild what he destroyed? Do you think they assigned new deities to control the seas, the underworld, the sun, etc? Would they establish a new king or queen of the gods? Do you think they maybe just left? I’d honestly love to see that in a God of War story. Kratos, returning to Olympus years later, most likely on a quest of some kind, and seeing how those that survived are dealing with the aftermath of his destruction. It would be interesting to see how and if Greece moved on after Kratos
I’d love to see that too. I’ve said many times during streams that I think that’d be a great premise for a sequel
Maybe if we can see Boi’s adventures he might go to Greece. Not sure how he’ll get there though
Artemis is still around.
As are two of the 3 fates

28:20 I remember in Fantasia when Zues was mad for whatever reason, had his bolts made and started attacking everyone.
As to what you said in 1:45 I have a simple explanation for why there were no other gods to be seen... They didn't want to get involved in Zeus's nonsense 😂
I love to imagine there’s an outtake where the actor for Kratos (T.C Carson I think) screams “IM SO HOPEFUL” as he runs Zeus through 😂😂😂💀
Let’s hope so
@@TheMythologyGuy1 lol, it just popped into my head at the end of the video and I had to mention it because it was so perfect when I thought about it 😂😂😂 I also noticed something that I had a question about, the guy driving the flaming chariot, wouldn’t that be Apollo? If I’m wrong please correct me but if I remember both of them have been considered Sun gods at different times so Apollo being in the chariot and Helios being in the actual battle vs the titans kinda made sense to me and I thought Id ask
@@gabrieldevoogel6225 In the game’s canon that is Helios but yeah it would’ve made sense for it to be Apollo
@@TheMythologyGuy1 yeah sorry I never responded I forgot and life got in the way🙏🙏 it was a thought I had because I’ve been getting really into mythology more thanks to you in recent years and it was a tidbit I thought fit for accuracy sake to actual myths
Lol, that be funny
Kratos be all optimistic
I look forward to seeing what inaccuracies you may find in *"Dad of Boi"* and you may not get demonetized, due to the fact that there's less gore and hardly any... uhh... "indecencies" in the newer games. Also, I may have a few things that you may have missed in this Video:
- 0:30 Zeus must've said "Brothers" as in "Fellow Olympians", not in a literal sense. (Yes, it was already pointed out.)
- 4:18 I think Poseidon meant one of the more "Big Three" Gods, like Zeus and Hades.
- 11:33 I never really understood why everyone is comparing Hades to Lucifer from the Bible, aside from living in their respective versions of the Underworld. Here in the game, Hades is presented as a sadistic and sadomasochistic Tyrant. In the myths, Hades may have done a couple of pretty messed up things (i.e Abducting Persephone), but they weren't all malicious, per se. Most of the time, Hades is actually a benevolent ruler and surprisingly humble. Strict? Maybe, but he's not cruel and sadistic, as this game and most forms of pop culture make him out to be.
- 12:50 I'm surprised you never pointed out why Hephaestus was so much bigger, while the other Olympians are just Human Sized. It's no surprise that the Gods in this Franchise can apparently change their size at will, but why did Hephaestus remain the size he is now? The developers really didn't like to explain the details, when they made this game.
- 23:07 You forgot to point out the Reason Cronos was in Tartarus. According to our gigantic friend here, he was banished to Tartarus, because Zeus became more afraid of Kratos, after he took Pandora's Box. Which was completely inaccurate, because Cronos was actually chopped up into pieces after the Titanomachy and sent to Tartarus with the Titans who didn't side with Zeus.
- 24:11 Such hypocrisy!!!
- 27:46 You forgot to point out that the Labyrinth wasn't made to imprison Pandora, but that it was actually made for the Minotaur. The Minotaur's imprisonment was the reason why King Minos commissioned the Labyrinth's construction, after his Wife cheated on him with a Cow. Yes, that actually happened in Greek Mythology for those who didn't know.
- 28:30 You forgot to mention that in the myths, Hope was eventually released after Pandora opened the Pithos a second time. (In the myths, Pandora's "Box" wasn't actually a Box. It was actually a Pithos, which was a type of Greek Jar. Therefore, it should've been called "Pandora's Pithos". The reason TMG didn't mention this here was because it was mentioned in GOW1.)Odd that the Minotaur was nowhere to be seen throughout the Challenges, since its imprisonment was the reason why King Min
There is nothing wrong with Hades in this game. For once, he is not in opposition to Zeus, he is a villain because Zeus is a villan to our Kratos (who is a hero in his own story at least). And all "sadism" that he shows here is because, well, he is also the god responsible for punishing people into the prison of the dammed (tartarus). Like, Hades job is to make sure Kratos suffer for all eternity for defying the gods, he has punished people for even less (like Sisyphus). So what is the problem of Hades interaction with Kratos? You want to see him being soft or just after all Kratos has done against the gods?
@@sonofcronos7831 This Video is made to focus on the Game's *accuracy,* which is something that was barely added throughout the series. I'm aware that in the Game, Hades deals the punishment, but in Greek Mythology, punishments goes to Poena, the Spirit of Punishment and Divine Retribution. Also, while I am aware that Zeus and Hades are allies in this game (Which is accurate in the myths), Hades is not a tyrannical sadist, despite all the cruel punishments in the Underworld. He really is a chill dude. People need to stop comparing Hades to freaking Satan.
@@ryonhatcher4561about Poine, or the Furies, and etc, i guess that is a minor thing really. The greeks has a lot of deities working to the main gods. For example, Demeter is the god of agriculture, but there is also other gods like Triptolemus, Plouton, Gaia, all related to different aspects of her work. So just because Poine is the one presinding the punishment, this dont mean that Hades is not related to that. He assigne each one of the underworld god his domain, so the Furies, Poine and others punished insolent mortals to obey the will of Hades.
Also i am aware that Hades is not a sadistic monster or usurper, BUT, this dont mean that he is completely good. Internet has taken a liking to portray Hades as the good one compared to Zeus and Poseidon. True, they were worse (especially Poseidon), but Hades was a feared god in ancient times. He and Persephone have complete control over your soul after you died, and they could sent you to Tartarus. What i mean is that Hades is neither good nor evil, but he have his more ruthless side when dealing with "sinners", and god of war has taken that aspect perfecly: he is not a usurper or a villain per se, but he is also terryifing against people like Kratos. Also in gow there is the excuse that he is inflicted by some evil this is why he is even more bizarre in the game. The only problem is his apperance, Hades is a normal looking guy in ancieng greece, i liked his apperance here in the game but i understand if someone did not like, when Poseidon is only weird in his giant form while Zeus is always normal in every form.
@@sonofcronos7831 I'm aware that Hades has done some guilty stuff, like kidnapping Persephone, and that he's far from perfect. Not to mention, possesses a terrifying role in the Pantheon, *and* does dish out some harsh punishments to people like Sisyphus. But most of the time in Greek Mythology, Hades is a surprisingly chill dude.
@@ryonhatcher4561 the whole Satan is Hades thing Probably comes from later Christianity where one of the hot beds for the then new Religion being Greece (the Bible itself was translated to Greek, then Latin) and to be fair very few Greeks even worshipped Hades and probably didn't like him themselves (he wasn't seen as Evil but saying his name was seen as unlucky and invites death so there enough to say they didn't exactly like him either), still not how he is characterised in th Myths themselves but still the whole "I don't like the God of the Dead" thing probably transfered to an almost Unrelated Religion by word of mouth.

Hey man, you should take a look at Apotheon, is a greek myth indie game with a plot similar to gow 3, but here the gods abandoned the humans, and your main character gets help from hera to defy the olympians. The artstyle is amazing.
2:48 guess you could say when it came to naming these titans, it was just an afterthought
Kratos when opening Pandora’s box: “the power to kill a god.”
Me: wait didn’t you just kill like twenty? Why would you need the box again?”
I said the same thing when I first played this game
@TheMythologyGuy1 To be fair, Zeus, according to the Iliad, is more powerful than all the other gods and goddesses combined.
Considering he later one-shots Kratos and destroys all of his gear _before_ he tapped into the power of hope, I'd consider it less of a plot hole and more just bad writing style.
But that still runs into the problem of why Zeus didn't know the box was empty in the first place. When we last see the box, Kratos opened it, and it was left empty. Kratos nor Athena knew it was empty, so it must have been Zeus who closed it, or someone closed it and gave it to him. To add to the mythological inaccuracy counter, Zeus is omniscient according to Hesiod, but somehow didn't realize the box was empty despite the fact that someone down the line should have realized that?
@@travisoliver6741 he was mocking Kratos, doesn't mean he didn't know it was empty.
@user-mu8dm4rk7g If he knew it was empty, then he wouldn't have been wasting time locking away Pandora, because what she represents doesn't matter. A key to an empty box has no threat. Zeus seemed worried and told Kratos to stop her, as though she _was_ a threat.
He locked the box in an impenetrable fire and locked the key away in a deadly labyrinth. He beat Hephaestus bloody and threw him in Tartaros just to seize her. If you are trying to say that Zeus knew the box was empty the entire time, then that raises more questions.
In god of war chains of olympus Charon is killed with gauntlet of zeus. A weapon made for zeus to chain the titans. So we can assume it is powerful enough to kill a god. He killed Persephone the same way. In ghost of Sparta he killes Erynie without any godly weapons I think, but that happens after GoW I, so I guess it doesn't matter because he already had power of hope inside of him.
