If only I had a dollar for every time the line “Even though the deities of Greek mythology are supposed to have golden ichor flowing through their veins.”
I think kratos is able to kill gods in the prequel because of his nature as a demigod, the reason he needed the box is because ares was just too strong for his current state, and the box either gave him a power boost, or it unlocked his true godly potential, or it could possibly have been the journey for the box is what made him strong enough
Just to add two cents here, even though I haven’t played most of the games(cept 1, 2, and bit of GOS) I figured he was able to kill gods because some of his weapons like Zeus’s gauntlet having lots of power behind it.
Kratos was always a good bro he is Zeus son he was born a god he is god of peace but after he kill Aries he became god of war but he could've never gotten he's god of peace power
Greek myth has plenty of examples where a mortal demigod can take out gods with the help of others; that Kratos is usually equipped with divine weapons and armors makes it likely this is how he succeeded. There is also an argument to be made that he hasn't actually destroyed them, as evidenced by Athena just going force ghost and Ares still being alive after the events of GoW, according to his screams in the Easter egg phone number.
The whole common misconception about the Titans being giants is interesting, considering we have a similar misconceptions about the Jotnar from Norse Mythology also being mistaken for giants, and even called as such. But in reality most of the Jotnar were human-sized, with few exceptions.
A lot of people forget Thanatos was also very gentle and he was actually the god of peaceful death specifically not just death his sisters represented violent deaths like murder and things like that
1:01:28 In making Ragnarok, Santa Monica decided to watch that particular video of yours with an all-seeing eye that looks into past, present, and future and said "Bet."
15:18 A thing that I wanna note that you missed is that in Ancient Greece, at least from a source I've seen, killing your family was a MASSIVE taboo, one that the gods took very seriously. So the idea of Ares orchestrating Kratos to kill his family could also be considered inaccurate. Edit: Yes, Hera kinda did the same thing with Heracles, driving him mad temporarily so he'd kill his wife and three children (very messed up). And never smote Medea despite the *copious* amount of familicide she committed (I theorize because it was either to help Jason, or to punish him after he broke his oaths) but in the perspective of Ancient Greecians, she likely gets leeway because marriage and family *is* her domain, so what she says goes. Whereas Ares has no claim in said domain, so I would think this stunt woulda pissed Hera off something fierce. Especially considering no one really likes Ares that much.
Well he wouldn't be the first god to do so. As in the original myth of Heracles, Hera once drove Heracles insane and made him kill his family too, so I'd consider it plausible...
Kratos story is almost identical to Heracles tho. Demi god who kills his family for a god and goes on a journey to repent and becomes famous from it,then dies and earns god hood. Kratos in the gow universe is Heracles in the real myth
Mythology guy didn't mention this in the ghost of Sparta section. But in the parts with Thanatos, he actually does bleed gold/white blood. Now you could say that the white-ish glow could be coming from the blades of Athena, but when KRATOS rips open Thanatos' chest it's glowing golden white.
@@DanialTarkibut why are you MOST disappointed by Helios not having golden blood? I'm pretty sure that every god had golden inchor running through their veins....and the only sort of example we get from god's having golden blood is thanatos as mentioned in the above comment. That being said, it's really amazing how much your channel has grown since this series began with the Disney Hercules video. Glad I subscribed. Keep up the great videos.
Aw, I thought he was doing them in order. That sucks. I guess since he's not actually telling the stories, just pointing out things throughout them it's not too bad.
It would be neat if some of the surviving Greek gods tried hunting down Kratos in the Norse games. I have no clue how Kratos actually managed to hop mythologies, but if he could do it I imagine the other gods could too.
The next game after the Norse games according to rumors is supposed to be either Kratos or Atreus heading to Egyptian Mythology and seeing Kratos or Atreus team-up with Bastet to stop Set and later in a future game Apophis would be awesome. And before those "fans" state Bastet wouldn't make sense as Kratos or Atreus's companion in games set in Egyptian Mythology because she never fought at all aren't familiar with Egyptian Myths as many Egyptian Myths state that Bastet who is more often then not portrayed as the younger sister to Sekhmet the lioness goddess of war, healing who was know for having a nasty psychotic temper, and being a massive alcoholic and the half-sister to Horus is the feline goddess of the sun, the moon, fertility/motherhood, perfume, healing, and protection which means one of Bastet's duties is using her pyrokinetic, and cryokinetic powers in combo with her feline fury, and feline speed and agility to protect innocent mortals from all the threaten them, along with being one of the main protectors of Ra during his nighttime voyages through the underworld, and is depicted as being the one who usually slays Apophis, so yeah Bastet can kick ass and fight if need be. Plus since Bastet in the hieroglyphs depicting her victory over Apophis shows her wielding one or two daggers her moveset could revolve her using her daggers in combination with her pyrokinetic powers, and cryokinetic powers, along with various smoke bombs which we could say she created via her knowledge of perfumes since perfumes was one of her domains, along with various healing abilities. Plus since a lot of the myths portray her and Sekhmet as sisters you can easily use that as a way to have Sekhmet as a tragic villainess and 2-phase boss fight with you playing as Kratos or Atreus in Phase 1 and then playing as Bastet for the 2nd and final phase of the fight with the final QTE of the fight resulting Bastet reluctantly killing her sister something she would feel mournful over since she didn't want to fight her sister to begin with it was just something she had no choice but to do.
@@Lemongrab3370 Yep I've read the comic and part of his journey took him through Egypt where he encountered Zheuti the mythical Egyptian God of Wisdom who was in the form of a baboon who taught Kratos that any chance of escaping his dark past was futile and that he shouldn't make this journey to the lands in north to escape his dark past but make it to find a new home and come to terms and accept his dark past and try to better then he once was.
@@derrickhaggardI’ve heard of that actually and honestly it’d be the most awesome path to take, though the only thing I want is a reason for Kratos to even leave the 9 realms and head to Egypt. It’d be amazing to see that happen, though your idea is the coolest take ever and I hope a similar approach to Bastet is done in the next God Of War game

Phobos and Deimos' drawings are actually sick and i loved that idea of gigantic neon blades and huge labrys. And yet I thought Phobos was only a horse belonging to an Assassin's Creed protagonist.
Just some things I'd like to point out in the Inaccuracies When Kratos climbs out of the underworld in god of war 1, I like to believe he DID have permission from Hades, as we are told earlier on that Hades is actively against what Ares is doing, thus I could see this as a viable reason for Hades to grant Kratos permission to leave the underworld so that he can finish the task the gods set out for him, hence why we also don't encounter Cerberus, since Kratos was given permission, it had no reason to try and stop Kratos. In god of war 2, I believe the reason Hermes doesn't show up to bring Kratos to the underworld is because Hades is already kinda doing that as we speak, so what would be the point in Hermes doing it if Hades is already doing it himself? Plus with how important Kratos was in the story itself it would make sense Hades would want to PERSONALLY collect kratos himself. Also in god of war 2, the barbarian king did state he fought his way THROUGH the guardians of hades...so there WAS a measure of resistance in stopping him...how he got through however...this could be a bit of a stretch, but perhaps after seeing the barbarian kings will to escape, and the solid fact that it was the same barbarian king that almost put Kratos down many years ago, I think it makes sense Hades possibly gave him permission to leave in exchange for him to hunt down Kratos and kill him so that Hades could reclaim his soul again, I know it's a bit of a stretch but hey it would make sense to me Also also in god of war 2, the reason perseus was younger looking than theseus may be because Kratos rode upon the steeds of time...yes this is a VERY VERY big stretch...but possibly the steeds of time took Kratos BACK in time many generations during his search for the fates...again I know it's a stretch but...I don't care just a thought to try and explain a possible reason why so-so happened. Also also also in...basically every game where Kratos kills gods without his god powers, I would like to believe that the blades of chaos(or whichever they're called) are the reason, as they were forged by Ares himself...a god of olympus...therefore it may be possible he made them capable of slaying godly figures themselves...we see Kratos always using them to slay gods in all the games and despite how long it's been their slaying capabilities have not wavered...soooooo...yea?
Also it's established in Ragnarok that the Blades have "primordial fire" in them Like, THE Fire Of Chaos The one that forged the ENTIRE Greek world, INCLUDING Kronos and everything after
I like watching this video as it also enlightens me to the idea of how devs create games and change historical events/Mythos to make a game play and feel better. It’s great how people are able to also reference the inspiration and lore behind the real mythos

I love the videos man! But I have a head cannon about the events in the Greek GOW games. Its a separate timeline to the actual myths and it split when the primordials fought instead of just hung around and that's why this version of Greek myth is different.

"Athena was the one who cursed Medusa!" only in Ovid's version. in the classical greek version, Medusa was... just a monster. She is, after all, one of the Ghorgon SISTERS. Which, imho, precludes the whole "She was a human girl turned into a monster" idea. Since the other ghorgons are never treated as anything but... well... Ghorgosn.

21:36 There was another giant copper robot instead, Talos. I'm surprised that no one talks about Talos though and I don't know why that is.
29:42 in some of the graphic novels and normal novels its shown that the Barbarian king became a servant of Hades, just like how Kratos became a servant of Ares, so Hades probably let him out to face Kratos again

regarding the medusa, aphrodite and athena matter. I know you already know of the different versions of the myth of medusa, in hesiod's she was born as a gorgon and in later ovid's version minverva curses her. should have mentioned both Regardless.. Athena had the behind the scene role in being instrumental in medusa's death. She's basically behind the whole operation behind the scenes in gow1 to make sure kratos is able to kill ares. In GoW1 novel to make sure Kratos is well equipped with weapons and instruments She manipulated Aphrodite to get medusa decapitated by the hands of kratos. So basically aphrodite is commanding kratos, but aphrodite was kinda commanded by Athena.

In god of war ascension, you could argue that the Blades of Chaos could theoretically kill deities. After all Ares made them with a blood oath and grant immense power that according to it function “can slay the wearer enemies” Plus later on Ares state that Kratos was his greatest project and he intended to use him to rule the gods forming a a quo. Not to mention that Kratos is suppose to kill the gods by prophesy too…so maybe Ares gave him one powerful weapon only he can control…which makes me wonder why didn’t he took it away the moment Kratos refused to follow his orders, and it not like he can´t, on the first game we see how he can easily rip them off no problem …heck he did much worse to his own son for far less

@@Nightmare72-e9rwhat???
@@Nightmare72-e9r he is literally a vengeful former god of war who destroyed both Greek and Norse pantheons, what are you talking about?

Much of this video is just myth guy being like “not in real myth but it would be cool if it were”
15:18 A thing that I wanna note that you missed is that in Ancient Greece, at least from a source I've seen, killing your family was a MASSIVE taboo, one that the gods took very seriously.
@@eden4279 Oh, truuuuuuue, I forgot about that one. Greatest hypocrisy ever, the goddess of marriage and family making Heracles kill his family.

I honestly think it’d be an Atreus game as it seems that his story may not be fully finished yet just like Kratos’ and yet I wouldn’t mind seeing Kratos either team up with Anubis or fight him. It’d be amazing to see that happen, though your idea is the coolest take ever and I hope a similar approach to Bastet is done in the next God Of War game

its great that now its all in one video!!! amazing work ! you deserve those views
Just some things I'd like to point out in the Inaccuracies
When Kratos climbs out of the underworld in god of war 1, I like to believe he DID have permission from Hades, as we are told earlier on that Hades is actively against what Ares is doing, thus I could see this as a viable reason for Hades to grant Kratos permission to leave the underworld so that he can finish the task the gods set out for him, hence why we also don't encounter Cerberus, since Kratos was given permission, it had no reason to try and stop Kratos.
Also in god of war 2, the barbarian king did state he fought his way THROUGH the guardians of hades...so there WAS a measure of resistance in stopping him...how he got through however...this could be a bit of a stretch, but perhaps after seeing the barbarian kings will to escape, and the solid fact that it was the same barbarian king that almost put Kratos down many years ago, I think it makes sense Hades possibly gave him permission to leave in exchange for him to hunt down Kratos and kill him so that Hades could reclaim his soul again, I know it's a bit of a stretch but hey it would make sense to me
Also also in god of war 2, the reason perseus was younger looking than theseus may be because Kratos rode upon the steeds of time...yes this is a VERY VERY big stretch...but possibly the steeds of time took Kratos BACK in time many generations during his search for the fates...again I know it's a stretch but...I don't care just a thought to try and explain a possible reason why so-so happened.
If Kratos was taken back in time by steeds then how Perseus knows who Kratos is?
@@КыдырбекНамджунбеков (Like I said, it was a stretch, meaning I don't know everything)
