1:30 Interesting that two of his sons were named after titans. 2:59 I thought that was exactly what Zeus was refering to. 3:14 Well, then by definition it has walls. Pits have walls. Of course, if the walls of a pit fall down, then the things that were in the pit stay in the pit. You just can't remove them, nor put more things there. 14:15 I wouldn't want such job. Not that it is necessary. IIRC, Kronos wasn't against humans, just against Olympians, specifically his direct children. And since it appears that the whole worship thing only applies to Olympians, and Kronos is not an Olympian, he might be able to keep humans alive in spite of the Olympians dying of prayer starvation.
Hold on a second, didn’t they say that when a god does everything connected to them disappears at the beginning of the film? Then when Hephaestus dies shouldn’t the labyrinth and tarturus disappear too?

About the gods losing their powers due to a lack of worship. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong but I was taught that there was a comedic play in ancient Greece wherein it was stated that the offerings of crops and cattle to the gods would appear to those on Olympus as ambrosia. In this story the people got so wealthy and were so well off that no one made anymore offerings to the gods, meaning they wouldn't get any ambrosia and thus they became weaker as time passed. In this story Zeus himself, in his weakened state, would come down as a beggar, knocking on doors and asking for a bite to eat. Truthfully, has been a while since I have been told this and I do not know the title of this play, only remember it being told by a professor at a university in my country in a course on the ancient Greeks. Still, I do like the idea of this play enough to wish it to be true, even if I may be mistaken. Just find it real fun.
So I think another reason everyone tends to think of the titans as gigantic is The fact that kronos was large enough to swallow his children whole and keep them (up to full grown human size) in his stomach until zeus freed them. Not this could just be god magic. But most people aren't going to think of that, they are going to assume he was massive. This would also explain how he was able to be tricked by a rock in a cloth and not instantly see it was a rock and not a baby. If you're human sized and can't tell. you need glasses. if you're a giant and you can't tell, well that makes sense. But also, there's just the fact that titan or titanic are used to convey massive size, just as giant and colossal are. So when most people hear the titans of greek myth. they are probably going to think they are giant. also, correct me if I'm wrong here, but isn't Atlas described as being much larger than Heracles?
I know this will probably asked, but could you please do an analysis of these movies ? Minor point, but any of the gods CAN send people dreams even if they’re not gods of dreams. Athena does this several times in The Odyssey, and Zeus speaks directly through one of Odysseus’ servants at one point. 1:57 - He's got more than a quarter. His grandmother was a descendant of Zeus & Poseidon, too, via Belus, the son of Poseidon & Great-grandson of Zeus. 2:55 - Some versions of Greek Mythology state that Prometheus created man before Rhea gave birth to the first god, Hestia, so it works. Also, Primordial god is a mistranslation. It's Protogenos. There were no gods before Rhea pushed the original 6 out of her womb. 3:03 - No, they didn't. Prometheus created man & He's a titan. 5:15 - False! Ares was most known for wielding *a spear.* It's why the Spartans did it. It's why the symbol for the male gender is a spear & shield, while Aphrodite's mirror is the symbol of the female sex. 6:17 - It could've existed. Do you know how spotty historical records dating back that far are? 18:30 - Bellerophon & Cadmus were alive around the same time as Perseus in Greek Mythology. They were the first generation of heroes, so their myths could've happened during the 10 years between the movies. Perseus was the first hero in Greek myth, but the other 2 were not far behind him.
17:55: Don't forget the History of the Kings of Britain. Yeah, I know that's technically not Greek Mythology, but think about it: -The History of the Kings of Britain starts off sometime after Aeneas escaped Troy. -Diana/Artemis helps Aeneas' descendant, Brutus, find his way to Albion (which, according to the story, eventually becomes Britain) where he fights against the Giants that live there. -King Arthur is supposed to be descended from Brutus, who in turn was descended from Aeneas, who was the son of Aphrodite. Therefore, Arthur is technically descended from the goddess of love (kind of ironic, considering how Arthur's relationships go in the stories).

My question is why Hollywood keeps making Kronos a lava monster. That doesn't match up with either of his domains (The Harvest or Time, depending on the version). This is the second time I've seen this and it is very confusing.
He is a heavenly god like Zeus. His only elemental power described is actually Ice (it is discribed in a passage in Nonus Dionysiaca that he threw ice spears against Zeus). Ironic how the god that can throw ice at people is portreyd as a lava monster.

16:18 I'd like to argue with this bit. Several myths suggest that titans actually were gigantic or at least could change their size. Kronos had 5 of his children live and grow to full body size in his stomach which suggests he was very big. Oceanus is the titan that was mentioned as both person and the ocean, needless to say, ocean is pretty 4king big. Homer states that Oceanus bounds the Earth. The Metamorphoses has a myth about Perseus who uses head of Medusa against titan Atlas. While humans affected by Medusa's gaze turn to stone, Atlas became the Atlas Mountains which is the real series of mountains in North Africa. Once again, we talk about enormous size here(yes, I know that Metamorphoses was written by roman poet, but still). And finally, gigantic size was common theme among children of Uranos. Hecatoncheires and the Cyclopes are all gigantic in comparison to humans so it is natural for titans to have similar size.

I can’t believe I didn’t think of that!
@@TheMythologyGuy1 That just raises more questions!
Fun fact: A sequel comic series by Dark Horse to the 1981 movie also called Wrath of the Titans was made. The story was about a revived Calibos attempting to get revenge on Perseus and Andromeda's family

At 6:15 in the video those "6 armed creatures" are actually the Makhai and were just doing some tasks like those chains. When pausing and taking a look at their bodies and arms they're easy to identify especially the helmet too.
I was laughing the whole video almost. It was pure entertainment on how much they got wrong lmao
Very entertaining.

@@MasterZebulin Don’t worry, they’re very infrequently mentioned. Which makes them even more mysterious, especially the likes of Zagreus. For example, in the lost early epic the Alcmeonis, Zagreus was implied to be the supreme god of the underworld. As in, he may have been around _before_ Hades.
Do with that what you will.
If we can give this movie props for anything, it's that the VFX on Kronos is still some of the best I've ever seen, and this came out in 2012. Enormous props to MPC for their work.

I really like the design for the Minotaur in this movie they didn’t go full Bull head + human body. Actually this design for the Minotaur works for me as something that’s a hybrid of an animal and a human would turn out like that but would have several deformities.

No. It's trash.
It was a let down.
His horns being solid 'frozen' hair is neat because hair, horns, antlers, nails and teeth are all made from keratin cells.
Nah it looked weird
“There are no good gods BOY” the crew probably played some GOW in between movies.
Honestly, the scene with the Makhai tearing through soldiers is probably the highlight of the movie.
Let's appreciate how the inside of poseidon was golden. You know why
So I think another reason everyone tends to think of the titans as gigantic is
The fact that kronos was large enough to swallow his children whole and keep them (up to full grown human size) in his stomach until zeus freed them.
Can’t believe this channel is hitting 1 mil subscribers, that’s amazing
I know this will probably asked, but could you please do an analysis of these movies ? While they don't seem to be of great quality, I think the idea of humans slowly deviating from the gods and ending with the death of the gods, leaving the humans to live on their own.

Someone has probably already pointed this out but the lack of acknowledgment or worship towards certain deities was part of the Percy Jackson books. Minor point, but any of the gods CAN send people dreams even if they’re not gods of dreams. Athena does this several times in The Odyssey, and Zeus speaks directly through one of Odysseus’ servants at one point. The Greeks seem to have often spoke of a “a god” putting thoughts and visions into their heads without specifying which god it was.

I heard somewhere that these two movies take place AFTER the Trojan War. Which is a HUGE inaccuracy in itself.

Zagard is the editor of this series and the reference was his idea
17:55: Don't forget the History of the Kings of Britain.
Yeah, I know that's technically not Greek Mythology, but think about it:
-The History of the Kings of Britain starts off sometime after Aeneas escaped Troy.

Here’s a quest to you mythology guy, is a manticore really from Greek mythology?
It originated from Persian mythology
@@DateMasamune1636 I've heard around that actually, the Manticore was from Greek writers and authors and said to live in Persia/India.
@@dariovirga7711interesting
Some greeks travalled the world and would come home and write that other people believed. Some of them described the manticore as a lion with human face and scorpion tail living in Persia. So it appears in these mythological greek books, but as living in Persia not Greece. But a lot of greek mythology monsters lived in other lands not in greece, a lot of them lived in Africa, Middle East, India and north Europe.
Here’s a bigger quest, which mythology did dragons first come from?
Is Io's gravestone a reference to Sam Raimi's Spider-Man? Uncle Ben's said "Beloved Husband and Uncle," just like Io's "Beloved Wife and Mother."
Also, you aren't going to mention the cameo of Bobo the Owl.
Something tells me this film is as accurate as the Percy Jackson movies in terms of mythology.
Well done
My question is why Hollywood keeps making Kronos a lava monster. That doesn't match up with either of his domains (The Harvest or Time, depending on the version). This is the second time I've seen this and it is very confusing.
He is a heavenly god like Zeus. His only elemental power described is actually Ice (it is discribed in a passage in Nonus Dionysiaca that he threw ice spears against Zeus). Ironic how the god that can throw ice at people is portreyd as a lava monster.
bc lava monster big and scary
Come to think of it, Immortals is probably the only Greek mythology movie where the titans are not gigantic and where Hades is not the villain.
Happy, this video was made, thank you!
11:02 you know there can be more than one labyrinth and him building a labyrinth wouldn’t be another inaccuracies additional to him building all of tartarus and all the other things about “the labyrinth is different from the one in the myth” would be no longer inaccuracies, since this can be another labyrinth.
but it has the Minotaur, and there's only one of those, and it was only in one specific maze, making it still an inaccuracy.
I like it how every movie and game that has the Greek gods. Make Poseidon look weak, and die first. He's the second strongest god in the mythology.
Yup, this ending DID suck out 90% of the good stuff from Classical mythology.
PS Anyone going to ask why is Kronos made of lava? He was the King of the Gods, god of harvest, and sometimes god of time. How does that translate into magma?
I didn’t mention that because it can be argued that he merged with the environment of Tartarus during all his time there
@@TheMythologyGuy1 Right, but that just raises more questions.
Even if Tartarus WAS a mechanical structure, Hephaestus isn't NEARLY old enough to be involved with its construction XD

@@TheMythologyGuy1 I’ve only seen the TV show and I heard they changed a few things from the book. While from what I’ve heard they were good changes, the show still had strange pacing and an inconsistent tone. Sometimes the characters just felt off, not in a good way.
@@TheMythologyGuy1 Honestly, despite the shows flaws it’s still one of my favourite takes on mythology. So, I hope you enjoy the book.
