AM I DONE?! | Offroading the Honda Monkey 125 has finally broken me. So what should my next bike be?

- Over the week of riding that I did during our summer of 2022 trip to NY, I realized that the Honda Monkey 125 wasn't going to make the cut as a fun-sized dual sport bike that I tried to make it be. I tried my best to make this bike into something of a swiss army knife playbike, but it's just not designed that way and nothing I do to it is going to make it go through the rough stuff I want to take it through. It's time to retire the Monkey back to life popping around the neighborhood and racetrack paddocks. So what's next?
On this ride I discuss with you my thoughts on what's next for me in terms of bikes. Let me know what you think about some of my target bikes!
After owning like 15 bikes from scramblers to zx6r to my current H2 SX I still consider Monkey one of the best if not THE best (still owning it). Reasons: 1) fun 2) easy 3) safe, does not need air bag or other expensive safety gear 4) speeding (zero tickets) 5) gas & mileage 6) looks 7) on and offroad 8) cheap and little tire wear 9) low mainteance cost 10) low wind noise
We have a pre-production XR150 in house for testing, and it's INCREDIBLE. pretty much full sized, runs 70, and cost $2900.....
No joke about fearing traffic. I'm a bit scared in my truck!!! I found the roads in the video, may throw the Monkey on the hitch carrier and take a trip. It's about 3 hours from where I live, but I don't ride here on Long Island except for around the neighborhood. Thanks for the videos, I really enjoy them.
CRF300L Rally sounds like it would fit the bill
Try a BMW G310GS or a Yamaha XT250 (or TW200); also, KTM 390 Adventure
My Monkey is hella fun on the Dragon. Bring yours to the Smoky Mountain Small Bore Rally in a few weeks
Not sure if you have made any decisions yet but, the CRF 300 L is an outstanding (Do it all bike) I believe JakeTheGardenSnake or DoItWithDan has made it their daily and has gone over various build you can do with that bike!
XR650 is a great bike.
Here’s the link to tail of the dragon:
Don’t forget about the new Honda 150L
Don’t discount the klx300 DS . Good for both on and off road.
Try something like a crf 300 next.
I’ve got a monkey. But also a couple real motorcycles.
A CB300r made into a scrambler.
