I wouldn't see Foreigner again after I saw them. It's not the same especially now that not a single person from the debut album is in the band. It's just a business name now. It should have been like some other classic rock bands that disbanded with the loss of the original members

I have to compliment you for letting Lou Gramm speak freely about what really happened with Foreigner. As I said in another post, it is refreshing to hear the truth and not the public relations angle that we often get. I remember that whole period when Lou had the tumor and how he came back rather quickly but was clearly disabled. Management once again showed little compassion and a ruthless sense of business. Lou was hailed as a "trooper" but this whole ordeal reminds me of the one with Journey and Steve Perry and his hip replacement and Styx and Dennis DeYoung and his health issues around the turn of the century. Critics dubbed many of these bands as "Corporate Rock" in the 80s because of their huge operations and great success. But it sounds like they were also largely run like corporate operations as well. All of us who have worked in corporate settings know how little time they give you for serious health concerns or other personal matters. In the corporate world you are a cog in a machine and must be productive or you must be deleted. I guess it could be said that it was kind that they didn't immediately fire Lou after his surgery but my guess is they did not have a replacement singer immediately available. All these stories that are emerging over time just remind me how unique a band like RUSH truly were in that when one of them endured personal hell they simply stopped and waited and when that person endured cancer then death, they retired the band. That is principled and so very rare in this world. Thank you for this interview John.

I completely agree with Lou Gramm on this matter. It's really disappointing to see the current singer of Foreigner disrespecting Lou Gramm like that. Lou Gramm's contribution to the band, both as a vocalist and a co-writer, cannot be undermined. The new singer should remember his place and that he's not the original voice behind those iconic tracks and should show more respect to the band's history. It's akin to someone filling in for Steven Tyler and then treating him dismissively when he makes a return appearance. This situation reminds me of Ringo Starr's words to the bassist/singer who portrayed Paul McCartney in the original Beatlemania tribute show. Ringo's statement backstage when he met him was, "Hi, but I know the real McCartney". I believe this encapsulates the sentiment here.

Lou is awesome. OMG, what a voice. He and Mick together were dynamite. Their parting is a shame.

I don’t see Foreigner getting into the Hall so it’s a mute point. Don’t get me wrong I would
Love to see Foreigner, Styx, Grand Funk Railroad, Ted Nugent and Jethro Tull get in but the Hall has shown their hatred of 70’s arena rock. Along with Progressive Rock, Southern Rock, Hair Metal and Heavy Metal.

Those memories for Lou are as fresh as yesterday; that is what trauma can do to a person. From betrayal from Mick to their drug ridden selfishness, it is obvious Lou was living in a hell.

Lou Gramm has always been and will always be "The Voice of Foreigner" for me and many others. He is truly a legend in his own time. A year ago my mother had a cancerous brain tumor successfully removed, and we are still not out of the woods because she is still under close observation by her doctors. I pray for her, and for guys like Lou because it is an ongoing ordeal.

I worked for the band, and if Lou says it, IT IS TRUE ALWAYS , HE WAS THE MOST REAL DOWN TO EARTH ,HUMBLE MAN IN ROCK , THE TRUTH SETS HIM FREE FROM THE REST. MAY GOD BLESS HIS HEALTH AND GIVE HIM PEACE WITH HIS DECISIONS, THE OTHER HANG AROUNDS WILL NEVER COME NEAR HIS REALITY. HE DESERVED THE FANS ,AND THE LOVE OF THE FANS OF ALL HIS VOCAL AND WRITING PERFORMANCES . THEY ARE WANNABES DOING HIS SONGS. THE REAL FANS KNOW THE REAL DEAL IS LOU GRAMM, OR ITS JUST A COVER BAND RIDING HIS TALENT , GIVE US REAL OR RETIRE THE BAND THE LEGACY DESERVES RESPECT MR. DIRTY WHITE BOY ,IS LOU GRAMM

This happened to the Moody Blues for a long, long time, but finally made it in. Foreigner should be there. Saw them on their first tour.

I never New that story. Lou along with Steve Perry, had among the very best lead vocals of the last forty plus years. I was at Jones Beach Theater when Lou reunited for a couple of encore song with Foreigner for the first time in many years. I also was at what was going to be a free concert with Lou as a solo artist in my home town when thunder, lightning and heavy rain cancelled it after Lou began singing his first song.

@@beverlymaxwell3556 Foreigner has become a zombie band. Very soon Mick will either retire or die and then the band will continue on as many other bands from the 50s and 60s still do with the money mostly going to Mick Jone's family/estate. Its sad but that is what happens to most of these entities now. The band becomes a Brand and a fund for the legacy of whoever owns the songs or the brand.

Lou Gramm is still alive thanks to the grace of God! He's been through the wringer. Those R&R Hall of Fame guys are insane. Foreigner deserves to be there and in my heart they'll always be number one. They have so much love from the fans so who cares what the petty a-holes do?

Lou Gramm doesn't have to go back he has a solid band with him and he still has the vocals mind not as good as his younger days but nobody expects him to much like Steve Perry it has refined with time. So he could still put out new music and I would buy it. He needs to move past what mick did to him and just put out a kick ass album and have fun with his band. He is an icon a rock and roll legend as far as front men are concerned nobody can beat his hits there are no bad songs by foreigner and his solo was great. Lou please do another solo album.
