Gotta say it's a shame how the White Stripes weren't first ballot inductees. Them as well as Joy Division/New Order and Soundgarden have got to be the top 3.
Foreigner, Fanny, Paul Rodgers, Inxs, Boston. I know you are familiar with Fanny Professor! Fanny was the first female rock band to release an Album on a major label, Reprise Records (1970). They were the first female rock band to tour extensively as well. Their band name is to denote the female spirit. Classic lineup June Millington-lead vocals/lead guitar; Jean Millington-lead vocals, bass; Nickey Barclay- lead vocals, keys;Alice de Buhr-drums, vocals.
Being Canadian, we are dumbfounded that “The Guess Who”, with classics like American Woman and These Eyes by Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman, has been snubbed over and over. Even BTO, (Bachman Turner Overdrive) with one of the most played iconic songs in the history of rock, Taking Care of Business along with numerous other hits. Even Randy Bachman, who was a founding member of The Guess Who and BTO could be inducted into the hall. Finally, my personal favourite Canadian iconic band, The Tragically Hip, with the late frontman, Gord Downie. True Canadian royalty. Come one man, it’s a total disgrace that these rock giants are snubbed and Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson and Harry Belafonte are inducted. Don’t get me wrong, Dolly, Willie and Harry are all ground breaking artists in their own right, but NOT in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.
While I completely agree for all of them. But the Hall of Fame is completely America-centric. So while the Guess Who have a shot, the Hip have no chance of even making the long list for consideration let alone actually getting in.
Motely Crew?? Nothing good after Home Sweet Home!! A horrible band that sucked in all live performances after Dr Feelgood! Everyone has seen the “Miss sang lyrics with fat bloated Neil struggling to sing his own lyrics” !!! He is just a joke at this point! A fat, sissified teddy bear who is just a joke of his former self!! Edit: Only Mick Mars survives as the only true rocker from this band! The only one who stayed true to Rock!!
I've reached the point where I completely and utterly ignore The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They have rendered themselves irrelevant by their own actions, and I don't see how they could ever undo that. Their snubs no longer matter.
I think there needs to be a hall of fame called all things rock Include rock and roll. And all John rose of heavy metal. Do not allow any other genre of music in it like joke. Called the rock roll hall of fame.
That’s because they hate progressive rock. Rush and Yes would still not be inducted had their fans not pressured the R&RHOF for years. It’s a crime Tull isn’t in anything calling itself a rock hall of fame. Jethro Tull is just another in a long list of prog rock bands snubbed by the hall, while more rap, hiphop, pop and even novelty song writers, like Randy Newman have been inducted.
1a. Styx 1b. Boston 2. Toto 3. Foreigner (I don't think they're as great as the next few, but they nailed a ton of massive hits) 4. Blue Oyster Cult 5. Kansas HM: Steppenwolf, Foghat, BTO, Iron Maiden, Motley Crue, B-52s, Ted Nugent, Huey Lewis & News, Robert Palmer, REO Speedwagon
This goes back aways, so people forget, Tommy James and the Shondells. With songs like Crimson and Clover, Crystal Blue Persuasion, Mony Mony, Hanky Panky, Mirage, Draggin' the Line, Sweet Cherry Wine and more. He was one of the original innovators in rock and roll with his song being covered by many popular artist.
My five personal snubs include Jethro Tull, Kansas, ELP, Supertramp, and Blue Oyster Cult. Honorable mentions include Foreigner, Bad Company, Thin Lizzy, Asia, Styx and Psychedelic Furs to name just a few.
@@troytheboy9144 Hip hop or Rap hall of Fame, of course. But rock'n'roll? I don't know, there are plenty of real rock artists who haven't been inducted and did way more for rock music
Never was a fan of Motley Crue, even as a teenager when they were at their peak, I looked at them as overrated, much better bands in the 80s, and bigger bands in the 80s.
it just depends how you look at it. to start a hip hop hall of fame now, after all this time just wouldn’t mean anything, no matter how hard they tried to make it seem like it. but the rock n roll hall of fame has meaning, it’s considered the mecca of musical accomplishment. for that reason- they started to induct hip hop artists as they should i think. cuz to me it’s not so much a rock n roll hall of fame as it is just a musical hall of fame. the best music produced in the modern era all the way to today. so then looking at it from that aspect, how the fck are you gonna leave out the entire hip hop genre when you have such influential artists like eminem, tupac, jay z, lil wayne, dr. dre and kanye. these guys are some of the most influential music artists of all time, not to mention some of the greatest sellling artists of all time too. the rock n roll hall of fame should be renamed to like The Rock n Roll and Various Genres Hall of Fame or some shit. idk, im sure there’s a better name out there but you get my point. but this is just one fan who loves and appreciates all music genres’ humble opinion.
Rush's induction to the Hall of Fame is must viewing. From Neil Peart's subtle swipes (Did he mean to say they've been 'indicted' into the Hall of Fame? Of course he did!) to Alex Lifeson's hilarious pantomime, it is a classic takedown of that institution.
Jethro Tull - A one-of-a-kind band that put out a solid string of albums in the 70s--including a couple chart toppers. Three Dog Night - From 1968 through 1974 these guys were all over the radio, and they were a strong concert draw too. King Crimson - A band that pushed the boundaries of rock music and forged a highly individual path. Grand Funk Railroad - A live powerhouse and musical juggernaut with strong selling albums and a few hits too. Bad Company - Paul Rodgers was in the band. Nuff said.
Boston should be there and Bad Company should be there ...but what is incomprehensible is that Jethro Tull is not in the Rock Hall of Fame, even in music schools and music conservatories JT is considered the most commercial pionering progressive rock band. No other band has the style of Jethro Tull nor ever will
Ronnie James Dio. Period. Co-wrote 3 of the greatest hard rock albums of all time with three different iconic bands. 1975’s Rising by Rainbow, 1980’s Heaven and Hell by Black Sabbath and 1983’s Holy Diver by Dio. The greatest voice in Hard Rock & Metal and one of the most influential musicians in Hard Rock & Metal. This is a no brainer.
You're delusional, living in an echo chamber of self confirmation. Those albums are greater than Who's next and Led Zeppelin I, for example. Totally absurd. The albums you refer to are well produced and performed. Good hard rock/metal albums. Nothing more, nothing less.
Just seeing this. My biggest snub is Emerson Lake and Palmer. Filled stadiums, using the synthesizer as a feature instrument. Karn Evil 9, Lucky Man, Fanfare, From The Beginning. Great songs and the godfathers of prog.
Absolutely. In the 70s, they were arguably the biggest band in the world, selling out stadiums, headlining pop festivals like the California Jam, selling more in a single concert as the sole act than Led Zeppelin, the list goes on and on. As a live act, what they did preceded all the great live acts that copied them. For talent, they dwarfed Rush or any other band, man for man. They were a huge force, but because the rock critics hated them, they were forced into obscurity. It is definitely a shame, particularly after Keith and Greg died. Only Carl Palmer is left...
Kansas, Boston, Asia, Barry Manilow, Michael Stanley (Solo and as his band), Huey Lewis And The News, Bad Company, The Cult, Styx, Little River Band, Stone Temple Pilots, The Monkees, Melissa Manchester, Christopher Cross, Meat Loaf, Foghat, and Air Supply. By the way, Foreigner is now in.
I can't believe Peter Frampton hasn't been inducted, he is truly one of best guitarist. I first saw him in concert when I was 16 in 1978, and have been lucky enough to attend many concerts. He is absolutely AMAZING I finally got to meet him in 2019 during his Farwell tour. A moment I will never forget. Really enjoy the interviews you have done with him.
Very very good point-Frampton’s omission-he is more than a former teen idol, he has tremendous guitar chops. An icon of the mid-Seventies, and he’s not already in? Good job, Disco Hall Of Fame.
I’d have to say that I agree with a lot of those, but the Guess Who not being in the hall is a war crime. I also believe Steppenwolf and Joe Cocker are also big misses and was kinda disappointed they weren’t a mention. As Cocker is credited by many Rock legends as one of there biggest inspirations.
Yes I was going to say something about the guess who how can they have the number one worldwide selling album in 1970 American woman and not be in the Hall of Fame can't believe it
Joe Cocker heads my list of biggest snubs, but reading through the lists on this page there are so many that are much more deserving than a large percentage of those already in. Especially those that I don't consider rockers.
I agree with your snub assessment. Additional snubs such as Rolling Stone magazine keeping Joe Satriani off their top 100 guitarist list is equally as baffling!
Why does everyone overlook STYX? 4 consecutive platinum records and possibly the first power ballad with Lady. Along with Foreigner, Boston, Journey and REO, they defined album rock rock in the 70's & early 80's.
@@ncexnyc4466 changes is definitely a rock ballad from a heavy rock group but not really a power ballad. It doesn't change cadence and rock out like Lady or Come Sail Away from Styx, Stairway to Heaven, Hotel California etc I'd give first rock anthem/power ballad to The Who with Baba O'Riley. It starts soft and turns into an anthemic rock song and released before then all....
I loved it when Steve Miller called them on the carpet for a variety of things several years ago. My respect for Steve went up by about 1,000 % after that
He only advocated for more women, so we got Stevie Nicks a second time, the Go Go's, Pat Benatar and wait for it Dolly Parton who has absolutely no business being in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I do like Steve Miller but his speech didn't help the Hall gain more credibility.
Steve Miller in an interview on Houston Classic rock station said that Led Zepplin wasted their talent! Stairway, Kashmir, Ramble On .., Fill in the list for me Then he claimed to be part of The San Fran sound- The Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver Are you kidding me
What about Three Dog Night? So many classic songs and yet not even a sniff. Sadly we're starting to lose some of these fantastic artists and they may never know if they make it. This one is a screaming shame!
@@mosriteminioncause7741 Nobody says that Disco can't have it's own Hall of Fame. There would be a lot of great artists there. Those songs are classics with great music. The Rock Hall of Fame is a sellout trying to be all things to all people. Maybe they need that to be able to honor true Rock stars, but then again, so many great Rock Stars are ignored and left out.
@@charlesmyers8150 You are right on the money!!! (Disco Has its place, just like any other kind of music) It seems much llike, in the spirit of what you said..The Rock Hall of Fame seems exists for its own purposes and may need to be called "The Everything to Everyone Hall of Popularity."☮💯% 👍
Jethro Tull!!! They have been around for 50+ years, are incredibly innovative, talented and versatile, and in my opinion, Ian Anderson is one of the best, if not the best, songwriter/lyricist in the genre. I was shocked to learn they had not been inducted, and even wrote the “Rock Hall” an email questioning this several years ago. Since then, there have been quite a few questionable “honorees”. Apparently there are many other deserving “snubs” which I was not aware of. Really makes you wonder how they make their selections!
A Triple Bill with Jethro Tull, The Marshall Tucker Band, and Kansas would have a scorching "Power Flute" Jam! Incidentally, Gene Simmons perfectly dismissed the credible existence of The RRHOF a number of years ago...😂😏🎤🎼🎶🎶🎸🎹🥁B.W.
Ian Anderson pissed off the people in the Rock Clique when he suggested he could have written better lyrics for zeppelin than Robert Plant. I'm pretty sure that's why.
How about Kansas? Their depth of songs and musicianship is unparalleled. Kerry’s song writing , Steve and Robby’s vocals. When they were opening for other bands, they blew them off the stage. They were so well rehearsed Brian May said they were so tight they sounded like a recording playing live.
Saw them for the 1st time just before the pandemic. Even with the new singer, it was EPIC. They had a violinist playing on stage and were staying at the same hotel as I was.
Been on one of my "Kansas kicks" recently. Every couple of years I revisit the catalog and am RE-blown away by the sheer musicianship of these guys. Yes, absolutely deserving of RRHOF.
Supertramp is my snub and a half. Breakfast In America and Crime Of The Century are iconic. Pop and progressive rock masterpieces with technical musical brilliance with chord progressions, thematics of the lyricism and incorporation of two opposing vocal styles and ranges. Its a crime of the century they aren't in the hall of fame.
@@jannarkiewicz633 I would tend to agree with you. Despite my earlier comment. The only songs I listen to are off “Crime of the Century” and “Even in the Quietest Moments.” And “Goodbye Stranger “ from “Breakfast……”
Kansas & Styx, hands down. Their skill and their musical creativity & depth, in combination with their commercial success and longevity, makes them no-brainers who should've been in far, far ahead of so many others who've been inducted. Hard to respect the RRHOF without them there . . . . I agree with many of the names others list: Foreigner, Toto, & King Crimson would be my other three. The Crim have never been hitmakers, and while their path has been uniquely their own and their iterations have been seemingly endless, their influence on other groups is massive -- never the "cool kid" band, but the musician's musicians know and respect them highly.
Gotta throw REO into that group - they were as big as STYX in that same time period, in the same style - and definitely bigger than Kansas - not that I disagree with you
I can't understand how *_Reo Speedwagon_* hasn't been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. They've been entertaining audiences since 1966. The comforting vocals and keyboard, contrasting savage, heavy guitar solos somehow worked. The lyrics were relatable, and anyone would find themselves singing along whenever their music plays. Another injustice by the RRHOF.
I'm sure not everyone will agree with me, but I think Jefferson Starship/Starship should get some consideration. I would love if the Professor of Rock could interview Craig Chaquico.
To:@PhantomFilmAustralia I SOO agree!!! REO ruled in th mid to late 70s. AND they are STILL drawing crowds with th "nostalgia for arena rock crowd" people (like me😉). So Rock Hall, WTF?!?! Greetings frm Detroit, Michigan, USA😎
It's amazing that Bob Seger did make it into RRHOF on his last shot at eligibility. Also amazing is that the fans did make a difference in pulling him over the hall bias. It would have been a travesty if he was excluded given the man's life played out like what you'd expect of a rock musician: touring endlessly, album after album until breaking through years after his first, building a following long before the world ever heard of him. Bob's perseverance alone deserves recognition, but his place in the hall almost didn't happen. It just shows to go you that they have misplaced priorities if they have them at all.
Wow. We only shared one. Foreigner. My others: Steppenwolf, Grand Funk Railroad, Three Dog Night, and The Guess Who. I still enjoyed the video. You do a great job, man. Your love for the music shines through on each video.
The Scorpions are the only one you left out that really has influenced many bands that have been playing music for 50 years, and still sound excellent live with 120 million albums sold, what is it going to take? I'm glad you made this though because I definitely would be behind a real rock and roll hall of fame for us fans.
Scores were my top choice also. Saw them in oct 2022 at the Oakland Colosseum. First time I saw them was at the Day on the Green and also Monsters of Rock. Love em. Great live band.
Kansas Supertramp Jethro Tull King Crimson Styx Foreigner Blue Oyster Cult REO Speedwagon And it took forever and a day for Pat Benetar to get in?! Quit calling it the R&R HOF, call it the pop music HOF, or start HOFs for all the various genres( especially prog rock)
Crimson will probably get in fairly soon believe it or not, as they have a small amount of critical and hipster cred. The rest will be a long wait unfortunately :(
"One of the most common criticisms of the hall of fame is that the nomination process is controlled by a small number of individuals who are not themselves musicians, such as founders Jann Wenner and Suzan Evans, and writer Dave Marsh, reflecting their personal tastes rather than public opinion as a whole." - quote from Wikipedia RRHOF article 🤣
BS!.... Typical of today's society to pass the blame. Fact is the R&R Hall of Fame has a LONG HISTORY of accepting and inducting musicians from ALL types of musical backgrounds and GENRES for nearly half a century now. Just because you don't care for Rap music does not mean that artists making music in the genre don't have a place or thst their talent shouldn't be recognized. Unless you're going to call for the removal of artists such as Abba/BB King/The BeeGees/Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind & Fire/ Ray Charles/Otis Redding/Robert Johnson and so many others that I don't have time to even begin to count I suggest people get over this. The bottom line is that the Rock and roll Hall of Fame has basically been a general Music Hall of Fame for ages now and while I agree the name should be changed to reflect the fact that they recognize more genre styles than rock alone I do not agree that has lost its way for found something it has always done. To say it has somehow become politically correct is absurd and an obnoxious and disappointing statement that I can't believe the Professor bothered making. Even if I do agree that these artist listed should have their within the hall. You want the real reason there aren't more rock and rollers being admitted into the Hall of Fame lately? There are people to blame but it's not the Hall of Fame. If y'all want to blame someone. I suggest you look in the mirror because it is the parents of children that failed to pass on the history of rock and roll and the appreciation of playing real instruments to create music using sampling and computer synthesized audio tracks. Blame yourselves for not rushing to the support of Music & Arts program funding in schools with your money but instead throwing piles of money a sports programs and then wonder why kids don't have any appreciation of other types of music. Blame yourselves because it's your faults that rock had fallen out of favor with the youth of today and if unlikely to ever make a strong comeback. It's obvious when you watch a music reaction video on UA-cam and you see the surprise from these kids that someone actually played a real instrument in the song. Something that shouldn't be a surprise to any kid who went to a school with a decent music program. I bet they wouldn't be as surprised if somebody could throw a football though would they? When I was in school and taking part in chorus, band and arts based classes that is where I discovered other types of music such as Mozart, Beethoven, Dixie Land and Blues. If I hadn't had that exposure I would have known only pop music, a bit of country and snippets of rock and roll since I rarely got to see my parents enjoy anything in the way of music since all they had time to do was work and sleep with tiny bits of time they could devote to spending time with us kids. That is because the family unit is fallen apart as well over the years. So yes, there are people to blame for the current state of the music industry. But don't blame the Hall of Fame and don't blame me, after all I don't have any kids but if I did I damn well would teach them better than what y'all have done with yours.
Kansas' resume for the HHHOF - 14 singles in the Billboard 100 including 7 singles in the top 40. 4 Gold albums, 4 Platinum albums including the 4x Platinum "Leftoverture" and 4x Platinum "Point of Know Return", the Platinum "Two for the Show" double live album and Platinum album "Monolith". As a testament to their longevity, Kansas' 2016 studio album "The Prelude Implicit" reached 41 on Billboard.
So many snubs it's hard to pick. Paul Rodgers is probably my number one. Some forgotten bands like Three Dog Night and the Grassroots. Johnny Rivers who also helped start the Monterey pop festival . Boston, Styx, Foreigner REO, just tons of snubs.
Dick Dale- Master musician, brought in the surf genre and played forever Jethro Tull- Bridged the gap between Folk and Rock, had classic hits and were originals George Thorogood & The Destroyers- Probably the hardest rocker ever, wrote big hits and still going strong Foreigner- You said it.. Not even debatable Blood, Sweat and Tears- Another genre bender who melded Jazz and Rock and also had great hits.. Honorable mentions- Boston, Peter Frampton, Three Dog Night, Paul Rogers, Eric Burden, Styx, Emerson, Lake and Palmer and you may not like his politics, but Ted Nugent.. The guy created his own unique sound, was a solid showman, sold a fair number of records, had hits and is still rocking.. If the HOF were only taking saints I think there's a few who would need to surrender their status.. Obviously there are others like Blue Oyster Cult, Bad Company, Golden Earring, Steppenwolf, Uriah Heep and more, but it's clear most of them will never get that honor because as we all know the so called Rock HOF is nothing but a corrupt corporate venture selling hype and political influence in the industry.. They deign to toss a scrap occasionally to keep the sheep happy, but we all know it's a sham and until the people actually get together and create a true Rock Hall of Fame those posers will keep giving us naught but greed and glitter whilst so many of these older Rockers pass on without getting their fair due..
What a great video! My brother who is 15 years older than me gave me Boston's first album in the early 90's. He said I'd love it. He was right. To my brother Paul, long live Rock N Roll!
It’s the David Fricke & Jan Wenner mixtape Hall of Shame!!! Who other than these two idiots award Jethro Tull over Metallica the 1st year that Metal genre is added????
Warren Zevon- truly one of the most underrated songs writers in Rock and roll. If you can write polyvinyl chloride into a song lyric, you deserve a place there
He should be in for "Werewolves of London". That song is dark humor at its finest. Go even deeper and you get songs like "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner" and "Excitable Boy". He took topics that no one else would consider and turned them to gold, ala Rumpelstiltskin!
I honestly never paid any attention to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame... and seeing as how they don't like actual rock music, I've been right to do so. But absolutely thank you, Adam, for giving some serious props to two of my all-time favorite bands -- Iron Maiden and Boston... and heck yes, Paul Rodgers belongs in there.
My biggest snub is Blue Oyster Cult. They didn't have a lot of top hits, but they put out a ton of albums and were one of the earliest heavy metal bands. They influenced SO many artists and headlined several massive tours.
I was surprised by the long list of those not in the RRHOF. No one has mentioned Three Dog Night. Back in the day they were huge with three number 1 hits and 21 songs that charted in the top 40.
The hall of fame had a few serious omissions over the years but they've corrected it: inducted the Faces, Rush, Cheap Trick, Def Leppard, Roxy Music, T Rex. I've listed those bands because that's what a serious omission looks like. Now I see ppl talking about omissions of second rate acts like Foreigner, Kansas, J Geils, Peter Frampton, and freaking Boston, who makes albums every 5 or 10 years. We're at a stage where the hall of fame will have to decide on how many 90s bands to induct, and that is very tricky. There were a lot of great bands who made great work, but never became popular enough to cause great waves. Let's see whether they'll ever induct Husker Du or the Replacements or Sonic Youth.
Quite the truth here. I have been wondering about their total omission from even discussion about the Hall for years. Their twenty-one consecutive Top 40 hits should alone be worthy of induction, or at-least the nomination once in a while. This kind-of success on its own puts them into Beatles / Stones vaunted territory. I think that what hurts them is that nearly all their songs primarily came from outside songwriters in a time when this was largely ending for rock artists; to be "rock" you are expected to write and sing your own material. Also, their songs have not carried over and received the continued regular radio airplay that other top classic bands enjoy; you may hear a song or two periodically but never regularly, regulating them to the inferior "oldies" status. And no one whom talks music ever seems to mention or list them in their discussions of influence or value; I have never heard anyone anywhere ever say, I was influenced by Three Dog Night to sing, play guitar, and start a band, other than maybe a few talking in the early / mid-70s - their heyday. I think that the HofH looks at all of these, but still, though, I feel having a great and indomitable commercial success definitely says something, too, than just having critical success with writers and the opinion-makers. Their contemporary in Grand Funk Railroad are in the same purgatory boat here as Three Dog Night.
I heard one on the 3dn members on a radio show say the 1st. Yr. The hof opened he was told the 3dn would never be in the hof. It's a shame. Boycott the hof!!
You listed my #1 HOF snub, Boston. Three others come to mind right off the top of my head. Three Dog Knight, Peter Frampton and the late great Gordon Lightfoot. Oh, also the late great Eddie Money. All have great resumes. But beyond that everyone of of them still has some kind of cultural relevance today. Great episode today. This is one of my favorite subjects, even though it tends to get my blood boiling. Oh, one more. The Monkeys sold over 75 million records worldwide & are also pop culture icons. Several of their hits have been covered many times & a few still pop up in movies & tv.
Thank You for putting Paul Roger’s in your story! I’ve been an admirer of Paul’s for 50+ years and I was friends with Andy Frazier until he passed. 🎵🎼I played there 20 years ago …. But was put off by the crap they had on display…
My # 1 most aggravating Rock and Roll Hall of Shame snub ? Emerson, Lake & Palmer. - They sold many millions of albums, - They filled giant stadiums all around the world (setting many attendance records in the process), - In 1974, ELP was tied for #1 with Led Zeppelin in the annual readers poll, - And yes, they were trail blazers in the truest sense of the word. And yet the RRHoS refuses to give them the credit that is so badly overdue to them.
That Boston debut album is on a level of it's own, truly among the greatest ever by anyone. Hear most of those songs on the radio daily from then up until current day! LOOOOONG OVERDUE!
Might not be a band like Maiden without Thin Lizzy. Their influence was tremendous. What Robertson and Gorham were playing at their age was mind-blowing. And Phil Lynott, he's just a legendary song writer/vocalist/bass player.
All the bands you mentioned were right on...Iron Maiden being a Metal band, with limited radio play and still being able to sell 130 million albums is absolutely ridiculous! Great songs and musicians, Steve Harris a great song writer, and Bruce is one of the best singers/front men ever....I was happy to see them on your list. The fact they are still around and selling out arenas says something. They cannot keep them out for much longer, not that the band really cares. But it would still nice to recognize them with an overdue induction. They are an Institution to be sure. Up the Irons.....to the Hall they most go!
Procol Harum. They were not just classical rock however "A Whiter Shade of Pale" must have been the most played tune of the last century's second half. Original member Robin Trower alone should be in the R&R HoF.
I'm always wishing that Dublin's own Thin Lizzy would make it in there eventually. To me, they define that twin guitar sound of the '70s and they made so many great songs. Maybe the rock hall can take a year on the forgotten bands and make the whole list for a year these overlooked artists. I'd also like to see Tribe Called Quest get in. They are amazing
Blue Oyster Cult is my pick. Their songs Don’t Fear The Reaper, Godzilla, and Burning For You are still referenced to this day, and not just the cowbell meme. And just like The Replacements, they were the influence for bands too, like Metallica.
BOC were ok. You cant get in just because of a few hits. Thats just my opinion. At least bands like KISS that finally got in, had alot of hits or popular songs. I thought they sucked but at least they had hits and Gene Simmons telling everyone at every turn how great they were. Beauty is in the eye of the bebolder. I mean whos next? Survivor? They had a few hits. Everyone cant get in...........
How anyone can leave Jethro Tull off a list like this is beyond my comprehension. Ian Anderson doesn't care if they get in, and I don't blame him. Martin Barre is one of the most underrated guitarists of all time.
I think Clark and I just became best friends. I have to say…Martin Barre’s virtuosic playing and powerful guitar tone on the track “Minstrel in the Gallery” is simply incredible. Fun fact: The main guitar riff in that song supposedly inspired the one in “Miss America” by Styx.
Sweet. I recently did a deep dive into their music, and was blown away by their huge catalogue of music. They influenced several bands, and they were doing things musically that were a decade ahead of their time. The were criminally underrated, and horribly mismanaged. I will continue to enjoy their music and hope maybe one day the band gets the recognition they deserve.
I sent a letter to the RRHOF and mentioned Sweet and a few others following the death of Steve Priest. Those men could rock!! Andy is the last man standing and touring, keeping Sweet alive. RIP Brian, Mick and Steve
@@lepoetress Sweet are true Rock Legends. In the 70's Sweet had more Hit Singles than ABBA. Observant students of music history will know that Sweet progressed and transitioned from Bubble Gum Pop to Hard Rock from 1970-1979. When I flipped over the 7" vinyl of "Blockbuster" in 1973, I heard a song that would go on to influence all the Glam Hard Rock Hair Bands of the future. The B-side of "Blockbuster" is "Need a Lot of Lovin'" Sweet are an extremely great and important Rock Band.
I gave up on the Rock and roll Hall of Fame a long time ago but hearing this, I'm still in disbelief on how these bands have still not gotten the nod. Including your honorable mentions.
There is now a chance thanks to Jann Wenner's ouster from Rolling Stone and from the RRHOF board. He has been the one who snubbed many of these bands. He has also been accused of being irrelevant and not with the times. The final straw came when he released a collection of past Rolling Stone interviews, and NOT one female or African American artist was included in the book; his misogynist attitude towards female artists like Joni Mitchell caused a public outcry and called for him to step down from the magazine he created and on the board of the RRHOF.
we realize that rrhof is just a private business with what ever $ making agendas they are going after? people seem to think the hall of fame in some holy entity justly inducting the best bands as deserved.2023 · This year’s inductees - , Duran Duran, Eminem, Eurythmics, Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, and Carly Simon ? wtf? hall of fame is a joke
Absolutely right! The Hall is more about the controlling few people and who they think are "cool" and nothing to do the actual music business. Thanks for taking a stand
You know RRHOF is back-asswards when Dolly Parton said she didn’t feel she’d earned her spot, because she didn’t play any Rock - So, she made her” 1st ever Rock album to feel worthy of being an inductee.” Much respect 🫡 for Dolly!
Rock Hall has made an effort to cover everything that influenced the genre of "Rock & Roll" which is a culmination of different genres, so I personally don't mind artists who aren't necessarily considered "Rock." However, Chaka Khan, sorry. I do think the Rock Hall has just become the major labels mainstream rock Hall of Fame. It's almost like the museum fel into the same problem the genre made come the 70s which spawned punk rock. Rock groups became lame, or super glam, and it was all from major labels. Then this whole scene came out which spawned into a tree that is rock today. "Classic" rock doesn't inspire anything today. Punk spawned emo, hardcore, indie, even today's metal is kinda more inspired from punk than say 80s metal. And there's a million sub genres as well. Fast forward to this year, Fat Mike opens the Punk Rock Museum, and they get it. The include a real history of music from the 70s to now. There's bands many don't think of "punk" but totally are in context, and that museum covers those bands even if those bands didn't want to "be in it." Look at the Rock Hall as less a hall of fame and more a mainstream circle jerk much like how Grammys were. (Grammys are dead ever since Kanye peed on his trophy). Rock Hall was a great idea, but has just been taken over by the old major label gatekeepers. Fat Mike's museum for Punk Rock, however, is one for the people, and he even said, they are going to expand and cover bands who aren't considered punk. But that's because people don't know, punk rock has inspired the past 50 years of rock and roll that wasn't mainstream record label bull crap. And that is the plain and honest truth.
@@slashismyhommie8182 yes. Well said! I do agree with your assessment. However, listening to these grievances of some very solid picks, like “Bad Company” it does make sense to pause and want to reason. Why then, use the title of “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame “? Albeit encompassing the influences of Rock.why not then have subcategories ? Or even “ influences of mainstream rock “? I still can’t find any good reason why specific bands have been “snubbed “. What say you of the main influential bands who are not included? Interested in your thoughts.
Agree with every pick. I can never understand why Bad Company is left out of so many “greatest bands” conversations. They put out albums worths of great songs, and had monster hits like: Feel like makin love, Ready for love, rock steady, shooting start, cant get enough, etc!!!
On an episode of "That Metal Show" Eddie Trunk was asked who was worse when it came to how they treated heavy metal acts, The Grammy Awards or the so-called Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. His take, and mine, was that the Hall of Fame was by far the worse of the two. The Grammys so often get it wrong because they're clueless about that kind of music, but the Hall does it on purpose. At least the Grammy have a category for hard rock and metal. The Hall obviously wishes those categories never existed the way they go out of their way to snub bands in that category. I guess they don't get the "Fame" part of their name as they don't really care about what bands have lots of fans. It's all about bands that meet their specific requirements, not the fans.
Hard to limit it to only 5, and not just pick my favorites but bands that I think empirically deserve inductions, even if they aren't something I'm into. But here goes (Alphabetically)... Boston - Hard to deny the songwriting craft, the riffs, the soaring vocals, their place in history DEVO - Forefront of the new wave movement, highly influential King Crimson - So unlike anyone else and yet so many musicians got something from them Slayer - Easy to scoff, but they are unequalled and MANY have tried that level of power, aggression, and speed Weird Al Yankovic - Yeh, I said it. Somehow still relevant in that most acts are honored when he takes the time to highlight them There are about 10 others (including some on the Professor's list) that I'll regret not including and in fact this whole list could be different next time I weigh everyone.
at first I was taken aback by the Weird Al suggestion BUT he is so unique to the music of Rock, I think you've come up with a brilliant suggestion, Well Done.
I'm with you on INXS. One of the few Australian bands that ever had the success to become a household name. They worked really hard to get where they got. And their live concerts were phenomenal. Michael had such a great voice and honest to goodness talent. And, it didn't hurt that he was backed with some great musicians. What is up with their being left out?
Unique sound and oh so funky, while still crafting some really rockin' stuff. Agree about Hutchence, as good a frontman as there is, with a perfect voice for rock and roll! The band were excellent musicians and damn, were they TIGHT!
Great list professor. Here is my list. WAR, Styx, Reo Speedwagon, Boston, and Supertramp. These artists made some of the best music of the 70's and 80's
Thin Lizzy, Iron Maiden, Jethro Tull and Styx are definitely deserving on the body of work they produced over the years. Richie Blackmore (Deep Purple) & Ronnie James Dio (solo & other bands) in Rainbow very deserving artists in their own right as is the amazing vocalist Paul Rodgers from Bad Company & Free. imo
Toto is deserving, based not just on their own body of work, but for the countless Grammy award winning recordings they contributed to throughout the 80s and early 90s. They were literally everywhere.
INXS is by far the greatest overlooked band ever! It is been almost 26 years since Hutch's death and INXS still makes a person dance and sing along. I do not know a person that doesn't love "Never Tear Us Apart" If I ever meet that person, they would be a great psychopath study.
I remember when Michael died. When I heard it I was so stunned. From the late 80s until then they were one of my very favorite bands out. I have never been one for slow or ballad music.- usually hate the stuff. But, Two Worlds Colliding is the exception.
I, too, was stunned when I heard about Hutchence’s passing. So much focus went towards his manner of death & it took away from what he meant to music. I was just a kid at the time & it came about 3 1/2 years after Cobain passed, it made me the poster child for teenage angst & anguish. My fave INXS song is probably “Suicide Blonde” followed closely by “Never Tear Us Apart”, cheesy saxophone & all!
I am not a big fan of The Smiths, but when I think of alternative music I think of The Smiths and the Cure. I even can appreciate how good they were. Can not believe they are not in the HoF.
Kansas once again snubbed. A group of the most talented musicians. Listen to their 1st album, not a list of hits but super impressive music. Leftoverture and Point of Know Return get the most attention but Masque is my favorite. The first 6 -7 albums are incredible.
Me Too! It was at Anaheim Stadium and the opening acts were a new band named Van Halen, Sammy Hagar and Black Sabbath (with Dio). I was 13. Fond memories.
When my kids recognize the songs from my generation, you have something special. Foreigner needs to be in. Mick and Lou formed an unstoppable combination with their power and edge.
Good picks, Adam. The RRHOF lost its way some time ago when they let politics take over. Other notable rock bands who've been passed over include The Guess Who, BTO and Three Dog Night, but as these bands become a distant memory, their chances of induction are rapidly dwindling. A name change for the Hall is definitely in order! Either that, or overhaul the induction criteria. I mean, Dolly Parton? Really? Thanks, Adam.
Im gonna nominate The Guess Who...maybe its the Canadian jinx, but Burton Cummings is one of those instantly recognizable voices - he can go fierce and vitriolic in tunes like American Woman...or sanguine and edgy like in "Shes Come Undone"...the band produced hit after hit after hit...eventually parting ways for solo material, which created another HOF snub...Bachman Turner Overdrive and THAT group replicated the success of TGW...who ultimately reunited snd continue to perform music from all their endeavors. And Burton Cummings voice had remained unchanged and sublime....finally, they are in whatever the Canadian Rock Hall is ..... time for TRRHOF to unsnub The Guess Who✅
Growing up in Jamaica in the late 70’s and 80’s, there was a business program on the radio my dad listened to on the radio while dropping us to school….the theme song for the program? “Taking Care of Business”!!! ❤
I just came across this video from last year, and I could not agree more with your choices! At least one of them is getting in this year (Foreigner), and.. your t-shirt was prophetic with the Dave Matthews Band getting in this year too.. and OZZY!!! YES!!! So excited about that. Now.. we need to make a push for 2025 for Boston AND Paul Rodgers. Not having those 2 in is an absolute CRIME imo.
I'm usually of the belief that these legendary bands and more don't need the hall of fame to cement their iconicness and greatness, but I do agree that it's a topic that gets really heavy in how things are ran as far as the criteria and logic. Cheers as always!
It's not about what the bands need, it's about how the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is defined. If it doesn't include these bands, does it deserve its name?
Paul Rogers is in my top 5 favorite vocalist and the closest to my own voice and style. I’ve even considered putting together a Bad Company tribute band. Bad Company absolutely deserves to be in the rock hall.
Another great Rock-n-Roll band rarely mentioned is NAZARETH. They have a long list of great songs. Not just the Hair of Dog album.✌ R.I.P. Dan McCafferty 🎤
I always liked you PoR. Now I love you. You are absolutely right. These songs saved lives for sure. There is a light that never goes out is an anthem for the marginalized and disaffected. This handsome man, cometary gates, Sheila take a bow, girlfriend in a coma, angel down we go together. All classics. We are simpatico here. Johnny Marr may be the most underrated guitar player of all time. Thank you.
Foreigner, amazing that they are overlooked. Great songs and albums. They, along with with Boston, Eagles, Journey, Fleetwood Mac and CCR were the soundtrack of my youth. Bad Company? Lord, the songs you played here are in HEAVY rotation on the classic Rock station I listen to. Talk about longevity! Damn, what a shame😅. Next? Iron Maiden? You’ve got to be kidding me? Are you sure were talking about the ROCK hall of fame? Who rocks more that Iron Maiden??? And Boston? Boston? One of the GOAT rock albums?!? What did I say earlier? Soundtrack of my youth! Motley Crue! INXS, I saw them in concert. They were explosive! Toto! Toto is a Supergroup! Rock benefited from Toto’s musicians playing on everyone else’s albums (Thriller!). And the Smiths. I can’t argue with your list. Impeccable list. I listened to it all the way thru in one sitting. Boycott the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Watch “The Professor of Rock” (and Rick Beato!) instead!
The biggest problem with the rock n roll hall of fame is Jan Wenner. If he doesn't like you, he will do whatever he has to to block your admission. He personally blocked RUSH for 13 years before they opened up voting to the public. RUSH was so overwhelmingly voted for that even he couldn't block them any longer. Thats only one example of his outsized influence, but there are many more. In his view only blues based rock is the real thing. Progressive rock or heavy metal will never count in his book.
Poll: What are your personal picks for the biggest Rock and Roll Hall of Fame SNUBS?
Jethro Tull, Steppenwolf geez
Gotta say it's a shame how the White Stripes weren't first ballot inductees. Them as well as Joy Division/New Order and Soundgarden have got to be the top 3.
Foreigner
Foreigner, Fanny, Paul Rodgers, Inxs, Boston. I know you are familiar with Fanny Professor!
Fanny was the first female rock band to release an Album on a major label, Reprise Records (1970). They were the first female rock band to tour extensively as well. Their band name is to denote the female spirit. Classic lineup June Millington-lead vocals/lead guitar; Jean Millington-lead vocals, bass; Nickey Barclay- lead vocals, keys;Alice de Buhr-drums, vocals.
Styx - they're so overdue.
I’m an American and I’m shocked The Guess Who aren’t in.
Silly, and sad.
Well said fellow Canadian.
Be happy “you” got Rush in! LOL. I absolutely agree with you.
Chilliwack, Trooper, Loverboy, April Wine, Harlequin, and many more great Canadian bands.
RRHOF is a joke. Being snubbed is an honor.
lol
Being snubbed is never an honor! Those of us that snub the “Hall of Fame”, get it. But it is a travesty overall!
@HeisenbergfammKansas deserves to be there! Much better than Cardi B!!! Megan The Stallion is sexy AF, but her music is a joke!!
I agree
I've reached the point where I completely and utterly ignore The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They have rendered themselves irrelevant by their own actions, and I don't see how they could ever undo that. Their snubs no longer matter.
Totally FKIN Agree !
Just throw them in the 🗑️.
Totally fucking agree! And censorship sucks.
I think there needs to be a hall of fame called all things rock Include rock and roll. And all John rose of heavy metal. Do not allow any other genre of music in it like joke. Called the rock roll hall of fame.
much like the emmys.. all major awards are comprimised.
The fact that Jethro Tull once won an award for “Best Heavy Metal Band” tells us that the people making these kinds of decisions are complete idiots.
FACTS !
Jethro Tull was an awesome rock band but I wouldn't call them heavy metal either
The reality is that NOT being included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a badge of honor!
😂😂😂
I agre. The RnR HOF is a shit show and full of egos and turds
Society honors it's living conformists ,and it's dead troublemakers. Why do you think they inducted Frank Zappa after he was dead?
I agree with all your picks Professor. I would also include The Guess Who, B.T.O, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Scorpions.
Good ones!
You are so right. Great Great list!
No to all your picks
I agree with all of these.
Scorpions for sure. Jeez there been around since the sixties
1a. Styx
1b. Boston
2. Toto
3. Foreigner (I don't think they're as great as the next few, but they nailed a ton of massive hits)
4. Blue Oyster Cult
5. Kansas
HM: Steppenwolf, Foghat, BTO, Iron Maiden, Motley Crue, B-52s, Ted Nugent, Huey Lewis & News, Robert Palmer, REO Speedwagon
Grand Funk, Mountain and Humble Pie .. as well
No disrespect but all those are mostly corny ass candy bands that didn’t inspire or leave a mark on the genre.

Gene Simmons was right you should have bought it and Burn It Down
I literally weep over the fact that Paul Rodgers is so underrated and overlooked.
Look at the list of guitarists that chose Paul Rodgers as their vocalist. Paul Kossoff, Mick Ralphs, Jimmy Page, and Brian May.
I’m with you!
Put Runaways Joan Jett who broke out of obscurity rebirthing The Shondelles
Tommy is playing @ the Golden Nugget in Vega$ 🎶
Have you read his book? What a story.
My five personal snubs include Jethro Tull, Kansas, ELP, Supertramp, and Blue Oyster Cult. Honorable mentions include Foreigner, Bad Company, Thin Lizzy, Asia, Styx and Psychedelic Furs to name just a few.
Definitely Blue Oyster Cult 😅
How bout Badfinger
The a Psychedelic Furs are one of my favorite bands!
It's almost criminal that Jethro Tull, Kansas, and ELP have all been snubbed.
Well, now that Wenner is OUT, maybe that will change.
Completely agree with Supertramp. Their music has held up way better then most of the bands of the 70's. Everyone knows their hits. Young and old.
Not having Iron Maiden, Mötley Crüe, Foreigner or The Smiths, who are all long-time icons, but having Jay-Z, is a crime against humanity.
Jay z has contributed to rock in all fairness. Of all the rappers, he definitely deserved s spot in the hof for his impact
@@troytheboy9144
Hip hop or Rap hall of Fame, of course.
What's a jayzhee??
it just depends how you look at it. to start a hip hop hall of fame now, after all this time just wouldn’t mean anything, no matter how hard they tried to make it seem like it. but the rock n roll hall of fame has meaning, it’s considered the mecca of musical accomplishment. for that reason- they started to induct hip hop artists as they should i think. cuz to me it’s not so much a rock n roll hall of fame as it is just a musical hall of fame. the best music produced in the modern era all the way to today. so then looking at it from that aspect, how the fck are you gonna leave out the entire hip hop genre when you have such influential artists like eminem, tupac, jay z, lil wayne, dr. dre and kanye. these guys are some of the most influential music artists of all time, not to mention some of the greatest sellling artists of all time too. the rock n roll hall of fame should be renamed to like The Rock n Roll and Various Genres Hall of Fame or some shit. idk, im sure there’s a better name out there but you get my point. but this is just one fan who loves and appreciates all music genres’ humble opinion.
Oh, I gotta look that up 😂
I can't stop watching it over and over. Even the guy telling who is being inducted into the hall of fame is a good watch 2013.
Nuff said.
Especially King Crimson
Boston should be there and Bad Company should be there ...but what is incomprehensible is that Jethro Tull is not in the Rock Hall of Fame, even in music schools and music conservatories JT is considered the most commercial pionering progressive rock band. No other band has the style of Jethro Tull nor ever will
@@billolin8027 Ohh YES KIng Crimson.
Yes. Ian has throat cancer, it would be nice for the band to be inducted now.
Agree with King Crimson and Grand Funk...would add Ted Nugent
Ronnie James Dio. Period. Co-wrote 3 of the greatest hard rock albums of all time with three different iconic bands. 1975’s Rising by Rainbow, 1980’s Heaven and Hell by Black Sabbath and 1983’s Holy Diver by Dio. The greatest voice in Hard Rock & Metal and one of the most influential musicians in Hard Rock & Metal. This is a no brainer.
You know Sharon/Ozzy had something to do with it, but he should have gone in with Sabbath the same way Sammy went in with VH.
Agreed
You're delusional, living in an echo chamber of self confirmation. Those albums are greater than Who's next and Led Zeppelin I, for example. Totally absurd. The albums you refer to are well produced and performed. Good hard rock/metal albums. Nothing more, nothing less.
I would add "Mob Rules" in there as well. Ronnie should be in there with Rainbow, Sabbath and DIO.
I definitely agree with RJD. He's one of my picks. 🤘
Just seeing this. My biggest snub is Emerson Lake and Palmer. Filled stadiums, using the synthesizer as a feature instrument. Karn Evil 9, Lucky Man, Fanfare, From The Beginning. Great songs and the godfathers of prog.
Too intellectual but i loved them since Nice...
💯
And don’t forget Greg Lake’s “Father Christmas” which brought the guys together for that song and it’s a classic
ELP. Yes1
This is an interesting list, more interesting than anything the Rock hall does.
I think his politics is blocking him. Politics plays a big deal in nominations.
Very very good point-Frampton’s omission-he is more than a former teen idol, he has tremendous guitar chops. An icon of the mid-Seventies, and he’s not already in? Good job, Disco Hall Of Fame.
Absolutely! You are a lucky to have seen him in his hey day! F. C.A. Is my favourite live album!
That's why Ted Nugent will never get in...
@@robchiappe9253 I got those two mixed up I think.
Amen to that! The Guess Who was an absolute legend!
Wow! I had just assumed all of those were in the hall. It is ludicrous that they're not.
Yes I was going to say something about the guess who how can they have the number one worldwide selling album in 1970 American woman and not be in the Hall of Fame can't believe it
Steppenwolf Had such interesting lyrics about good subjects pumped up with good music. And just kept improving. Couldn't figure out the snub.
Joe Cocker heads my list of biggest snubs, but reading through the lists on this page there are so many that are much more deserving than a large percentage of those already in. Especially those that I don't consider rockers.
1 Grand Funk Railroad. 2. Three Dog Night. 3 Paul Rodgers. 4. The Guess Who. 5. Foreigner
💯
Absolutely. It's astonishing that those exact 5 acts haven't already been in there for over a decade already.
Absolutely. It's astonishing that those exact 5 acts haven't already been in there for over a decade already.
AMEN
agree with everyone on your list!
I think Black Sabbath has Styx beat with the first power ballad by a year with their song Changes, off their Vol IV lp.
@@ncexnyc4466 Ya, you may be right about that!
@@ncexnyc4466 changes is definitely a rock ballad from a heavy rock group but not really a power ballad. It doesn't change cadence and rock out like Lady or Come Sail Away from Styx, Stairway to Heaven, Hotel California etc
I'd give first rock anthem/power ballad to The Who with Baba O'Riley. It starts soft and turns into an anthemic rock song and released before then all....
Because platinum albums doesn't an inductee make & no they didn't defined anything in the 70's & 80's!
I noticed that too. Styx has been eligible since the late 90's. And have quite the lengthy discography of music. More so than Foreigner & Boston...
Stairway, Kashmir, Ramble On ..,
Fill in the list for me
Then he claimed to be part of The San Fran sound- The Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver
Are you kidding me
What about Three Dog Night? So many classic songs and yet not even a sniff. Sadly we're starting to lose some of these fantastic artists and they may never know if they make it. This one is a screaming shame!
They were a great band.
Kings of the 70’s. One hit after another.
The fact that Donna Summers got in years before the Doobies tells you all you need to know about the R&R hall of fame.
tbf - Donna Summer's 'I Feel Love' was a pivotal record in the development of popular music. But it's not very Rock 'n Roll
Yeah, it's not the disco hall of fame.
I was part of the Disco Rebellion......July 12, 1979....Donna Summer inducted....Heresy!!! (She has her place maybe a R.& B. Hero.)
Yes, because of Tull's exclusion, I now call it the "Rock and Roll Hall of Lame." 😧

Ian Anderson pissed off the people in the Rock Clique when he suggested he could have written better lyrics for zeppelin than Robert Plant. I'm pretty sure that's why.
@@peterpitchford6225 Interesting!
How about Kansas? Their depth of songs and musicianship is unparalleled. Kerry’s song writing , Steve and Robby’s vocals. When they were opening for other bands, they blew them off the stage. They were so well rehearsed Brian May said they were so tight they sounded like a recording playing live.
They made some true epics. Dust in the Wind alone should have gotten them in. One of the greatest songs ever.
Absolutely! Kansas is so deserving.
Kansas has to be one of the most screwed over bands in history.

With the passing of Eric Carmen, I've been thinking the Raspberries belong in the RRHOF. Great power pop band from CLEVELAND!
1974's Bad Company is in my top albums of all time, along with Boston's self titled debut. Those two albums are OUTSTANDING
Gotta throw REO into that group - they were as big as STYX in that same time period, in the same style - and definitely bigger than Kansas - not that I disagree with you
Just think of how many people would be in the Hall as members of both King Crimson and Yes.
Styx should have been in a long time ago. Supertramp is even more deserving, in my opinion.
Stynx? You must be kidding!
I've never heard any up and coming band ever cite Kansas or Styx as an influence.
Agreed, I'd also make the case that no one was copying Boston because Boston copied REO Speedwagon!
Kevin Cronin is such a talent as a musician and singer. How they are not in is beyond me.
I'm sure not everyone will agree with me, but I think Jefferson Starship/Starship should get some consideration. I would love if the Professor of Rock could interview Craig Chaquico.
Absolutely
To:@PhantomFilmAustralia
I SOO agree!!!
Like yours better!
Damn right!
The Scorpions 🦂 have new music in every decade since 1972. Still doing worldwide tours. Rudolph and Klaus are 75 years old. ❤
One of my favorites!!!
Saw them on the Savage Amusement tour. They were and are incredible.
Kansas
Supertramp
Jethro Tull
King Crimson
Styx
Foreigner
Blue Oyster Cult
REO Speedwagon
And it took forever and a day for Pat Benetar to get in?!
Quit calling it the R&R HOF, call it the pop music HOF, or start HOFs for all the various genres( especially prog rock)
Blue Oyster Cult were the soundtrack to my teenage years. Such a great band and their still touring!
Excellent list.
Crimson will probably get in fairly soon believe it or not, as they have a small amount of critical and hipster cred. The rest will be a long wait unfortunately :(
It took them forever to get Rush in.
I fell off my chair reading your list. What a joke. RRHOF has become a joke.
They became absolutely irrelevant to me when they started inducting rappers.
You got that right !
And disco and country and pop music.
It will be ok as soon as The Beatles are induced into the Hip-Hop hof😂
rap in rock hall of fame?? Rap is crap ,no talent . Everything is going woke!
5 - Screamin' Jay Hawkins
4 - REO Speedwagon
3 - INXS
2 - Motley Crue
1 & Boston
Dick Dale- Master musician, brought in the surf genre and played forever
Jethro Tull- Bridged the gap between Folk and Rock, had classic hits and were originals
George Thorogood & The Destroyers- Probably the hardest rocker ever, wrote big hits and still going strong
Foreigner- You said it.. Not even debatable
Blood, Sweat and Tears- Another genre bender who melded Jazz and Rock and also had great hits..
I stopped paying attention when they started inducting rappers and pop stars. It's shocking the amount of rock bands that never get a look in.
The institution is in name only.
How about Dolly? She didn't even want to be nominated.
Mfs still alive in 2024 only listening to rock 😂😂😂😂😂😂
What a great video! My brother who is 15 years older than me gave me Boston's first album in the early 90's. He said I'd love it. He was right. To my brother Paul, long live Rock N Roll!
The Guess Who, Styx, Iron Maiden, America, Supertramp, Free, Bad Company, Montrose
They need to stop calling it the Rock and Roll HOF, and start calling it the Music HOF instead.
Most of it is NOT music !
The Rolling Stone Magazine Hall of Fame would be accurate.
Almost!!! Some of the crap they’ve put in there can’t be called music!!!🤮🤮🤮
It’s the David Fricke & Jan Wenner mixtape Hall of Shame!!! Who other than these two idiots award Jethro Tull over Metallica the 1st year that Metal genre is added????
When they allow rap & don't even consider bands like Foreigner, even though they have been eligible for over 20 years, there's something wrong.
Boston and Kansas were the biggest window shakers in cars and trucks in the 70s. At 62 ..I'm cranking it up !
i like that, yeah, window shakers,
Grand Funk Railroad destroyed areas and stadiums. And they sold them out fast too!
Guess he needs to send lawyers, guns, and money to get in😅😅😅
The estate of the late Zevon will send lawyers, guns, and money to argue their case that this was an unfair snub. 😉
I'd throw in Ian Hunter as well
Brucellosis is another one!
This is really a very good list. I agree with all the picks, and with the criticisms of the Rock Hall. Great job!
Boston, Styx, Bachmann Turner Overdrive and REO Speedwagon need to be placed into the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame!
Styx isn't in??? WTF
John Denver, Jim Croce, Christopher Cross
King Crimson, Queens of the Stone Age, Wham!, George Michael
Monkees, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Motorhead, Husker Du, Black Flag
How do you exclude REO
My picks are: Grand Funk Railroad, The Guess Who, Three Dog Night, Styx, Jethro Tull
Not GFR! cheers
Jethro Tull was the first Hard Rock band inducted.
Still pisses me off that Boston isn't in yet
I was wondering if Grand Funk was in. I also posted about Styx.
Those guys have all been snubbed? Wow.
My personal picks: Grand Funk Rail Road, Kansas, ELP, Boston & Supertramp
Supertramp for sure should be in....pure genius...
My biggest snub is Blue Oyster Cult. They didn't have a lot of top hits, but they put out a ton of albums and were one of the earliest heavy metal bands. They influenced SO many artists and headlined several massive tours.
Yes Blue Oyster Cult is also one of my picks as well
Just their 2 big commercial hits makes them better than 90% of the so called HOF.
Robin Trower Frank Marino and mahogany rush Andrew Bachman-Turner Overdrive
That to me is what matters, How has rock performer(s) influenced rock and kept Rock going?
Nah, Blue Oyster Cult has two good songs. Always hated when a band I liked played with them.
I was surprised by the long list of those not in the RRHOF. No one has mentioned Three Dog Night. Back in the day they were huge with three number 1 hits and 21 songs that charted in the top 40.
AGREED!
I saw them in 2001. They still rocked.
I agree with you, but you misspelled Three Dog Night and The Monkees.
Gordon should be in there!
- They sold many millions of albums,
- They filled giant stadiums all around the world (setting many attendance records in the process),
- In 1974, ELP was tied for #1 with Led Zeppelin in the annual readers poll,
- And yes, they were trail blazers in the truest sense of the word.
And yet the RRHoS refuses to give them the credit that is so badly overdue to them.
It's too intellectual for the voters...Prog rock is for the snob for a lot of people. King Crimson too deserve to have a recognition of the RHF.
Agree 100%
And King Crimson.
That Boston debut album is on a level of it's own, truly among the greatest ever by anyone. Hear most of those songs on the radio daily from then up until current day! LOOOOONG OVERDUE!
Styx, REO, Toto, Kansas, Blue Oyster Cult, Foreigner, Iron Maiden. Scorpions, Boston, King Crimson...and so many more...
Might not be a band like Maiden without Thin Lizzy. Their influence was tremendous. What Robertson and Gorham were playing at their age was mind-blowing. And Phil Lynott, he's just a legendary song writer/vocalist/bass player.
I am a huge Lizzy friend ! Good on you for being the first to mention them. Lizzy ! Scorpions and Maiden !
I never understood how Def Leppard got in before Iron Maiden and Judas Priest (who were inducted last year, but still three years after Def Leppard.)
I'm surprised another metal band would even acknowledge being inducted while Maiden aren't in there. Truly ridiculous.
Procol Harum. They were not just classical rock however "A Whiter Shade of Pale" must have been the most played tune of the last century's second half. Original member Robin Trower alone should be in the R&R HoF.
So glad you mentioned INXS. Such a great, underrated band.
Michael Hutchence was a GOD.
Snubs - Bad Company, The Scorpions, Jethro Tull, Three Dog Night, Grand Funk Railroad…
Jethro Tull, Guess Who, SuperTramp, Kansas, Foghat .... Styx, REO, Boston, BTO ...
Yes on foghat
Foghat came from Savoy Brown and they both belong in what I call the rock and roll hall of shame
The Boys are Back in Town on it’s own merits is enough to get my vote. Awesome guitar music.
They had some great musicians
true rnr
They invented the “twin guitar attack”.
Love Phil's version of "Whiskey in the Jar" Great guitar hook as well ! Maybe Eric Bell ?
Blue Oyster Cult is my pick. Their songs Don’t Fear The Reaper, Godzilla, and Burning For You are still referenced to this day, and not just the cowbell meme. And just like The Replacements, they were the influence for bands too, like Metallica.
"Oh no!"
Yes, they sang about drug deals gone bad, bikers, death and science fiction gone mad. A way more sinister act lyrically than most 'metal' that is in.
Geez blue oyster cult and Styx not in. As an iron maiden fan it's worse then I thought and that was pretty bad.
I’m with you there!
Very glad that you mentioned Boston!
How anyone can leave Jethro Tull off a list like this is beyond my comprehension. Ian Anderson doesn't care if they get in, and I don't blame him. Martin Barre is one of the most underrated guitarists of all time.
Ian and the guys will never get in, a travesty truly, but those idiots don't have a clue.
Jethro Tull is so good that their absence from the Rock Hall invalidates the whole experience for me.
Ian Anderson is a prolific genius and the GOAT of front men. Tights, codpiece and flute? No one had more moxy. He's the consummate showman.
Very true, don't forget Jim Morrison with his madness. Too many front men are just strutting peacocks. On final name Roger Chapman of Family.
Sweet was more than pretty rockets, sure, I’m jealous, but I had well more of my share of ladies, though, I still have room for more, decades later
I agree..!! They were amazing.
The B-side of "Blockbuster" is "Need a Lot of Lovin'"
Sweet are an extremely great and important Rock Band.
I was looking for someone else to say Sweet.... I've recently dived into all thier catalog...
She's a nice lady, but it still doesn't make her qualified to be in the HOF
@@carolwood9446 And, to her credit, she knows it. She declined it openly, then grudgingly accepted to be polite I guess.
Dolly Parton is one of the greatest humans to ever live. /mic drop
Rock Hall has made an effort to cover everything that influenced the genre of "Rock & Roll" which is a culmination of different genres, so I personally don't mind artists who aren't necessarily considered "Rock."
However, Chaka Khan, sorry.
There's bands many don't think of "punk" but totally are in context, and that museum covers those bands even if those bands didn't want to "be in it."
Look at the Rock Hall as less a hall of fame and more a mainstream circle jerk much like how Grammys were.
That’s why they call Paul Rodgers…you know it. Bad Company.
I'm glad you mentioned Paul Rogers. One of the Olympians of rock singing, and the voice of so many classic tunes for decades.
Hard to limit it to only 5, and not just pick my favorites but bands that I think empirically deserve inductions, even if they aren't something I'm into. But here goes (Alphabetically)...
Boston - Hard to deny the songwriting craft, the riffs, the soaring vocals, their place in history
DEVO - Forefront of the new wave movement, highly influential
King Crimson - So unlike anyone else and yet so many musicians got something from them
Slayer - Easy to scoff, but they are unequalled and MANY have tried that level of power, aggression, and speed
Weird Al Yankovic - Yeh, I said it. Somehow still relevant in that most acts are honored when he takes the time to highlight them
There are about 10 others (including some on the Professor's list) that I'll regret not including and in fact this whole list could be different next time I weigh everyone.
at first I was taken aback by the Weird Al suggestion BUT he is so unique to the music of Rock, I think you've come up with a brilliant suggestion, Well Done.
Weird Al.
Interesting list. As for Weird Al, there has always been humor in music, and nobody is more noted for humorous songs than him.
WOW. Y'know.... now that you mention it. Yeah. Yes! Weird Al Yankovic. Definitely. See him live, that band of his is killer.
Rainbow, Thin Lizzy, Jethro Tull, Iron Maiden, Styx and Bad Company!!!
Styx…just wow.
Thin Lizzy, Iron Maiden, Jethro Tull and Styx are definitely deserving on the body of work they produced over the years. Richie Blackmore (Deep Purple) & Ronnie James Dio (solo & other bands) in Rainbow very deserving artists in their own right as is the amazing vocalist Paul Rodgers from Bad Company & Free. imo
The Scorpions and Motley Crue
Toto is deserving, based not just on their own body of work, but for the countless Grammy award winning recordings they contributed to throughout the 80s and early 90s. They were literally everywhere.
Steve Lukather deserves his own museum!
For sure and they're still grinding it out on the road today.
Musical Excellence would be a better fit since as you said: Contributed to a lot of records by famous artists back in the 80's & 90's.
@@Pait728 And getting better with age, IMO
@@jwprimetime9795 Amen to that!
I only know them from ""New Sensation, but when I first heard that song playing, it got my attention like a lightning bolt. Great sound.
Likely an Adelaide Crows supporter. Fair overlap between them and psychopaths but maybe not 100%.
I can't agree with you more about INXS. I saw them live numerous times. They are phenomenal.
I agree masque is also my favorite Icarus is one of my favorite all time songs.
I saw Boston on their debut tour and they blew us all away! It's a shame how underrated they are!!
Me Too! It was at Anaheim Stadium and the opening acts were a new band named Van Halen, Sammy Hagar and Black Sabbath (with Dio). I was 13. Fond memories.
Nah, not really underrated, everyone loves Boston
I saw Boston a few yrs ago and they were awesome. More than a feeling, Amanda.
Can't be underrated only overrated.
They had such a unique sound you knew right away who you were listening to no questions asked.
When my kids recognize the songs from my generation, you have something special. Foreigner needs to be in. Mick and Lou formed an unstoppable combination with their power and edge.
My 5 snubs are Jethro Tull, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Kansas, Scorpions & Uriah Heep.
Emerson Lake and Palmer.
Also Kansas, Steppenwolf, and Blue Öyster Cult, Tull, GFR ....there are many landmark bands who have been snubbed.
The Hall is woke. There, I said it. Rap has no place in the hall.
I've got some Three Dog Night on my iPhone playlist.
POCO
@@crkmt TDN and Grand Funk RR made the early 70’s so exciting!💕 Although I love Dolly and her music, she definitely is not a Rock artist!
They inducted Dolly AGAINST her wishes.
And Burton Cummings voice had remained unchanged and sublime....finally, they are in whatever the Canadian Rock Hall is ..... time for TRRHOF to unsnub The Guess Who✅
Burton and Randy are some of the greatest voices ever in rock history.
Randy is a great guitar player & songwriter, but a vocalist, I don't think so
@@donjohnson9688 but Fred Turner was awesome. His vocals on Let It Ride live sounded just as good as the recording.
Triumph is right up there with BTO….
Total crime!!!
I'm usually of the belief that these legendary bands and more don't need the hall of fame to cement their iconicness and greatness, but I do agree that it's a topic that gets really heavy in how things are ran as far as the criteria and logic. Cheers as always!
Good call RC32. Who's your biggest snub?
@@ProfessorofRock That is a good question! Not really sure I can pin it on one band, as I think they should all be inducted by this point!
It's not about what the bands need, it's about how the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is defined. If it doesn't include these bands, does it deserve its name?
You’re not wrong. Some of these bands are too good for the Hall of Shame.
Totally agree, the current Hall has lost all its luster. No longer prestigious.
Paul Rogers is in my top 5 favorite vocalist and the closest to my own voice and style. I’ve even considered putting together a Bad Company tribute band.
Bad Company absolutely deserves to be in the rock hall.
Paul spells his last name "RODGERS"
So does Free
FREE should be in the rock and roll hall of fame
Another great Rock-n-Roll band rarely mentioned is NAZARETH.
They have a long list of great songs.
Not just the Hair of Dog album.✌
R.I.P. Dan McCafferty 🎤
Dan’s voice on Love Hurts is powerful enough to break a wall.
And R.I.P. Manny Charlton.
Razamnaz. Broken Down Angel, and a great song from the Heavy Metal soundtrack Crazy (a suitable case for treatment)
I always liked you PoR. Now I love you. You are absolutely right. These songs saved lives for sure.
There is a light that never goes out is an anthem for the marginalized and disaffected. This handsome man, cometary gates,
Sheila take a bow, girlfriend in a coma, angel down we go together.
STYX, Foreigner, Toto, & Kansas amongst many others not being in the R&R HoF is a travesty...
Might be the best list, along with Boston!
You are 100% correct. He’s a menace.
The snubbing of Rush was unforgivable. Don't even get me started on Black Sabbath. They should have been inducted the year after Led Zep went in.
Wenner is basically judging these bands based on politics. It’s like corrupt government scandals.
Nailed it
Jann Wenner is literally the reason Warren Zevon isn't in the H.O.F. Wenner dislikes Zevon - only God knows why.
Also MIA: Paul Revere & The Raiders, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, The Greg Kihn Band and Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes
