Yep, I just saw them Friday in Seattle, was my sixth time seeing them an 38yrs after the first time I saw them. The first time I saw them was their second time playing in Seattle an only three months after Cliff had passed. Back then they were pretty big, there was 5 or 6k fans at that show in support of Master Of Puppets. They were big but still very much underground an niche. Then, I never would have guessed they'd grow to be as big as they have become. An that honestly is the only reason I went on Friday, I wanted to see what they've grown to be. An I did, they filled up an NFL stadium. Not an empty seat there that I could see, there had to be over 70k there an they did it twice. It's unreal how big they've become.....

Cliff was actually almost as good as Jason (watch some performances with him, his last DIEEEEEEEEEE during every Creeping Death performance is sick), but yeah, Jason was the best at backup vocals. Both were light years ahead of Rob and Kirk (the current setup) though. Ugh, Rob always sounds like he messes up the lines, and Kirk's voice is too high.

EDIT: My comment was based upon the And Justice For All album that Lars had the bass pretty much removed from every song. Wow, I found this surprisingly emotional! Flea's speech was amazing, so poetic. Cliff's dad was so sweet, plus James thanking his family brought a lump to my throat. I also loved that Jason was included, not only in the induction and the speeches but also the performance; I hope it was as healing for them as was for this fan. My favourite moment, though, was James thanking Lars and then the big hug! It made me so happy to see the real love after all their difficulties and pain. Love it!
I've seen them live 236 times I have almost every ticket stub , backstage passes programs and all kinds of souvenirs and they just keep getting better and better all the time

Metallica is the best. I'm from Malaysia. I have been a Metallica fan since 1986 when i was only 12 years old. Imagine how far their music has reached back then. With no internet or whatever. They really rocks.
This is one thing I love about them. They bring people together. People that ordinarily would never meet. People of all races, backgrounds, socioeconomic classes. People who don’t even speak the same language are brought together, even for just a moment because of their music. I have been in countries out of the US and wearing a Metallica shirt or seeing someone in one and every single time I’ve had or I’ve seen small interactions between music fans. Even if they don’t speak the same language it’s clear what they are communicating. Just a point, a smile, a wave. I don’t find a lot of good in humanity anymore but THIS kind of thing gives me hope.

flea's speech conveys EXACTLY how i felt at my introduction to Metallica at 17 yrs old, sitting in my friend's basement playing his bootleg tapes, when "one" came on. my heart stopped. i have never heard anything like it- it was love at first note. That is Metallica. it grabs you at your core and you dont even know why. you finally found what you had needed all along, and from now on, you're going to be ok. they have saved my life in more ways than one, and i will be eternally grateful
“Rock n roll is about possibilities”. That was the sentence that stuck with me since this first got aired. Plus you have to appreciate the fact, that everyone had their speeches prepared. Lars just went for it and killed it.
Seeing Rob and Jason playing bass together is incredible. I know Cliff Burton was Cliff Burton, but for those of us who grew up on 90's Metallica (although I love ALL Metallica) and into the 2000's, those are the two faces of Metallica on bass. LOVE Jason Newsted, and am SO happy they had him perform for this.

I was raised in the Bay Area. Metallica was our band. Mandatory Metallica nights on the radio. Live Metallica jam on KSJO with Jerry Cantrell, Gary Rossington and others. Metallica made the Bay Area exciting with music. Thrash was the Bay Area. They are and will always be the the SF Bay Area musical heros. I have seen them in small clubs, seen them killing it in front of thousands, my favorite was years ago at the Shoreline in Mountain View. I was fortunate to be about 20 feet center stage. Jason Newstead was and is still the best back up vocals Metallica ever had! He brought a whole new depth to the music that is sadly underrated.

I love the fact that they had a bass player induct them and 2 bass players playing live. EDIT: My comment was based upon the And Justice For All album that Lars had the bass pretty much removed from every song. See the video "and justice for Jason" on what the album should have sounded like with bass.

Wow, I found this surprisingly emotional! Flea's speech was amazing, so poetic. Cliff's dad was so sweet, plus James thanking his family brought a lump to my throat. I also loved that Jason was included, not only in the induction and the speeches but also the performance; I hope it was as healing for them as was for this fan. My favourite moment, though, was James thanking Lars and then the big hug! It made me so happy to see the real love after all their difficulties and pain. Love it!
The bond between the two bassist during the performance is just amazing.

Metallica is the best. I'm from Malaysia. I have been a Metallica fan since 1986 when i was only 12 years old. Imagine how far their music has reached back then. With no internet or whatever. They really rocks.
This is one thing I love about them. They bring people together. People that ordinarily would never meet. People of all races, backgrounds, socioeconomic classes. People who don’t even speak the same language are brought together, even for just a moment because of their music.
I have been in countries out of the US and wearing a Metallica shirt or seeing someone in one and every single time I’ve had or I’ve seen small interactions between music fans. Even if they don’t speak the same language it’s clear what they are communicating. Just a point, a smile, a wave.
I don’t find a lot of good in humanity anymore but THIS kind of thing gives me hope.
No matter how old you get. Your kids will always be kids for you. Cliff's dad referred to them as young men. He is a class act! . God bless him and his late son. Hope they reunite in a better place. METALLICA RULES!!!!!

flea's speech conveys EXACTLY how i felt at my introduction to Metallica at 17 yrs old, sitting in my friend's basement playing his bootleg tapes, when "one" came on. my heart stopped. i have never heard anything like it- it was love at first note.
That is Metallica. it grabs you at your core and you dont even know why. you finally found what you had needed all along, and from now on, you're going to be ok. they have saved my life in more ways than one, and i will be eternally grateful

“Rock n roll is about possibilities”. That was the sentence that stuck with me since this first got aired. Plus you have to appreciate the fact, that everyone had their speeches prepared. Lars just went for it and killed it.
Seeing Rob and Jason playing bass together is incredible. I know Cliff Burton was Cliff Burton, but for those of us who grew up on 90's Metallica (although I love ALL Metallica) and into the 2000's, those are the two faces of Metallica on bass. LOVE Jason Newsted, and am SO happy they had him perform for this.

RIP Cliff Burton and condolences to the Burton family for their loss but they will always be in our hearts and forever be a part of Metallica because in life and in death, Cliff has moved so many of us with his talent and passion. Thankyou Jason and Rob for all you have and continue to do for this incredible phenomenon of a band and going above and beyond to ensure that the show must go on for the fans. I was raised in the Bay Area. Metallica was our band. Mandatory Metallica nights on the radio. Live Metallica jam on KSJO with Jerry Cantrell, Gary Rossington and others. Metallica made the Bay Area exciting with music. Thrash was the Bay Area. They are and will always be the the SF Bay Area musical heros.
I have seen them in small clubs, seen them killing it in front of thousands, my favorite was years ago at the Shoreline in Mountain View. I was fortunate to be about 20 feet center stage. They killed it. From the start to the finish. They proved why they are the best of the best. Long live Metallica! Love 72 Seasons! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
