Hey i have a question so u basically took the v8 motor and put the svt supercharger on it? was it just bolt on to the crown vic or did you have to change other things.
This is a Saleen Series 2 supercharger which is basically a Magnuson MP90. The Cobra has an Eaton M112 which is whole different setup. If you're looking to install a Cobra blower on your car, I'd look into the Tork Tech kit. It allows you to run any blower designed to fit on a Cobra.
@@904Saleen well right now i have a v6 i was going to do what you did and put a town car into my car and i was just wondering how supercharging it would work also what other stuff would you upgrade.
I'd look into some of the supercharger kits that are available. Some kits like the Tork Tech will need the separate purchase of other supporting mods, and the blower itself, and require some modification as well. Saleen kits, if they are complete will bolt on directly and just need a tune, but there are some mods to fix some defects I would highly recommend. Another great kit is one from Jonse Speedlab which is basically a modernized version of the Saleen S281-E 2.3L Whipple Kit which comes with everything you need. You can also go the Vortech route too.
Thank you! It’s been a long journey with this car. When I first started it, I didn’t even know how to change the oil. And now I’ve done pretty much everything on this car short of painting it and installing the convertible top.
From what I’ve heard, the truck engines may require a timing cover swap but I’m not entirely sure of that. I do know it will require these same things swapped on to it for it to go in. Someone who has done the swap with a truck motor may be able to chime in on this
I have a 2000 mustang gt with a 02-03 crown Vic engine swapped in it, I was wanting to put a on3 turbo kit on the car. Besides the tubular k member and coil overs will the on3 turbo for the 99-04 mustangs work on the crown Vic motor? Thanks for any help!
Almost forgot some crownvic grandmarquis will require you to keep thier specific accessory belt as the mustangs have an extra idler pulley on the passengerside which the grandmarquis crown vic wont have... this is only on some.. the last crown vic motor i got was a 2011 and it didnt have the pulley but the timing cover did have the spot on the timing cover to swapnit over.. another 2008 grandmarquis 4.6 did not have this location drilled and tapped on the timing cover
Lots of internal differences he neglected to tell you 96- 00 crown vics are NPI engines. They Have Different cyl heads/intake/pistons. Cylinder head ports are much smaller than the later PI. NPI pistons have less of a dish. (more comp) A lot of Old schoolers will take a NPI with block and pair it with PI cyl heads and PI intake for a bump in compression. My personal build is just that, with 11 pounds of boost from a vortech centri blower.
I was covering newer 2vs only just because that’s what most people are likely to find and buy. I do feel that maybe I should’ve covered that. A lot of people are looking for a fast and easy swap, and they are way more likely to get their hands on a 2001 or newer motor. In terms of those PI 2v, there are very few differences
Only the S281 Extreme’s did. They had the same rods and pistons the Terminators had along with a 2.3 Whipple from factory. All other S281’s were stock blocks
Also running the Vic/GM pulleys and belt routing no problem. My car is cammed, FBO, geared, and dyno tuned by lee blankship. I have videos on my channel. I have tubular K member now, but i have stock K member and suspension with GM/ oil pan no prblem. Stock mustang motors mounts too. I even left the cold weather heated pcv cam coverslolol.

Most people in GA from where I'm from had never heard of a Saleen Mustang and there was no internet with UA-cam.. All I had was magazines That read Steve Saleen or Saleen Mustang and to him that was open to interpretation ( His pronunciation left a lot to be desired ) .. Now everytime I see one I say it's a Sayleen Mustang... Lol
Never seen a 2v swap in an S197. Not sure if it's even worth doing or if it's ever been done. On paper the 2v will make more than the 4.0 V6 in the 2005-2010 V6s, but the 3.7 from 2011-14 makes much more power than the 2v.
Ok so I’m looking to swap a 5.4 2v the ford lighting motor without superchargee the triton and I wanna swap in it a s197 it’s an 8 bolt sled plate plan on getting a car without engine or blown engine then swapinf the 5.4 2v swap should it bolt right up if it’s a 8 bolt right ? I don’t wanna mess with a lot just wanna swap the 5.4 2v in so later on I can put a lightning superchargee shouldn’t need new place or harnes or anything just need guidance
Well if you’re swapping it into a 4.6 3v car, so 05-10 the motor should fit in. I’m not 100% sure if coyote cars use the same motor mount system. Your 3v ecu may be able to run the 5.4 2v but I’m not too sure. I know I’ve seen 3v motors run off the 2v ecu with cam phaser lock outs but idk if it can be done the other way around.
Correct me if I’m wrong but I’m very sure Crown Vic’s gms, town cars actually have different cam grinds than the mustang and f150, less hp slightly more torque
The info is spotty but I've heard that before. The F-150 I know for a fact have a different grind, but I believe the panther chassis cars and the Mustangs are the same.
Crown Vic ECU is detuned. But it’s the same EECV ECU in the earlier cars as the 2v mustangs. I think the later crown Vic’s started using a different version of EECV or moved on to the same ECU platform as the 3v mustangs
I don’t know much about the explorers but I’d imagine with those being the older 302 SBF or the 4.0L V6, the process will be more involved if you’re wanting to drop a 4.6 2v in it. If you have a good 302 in it though, there’s some things you can do to give them a decent power bump on a budget too
You can keep your Mustangs ECU and the valve covers don’t need to be changed. I only changed mine because I got a said of trick flow covers that I liked the look of
How easy would this be to do in a SN95. Or if I have a strong stock to valve already by strong I mean decently low mileage and very well maintained would have you better picking up a vortec and putting it on bad motor or doing the engine swap with no boost
The sn95 is a pretty similar process. Just rather than using the Coil on Plugs, you’d use the coil packs with wires. If you trust the motor, then by all means go for it and throw some boost at it
I have a 04 mach 1... will this work for that as well? I was looking at doing a gt 4.6 and swapping tthe heads. I've been told the water jets are different from the cobra and mach 1 to the gr and other 2 valve 4.6. Anyone have any knowledge about this
As far as I'm aware, you should be able to swap the heads and be good to go. The 4v's in the 99-01 Cobras, Mach 1s, Marauders use the same block casting, pistons, and rods as a 2v. The main difference just being the top end. But the motor swap should look roughly the same overall in terms of process, minus swapping the heads/timing if you choose the go that route.
@@904Saleen Just part availability for me rn, wondered if it was possible to use the vic intake but just the shift by wire/accelerator pedal assembly from a manual 2000 mustang. I'd be using the mustang ecu
@@whathuh4446 well you should be able to use the Vic intake, but I’m pretty sure you’re going to have to put on a mustang plenum/throttle body with the drive by cable setup. All 99-04 mustangs are drive by cable
Knock Sensors were removed. The GT's don't support them unfortunately. May be able to get it working if you ditched the ECU for a Holley but that's the only thing I can think of.
It will fit, but I would search for another 4v first. Lincoln Aviators/Navigators/MK8s have them. And the aviator motors are aluminum block and high compression too!
You don't have to. I didn't on mine because they are sometimes a pain to remove. It is a little bit tighter trying to get to it when checking the oil after the motor is dropped in, but not difficult by any means
It can be done, but you'll need the electronics from a 99-04 car along with I believe a different K member. I do know there are some videos and forum posts on swapping 2v and 4v motors into the Foxbody. It seems like a pretty well documented topic.
I’m not sure. I’m not very knowledgeable on the Lincoln LS. I know they are more of a Jaguar based platform than Ford. Someone else in the comments here might know!
NA with simple bolt ons and tuned I’ve seen them make in the 250-280whp range depending on how it was treated and mods. With boost you’re safe to about 450whp
The 4R70W if maintained can be a good transmission. The gearing is just rather long. If you're staying NA, I'd recommend pairing it with some higher gears like 4.10s. If you're going boosted, I wouldn't swap to any gears higher than 3.73s. Just be weary about the overdrive servo failing. It can cause a slip from 3rd to 4th gear. But those transmissions with some cranked up line pressure can shift hard and fast.
The T-45 5spd in 96-00 GT, and the TR-3650 from 2001-2004 GT, along with the T-56 from 2003-2004 Cobra will work with these motors. The 4R70W automatic 4spd will as well
You literally don't have to change oil pan or dip stick if its a panther motor. I have a 1997 GT with a 2008 grand marquis motor. used the stock marquis pan and dip stick. The dip stick is much lower in the engine bay on a mustang but its not a big deal to reach in and pull it out. The intake is the same too except some only had one coolant temp sensor which ran ECU and cluster. I just wired my sn95 to one CTS.
@@904Saleen weird yea it’s Deff shorter and if u put both dipstick tubes in and side by side they don’t sit at the same length and with the Vic pan being deeper and having the shorter tube u would think with the shorter mustang pan and with how far it sticks out it shouldn’t be right so that’s weird it’s reading level
@@The1Perfume must be. I had questioned whether it would work during my swap but found it to be consistently accurate. My motor has seen 3 oil changes since it’s swap and has been right on the dot each time.
@@904Saleen sweet!!! I still wouldn’t trust it, though is like reasoning in Common sence would say it can’t be right because if the crown Vic had a deeper pan and a shorter tube so the dipstick would sit deeper in the pan for correct reading for using a shorter Pam, and still that longer tubes of the dipstick since deeper cant right and I’ve been reading that on some forms to saying, you got a swap, the dipstick tube, and I almost didn’t until I noticed that there are two totally different sizes, but yet the dip sticks are the same so I mean I wouldn’t I wouldn’t do it but your car looks pretty sweet, so do you
Can probably get in the upper 300s to mid 400s with a max effort NA 2v build. I’m sure it can be done if you go high compression, cams, ported heads, oversized valves, E85, full exhaust and a good intake setup
Can't use the crown Vic intake, it aims the wrong direction, also you don't need to swap wire harnesses. Otherwise spot on video.

Just did mine for 600 bucks and got a spare motor that had a blown head gasket with sellable parts 2011 crown Vic flex fuel motor for 635
Being a Chevy guy I have to admit them 5 speed mustangs are fun to drive and sound nasty. Job well done setting the example for pepes tha
Sorry for people not made outta money and arent raised grease monkeys. Bad ass ride
Thank you! It’s been a long journey with this car. When I first started it, I didn’t even know how to change the oil. And now I’ve done pretty much everything on this car short of painting it and installing the convertible top.
I am an oldtimer and I tell getting your feet wet willing to fail and learn listen building some good qualities that goes a long way past cars.
Is the truck engine harder or more expensive
From what I’ve heard, the truck engines may require a timing cover swap but I’m not entirely sure of that. I do know it will require these same things swapped on to it for it to go in. Someone who has done the swap with a truck motor may be able to chime in on this
I have a 2000 mustang gt with a 02-03 crown Vic engine swapped in it, I was wanting to put a on3 turbo kit on the car. Besides the tubular k member and coil overs will the on3 turbo for the 99-04 mustangs work on the crown Vic motor? Thanks for any help!
Yes it will. @MustangLifestyleTV used a Vic motor for his On3 Turbo Bullitt build and that car ran in the high 10s in the quarter mile.
@@904Saleen okay sweet, I’ll have to check them out! Thank you so much for your reply man!
Lots of internal differences he neglected to tell you
96- 00 crown vics are NPI engines.
Why go grab a 2v when u coulda grabbed a 4v 4.6 and started with 305hp and had more strength and options for power later ?
I'm researching doing that in a Thunderbird with a turbo
2v a better built engine
It'll last much longer
Would my normal mustang wire harness fit on the crown Vic motor or do I have to buy a whole new one?
Yes your Mustang harness would work
Will this work exactly the same going into a 3.8 model and what kind of harness would I need to get because I heard you can’t use the 3.8 harness
You'll need to swap a full GT engine harness and ECU into the car for it to work. You may be able to make the V6 body harness work but I'm unsure.
Didn’t the supercharged Saleen motors have forged internals vs a stock mustang motor? If so, he may have been better to fix the old motor.
Only the S281 Extreme’s did. They had the same rods and pistons the Terminators had along with a 2.3 Whipple from factory. All other S281’s were stock blocks
Im having a hard time geting info on what i need to swap in to a foxbody any info or videos would be appreciated.
I got a crown vic donor but my mustang is a v6. What all do i need to swap over other then the motor and obviously the transmission also.
Change out computer and wiring harness. Driveshaft and rear-end
Motor, Trans, Computer, Wiring Harness, Driveshaft, Rear End, K Member, and potentially some other small odds and ends.
Great job young man way to go
Old person has it if the throttle body has a carbon ridge and binds or sticks after 1/4 throttle! 🤪
At 12:08 The man himself I do believe, Steve Saleen.. I knew a guy from California that moved to my neck of the woods in the early 1990's and he called Saleen Mustangs Sayleen Mustangs.. Lol.. I said you mean Saleen Mustangs and he corrected me.. No, Sayleen Mustangs.. I basically had no way to prove him wrong. Lol
I have to ask. How did you manage to get a super charger To fit on the stock intake. Because I believe that is the 4.6. PI UPPER intake
The supercharger’s intake manifold is different from a stock PI manifold. And the whole plenum is done away with for this supercharger as well.
@@904Saleen So what intake are you using?
For that 2011 Crown Vic motor.
thanks for the info bro! is done is running!!
No problem 👍
How do you think the performance would be in a s197 currently have a v6 and looking for more and noticed the Vic engines are pretty cheap
Where did you find a low mileage engine?
There is a guy in Orlando FL who has a ton of them. If i can find his contact info again, I will comment again with it!
Can i do this same swap to my 08 convertable ?
What about transmission?? I enjoy my 5 speed would actually like for it to be a 6 speed eventually
A T56 swap would be the best way to get a 6spd
Does the p71 engine have the same power in your mustang? If so how? Why can't I get that power in the crown vic?
Crown Vic ECU is detuned. But it’s the same EECV ECU in the earlier cars as the 2v mustangs. I think the later crown Vic’s started using a different version of EECV or moved on to the same ECU platform as the 3v mustangs
Thinking about doing this to my 2000 ford explorer
I don’t know much about the explorers but I’d imagine with those being the older 302 SBF or the 4.0L V6, the process will be more involved if you’re wanting to drop a 4.6 2v in it. If you have a good 302 in it though, there’s some things you can do to give them a decent power bump on a budget too
How well does this engine interface with the 4R70W automatic transmission?
Considering all of the Crown Vic engines were paired to 4R70W's I'd say just fine lol. They are a direct bolt on.
what is the mustang is a v6? I need to know asap
I need help, I'm thinking about buying a 2008 crown vic motor with 50,000 miles. What would I need to do about the ecu and value covers.
You can keep your Mustangs ECU and the valve covers don’t need to be changed. I only changed mine because I got a said of trick flow covers that I liked the look of
Thank you
How easy would this be to do in a SN95.
If you trust the motor, then by all means go for it and throw some boost at it
Is a navigator engine a better choice?
I plan on building a 2v stang for drifting and will be using my 06 Crown Vic Romeo. How would I go about converting to drive by wire?!
Are you trying to use the electronic throttle body setup on your Mustang? If so, why? Just curious
2011 p7b crown victoria, they ran out of p71 vins
Can you please tell me what you did with the knock sensors? Can you get a harness that has them to make them work?
Knock Sensors were removed. The GT's don't support them unfortunately. May be able to get it working if you ditched the ECU for a Holley but that's the only thing I can think of.
I'm doing this right now,1997 saleen s281 car #97-0118 installing a 2007 shelby gt500 engine.

I have the 4.6l v8 engine could this still work
Yes

Funny thing is, it does seem to bring the value up
Hi I’m in the 904 area also would love to get some input on my 2010 ford mustang I already did a conversion to the front end
Feel free to send me a message on Instagram! @904Saleen
Is the Crown Vic motor compatible with the 99 Cobra as well?
It will fit, but I would search for another 4v first. Lincoln Aviators/Navigators/MK8s have them. And the aviator motors are aluminum block and high compression too!
When doing the swap do you need to change the dipstick being as you just changed by the oil pan?
You don't have to. I didn't on mine because they are sometimes a pain to remove. It is a little bit tighter trying to get to it when checking the oil after the motor is dropped in, but not difficult by any means
Can I put this motor in my 91 Foxbody let me know. Thanks.
It can be done, but you'll need the electronics from a 99-04 car along with I believe a different K member. I do know there are some videos and forum posts on swapping 2v and 4v motors into the Foxbody. It seems like a pretty well documented topic.
my 97 romeo 4.6 has 500K miles. do i need a swap lol
Hald a million?? That's wild! If she's still running well, I say send it until it's not!
i hope it goes well.
Would this fit in or improve performance in the Lincoln LS?? 🤔
I’m not sure. I’m not very knowledgeable on the Lincoln LS. I know they are more of a Jaguar based platform than Ford. Someone else in the comments here might know!

Great info in this video
Glad you liked it!
How much can the victoria engine make tho?
NA with simple bolt ons and tuned I’ve seen them make in the 250-280whp range depending on how it was treated and mods. With boost you’re safe to about 450whp
Eeeyeeeeeeah 😮
Awesome ride bru
Would it be the same or similar with a 06 or like a gen 1 sn197
Hard to say. Those cars have a few extra steps but I wouldn't recommend swapping a 2v into an S197. Just doesn't make a lot of sense to do
What if you don’t chang the oil pan pickup tube
The Crown Vic pan and pick up will bottom out on the K member cause the pan to get pushed into the pick up tube and starving the engine of oil.
Thank you!
Do you need to change ecus or no?
If you're taking a 4.6 out and putting another in, you won't need to.
@@904Saleen are the 4.6 from the sn95 and the new edge different?
@@Shamard1 96-98 GT 4.6s are the Non-PI motors. They are cheaper, but also make less power. All 99-04 GT 4.6s are PI motors and make around 50hp more.
I just bought a new edge I just want my build to be automatic tho just here for advice and tips
Does the stock transmission work with these engines?
The T-45 5spd in 96-00 GT, and the TR-3650 from 2001-2004 GT, along with the T-56 from 2003-2004 Cobra will work with these motors. The 4R70W automatic 4spd will as well
Do you think that a 97 v6 5 spd could possibly do the job?
If you live in nor cal good luck just finding any 4.6
flex fuel crown vic engine work?
Yes! Only difference with those cars were the flex fuel sensor and ecu.
P71 is a heavey dinosaur but same engine as mustag GT.
You missed one u need the mustang oil dipstick tube the two are totaly different length I just did a 2011 crown Vic flex fuel motor in my 03 gt
I kept the stock Vic dipstick that came with my 2011 motor. It is a little tight in there but it works fine and reads correctly
@@904Saleen the dipsticks are the same length but tubes and pans are different must be a ford miracle lol
