Great video! I wish they will also give an option to NOT split screen but let two people control their characters in a single screen.

Probably will be added after, I wouldn't worry to be honest because they gave us a complete game off the bat with lots of content, if the only thing we complaining about are simple things like this, they did a great job :)
It's absolutely not a 'complete' game from a technical standpoint and as someone who was hyped for this release since buying into early access, this narrative needs to stop. Act 3 is back-to-back setups with little to no payoffs and all kinds of dialogue bugs and incorrect triggers. I did expect some of the trigger issues given the size of the game but it's also massively immersion-breaking.
I've had great (like some of my best ever so please know I truly love this game) moments with this game and really do love its potential but you can even see by this half-baked co-op split screen that they already essentially perfected in D:OS2 that this game needed the extra time in the oven, but needed to outpace Starfield.

Sometimes you want to save really quick before a battle or mid dialog, having the 2nd player drop for a chance to save feels so inconvenient. Still getting this and going to love it though! Nice Drizzt choices btw!
Glad it was helpful! I sooooo agree about the save situation. It’s really kinda annoying to have to have one person quit out just to save and you really do need to save quite often in this game. We were playing last night and lost around 10-15 minutes due to a small issue with the game crashing and because of the save issue we will replay that section today. I just downloaded the game on the ps5 today. Looked up if there was couch coop so me and my gf could play and came across your video. I looked at this video to decide if i will go for PC game (for playing solo) or PS5 to play with my girlfriend. And it's 100% positive after your comments we will go for a big journey together in split screen in the Forgotten Realms. We already played Divinity Original Sin I & II in split screen and it was very good. I'm sure Baldur's Gate 3 will benefit of Larian's experience on those two games from this point of view.

So glad I was able to help you decide! It’s an absolutely amazing game to play together and you will both be very happy. In 99% of cases I think 🤔 both PS5 and PC will run the game identically. I truly think as a PC only player the PS5 is an amazing machine especially for the price. The one thing I would warn about though is the user interface. I plan to make a very detailed guide on this for PS5 players pre launch as no one seems to be converting this and my wife and I play using ps5 controllers. The interface was clearly build from the ground up for mouse and keyboard and there are a lot of tricks you must know to make controller work without major headaches. So definitely subscribe with notifications 🔔 on if you want to see that or my other content that I think might be very relevant to you!

Thank you for the info!! I do have a question though. How does the audio work during cutscenes in splitscreen? Will both players hear everything? Or does each player have individual audio?
The first one into the dialog is voiced, while the second one is silent and just has subtitles. Then when one person ends dialog it switches the audio to the other still in conversation. This can definitely be jarring or funny at times for sure so I’d recommend you stick together and watch one cutscene or dialog at a time for the most part. Hey, great review of the game! Sorry if this was already explained but I have some questions.
1. Does this means that the story NPC's dialogue can only be triggered once? For example player 1 trigger a story cutscene/dialogue without player 2. This means that Player 2 can't trigger that Story dialogue anymore? Or is this true only for when players are 'listening' to the cutscenes?
2. If the player 2 listening to a cutscene, can their stats affecting the result of any choices? Or can they become the one to do the skill check?
No problem! I’m here to help you friend🤗
So the way it works is only one person can speak to any npc, and yes dialogue can only be seen once. It’s up to you playing who talks to the npc but once you’ve talked to them it’s irrevocable. Only the person stats that start the dialogue matter for skill checks however you can get buffs from the in game menus before dice 🎲 rolls from other players. So if you talk to a dwarf but shadowheart has a spell that could help your roll it’ll let you apply it before the roll begins. So basically once you speak to someone whoever has spoken is seen to have talked for the group if that makes sense. Hey there, thanks for your question! The answer is the first is voiced/ has sound while the second just has subtitles. We had this happen several times while playing. So for the best cinematic experience definitely stick together for the most part and “listen” in when someone starts a dialog. Thanks for the video! BTW How do you switch between weapons in combat ? Let’s say you do a ranged attack and then want to switch to your sword for a possible opportunity attack have u figured out how to do it with a controller??
So the way that works is if you have both equipped before combat you choose an action each turn. So you could choose to shoot your bow or attack with your sword. Specially for reaction or opportunity attacks your character will attack automatically when an enemy moves away or you’ll be given a reaction command choice on screen. It’s really easy in game and so you never really have to worry about taking out weapons if that makes sense . I have some Questions I am not sure are answered in the video:
1. Is one copy of the game enough to play split screen or does the 2nd Person have to log into their account with their 2nd copy attached?
2. How do you enter the split-screen mode?
3. Can you play in a 4 persons group with 3 online and one Split? So 3 copies in total? Can you jump into a current 3 party or do you have to start together with the split?
4. Do you need 2 seperate controller-inputs, like USB or is a shared input-devise sufficient, like 2 remote controllers connecting to one USB-Stick?
For context, I don't have any controllers yet, but I am considering to play with my gf, if the split-screen is a viable and fun option. So I can't test the things myself for now and I am hoping you can help with the evaulation of this option.

1. One copy is enough, this game is very respectful of your money 💰!
2. I have another video on my channel called a split screen guide, that steps you through exactly what you are asking in a video format and I think would answer your question perfectly.
3. You can definitely jump into a muti-player game in progress, however you won’t have a custom character and will have to play as one of the companions. I do believe this 3-1 split works but haven’t tested it myself as this is a real edge case I hadn’t thought about.
4. 2 Bluetooth inputs works and that’s what I use. 2 usb inputs also works. I don’t have a usb stick but from what I gathered from the community and other comments it also works as well!
Tldr: it’s great, go buy it and have fun with your gf, my wife and I are playing nightly!😊❤️

Good info here. Doing strong work. Have you seen anywhere (or figured out for yourself) how to switch which player is on the left and right of the screen?
No I haven’t seen that as an option sadly. You can switch which controller but as for the side of the screen I don’t think you can switch that to the best of my knowledge. Really hope you’ll stick around, I just uploaded a Thor Paladin build order guide you might enjoy 😊.
We may just have to move our butts to get on the correct side of the screen. My wife & I have ran into this in other games. 😆

If one of you wants to grind for a bit, can you log on separately for a session? Also - does one person make story choices or does it take in turn ? How would this affect relationships etc
We only play together on this story account. Because there is a set number of encounters in game and no enemies respawn I’m not sure if it’s possible to grind in the traditional sense of the word. As for the story we ask each other before making choices but generally take turns. I really hope you enjoyed the video friend and hopefully 🤞 it was helpful to you.
7:31 if you play Couch Coop can you use your Coop buddy's Skill Check Bonuses like if they're better at CHA Skills Checks and you're better at INT, but you initiated the conversation , and need to Persuade someone - can you let your buddy share his Bonuses or roll
Also can you merge screen in Combat as well?
Or any time during exploration?
Like in DOS2
You can use their skills that effect roles but not their actual stats. So if you have high charisma and want to persuade someone you need to be the one to actually start the dialogue. Hope this helps you and please like 👍🏻 the video and subscribe if you found this helpful 😊, I make videos daily!

If you both did create a custom character: How is the interaction with other NPCs/the world/between each other? Would it be like the second character is morw or less "meaningless" or will it be like that the game responds to the fact that there are 2 custom characters?
Basically each is treated as the “main character”, it all depends on who starts dialogue. So you can take turns or influence each others choices by a voting 🗳️ system in game. In terms of story I haven’t seen any major effects so far. Hope this helps and answers your question! And the interaction of your companions (eg in the camp)? Does it happen only with one character or both (if so: randomly)? Does both chara build relationships with the companions and can that be different (like that one char has a romance with one companion and the other a bad relationship? And can both player-chars create a relationship with each other somehow (espcially if one or both arw origin characters)?
@@robk4693Late reply, but it’s essentially the person who invites that character into the party that gets to interact with them. I haven’t tried interacting with characters in camp yet, though.
@@xTwilightWolvesxit is, until you press esc on PC (I assume start on console) and you click multiplayer, then you can pick who controls which characters which Is a great touch

This was exactly what I'm looking for! Thanks. I used to play co-op and single player games with my partner vut man this pretty much hit e ery spot of how I wish to play rpgs with her. I just have 4 questions:
1. Is there a way of continuing part of the story without one of the players? Let's say I want to make a mission I'm interested for my character in on a time she's busy at work for instance, or viceversa.
2. Is there a way to use the DualSense or Dualshock touchpad as a mouse? I mean that could solve a lot. Would the menu feel cluttered?
3. It sounds silly but is there a way to connect two mouses and two keyboards? 😂
4. In combat mode, I noticed you're watching the same scenario most of the fights. Is there a way to simply expand it as one screen without having it split?

1. Yes this is fully possible, you can drop in/ out at any time.
2. No unfortunately the PS5 touchpad doesn’t work like a mouse in this game .
3. A lot of people have requested this but the developers have said the only way you can play co-op is via 2 controllers on split screen that is.
4. This is one of the single biggest complaints people have and I get this question a lot! The answer is unfortunately no you cannot in combat. The best you can do is have two monitors and put each person’s prospective on one screen a piece. In cutscenes however you can make it full screen on one player’s prospective. Hope this helps!

Sorry, you may have answered this but I didn't hear it. Can you both have single player campaigns going then jump into the other's game D4 style? Or do you set the mode (single or Co-op) at the very start of the game & it's a co-op campaign from beginning to end?
I'm so happy games are implementing couch co-op again. I really hope they keep putting local into more games, especially for games like this. Afterall, D&D is meant to be a shared exp....Also you got a sub for covering this when, for whatever reason no one is discussing how this is going to work on ps5. So glad I have a ps5 bc it looks like the Xbox version may not make it. The devs have it on life support RN, trying to make the Co-op work. Hope we all get it sooner than later....Great Vid.
To answer your question, Yes you absolutely can. The only difference would be you would jump into a set origin character instead of a custom creation if you joined in mid campaign. I totally agree about couch co-op! I was around with halo 1/2 and I miss that experience so so much 💕❤️!

How does the audio work during dialogue? For example, if both players were to have different narrator dialogue at the sam time, would the audio play for only one person? Or if P1's audio is currently playing and P2 initiates dialogue with audio, does it override P1?

Wow thanks for the great break down, I'll be getting this on PS5. I do have a dumb question, can both your character and your wife's character exchange conversation when making a decision for example you want to make decision X and your partner wants to make decision Y. Or if you make decision X and your wifes character may not be into that ( due to character history/oath/etc) will anything like that happen? Or is it whoever engages in conversation makes the decision?

Obviously my wife and I talk about it out of game but we normally go by the rule of who starts the conversation gets to ultimately decide. Maybe turning evesdrop ON in options reduces lag and makes both ppl watch cutscene. Idk i just started playing
Hello, i have some questions: if one player take a path talking with specific NPC's, the other player is connected to that path or he/she can follow other questlines? If one player the next day play alone what happens?
So although you can talk to certain characters while your teammate talks to others you are bound by each others choices to some extent. That means let’s say you steal something then the person you stole from is mad at your whole party not just who stole the item. So yes in most cases the other player is indeed connected to the path you took. If the next day one player plays alone he takes control of the custom character you made and controls the whole party. Very good review. One thing I'm struggling to figure out, and have found very little information on, is if my co-playing partner can at any time enter my solo game and take control of one of the npcs I'll have in my party. Is that possible ? Can you explain a little how exactly this part of selecting the 2nd character works? because I hear many who say that if the 2nd character becomes e.g custom characters, it stays in the party without being able to remove it.
Yes what you asking absolutely works. So the way co-op works is that another person or set of persons (4 people max total) can play the game together. If you don’t make a custom character at the start the other 3 will play as the companions you have with you at the time. So let’s say you have Karlach, Gale, and Shadowheart with your custom made character. Then they will play as each of these characters. If you only have 2 people playing then each person can control 2 characters. Hope this makes sense and helps you! Thanks for the video! What are you playing on? PC? Just taken the mac version: single player supersmooth, with two controllers connected is a mess, like these go in conflict with each other... through steam. Such a sad thing
Yes I do play on the steam version. Thank you so much for your input and kind words. What worked for my wife and I was connecting the controllers directly to the PC. After patch 2 we did have issues like your describing if you used Bluetooth. Not sure what your udon currently to connect your controllers?
Great video! 1 Question to everyone: is custom marker on map bugged by you? I can't place anything and it temporarily freezes the game as well.

This is a godsend I started the game but went off the derp end and kinda messed up the choices for the first act and I plan to do a new playthrough with my gf.

New Nvidia drivers (539.00) specifically for BG3 released two days ago. Did you try split screen co-op since? If so did performance and stability improve?
Yes I did sir, my wife and I just played with the new drivers last night on my EVGA 3080 TI. There are still performance issues and stuttering. I feel it’s about the same or maybe 🤔20% better. The text is incredibly tiny unfortunately. I haven’t found any way to enlarge it and that’s why I suggest if you play co-op to play on a 55 inch screen or larger like a tv.

This must be a controller issue. It always starts in single player but if you hit the X button for ps5 controller or the A button on the Xbox controller the screen should split and the second player should resume control of their custom character. There's a few question I still have.
1) First and foremost, if I start a "couch co-op" campaign, am I locked into the split screen mode when she's not playing?
2) If I can play the co-op campaign solo, what are the implications? Any disadvantages to this as opposed to a single player campaign? Like in terms of NPC interactions/side quests/etc. does having two player-created characters in my party limit me in anyway?
3) is there an alternative option, such as having her jump in on my solo campaign as desired?
4) If the answer to #3 is YES, can she still create her own character or does she simply choose a pre-existing member of my party? If she can create one mid-campaign, is that character locked into my campaign forever?

Hey 👋 friend, let’s answer all of your questions as they are common ones.
1. You are not locked into playing co-op, you take over her character if she is not playing.
2. The only downside or disadvantage is that you may only take 4 people total and 2 of them are now custom player characters that you may not leave at camp ⛺️. Therefore you may only take 2 companions as opposed to 3 in a solo campaign.
3. You can certainly do it like this, but she will take over a companion and not a custom character who can only be created at the start of the game.
4. She is locked 🔒 into one of the companions of the game and isn’t free to make a custom character except at the start of the game.

Did your wife have experience with this type of game? My wife and I usually play games like borderlands and diablo 3. I'm worried that the turn-based combat & movement would be too advanced for her but experiencing the story together would be super fun!
My wife had zero experience with a game like this and she is having a great time. I’d highly recommend it as a couples activity. It’s funny 😄 to watch together as well as there are quite a few adult scenes so it’s definitely geared towards married couples. I really think you won’t regret it and I try my very hardest on this channel to make very beginner friendly guides as I’ve noticed a lot of bigger creators don’t keep it simple to understand and it becomes overwhelming. Hello, I was wondering if you can have multiple game files, eg. one of them is splitscreen Co-Op and another game file one is solo?
Yes! My wife and I have one campaign file together and I have a separate one for solo play/ my Thor build order guide. You can make as many as you want I believe. Definitely check out the Thor guide if you plan on buying the game. I put a lot of work into it and think it’s my best video yet.
Can you play with 1 person in PSVR and the other on the TV?
Ok, but can you play split screen after starting a new game later on? Or does it HAVE to have a second player join at the start?

Do you also have problems with the chests? Our Chests do change and I can't get to my stuff pretty often. We change locations, sometimes we play at my home, sometimes at his. Since you can't share the chests for all players it's pretty annoying if I can't get my stuff I stored. :/
Just a couple of quick questions (if you addressed these, I somehow missed them):
1. If a PC joins the party, who controls them? If they are AI, do you have the option to control them in combat?
2. If you are playing together and one of you decided to play a bit solo (or alternately, you are playing solo and someone decides to join you for a bit) how do the saves work? Do your solo saves carry over to your joint game and vice-versa?

1. You can join in at any time, if you start from the beginning you can make another custom character, if a player joins in multiplayer or split screen later then they take control of one or more of the “companion” characters. There is no AI for companions, you control every move they make or another human player does.
2. The way the saves work is the PC that started the campaign always holds the saves. Everyone else is simply jumping in and out. So you can do part of the game solo/ part in multiplayer, part in co-op.

Yes this is certainly possible, multiple people have said so in the comments. However I haven’t personally been able to test it myself as I do travel work and am currently away from my home office.

I always noticed a graphics drop when playing PS2 games on split screen. But it’s totally worth it, some of my best childhood memories are playing through a game together with a friend.

Does the PS5 version of the game support a combination of both local co-op and online in one campaign? Example: Two players playing on one system and a third player playing on a different system.

Can anyone tell me how to apply guidance and similar spells your partner has on the current roll as you can solo? If she casts it on me, it doesn't apply to the lockpick, conversation, etc. roll I'm currently making.
For Conversation it is done in the roll menu itself, at the very bottom there will be a button to add modifiers
like Guidance. In the lockpick menu it is much the same, as the very bottom of the screen under the dice.
thanks for the tips, i've been running split screen on 2 different monitors, but when theres a cutscene it tries to combine both screens and doesnt work, i was hoping to figure out how to have 2 cutscenes on both sides instead of one split between the two

Hey, how do you manage to play with 2 monitors ?
Im having an issue with my ps4 controllers, it only recognizes one controller on the split screen and the other one doesn't work at all.
I've tried disabling steam inputs, and other troubleshooting but i cant get 2 controllers to work at once. any tips ?
Check if both controllers work independently. I’m guessing it’s a Bluetooth pairing issue. Sometimes my controllers have to be uninstalled or removed from the Bluetooth pair and reinstalled. That’s my guess although I don’t have a ps4 controller myself.
How do you set up the controllers? We’re having issues with the Mac and PS4 controllers 😭
I’m confused I thought that the Mac version of this game wasn’t out yet. For me I had to search Bluetooth on my windows pc and sync the controllers first. Then go to steam and enable big picture mode. After that and turning the controllers on before launching the game it worked the first time . What’s your issue is the controllers not syncing or is the game not recognizing them?

Im having an issue where after we played on plug-in xbox controllers for pc, i tried to play single play mode with a single controller and it detected the controller as 2 and started mirroring the controllers and entered create new character on split screen, idk what to do lol mouse and keyboard hurt my eyes after a while
I have no idea how that could happen, so you only have one controller plugged in and it thinks 🤔 there are two controllers? I honestly don’t know my dude I’m really sorry I haven’t seen anyone say anything like this, or honestly sounds like a bug of some sort with the game/controller interface. Hey maybe you can help me. In the couch co-op of the Xbox version, the names of the players are on the screen on the left above the map, which is very annoying. Do you know how to fix this? I heard that the PS5 version had the same problem.
Same! It's not just you it's the interface for the console UI of the game. Unfortunately despite the game being absolutely amazing the console UI leaves something to be desired. It's amazing this game even plays on a console imo but unquestionably I've heard worse options then anyone on a PC. I wish I knew how to fix this for you but unfortunate without access to mods like the PC I'm not sure that there is any setting you can just change to fix that. I hope overall your enjoying your playthrough and I'll have honor mode based content soon in January.

Sorry just to confirm...if me and my mate buy this game start it together same day creating our custom characters we cannot finish the story together ? So if he always joins my game when we finish the game only i technically have finished it, meaning he gets no story trophies/achievements or story progression nothing ?
And if i can't play cause im busy he can't continue and do side quests or explore alone, then when I come back we just continue the main story?
For example is it like the borderlands games where you do main story together and I (the host) leave to go bed, other players can continue playing side quests leveling up and that not doing story missions, then when I come back we continue the story.
Or is it like we do 10 story missions together I go off-line, does he lose all those 10 missions we did together, so if he wants to go do side missions in his own game while im not there, all those missions we did are gone for him in his game if he decides to play alone...if so that's shit as and we won't be getting it...could anyone please confirm for us

No problem dude I’m here to help you! So basically to answer your question there is one game owner, the person dropping in plays as a custom or companion character but cannot progress or proceed without the main character since that is his campaign. It’s an amazing game and I do recommend it however it’s nothing like borderlands 2 and it’s co-op is really fundamentally different. He would need to start his own game and progress in that or add you and you could play on his campaign from the beginning. However where it’s radically different from borderlands 2 is each playthrough here is massively different. Yes it is possible!
You should try running the game in directX instead of vulkan. I had a ton of unusual performance issues in vulkan that caused a lot of stutters.

@@zachgamingzone I use a 3080 ti paired with an i7-13700k from intel. Things have improved steadily but I still have issues from time to time, especially with controllers or things glitching out. Still great fun and I think you’ll have an awesome time.

What I really want to know is if it's oossible to start a game locally and continue it online or if a local campaign is stuck to local. Like if I start a local co-op campaign with my bro will we be able to continue it after I move far away and we can't meet up in person.

Is it also playable in Splitscreen / Couchcoop on Steamdeck? I mean i know its possible but, does it run well that way? Cause my boyfriend and I wanna play it together, but don‘t have a PlayStation or Gaming PC but a Steamdeck
So I don’t have a steam deck but have a pretty well speced pc and I will tell you that couch co-op is pretty demanding. We will sometimes see slowdown or bugs. I would try but not expect the best experience if your using a steam deck as I feel the experience might be less then optimal. Also I’m not sure how screen wise it would make sense since the steam deck is so small????

There is online multiplayer yes, but it requires one copy of the game for each person playing and isn’t split screen, hopefully that answers your question!

No unfortunately this will not work. Co-op requires you both to use controllers if you want to split screen game.
Can each player controll two characters? From my experience, the host must control three characters, leaving one to the other player.
I think this is a bug currently. My wife and I have both controlled 2 each and the next time we played it was 3 and one. It seems to bug out sometimes and the only way to fix it is to go to camp and dismiss and re-invite the characters you want to bring. It’s kinda frustrating.
@@ThatAnxiousGamerThe fix for this is going to the pause menu and pressing L1 (session, found in the bottom left) to assign characters in the session between players.

Hello sir! I do believe it works with ps4 controllers too! As long as you can plug in or connect the controller via Bluetooth. I personally use the ps5 controller because I like it better but know of people using ps4 controllers as well.
