Depends on if it's an interference or not. Interference will give much damage, non-interference just got to reset the timing.

Looks like the worst possible way to do it you're going to definitely damage valves
This is a example when a worn belt snaps or gets loose over time, the engine will no longer be in sync and pistons wil slam into valves , sometimes even going tru the piston itself costing you thousands just to repair. Lady's and gentlemen, please replace your timing belts or chains every 100k miles or as your owners manual specify.
