Pinocchio can flower again so do not cut the stem- The gardencenter cant wait until that so they sell cheaper- goof for me🤗 Thank you for this great video Nina, im wishig you a great day💐🍀🍀🍀🙏😘
Hi A. 😍💐 that is a great tip to get them cheaper, because they are pretty pricey, yes! The tip about the Pinocchio is also much appreciated, thank you for adding that. I don't have Pinocchio but have seen that it can bloom for a very long time because of the fact that it is a sequential bloomer. Great that you added that into the comments 🫶🏼 and thank you, also, for watching! I appreciate your time and support ❤️🌸
Wow … I fertilize light (once a month around 100 ppm) As I just started on this paph journey I will continue to do so…as you said different environments and growing methods. Thank you for sharing your “mistakes” and what you ah w down to correct it. Hope you are having a wonderful day my friend ⭐️🌸

Matthew!! 🙌🏼🤸🏼♀️🙌🏼 finally... I got a CareCollab together and have you on board! I have been eyeing your channel so long, and our email correspondence was such a long time ago, it feels... I was so happy when you said that you had time to join, and ... thank you so much for being accommodating on the day of the week! I know that you prefer Fridays... I really appreciate your flexibility! I tried for a Friday... it was just not coming together, so, thank you so much!! 🙏🏼🌸
This is what I love about the care collabs. We live relatively close, and yet we grow our orchids so differently! Thank you for the video, and for the invite❤️
Hi! 🥰🤩💐 my thanks go to both of you for your continued interest and support of the CareCollabs! I wish I could put everything into such precise and concise words as you are able to do! 😩 your time watching this video is so very much appreciated. I hope that all is well on your side of the peninsula and that your Christmas preparations are going as planned 🤗🌸
@@NinjaOrchids such nice words!! Thank you so much 😊🥰 we only post once a week while you post everyday. We appreciate that and have no idea how you are able to manage that! We will be spending our Christmas away visiting our family in the islands which is always exciting and maybe we will be able to film something interesting for the channel. We hope your preparations are going well.
Wow, nice collection of ladyslippers. I can understand that you would be careful with light since you are in a hot and sunny area. Mottled leaves would not do well in direct sunlight. But in Canada, it's not too much of a problem in Canada. The sun won't burn in winter if it's far enough from the window or it's shaded by other plants. I agree that they prefer low tds, and lots of flushes especially if there is moss in the mix. I feel like I am walking on hot coals in general when it comes to orchid care. Most of the time they do well, but they surprise me by just skipping blooming and going straight to a new growth...frustrating. Continued success, Nina, and happy growing!
Hi Res!! 😍💐 You are right about the stronger sun here! I am now able to allow the winter sun (afternoon) fall on the mottled leafed ones, and they are ok. But, I do not like that I have to scatter them around in my shelves 😅 sometimes, I am taking care of the group and then realize that ..oooppss... there is one missing! Right now, with my low temps, I am walking on icicles 😅 hoping that I do not have too many losses come spring. It is a little too cold, and for such a long time... I am being more cautious than ever. I may not get the same bloom results as I did last year, because I am bringing my orchids indoors very soon, so they don't get much light. I don't want to risk temperature drop though. Evenutally... we do get blooms, though, so.... there is always that little thing of hope in the back of our minds, right? 🥰 thank you so much for taking the time to come and have a look see at my video. I hope that you are having a beautiful day, Res! 🌸❤️
Thank you for sharing. I have two paphs and one was “jumping” out of the pot. I was a bit scared to repot but I did today. Lots of roots and three strong root tips, very happy with that. Looking forward to watching more of your videos. Hervey Bay Queensland here .
Ngarie, hi! 🥰💐 thank YOU for watching and for your feedback on this video, Ngarie! So very much appreciated 🙏🏼 wow... the description of that root system 🙌🏼🥳🙌🏼 awesome!! Love it! I hope that you have yourself a great Tuesday, Ngarie!! Roo roo to Queensland 🦘🤩🤩🌸
@@NinjaOrchids I am hoping you can help me. I have air holes on the side of the pot for my paphs and someone had mentioned that if the roots feel the air they stop growing??? Never heard of such, I assumed if in media they will be fine.
They will not stop growing if the feel air, but, if they are allowed to dry out, while they are outside of the pot, growing through the holes, then yes, they will dry out relatively quickly, so that would be something you need to make sure that it doesn't happen. If you have the pot in a decorative container, then you can always leave some water at the bottom to avoid any roots escaping the pot from drying out 👍🏼 slipper orchids are semi terrestrial... the roots need something around them all the time, either media or water and they will grow happily. Mine are in constant water retentive media and absolutely loving it 🙏🏼
Hi Desire 😍💐 thank you for going back to watch this video, I hope that it helped answer questions and give you a head start on successful slipper growing, jumping through the hoops without making my mistakes 🤗 ua-cam.com/video/uM9yKHZlBWE/v-deo.html this is the video where I repotted the delenatii, and I explain what I do and why I do it. You can see how the roots are performing as well. And this is the video of the same orchid in an update ua-cam.com/video/uM9yKHZlBWE/v-deo.html Have a wonderful rest of your evening 🥰🌸
Oh my, I am so happy to land on this fantastic video! I don't have Paphs yet, cuz they are "slow growers", (I know my temperment, and in my newness, NEED to feel success and some confidence in growing and blooming orchids in order for me to bite deeply into this hobby.) so I choose to avoid the Paphs... for now... and have a few Phrag hybrids. I especially appreciated you talking about your "low" fertilizing and Kelpmax regime. Last year, I was over fertilizing AND fertilizing to frequently causing leaf tip burn and buds to die. Oh my lanta! 😱 I checked my ppm for Kelpmax and found the solution lower than your rate. Mine only came to about 25ppm so I bumped it up to 40ppm since it was Phrag care today anywho. I feel super happy to add Kelpmax more frequently than once per month knowing I am benefiting the Phrag. in a gentle and conducive way. Thanks so much Nina! Have a blessed day! 🙏😊❤️ Ps: I can't remember if you flushed after the Kelpmax soak?
HI Robi 😍💐 woohoo!! You enjoyed this video 🙌🏼👍🏼 thank YOU for watching it, and for letting me know 🤗 I do not flush after seaweed, no, because, in couple of days they get flushed again just to keep the oxygen levels fresh in the pot and in the reservoir. So.... soak away and drain out the excess, leaving the reservoir topped up until such a time that they get flushed again. I had a quiet day... no filming, but busy on the patio getting it ready for the growing season. Trimming hedge bits that think they can grow too long too fast for my liking etc. I will have to do it again in a week, but, if I don't get a handle on it now, then next week will be crazy, and I think by the end of next week I can move everyone that needs it, to the East side. We are having another temperature drop mid week, so, not going East Side just yet, although it is tempting, after today 😅 really appreciate you, Robi! Thank you so much for being here ❤️🌸
I grow mine in clay pots with seedling orch ieata bark and never repot when they eventually grow over the edge of the pot I just drop them in a bigger clay pot and fill in around with seedling bark so the center of the pot is the old fans and what is now dirt and once its in a 12" pot I take a hammer to the pots and divide but it takes 8-9 years.😁
Hi Carmella 🤩💐 thank you so much for your comment! I love it!! I am hoping that CareCollabs will attract comments like your's which are added nuggets of information for anyone reading the comments' section. Superb and I find that so interesting, organic media 8-9 years without disturbance... it can be done 👍🏼👍🏼 awesome!! Thank you so much for watching my video... considering my grow method may appear boring in comparison to your's! Really appreciate your time, Carmella. Have a lovely evening 🌸
🦒🌺🙌🌞 I was pleasantly surprised to realize you grow your Garren weaver out in the open🤔. Something to consider for the future as I never tried to grow a Phrag and some of them are very lovely. It also got me thinking that I am not really taking all the advantages of my climat as so many Paphs can grow outside all year round. I have to rethink about them and be not as protective 🤣 And then I can have more. Have a wonderful day vecina favorita, enjoy your day 🥰💖🤩
FFF 🙌🏼🤩🤸🏼♀️🥰💐 first of all, meine liebe Freundin... my profound apologies for not having been to see your video yet!! Really, no excuse 😓 suddenly it is this time of night! I went to be really early last night and suddenly, it is THIS time of night! I need more daylight hours 😣 3 weeks... 3 weeks to go for at least another few seconds of daylight 😩 I am glad that my Garren Weaver can stay outside now. The first winter I had it, it was a pain with the classic SH set up, but I only got him in September, so did not dare to leave him outside. But... did you see how much better he is looking since we saw him last? Almost all the leaves are clean and nice. I have been decent to him... no more neglect 👍🏼👍🏼thank you so much for being so kind and patient... I am not a good friend, I am so sorry! I do love you though, for what it is worth 😘😘 hope you had a great day! ❤️🌸
HI Matt 🙌🏼💐 thank you for also watching this video!! I need to explain my mistakes, especially when it comes to my set up. Seeing as how I grow is already considered controversial and set to fail, the fact that I can confirm failures and then also show how to make adjustments so that the set up remains a success... I find that super important. Justifies my position as well, to a degree 😬
Ynse, hi! 🤗💐 I am so sorry that I did not catch your name for the slipper orchid column! I do not want anyone to feel left out, and am ready to apologize to everyone that I feel I 'should have known' they could have these. I hope that you are not mad at me.... I have added you to the list for future reference though. Thank you for coming over to watch my video, Ynse! That I do really appreciate 🌸
Thank you, Ynse! I went to bed early last night, because I just knew that I was missing channels and felt a terrible feeling in my gut that it could be a 'disaster'!! the 15th!! I am glad that you are on board and I hope that we see some blooms... on some videos, because this is the longest awaited Carecollab that I have ever done!! Flipping Twinkles 🤯
@@NinjaOrchids I know the nagging feeling of lying in bed and you know you forgot something 😁 Don't expect too much from my Twinkles they just started with fresh roots (came rootless a few weeks ago) but I had them before so I can talk my way through a video
Good evening Nina. As usual you give a good presentation of how you cultivate your slippers and they are all looking good. The Garren weaver is looking OK. Although we grow our orchids in many different days, it doesn't matter as long as we are all happy with the way we cultivate them. I think your plants will winter much better than in my country although I think they would prefer our summers. Take care and once again thank you my friend, Ed.
Ed 😃💐 hello to the Slipper Orchid Guru! thank you for your kind words, Ed! Garren Weaver has had a lot more attention in the past months than it did prior, and looks to have forgiven me ... slapped my own hands for the neglect faze, several times! Unacceptable what I did there 😐 I agree that my paphs do not really like my summers, but if I keep them indoors, away from direct sun and close to the marble floor, it seems they are holding on until the temperatures become more pleasant for them. Really appreciate you joining in on this Carecollab. My apologies that I have not had a moment to watch your video, Ed! The past 24hrs, I have had some vision issues again and a blinding headache, so, I have been catching up on all the CareCollab videos and comments in brief stints. Terrible to have a headache that feels as though an explosion is imminent 😕 thank you for coming over and watching my video, Ed! 🙏🏼 have yourself a wonderful Friday ❤️🌸
🌸🥷🏼HI! 🙌🏼😍🤸🏼♀️💐 thank you!! I was watching your video this morning, got distracted by someone at the door, and look what time it is now, and I still have not left a comment 🤯 really sorry!! I will be back to write a comment! I hope that you are doing well and had a great day 🌸🥷🏼 thank you for your time and that 💖
Chantal 🤗💐 the ones I lost, still irk me, but... here we are 👍🏼 I was so embarrassed to have gotten my Phrag to that point! gulp!! Just no excuse... it lives outside, how much effort is it to pour a jug of water through daily?? Yeah 🤦🏼♀️ the shame!! It doesn't have ants now, ... it is not growing as clean as it could if I were to bring it inside, but...there is no room in the inn, and as long as it copes 'out there' I am ok with that. It won't be going to a show 😅 at least that is what I tell myself 😉 thank you, for taking me up on my offer and going back to watch this video. 🌸
This is awesome I love seeing how differently people grow them. I’m always amazed at how adaptable orchids are to different treatments and environments it’s so cool. You have a wealth of orchid knowledge lady!!
Hi Josh 🤩💐 your comment is awesome!! I really thank you for that! 🙏🏼 so encouraging and motivating, especially on a CareCollab video, thank you! I love the variety of ways orchids can be grown as well,... it is such a fascinating thing to see, and learn as to how something can be tweaked to get better results. Incredible! I appreciate your comment, Josh, and the time you took to watch my video! Thank you... I hope that you are having a relaxing evening 🥰🌸

Jose, hi! 🤩💐 without the blooms, they certainly are a beautiful plant to have around, that is for sure! Thank YOU, so much, Jose, for watching and for supporting the CareCollab series! 🙏🏼have a great start to your Thursday 🌸
Stephen, hi! 🥰💐 they are expensive, even here in Europe, Stephen! I bought my phrag at a massive discount and the paph collection came to be because I had a huge discount voucher with a nursery and they had a great selection of paphs, so I used my voucher for that (still, I lost some 😣) now... I won't be getting anymore because of how expensive they are. I better not loose anymore, then hey? 😅 thank you so much for watching, Stephen! I hope that you had a great Wednesday, my friend, and that you are doing well 🤗🌸
paths. are one of my most favorite rchids. I have 10 in my collection. My Delenatii is the slowest to bloom. Generally taking 4 years . They need to have 7 to 9 leaves before blooming. Thanks for sharing your method of growing. 🤗👏🌴
Shirley 😍💐hi! Thank you for the info on how many leaves delenatii needs to bloom... I went to count mine, and I am off by 2 as a bare minimum 😬 so... maybe in 2024 🤪 thank you also for watching my video, Shirley! I really appreciate your comment. Wishing you a relaxing evening 🌸
Hi David 🤩💐 sounds like a beautiful mix!! Thank you for leaving your method in the comments, David! It all adds to what CareCollabs are all about... intel in the comments, is priceless! Really appreciate you watching my video, as well, David! I hope that you had a great day 🌸
Hi Racle 🤩💐 Welcome! I have not seen you in my comments' section before, so... welcome and thank you so much for being here! Hi Nina I have 3 slipper orchids or paphiobedilum I got two of them to bloom earlier this year. I feel they are easy to grow. Thank you for sharing your care tips. Have a great day keep safe and happy growing : ) Reah
Reah, hi! 😍💐 thank you so much for the heads up on your slipper orchids, Reah! I knew that I was going to miss out on a lot of channels on this CareCollab, and am armed and ready with an apology to everyone... please do not feel left out, I just could not remember all channels, so... Hi Donna! 🤗💐 I am glad that you found this video useful as well! I had a learning curve with the slippers in my set up, so... it is good to know that someone does not have to make the same mistakes, and can get to successfully growing them straight away 👍🏼 thank you for taking the time to watch this video 🌸
HI Tom 😍💐 welcome! I have not seen you here before, so a warm warm welcome and a massive thank you for being here, watching the video and commenting. I truly appreciate that 👊🏼 please could you answer the following questions for me before I can pinpoint the best course of action? What do you mean by 'just purchased'? Let me know how long you have had the orchid time frame wise. Is the orchid wobbly in the pot when you pick up the pot? Don't shake it to see if it is, because if you pick it up and it is a little unstable, you will see that straight away. How many fans does your orchid have? Is she in bloom? Can you see any roots, in the event the pot is clear, or are there some roots visible at the surface before going into media? What hemisphere are you located in? Do you grow indoors in a controlled environment? It would appear that this sounds a little over board, but I would prefer to have the answers to make a better assessment and give you better advice. If you would like to have a look at my 'Need Help' Form, where Orchid Details similar to the above can be filled out, as well as sending images is an option, then please click the link here: ua-cam.com/video/wUc41OqWohM/v-deo.html this will give me a great impression of what your grow environment is like, what media you also prefer to grow your orchids in, as well as a multitude of other details, that allow me a form of Xray vision. There is also a section where you can add additional details without character limitations 😃 hope this did not overwhelm you. Have a wonderful day and once again, welcome! 🫶🏼❤️🌸
Hi Nina very comprehensive and informative video, thanks for sharing. I have 5 phaphs in various set ups and must admit I'd like to have them all in semihydro but for various reasons they are not. I have noticed the root drying as well and in one of my orchids and will try the academy on top. Regarding not flushing the pot, I think if it's done on the edges and not touching the orchid, it should be fine. How often you change the water in reservoir?
Mary, hi! 🥰💐 first of all, I now have added you to the list of slipper orchids on the database, and secondly, I do apologize that it did not register with me that you grow them ... please forgive me for that oversight! 🙏🏼 Winter and summer, I change the water every 3rd day, but in the winter I do not soak / flush between water exchange. So, that happens every 2 weeks in the winter, and in the summer I flush the pots every time I refresh the reservoir. Great question, I did not elaborate on that 👍🏼👍🏼 thank you for asking and letting me be specific about it! Thank you so much for watching, Mary! I hope that you are staying safe and keeping warm ❤️🌸
That’s a lot oh channels. My villosum is in buds. I guess I didn’t get the alert… was it on community post? In any case, I am not too into paphs and phrags. 🤪 but I have 3? 4? No phrags. Michael thinks I will grow Phrags well… I don’t know why they don’t do it for me. I understand the beautiful blooms and rewards but… 🤷🏻♂️
Hi Yoshi! 🤩💐 I have the database by which I am going, and did not have your name on that. I am so so sorry! I knew I was going to miss channels 😩 so many apologies to make... I did not remember that you had slipper orchids, and considering the magnitude of CareCollabs, without the collection lists from channels, I cannot keep up with watching videos and updating my database that way. I am not always at my desk when I watch a video, and when I try to remember to add a channel to the database at a later stage, I will have forgotten 😔 I am so very sorry!! I am more about the leaves of the paphs, and for the reasons you stated, I only have one phrag... because it can live outside. But, they don't do much for me either.. I am good with the one that I have. The paphs at least look pretty even when not in bloom! Forgive me for making the mistake on this CareCollab. Send me your list!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 thank you for watching, Yoshi! I have added you to the column for slipper orchids now, but... Send me your list!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼
@@NinjaOrchids I understand. No problem. I just thought I missed some sort of alert sent out. With your massive organizing list, i am sure it is a task. 😉 haven’t seen your comment in my videos lately so I know you are so busy doing all this and that! I am, too, super busy and so many videos I have been watching ending up just “👍” and not leaving comments… 😅
Hello Nina, very interesting video, like you, I have been cutting down on fertilizer and for the past 2 months my orchids "seem" to be doing better. They are getting 1.25ML msu fertilizer per 8L of rain water once every 4-5 days. I am concerned about the amount of light they are getting, it’s mostly 800 to 1,200 FC at foliage level, some are getting less some are getting more. I am wondering if I should increase that (?) Easily done with led lights but is it necessary considering the additional costs for electricity and the additional heat they generate ?
Hi Andre 🤩💐 for your slipper orchids, you will not need to raise the light levels. Let's say, that, if you have complex phalaenopsis light for them, then they will be fine. IF you see any of your slipper orchids growing a long stem, elongated in height and not as compact as they normally grow, then you need to increase light levels. Elongated stem growth between leaf nodes usually is a sign for too little light. Let me know if this is helpful and made sense! I agree that the additional costs for electricity is something we need to conserve, and these are fine with the light levels you are suggesting 👍🏼 thank you so very much for watching, Andre! Really appreciate your time and your support 🤗🌸
Thank you for sharing this video I don’t know if I could grow those indoors what do you think quite warm in the winter cooler in the summer do they need any light or just natural light
Hi Andrea 🤩💐 they do not need any extra light than a phalaenopsis would. If you have a complex phal hybrid, then, you can grow these! Same light levels, same temperature requirements. That is what I have learned out of all my mistakes in the past years. 👍🏼👍🏼 thank YOU so much for watching, Andrea! I hope that you had a great day ❤️🌸
Hi Nina 😍💐 no! I have never had issues with that happening. Thankfully, because that is what I was concerned about when I bought these orchids and used the set up for the first time on slipper orchids. So far, since this video aired, I have not lost anymore slippers 😬 hope I did not jinx that 🙄🤪🤞🏼😂 thank you so much for going back to watch this video, I really appreciate it 🥰 hope your Sunday was fabulous 👍🏼🌸
Hi Valarie 😍💐 thank you, so much!! It was another long one, and I appreciate you watching and seeing your cute emojis du jour!! 🙏🏼 hope you had a lovely day and are able to enjoy a relaxing evening 🥰🌸
Paphs (well, not all of them, but most) are slow as hell, but Phrags I don't consider to be so slow (some of the biggies like kovachii are slower, though). This time last year I was looking at a bud on Paph Dollgoldii, this year I have three new fans that I will be lucky if they are pushing buds in a years time. Meanwhile Phrag longifolium has matured two growths and produced two spikes during that time, and a third may be coming shortly. My problem isn't that the roots push the plant up out of the pot but I do have one that seems to want to grow roots up and up and up the stem. There is only so far you can shove a plant down in a pot before the stem is at the bottom. I thought it was etiolated from lack of light, but even in a higher light position, it continues to do it. Stupid thing should have bloomed by now but it just keeps growing up and up.
Don Miguel 🥰💐 hola jefe! Comparing paphs with phrags, you are right, the latter are a little faster. My Garren Weaver is doing a darn slight better than when we saw it last... already pushing up. What a relief 😬 so did Dollgoldii bloom? Did I miss that announcement? I have seen the root in stem growing slipper orchids on the tubes, and I am glad that I did not end up purchasing one of those, or I would be in real trouble. But... y'all have so much humidity, I would have thought that they would grow long enough to get into the pot without frazzling out? 🤔 thank you so much for watching, Michael! I hope that you had a great day today, Michael! Thank you so much for watching ❤️🌸
@@NinjaOrchids Dollgoldii bloomed a while ago, I think Jan-March or April 2021, I opened just before Orchie Dee had her baby. As for humidity, unless it is like 90%, the root tips on the Phrags stop. Now if you get them into media, they will usually restart, but generally they won't grow more than about an inch before they halt.

Mine are in constant water retentive media and absolutely loving it 🙏🏼
@@NinjaOrchids perfect thank you x
Would you have a repotting video on this kind of orchids?
Thank you.
Ps: I can't remember if you flushed after the Kelpmax soak?
I really like how you always show your "mistakes" and how you fixed them! My delenatii just opened 😻
After four years and several fatalities along the way I finally found out how I should grow these 😁

Take care and once again thank you my friend,
Ed.
It doesn't have ants now, ... it is not growing as clean as it could if I were to bring it inside, but...there is no room in the inn, and as long as it copes 'out there' I am ok with that. I love your information .iv just purchased a slipper and its frightening me .? When to water annd when to repot ? Helpx

I am so gaga atm... I remember you talking about Dollgoldii as if it were just a week ago, but don't remember that it bloomed 🤦🏼♀️
