Yesss thank you for doing more orchid content, I collect a lot of orchids and was doing that before I got into other houseplants. I am excited for more plant people to discover orchids because there is so much more variety than people realize, and in some cases, depending on your conditions of course, they are even easier to care for than certain popular houseplants.
I stumbled upon this video and enjoyed watching Trey Pyfer taking us through his family's orchid greenhouses. He is fortunate to grow cooler weather orchids. I am a hobbyist in Lake Worth, FL. I care for a small collection of orchids both under-screen with shade cloth and outdoors mounted on coconut palm trees. I live in hardiness zone 10B so it is very humid during the spring into summer months. This summer we experienced several near misses with hurricanes in the southeast coast of Florida. Sadly we had an abundance of tornadoes that require communities throughout the state to rebuild. Many of our central Florida houseplants and orchid growers sustained severe greenhouse damage. Floridians are resilient so we'll come back from Mother Nature's destruction and rebuild. Respectfully,
Thank you so much for showcasing orchids!!!!! What a gorgeous collection of paphiopedilum he has. I also greatly enjoyed Longwood . I have a mere 165 orchids . Love them all . And give orchid talks at local libraries to share my obsession with others.
Gregg Griffis (Longwood Gardens) and Trey (Little Brook Orchids) are two good guys and great growers! Very knowledgeable. You should have stopped at Wade's Orchids (Middleburg, PA). Wade is an excellent grower and personal friend. It's great to see these orchid businesses from the inside, as these plants require close attention and are extremely rewarding! Great vid!
There is nothing more fulfilling that seen orchids in their natural habitat, flowering in the middle of a green jungle getting pollinated by hummingbirds and insects. I am lucky to be from Ecuador where the majority come from
He has some beauties there! Priceless grace. He has made a fantastic investment in his profession, which shows. Too bad we don't live next-door, to look each week, to see what is in bloom. We have trouble finding bark, without tiny flies in it. How much does it cost without flies? This wrecks the mood. They ought to give us 2 bug eating plants for free, with each orchid pot. He said that the bark was treated. What does that mean? Is that the secret sauce, to maintain a dignified collection? Thanks again, for taking us along on your travels. P. S. A Bumblebee came in the window and spent some time on my Bellina Orchid. We'll soon see what it brought us and took away.
I have a few plants from Little Brook! They're so healthy and beautiful, no critters. 😂 Trey, and the other people that work there were so nice and patient. It was my first time at an orchid nursery and I ran around like a crazy person. We're planning another trip next month, so brace yourselves. ❤😂
I LOVE Little Brook Orchids. Being from Lancaster, it's where I buy my orchids. Trey and his crew are great people! They will be at the SEPOS orchid show from 3/31 to 4/2 in Oaks PA. Dope orchid show! So crazy seeing them on your channel!
Great video. I've seen this fellow and plants at various orchid shows but the look inside his greenhouse was exciting. BTW, SEPOS show is 3/31-4/2 and am sure he'll be there. It's a grand event folks!
Wow! What a fabulous treat. I adore orchids and tears came to my eyes as I was gifted with the amazing tour. I love this place. I have to see it someday. It's on my bucket list.
Love this place!! 80% of my orchid collection comes from them lol. They are super friendly and knowledgeable and have so many varieties. If you’re a first time plant owner or a super orchid fan like myself, this your place. You won’t find a better collection anywhere else. Worth a day trip and visit!!
Loved this. I'm in Eastern Ontario but I saved Little Brook to Google Maps as a place I want to definitely go see when I'm next out that way. Thanks Summer!
Thanks for more orchid content! If you’re looking for more people to talk to regarding orchids, I can recommend the following: Arthur Chadwick from Chadwick and Sons Orchids near Richmond, Virginia. These guys are known historically for their Cattleya breeding and Arthur has a huge amount of historical knowledge on the orchid industry before the rise of Phalaenopsis. He has both a website with tons of articles on individual species as well as a channel with short videos. Fred Clarke from Sunset Valley Orchids near San Diego, California. Known as the breeder of the first “black” orchid hybrid, he specializes in breeding some of the best Catesetum type hybrids and modern cattleya hybrids. Let me know if you’d like more info on growers in this realm in case you’d be interested in making more orchid content!
Every time you visit an orchid house, I'm watching for the ladyslippers. They're my favourite, but I'm biased because I'm from NH, and our state wildflower is the Pink Ladyslipper, Cypripedium acaule.
I see a day trip in my near future! Thanks for sharing. Little Brook Orchids was on my list of places to visit but now I feel like I need to bump it higher on the list!
Slay guess I was early for once can't wait to see what kind of orchids there are! Edit: few minutes in and sooooo excited to know this is just a county away from me
omg i was hoping to see an epidendrum, so hard to find anyone anywhere talking about them, somehow the first one you point out "wedding valley 'yubanai' " is LITERALLY the one i used to have, the exact cultivar (i was so inexperienced then, hence the "used to"), i was "shook" as ppl used to say
Summer this was the funniest tour. I love his humor and orchids are beautiful. Do you know if the herb pharm sprays are safe for pets? I’m too lazy to look up.
I would recommend getting the non-alcoholic extracts for pets. I was actually just using an apple cider vinegar extract with goldenseal for a chicken (Lincoln) and a b complex in glycerite for her and another chicken (Kleo), which were going through a nutrient deficiency.
Wonderful to see, what a beautiful nursery. It is just a pity that you showed so less species, because I‘m only collecting species, absolutly no hybrids. But I know, most people want to see hybrids. It‘s also a pity, that we can‘t buy here in Europe orchids from the US, specially because there are a lot of species in the US collections and nurseries, which are not available in Europe.
My plant had bark rot I threw it away and put bark from the paulownia tree, which is a very beautiful and wonderful bark Is this good for the plant? Question 2: Does the plant live in water??!!!
