      Shirley, hi 😍💐 thank you for your feedback! It is good stuff, however, I have to find another KelpMax source. I am NOT happy with what is being shipped from the brand that I have always used. The same quantity turns the water the color of weak tea, whereas in the past years, it would go to a mahogany brown... they have messed up and I am not happy that I have to use double. Even contacting the company has not amounted to anything, ... no response! I will go on the hunt in early next year and see if I cannot find something that makes me feel good about what I am putting in my water. Thank you so so much for watching, lovely lady ❤️ hope your Saturday was fabulous ❤️🌸

    🦒💖🙌 The best start, indeed !!! The way we grow orchids has evolved tremedously in recent years, at least for me. I remember the first bareroot orchids that I bought, long ago. I was told to give them a welcome drink of water with white sugar as a boost of energy. It sounded a good idea at the time, but not really helpeful. Although brown sugar still has traces of some minerals including cal and mag, they are non existent in white sugar. Great information as usual. Much love and best wishes for your saturday 😘😘🥰🥰

      FFF 😍🙌🏼🤸🏼‍♀️🥰💐 good evening meine liebe Freundin! Sugar water? Those were the days, huh? I never did that because I did not like the idea of anything hanging around that could attract moldy thingies! A video I am working on ... IF I could just get around to finishing it. I think it has been parked in the projects for 6 weeks now 🙄 un día, un día I will get around to finishing it. So much to do outside, and to enjoy... I do not want to be cooped up indoors for more than is absolutely necessary. Plenty of months ahead where that will be the case. As long as I do not delete the clips we should be fine 🤪 really appreciate you taking the time to watch, amiga mia! Your weekend... and here you are, always 🙏🏼😘 hope your day was beautiful and happy happy birthday to the fur babies, Phoenix and Olivia! I hope that they are settled in nicely after a busy day and don't have the zoomies from all the 'sugar' 😂😂 much love to you ❤️🌸

      I know a ton of folk who swear by adding sugar to vases of cut flowers to make them last longer. It’s not uncommon, at least where I live. I can see where the idea came from. We know that photosynthesis is the process by which the plant creates food for itself. “Food” is technically sugars. Specifically, Glucose. That said, I’m not sure if highly processed refined simple sugars like white sugar actually produce the glucose a plant needs in the form it needs it. I suspect, without knowing, those sugars may need to be complex and more carbohydrate. If I have time, I’ll do some research on that one day, but I’m not now, nor have I ever, added sugar to water as part of my welcome cocktail.

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  2 роки тому +6

    • @FernandaNascimentoOrchids
      @FernandaNascimentoOrchids 2 роки тому +6

      @@RareRootsOfJoyMelbourne Absolutely, cut flowers will certainly benefit from ready made sugars as they no longer can perform photosynthesis ? And I am glad we know more these dyas and have wonderful alternatives, not having to use old methods anymore. I agree with you that more complex carbohydrates are more interesting for the living plants to produce the "sugars" they need, rather than the highly processed refined white sugar which is empty of nutrients. Same as for us humans and I always think that processes are very similar, plants and animals go by the same principles and I really find it fascinating 😃

      HI Andrea 😍💐 that is very strange that those products are not available, Andrea, I am sorry to hear that. But, what you can do, if you want to, is give your orchids an epsom salts soak... it doesn't have the ready made mix in bottle, but, at least the orchids would get a magnesium boost? Just a thought. Then, online it may be possible to get Calcium Nitrate only? Then a separate Calcium soak would do the trick as well. It is not a must, just a suggestion, a thought 🤗 I hope that all will go well with your appointment on Monday! I will be thinking of you 🙏🏼 thank you so much for watching this video. Nina, help. Unboxed my Den. victoria-reginae 4 canes 2 canes hacve a couple of buds, 3 canes are finished growing it has 2 small keikeis--it’s in a tiny pot with moist spag and it smells like mushrooms-I grow in a greenhouse where temps are not allowed to go below about 55 degrees F (12-13 C) the humidity is set at 65% I live in Colorado USA where our highs during the day are in the low 70s F (21-23 C). The spag is packed into a 2.5” (6 cm). What are your suggestions?

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  2 роки тому +4

      HI Shari 🥰💐 congratulations on your fantastic sounding Den VR 🙌🏼🥳 she sounds amazing! And buds to boot!! Awesomeness 😃 well, I have a video airing next, which talks about mini phals that are grown exclusively in sphagnum moss, and the care in that media. In the video, I explain exactly how I would proceed with any orchid that is in packed moss. Repotting, new roots etc, the whole nine yards. The video of course, will be much more detailed, but, in a nutshell, if you do not have any new roots growing, then I would not repot, instead follow the care for old sphagnum moss as what I talk about in the next video. But, what you can do immediately is, soak the pot in the cleanest water you have, with cool water that feels refreshing to the touch so that the roots get a nice cool down, not cold water, just a little above the luke warm temperature... the water should feel refreshing to your touch, not cold. You have no idea how much salt is in that moss, so, we need to clean the pot out first, while the orchid is still in the pot, giving it a sort of reset. I would measure the ppm of the water before and after a 30 minute soak. See if the ppm is high, above 500. Same with pH, measure the pH after the soak so that you can gage if the moss is acidic. The mushroom smell can be just from the moss not having had air circulation due to shipping. It does not always mean the moss is degraded beyond the point of being a problem for the orchid. Clearly she is healthy! After the soak, flush the pot through with clean water again and leave it be. If the ppm is high then you know that you can repeat the soak again as the pot is about to go dry, but still damp. No fertilizer, no supplements if the ppm is above 500. Let her acclimate. And, let me know if you have any other questions, should you have time to watch the up and coming video 👍🏼👍🏼 thank you for watching this one and for your comment earlier. ❤️🌸

    These tips definitely work! I didn’t use cal mag or seaweed when I first started keeping orchids. Relocation stress used to pause my orchid growth for quite a while, but using these products genuinely helped my orchids settle in faster. Also almost all my vanda roots have this weird habit of pausing root growth despite seemingly nominal growing conditions. It seems to happen just before a new leaf, spike, or a new root branch?🤷🏼‍♂️
    (I don’t have a ton of exp, so that’s just a hunch based off a few observations. Vanda roots are great at visually showing the effects of different supplements!) Just imagine how stressed you would be if the sun turned off for 3 days to a week, I would need a drink too! 🤔🤣

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  2 роки тому +4

      Hi &yLand 😍💐 thank you for your confirmation and leaving it here for others to read, in case they want to find more information, I appreciate that 🤗 you are absolutely spot on in your observations that the vanda roots stop or slow down growth when they are busy doing something else elsewhere. But not ALL do that! Some of the complex hybrids do not differentiate and just keep growing, so if you are seeing it happen on one and not another, that is normal and there is nothing wrong with the one that stops the root growth. I am dying to get some new roots on my 2 large vandas!! They are seriously dehydrating now, and I am very very concerned that I cannot help them to recover, so 🤞🏼🤞🏼 I learned a lot about the behavior of roots while in the trees in Kenya. I did not know what I was observing, but there must have been some muscle memory 'in there' because now I have so many flashbacks, and I am able to compute what I see and make sense of it. Me and my trees... I felt like Jane 😆 Dang... I feel as though my orchids live in perpetual darkness come the winter, so... my stress levels are all the way up there because I know that they are stressed, so yeah... shipping is not ideal and any delays are absolutely devastating... I hated waiting for my orchids over the weekend, knowing that they were already in Spain, but no deliveries over the weekend. In a way, I am glad that I am not online ordering atm... I don't think I could take it 🤪 thank you so much for watching / for listening, &yLand! I appreciate you 🥰🌸

    Hi Nina! I think I’m going to buy some seaweed and give this a go on my rehab orchids (I’m ‘trying’ not to buy or acquire more at the moment 😅). Does the seaweed expire or spoil?
    I’m not sure if you saw my reply to your reply on the faux sheath idea (I was really late in replying to you, sorry), but 4/5 plants matured their buds for me. Frankly, I think the 5th would have worked had I secured the sheath better. It popped off sometime while I was away for a few days in Michigan. Anyhow - I think your idea works!

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  2 роки тому +4

      Joshua, hi 😍💐 the seaweed will not expire fast if you store it in the fridge. Know that, any organic product has a shelf life, and even as the product is bottled, the degrading process starts. Make sure you buy a product that comes in a bottle that is not see through. Light accelerates the decline of the product and the shelf life will be diminished. Although it is tempting to get a bigger bottle because it may be more cost effective, I would opt for a size that can be used up within a year. Storing your seaweed in the fridge is ideal. These days, products are manufactured to stay 'fresh' but, heat and light is not a good thing with organic supplements. I did see your update on the video, and couldn't stop smiling as I read it! I was on a small device, so I could not reply straight away, and then... ⏳⌛️ for which I am so sorry! Thank you so much for letting me know that this sheath thing worked 🙏🏼 it was kind of you to write it all out and if I had not seen it as I was winding down on a small device, I would have replied to it straight away. My profound apologies! I am going to put that sheath on my Mailman, next time a growth is just about mature, before the buds even form. Then we shall see 🙄 thank you so very much for watching, Joshua! I hope you had a wonderful Saturday 🥰🌸

      Hi Mirela 😍💐 welcome! I have not seen you here before, so a warm warm welcome and thank you so much for being here, watching the videos and leaving me a comment! 🤗 I have this video about Calcium & Magnesium 👉🏼 ua-cam.com/video/-hzXm0FsyVA/v-deo.html and a separate Seaweed video 👉🏼 ua-cam.com/video/5GNsyKEpe-Q/v-deo.html in case you are interested in that one as well. In today's video, I mentioned that I dose very conservatively, but I am more concerned about overdoing it than going all guns blazing and causing issues, especially with seaweed. But, I use 60ppm of CalMag and 40ppm of seaweed. For new orchids straight away, no matter the size and I pH at 7.0 if they arrive in bark, 6.8 if they arrive bare root and 7.5 if they arrive in sphagnum moss only. For my general care, I give all my orchids a CalMag and Seaweed soak 1x month and if there are some struggling orchids, I may double up, but that is not the norm. Let me know if the linked videos bring other questions 👍🏼 hope your day is already beautiful, Mirela 🌸

      Hi Jurgita 😍💐 it is so good to see you again!! Hope that you are having a lovely day already 🤗 I am going to link a video where I talk about preparing an epsom salt soak for orchids, but in the video I talk about adjusting pH and what I use to do that ua-cam.com/video/r-N471wGL7A/v-deo.html Depending on how big your collection is, you can also use fresh lemon to reduce pH but only sparingly, because lemon has potassium in it, so does your fertilizer... too much of one element is not good for the other elements to perform, but if you have a small orchid collection of maybe, 10, then you can use lemon and don't have to buy anything. Also, I am not affiliated with any of the products that I point out in this video, or any of my videos. So, please do not think that I am trying to sneak something by and gain anything from it 😬 I so appreciate your feedback on the content of my channel, thank you so much 🙏🏼 it is motivating and encouraging, thank you! Also, for watching my videos 🙏🏼 supporting my channel with your time, that means a lot 🙏🏼 ❤️ if you have any questions regarding the other video, some thoughts you would like to run by me, just to confirm a few things, please continue to ask away 👍🏼❤️🌸

      I use citric acid in powder form for PH down and Bicarbonate of Soda (baking powder) as PH up. Both are available in the pantry staples isle of the supermarket where I am. They are VERY cheap compared to other PH up/down solutions you might get. I don’t know if this helps you but if you choose to use citric acid, just know a little goes a long way.

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  2 роки тому +5

      Indeed, they do the trick. I am just wary of anything that is not synthetic interfering with the synthetic make up of a fertilizer... to be on the safe side, when putting information out there, I prefer to go with products that will match and not clash with a fertilizer or supplements. Bicarbonate of soda comes to mind .... when I use silicon as a pH up, it does one thing, and then provides a tad of silicon as well, should I have been heavy handed with the pH down. Citric Acid has the capacity to lower pH but once it comes into contact with the plant, can also be absorbed by the microbes and plants, increasing the pH rapidly again. Edit: because it generates citrate ions in the process and these are absorbed, resulting in the pH going up again.

      HI Michael 🤩💐 bienvenido!! 😃 As I have not seen you in the comments before, I extend a warm warm welcome and thank you so much for being here! For commenting... I will take this opportunity to thank you for all the videos you have watched in the past. 🙏🏼 it is a seaweed extract, yes, but... I doubt that it has that much impact, seeing as it is not the main focus of the product. I would consider it to be a trace element in this product. Still, I am glad that they have it in it, because, a lot of the time, especially this time of year, I only administer calmag, and no extra seaweed... good to have a little something something in the solution. However, for the ppm quantities that we are talking about, the seaweed efficacy is pretty much irrelevant. At least, when I apply CalMag, I don't even see the water change color as proof that there is seaweed in this product... that tells me a lot! I hope that you are doing well, and, thank you so very much for watching this video, and others. Y, otra vez... bienvenido 🌸

    I am going to order orchids seedlings soon and also ordering calmag and seaweed. I want to try the welcome cocktail. This will be my second round of seedlings. I didn't use the welcome cocktail the first time around. How many drops of each to make the welcome cocktail. I don't understand ph and parts per million. The first batch of seedlings didn't do much until after year. My dendrobium phalaenopis did the most it is not mature yet. The rest after year one is starting to grow new growth. Yeah!!!!. I will be anxious to see the difference between the first batch with no welcome cocktail versus the ones with the welcome cocktail. These seedlings will come bare rooted. Thanks

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  5 місяців тому +3

      Hi Lisa 😍💐 seedlings take a really long time to establish themselves, but it is a nice labor of love with a lot of patience required. I have had seedlings for 5 years and it would appear that they have not progressed in size at all, so, some develop and mature faster, there are some that will just take 'forever' to establish themselves. The welcome cocktail is there to dampen the stress of the travels and acclimating to the new environment. It helps a lot for their recovery. So, as I do everything with a TDS meter and by pH, I am uncertain about what your CalMag product will be, the concentration it has in the bottle. Please let me know which brand you are getting and then I will have a look at the instructions to see what they suggest as far as recommended dosage on the label. Seaweed is relatively easy to gage without using a TDS or pH meter because we can go by color. Your water should look like an Earl Grey Tea color once brewed. It should be light brown, you should be able to see through it. In some of my videos you will see that my seaweed water looks very dark. That is because I am filming and it has to show on camera. I up the concentration for filming purposes, so that there is no mistake I am using seaweed as I mix. However, once I actually use it, I do dilute it down a little further. In this video, the container you see with seaweed in it, has the correct coloration. It was a sunny day, a see through container, not my black bucket, so it was easy to see what I was doing 😬 as your seedlings are coming bare root, may I suggest this video ua-cam.com/video/dKuslDDqXUU/v-deo.html in which I discuss how I care for bare root new imports to ensure that they get what they need in the attempt to revive them before potting them up. Just in case you have a moment to spare 🫶🏼 thank you so much for watching this video, Lisa! I am excited for you to get your seedlings and know that you can always ask any questions as and when you get them, if you have any doubts moving forward! Have a wonderful day 🫶🏼❤️🌸

      I am ordering general 0:00 hydroponics calmagic and organic liquid seedweed and kelp fertilizer by Bloom City. I am ordering them both from Amazon. Can you tell me the number of drops or teaspoons or tablespoons for each to make a batch. I am not good with ph and so forth. Thank you very much.

    How odd, this video didn't show up at the usual time and actually wouldn't show for me until I rebooted the computer (I could see it on my phone so I knew it was there). YT gets stranger and stranger.
    Is it me or did you get more blooms on a spike from maxima this year than last year?

      Don Miguel 🥰💐 I can't win with YT! 🙄 I don't want to take on any victim status, but I feel a though YT hates me 🤦🏼‍♀️ It is not you... my maxima indeed has more blooms on one of the spikes, I don't know which one it is but I think that one of them has 4 blooms, but now, it doesn't make sense, from memory, because I have 6 blooms in total. Loosing my mind 😆 still... the COLOR!! I have the hot pink back, and not the washed out colors that I had last year, sooooo so happy 🥳 and the fragrance in my blooming alley is just heavenly! Hope your day was a fabulous one and that all of you are already feet and paws up ❤️👣🐾❤️ thank you so much for watching / listening, taking time on my video, thank you so much for your support 🙏🏼 have a chillax evening 🌸

      @@NinjaOrchids it was something with my PC because the video was showing on my mobile, maybe YT and microsoft are in a tiff.
      So glad you got a nice blooming from maxima and that the blooms are up to their normal standard. Wish the others would hurry up and bloom so you will have a nice range of colors to look at.
