Owning the gen.4 Three months... But it's a versatile bike. You don't need to go fast each time. It can be a lazy shifting cruise bike in town.... But when you are out of it.... Make a wheelie.... 😂 I am in love with this Machine. From 5000rpm you will get the Pop when upshifting.
Even though I am not the biggest fan of modern motorcycles, I've got to agree with you that it does not look bad. My first (and only) impression on the driving dynamics does kind of match yours. I recently got to switch bikes and take a ride on a friend's '23 SP. He put it in "everything off" mode for me to get the full experience. We were driving some very narrow roads near Alkmaar and the first time I gave it a sizeable amount of throttle the front wheel came up incredibly easily, quickly and far. It honestly scared me quite a bit because neither of my bikes do that, I am not used to big wheelies, and it is my friend's new and quite expensive bike. I was really glad to switch back again after a few minutes. Could I get used to that amount of power and torque? Yes. Could I get used to the less dynamic/focused chassis and ergonomics compared to my bike? Most likely. But do I want to? Honestly not. I am already finding my ST675R less enjoyable on the street after having driven it quite spiritedly on track and honestly that 675 engine already has so much power I hardly go full throttle or surpass 3rd gear on the street. More power can definitely be fun if you drive a lot of wide and straight roads, but it's not for me. More power also does not make a bike better. I am setting significantly quicker laps with less effort on my ST675R than my friend on his MT09SP. I felt like I was barely scratching the surface of my Triumph's capabilities whilst my friend is struggling with wheelies, seating position and scraping the foot pegs. There is of course a rider difference, but I honestly had expected my friend to be quicker since he has more riding and track experience. Is the MT09 a great bike? Definitely! No question about that. But on a sensible level, something like an MT07 would most likely be better suited for our street riding in the Netherlands or in Europe. Would I then pick an MT07 over an MT09 on a personal level? Probably not. If I had to choose between those two I would probably choose the MT09(SP) because I like riding on track too much, but there are definitely other options I'd prefer for that. So what do I think about the MT09 then? I think it is a great all-round full-A-class motorcycle which your average rider can thoroughly enjoy as a step up from their A2 MT07 for example. I really think it is a great jack of all trades motorcycle, I just personally think it is a master of none of those. Cheers!
Ive got the 3rd gen sp 21 mod, i put gilles handlebars lowers on, gilles rearset and a hyperpro dynamic steering damper So a lower bar, higher and further back peg placement and more residtance on the bars. Its a completely different bike than stock. Getting new brakes next season
Yamaha has a track solution, where the MT line has shortcomings. It's called an R9. I think the Kawasaki Z900 should come into the conversation now, since 2025 offers pretty much all the same level of electronics in a practical sense. Anyway, a lot depends on your country, your roads, the legal requirements regarding speed, the places you typically frequent. Smaller countries a smaller displacement makes a lot more practical sense. America, big engines capable of big speed and covering big distances are more suitable. Europe, the space to let engines run is limited, so having all that top end power is not going to be used most of the time and can feel like driving around a supercar at low speeds.
@ I do agree that the R9 is the sensible choice for track use compared to the MT09SP. Unfortunately, the R9 wasn't really a thing yet when my friend bought his MT09SP, and the MT09SP is/was still marketed as the "sportier" version of the MT09, which most people would assume to be track use. SP normally means Sports Production (for racing) of course. Z900 is also a great bike (although probably even worse on track), but for Europe I would probably still prefer a Z700 with less power as you can just use it more. Since the Z900 is essentially a 1000cc supernaked you could argue the track version would be the ZX10R instead of the SE model, just like the MT09SP and R9.
@ SP ("Sport Production") version is street bike+. Nothing inherently different about the geometry, chassis, engine. It's MT plus suspension upgrades, livery differences, and supermoto ABS mode. Minus the mode, you can build a standard MT in the aftermarket that rivals the SP. That doesn't make a street bike a track bike. R9 is fundamentally different in the chassis, frame, suspension, ergonomics, fairings, probably gearing as well. And yes, it's been a little while in the making. Just like the release of the T7 Tenere, some good things take a little longer but the wait is worth it. Z900 isn't worse on track, it's better. Whereas FZ-09 (later MT-09) began life as a "motard-roadster" (from the words of the Japanese project manager) and later got repurposed with radically changed frame to something of a standard naked bike, the Z900 started life as a pretty poised and stable naked bike right out of the gate. It's been operating in racing clubs in parts of the world just fine. Chris of Bike World raced with a slightly modified one a few years ago (look it up) and it did quite well, minimal changes as most people would make to a naked bike.
I am so glad to have bought a rn43 SP back then and with ECU mapping, airbox mod and blipper, it is in no way inferior to the new one... currently 125 HP and 99 Nm and with Akra and Euro 4 the much better sound

@@RickChardet waiting for your review then! I too love supermoto's. I had a DRZ400SM, but it is outdated. It does not have fuel injection, no sixth gear, no quick shifter, no riding modes, not even a fuel gauge. It is even low on power. What it did have is a very good power to weight ratio.
