My suggestions for improvements for the facelift: Improve the quality feeling of the interior. Doorcards should include some wood and less of that black plastic slab where the seat buttons are. The instrument cluster display should have much smaller bezels and perhaps be smaller or better integrated. The ambient lighting isn't as classy and elegant as in the A8. Small details like the cheap tablet in the back is also better in the A8. The Audi A8 has a better interior quality feel.
Man! I feel that the S-Class is the one car everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime...The 'night drive' was absolutely amazing; more please.
Even when you were testing the audio, I could see the natural reflex to increase the volume with a knob. Just tech overload 😭. Thank you this review!!! Just like old times when you went in deep on the details!

Love the night drive scenes Thomas, Keep it up! My only recommendation to the Mercedes engineers is that they need to give the ICE S-Class the hyper screen option at the very least on the Maybach model. Other cars for night time drive... wouldn't it be nice to see the Rolls Royce Phantom and the new Flying Spur. Just a quick question you have mentioned many time just how quite the S-Class is so my question is which is more silent the EQS or the S-Class or the Maybach is the quietest of the bunch?
Would you say this current new S Class is more comfortable than the previous S Class. Is there much difference in the drive between the previous and current one.
47:09 The digital line that follows behind the car in front is for when the visibility is severely reduced. For example when you are driving fast in heavy rain, there will be a lot of water splashing up from the cars in front and you may not see them so well. Especially if there is a combination of bad weather: Heavy snow, thick fog, dark etc.
Good gefuhl and nice light the Thomas blue will keep you awake... the night light beams alive function might tire ones eyes and create unpredicable driving conditions Soo bad with capacitive buttons and screen functions needs to be predictable Also it is a user interface problem with updates or aging of the system Your dialog is great not to fast... with a good gefuhl

Hello love the interior in the car. but just curious is there a way to turn off the interior lights if you decide that you don’t want the beautiful ambient lighting just wondering
One suggestion, when you measure the headroom, rest your head on the head rest and then measure the roof height from the crown area of your head. Because, in case of a bump or small jump in the road the head can smash into the roof breaking your neck. Also try and check if you can drink water from a half filled water bottle in the back seat to check the practicality.😅
I wanted to buy the E63s when I get my dream job. But apparently they are discontinuing the V8. So now I set my sight on the S500 which when fully loaded, costs the same as the E63s. For me at least.
Resemblance to lesser Mercedes models is not ideal. Pale interior and wood is nice except for the pianoo black dash option is not ideal. Night driving sequence was very informative. Lots of MBUX features but I did not see a total blackout option (excluding speedo) as in Saab. I wonder if so many big screen tricks are actually a dangerous distraction. Key function options should appear in the HUD to keep drivers eyes on the road?
Hi Thomas I am from Hong Kong and love your Professional videos very much . Can you do a comparison with the older generation W221 . The plus and cons of W223. Much appreciated . Thanks
Hey, I want to see parked cars on the side of the road, they might pull out as I approach. In Thailand many drivers do not turn on their lights at night. Confusion due to bright street lights perhaps, drunk and forgetful is possible, saving their car battery perhaps, No, our taxi driver said he did not turn his lights on because they may shine into the eyes of oncoming cars. These cars are sold internationally. Lights are there to illuminate the road and traffic. A case of clever headlight technology outsmarting the intended purpose of improving visibility and therefore safety. The argument against automation is that humans can think when new unpredicted problems occur. Computers aiding drivers is great, but computers blinding and preventing drivers from exercising control is dangerous.
Kia Ora from Aotearoa Thomas. Yes loved the night driving too to show us the amazing headlight technology and interior LED tech too. Awesome! 🇳🇿Kia Kaha from Aotearoa🇳🇿
One question I have to you, Thomas: How big is the difference in ride quality and handling between SUVs and their equivalent sedans? Like: How big is the difference between a GLE and an e-class or a GLS and an S-class?
That's a very good question. It's tough, but trying to keep it simple: I feel that the sedans offer the better ride on a factual level, however the SUVs offer the upright seating position and a more intensive travel feeling.
I have the multibeam on my C238 and played around with the automatic highbeams. It works well but not well enough. On an hour-long drive I would get one or two people signalling me that I'm blinding them. So I just turned it off... Then again, I had someone flash their highbeams at me on a country road when I didn't have my high beams on at all, guess he thought my lights were too bright, lol. Also, like Thomas said, the high beams on the reflecting road signs are actually too bright for the driver...
Thomas, we get it, it has ambient light feature. U spent nearly 1/3rd of time on it. Btw it’s not ideal feature for safety because ambient lights reflections on the windscreen reduces the long distance visibility. Grüßen, PP
Those exhaust tips are fine. They're actually better. It looks cleaner and the exhaust actually comes out there. When it isn't good is when the exhaust comes out below and those ovals are closed. It looks terrible when steam comes out from the bottom but should instead come out of those ovals. So these aren't really fake in my opinion.
Great comprehensive video, guys! The point about DRLs you brought up is a good one, and it might seem minor to a lot of people but the CLS already looks like the CLA which looks like the A class from the front. Despite their larger proportions every new generation, the presence these cars have when you see them in your mirrors is getting weaker and weaker. I get that the C class buyer will feel really happy that their 'smaller' car looks like an S class now, but the buyer of the S class might mind that their S looks like a C. One, two or three dots in the headlights is not going to be enough of a distinguishing factor when people see them in their mirrors, and I feel like Mercedes cars look too alike for their own good. I saw the new S in a local showroom, and while it is technologically way more advanced than before, I'm not sure it is as 'premium' of a product anymore. Granted, many of the S class owners don't care about the details because they just want the latest and greatest, but this ethos is going to trickle down to the lower models. The C class, which is supposed to be way more driver-oriented than the S, has the same screens and along with those come the same issues like unnecessary barriers when you just want to adjust the AC. A huge part of the fun of driving is being in control of the vehicle, and these adjustments, small as Mercedes would make them seem, are taking away from the driving experience.
I agree. They went over the top on the screens and the tech and underachieved on the premium appeal on the exterior. I even think the flat screens in the centre and behind the wheel look tacky. Like driving a discotheque. It's such a handful and visual destraction that I think even with all its safety features, it becomes unsafe to drive. I think this configuration of ambient lights with the radiation light of the screens would actually stress my eyes at night in stead of soothing me. Maybe as a passenger it would be a more enjoyable experience but as a driver you need your eyes on the road not on the screens.
Thomas very very cool sedan! Love it all....except for those digital dash screens. Wish it was all analog. S Class must have the hood ornament. Great review.
Good to know there’s still condensation on the center of the windshield. I’ll feel right at home coming out of older Mercedes😜. Those headlights at night are wild. Hopefully US regulations allow that feature
Hello, Thomas. Could you please tell us difference between S Class and A8L? This rear seats and design area is completely copied from A8, and seems more legroom in A8L.
Can you ask the engineers why they're using more hard touch plastics in cars like the GLE and new C Class where some competitors are all soft touch plastics. The door bins of the GLE is hard plastic. The X5 has soft plastic. Why? And also the creaking when pressing on the dashboard wasn't there on models in the past and also why they use gloss black.
@@autogefuehl That's sad since the prices have increased not decreased. The W203 C Class was the best for build quality and feeling of solidity. Even in the small details. I wish they can go back to that solid feeling.
It's weird how Mercedes maintains their classic S-Class shape/silhouette (which I like), but makes the front headlights and taillights look like some random Kia. Wish they'd go back to being elegant instead trying to be youthful.
If someome made a wagon version with long wheel base, the rear seat could be bough back a lot more for comfort. I have long legs and would feel restricted still in the back. Not being able to stretch my knees is like torture.
It would look horrible though. We have an older long version s class and the room is very nice. I would always get a long wheel base if possible. Stupid they offer long wheel bases of c and e class only in china
Great design - inside and out. I love the flowing lines and the quality materials. This car is much more beautiful than the EQS in my eyes. Only the ergonomics and the lack of haptic controls are irritating. What is going wrong at the moment? A step backwards is not quite the right answer. It's as if the car was built for the catalogue without thinking about the future users. The S-Class doesn't match my usage profile, so if the next E-Class delivers the same cheap ergonomics, I'll give up the great design and safe feeling of my Mercedes. Audi is apparently one step ahead and has hopefully learned from its digital massacre in the A6. I'm curious and still supplied in the next 2-3 years. Otherwise, I'm sure there will continue to be great used cars. Btw - did I miss the conclusion? ;)
@@autogefuehl I hope the algorithm still likes cars, otherwise the cars will be missing in the end too :D Until then, I'll manage to form an opinion from the extensive video ;)

1. The exterior design has become more sleek, minimal curves and heavy looking body panels. The Grill is too big vertically, could be made shorter keeping the width same. @@autogefuehl red light doesn’t affect your night vision, which is why you see red flash lights used by pilots and the military etc
Interesting
Impressive I’m also waiting how the higher end version will turn out
Enough car right there for anyone.
It's weird how Mercedes maintains their classic S-Class shape/silhouette (which I like), but makes the front headlights and taillights look like some random Kia. Wish they'd go back to being elegant instead trying to be youthful.
Only 57 minutes? I hope you can tell me whether the EQS is still worth it over this one.
Compare it here: ua-cam.com/video/WKrNCVSdefA/v-deo.html
i would def turn all amb light off..
I am going to buy very soon amg Mercedes Benz s class from chris
If someome made a wagon version with long wheel base, the rear seat could be bough back a lot more for comfort. I have long legs and would feel restricted still in the back. Not being able to stretch my knees is like torture.
It would look horrible though. We have an older long version s class and the room is very nice. I would always get a long wheel base if possible. Stupid they offer long wheel bases of c and e class only in china
WHEN WILL YOU ILLUMINATE THE HOOD STAR ON THE S CLASS_
Btw - did I miss the conclusion? ;)
yeah true. Conclusion is not liked by youtube algorithm, that's why no more :/ Hope u can live with it!
@@autogefuehl I hope the algorithm still likes cars, otherwise the cars will be missing in the end too :D
Until then, I'll manage to form an opinion from the extensive video ;)
I want this car to have a 10 or 12 cylinder.
