    that interior is a giant NO. This is the first S class I've seen where I actually hate the interior. It's like Mercedes took all the worst aspects of modern interior design and crammed it all into one space. Capacative touch, piano black, no physical buttons, screens not integrated into the dashboard, infinite distractions. It's truly awful.

    We have an old s class. 1986 500 sel. Everything works. All needles etc. imagine this one 10 years down the road. No screen will work and will be in a mechanics garage all the time. The interior is too complicated. Rolls Royce can do the same but doesn’t and it’s makes sense. We humans like tactile touch. This won’t work in the long run. I love my old merc more and more each time I see videos of the new ones. Bullet proof it is.
    Thanks Thomas. Appreciate your candor especially when it comes to the interior. One more reason not to buy one off the bat.

      Honestly, if I were to spend 150K or 200K on a new Mercedes-Benz S Class, it means I could spend even more on a car.
      That's why, in such case, I'd certainly prefer by far to buy a Bentley for 250K, or even a Rolls-Royce. No doubt.

      I wouldn’t necessarily agree. I think the outgoing interior design has its classic exuberant looks about it and the new interior is more minimalistic and modern. I like the new interior as well if you look at it as its own entity. I think the use of capacitive buttons and black piano plastics is more of a concern than the interior

    • @shantoshseewooruttun5105
      @shantoshseewooruttun5105 3 роки тому +5

      A large luxury car should be designed and styled like one, that is, an S-Class like an S not like a CLS, CLE and so on in swollen mode. The W223 looks like a swollen coupe. The front interior does not even look like a car but more like a virtual cockpit or that of a test car with those floating screens, nearly no buttons or dials and blank-like dashboard. Some people call this the modern look but modern does not mean throwing floating screens on blank-like backgrounds or in front and down of a 'crater'. The W223 simply does not look like an S-Class, and minus the grille and the star, it does not even look like a Mercedes-Benz exteriorly as such but more like a mixture of Jaguar models, Asian cars and other cars.

    • @grandcalifornia8410
      @grandcalifornia8410 3 роки тому

      @@shantoshseewooruttun5105 screens are the future in cars, so even if not now, Mercedes would have had to change the design of its S class interior. Because the S class is its class leading model they had to set the direction beginning with this model. I think the new design doesn’t look bad but it certainly is quite a departure from an opulent interior design in the outgoing model. Nothing is ever set in stone, things change constantly so we just have to learn to live with certain things. One of them is an over abundance of screens in new cars

    • @shantoshseewooruttun5105
      @shantoshseewooruttun5105 3 роки тому

      @@grandcalifornia8410 I am not against screens but I do not like how the front interior of the W223 looks with those screens and the background, and I also prefer some buttons and dials for certain things than all on touchscreen. Mercedes seems to be focusing on safety and yet they threw a big screen to control many things that would be so much easier and require less eye off the road if they were by dials or buttons. That is somewhat counter-acting. That front and rear exterior are such a turn-off. This car looks like a swollen coupe, not like an S. The headlights and tail-lights are those that fit the coupe styles not the limousine-styles. If I was in the market for a luxury limousine-style car, I want it be like one and not like a enlarged sports coupe that when every time I look at it, it feels that something is wrong. I agree with you that things change and will change, and we have to adapt to certain things, but not when it comes to things that you will buy with your own money and spend part of your life in it. For me it is simple, like buy, and not like, do not buy. Not because something is termed as modern or of the future that we have to accept it or buy it. Buying a luxury high-end car that will be be kept for more than 5 years is like buying a house if the customer is someone that will care on how his car look aesthetically to his taste. There is also functionality, comfort and convenience. It has to be to our liking and taste to a certain minimum. Of course, nothing is perfect and there can be some compromise, but the W223 has too many turn-offs (most of which are aesthetics) despite the positives such as the technology. We have to express our opinions so that people know what we looking for.

      I actually think it's more 'visually relaxing'. If the screen was flush like in the A6 it's not quite inclined enough and you're more distracted by the surrounding trim and background vision since there is no elevation and border.
      I think it's actually very clever by Mercedes. True innovation will never appeal to the mainstream at the start. I appreciate the 'Stuck-on' tablet design for those reasons but really, it's part of a more elevated centre console design if you examine it.

    Previous generation S Class with horizontal design interior feels spacious. New S Class vertical infotainment presentation between driver and passenger appears to make cabin look smaller. How does it feel when driving? Does the infotainment screen intrude on your right leg/knee while driving?

    I would really examine the knowledge of the current design department at Daimler. Have they ever seen the previous S class models? seriously, how can you possibly see those cars and end up with such a stupid interior design. Now, I hate Tesla more! the idea of using a big display in the purpose of money-saving in the cars was established by them. damn stupid.

      I kindly disagree.
      This is the 1st S class that I love everything about. I loved the previous model's interior but not it's dated exterior, especially is 'slopey' angled front grille. This for me gets the Exterior finally right. The grille is passive aggressive that is a very quirky but accurate reference to snobbish or High society in general. And I don't mind the screen overload inside, why not?

    Thank you again. One _Autogefühl_ video so close to another. I feel so blessed. I have seen the car in person in a showroom, as I have said in the Caddy video, but sadly have not driven it, so I cannot speak from that perspective yet. Next year I will drive it. For now, I would really love to give my initial thoughts on the new flagship model. Note that my thoughts are not finalized because I have not lived with the car yet. These are just initial thoughts.
    So, let's get into it. Here is what I love and don't love.
    Before we really start, I have to say, that rear-axle steering is really a blessing for me. As someone who drives the previous S-Class (pre-facelift long wheelbase) quite often, I know the struggle of an extremely large S-Class. Just looking at the clips demonstrating the rear-axle steering is making me weep for joy. I have already shown the owner the rear-axle steering (and the rest of the car. They are also happy. They are interested in this car. They may buy. 99% possible.
    The exterior:
    I really love how this car looks, especially the back lights with the three-dimensional LEDs. It has a really fancy and cool effect. The paint of mine was a beautiful black with no AMG line. I like the non-AMG line one more. This is a first in a while. Typically for previous S-Class models I love the AMG line one more. I really like the more sleek styling. It is still a massive car, but it does hide its size better than if it were more stately.
    The interior:
    The version I got was the one with the brown wood trim with the aluminum strips. Extremely beautiful. It really does have that yacht effect with the curved dashboard. My favourite part is the rear area. Very lovely. With that being said, even though I love the interior...there is this special touch missing. The car is special, yes, but there is this feeling that is missing. I can't explain it well. Hopefully, I can find someone who has actually *extensively* experienced the car in person like I did, and maybe they feel the same. Maybe not. That would be a great discussion. As I said, I drive the V222 (pre-facelift) with the exclusive steering wheel quite often, so that feeling does not translate. With that being said, I understand 100% why the new S-Class is like this, and there are all great reasons. I respect that. That is why I am not upset about that. Oh, and about the piano in the centre area. It can be matched with some of the dashboard trim. This car in the video with that interior trim on the dashboard can be added on the centre console where the gloss it. It is an option. Anyway, the car is really comfortable and spacious. I can spend forever in there. I wonder how it feels when moving.
    Ergonomics:
    I do not think the ergonomics are bad, but I do not think they are a big step up from the previous one. I do love the screen. It is a high quality screen with an amazing processor and software. That is a huge plus. I can go on forever about the impressive engineering of the screen and a lot of the car, but let's save that for a later stage. The three-dimensional view is trippy. I love it. Definitely a fancy feature.
    Okay, now I will get into my problem with it. I am not happy with typing this part, but I have to be honest. My problem is that one of the things I love about Mercedes-Benz is that there are so many various options to control the infotainment. That is the one of those luxury things I really love about their cars. With this S-Class, they have removed some of that. Yes, the excellent voice assistant is there to help, but the choice to use something else besides the voice assistant was also there. For this car, it is either the touch screen, the steering wheel, gestures, or voice. In other Mercedes-Benz models, it was those four options...plus the physical hot keys and the touchpad. The hot keys and the touchpad were more convenient. And it is not just the variety I love, it is the method in which those varieties where implemented. Here is what I mean. Let's take the 2020 GLS. To operate the system, I have several ways. Touch screen, touchpad steering wheel, hot keys, gestures, and voice. All of these things have a unique feel and motion to them when operating. The touchscreen...was a touchscreen that felt like a screen that I swipe with my index finger. The touchpad felt different to the screen. The steering wheel swipe things felt different to the touchscreen and touchpad, which I swipe with my thumb. The hot keys were buttons with quality feel to them, which I press. The gesture control felt like wizardry, which I whoosh my hands. With this new S-Class, however, some of the different methods to control the system feel the same. The screen feels like a screen, which I swipe. The steering wheel kind of feels like the screen, which I swipe. The hot keys (with dynamic selects, cameras, volume, etc) feel like the steering wheel, which I swipe. Yes, the steering wheel also has press, but they don't feel too emotionally different to the screen, unlike the in the GLS where the pressing of all the different methods felt...different. I feel I am getting the same feedback using different methods to operate the same thing. I liked it more when all the different methods of operating the system felt...different. It felt like Mercedes-Benz was considering all my different human touch sensations with the cold metal buttons, to the glossy swipe, to the softer touchpad. For this S-Class, most of the different methods of operating the system feel the same. That variety feeling is missing, but not gone. It does not feel quite there...even though it is. I hope I am making sense.
    The verdict:
    Do I love this S-Class more than the previous one? Overall...yes I do. I love it a lot. However, when Mercedes-Benz refresh their cars from an outgoing model to a new one I am always in awe of how the jump is so large. Take a look at the new GLE, the GLS, CLA, GLA, A-Class, even the facelift E-Class, etc. These new models are so ahead of the previous ones, I never look back. For these cars, I never wish for much, if anything, from the older ones to be put in the newer ones. The never ones always reset the bar and are such a high improvement with little to no drawbacks. That is why I love Mercedes-Benz so much. Their cars are so good. However, with this new S-Class, even though the jump forward is large, there are more drawbacks with this new model than any other new Mercedes-Benz models I mentioned. Notice that I said I never look back when I see the new one. For this S-Class W223...I am looking back at W222 more than I would like, more than I have any Mercedes-Benz model in years. That is terrifying. Worse because this is their flagship model. Sadly, this comparison is mostly unfair because I have driven those cars, but not this S-Class. My verdict of those cars setting a new bar and being huge improvements is helped with how they drive, not just ergonomics and innovations. I extensively look at the entire package of a car, not just some of it. That is just how I look at cars.
    Back to the S-Class. Now, let me be very clear: I absolutely am for change. I love change. I am always open to change and innovation, and I am willing to keep an open mind and try it out extensively, even if the initial sight of that change or innovation is puts a bit if doubt with me or if other people hate it. I do not care how other people feel. I want my opinions based purely on my experience, not someone else's experience or feelings. I am always open-minded. And as I have mentioned in the Caddy video, my thoughts on the cars ergonomics are in pencil because I have not driven and lived with the car like I do with other Mercedes-Benz models yet. We shall see.
    Overall, I really love this car. I love so much about it. I have even said that this car is in my top five favourite S-Class models. The level three and four autonomous systems in this car are incredible. The way this car is produced is incredible. What this car stands for is incredible. The new Factory 56 is so impressive in what they achieved, and it won't be long until all Mercedes-Benz cars are produced this way. This car is still a benchmark...like so many of its ancestors. But unlike most its ancestors, it is a benchmark not just how it is as it stands, but also how it is built. This is my dream car. It is absolutely fabulous.
    Those are my initial thoughts. I just noticed that this comment is extremely long, and I have not even mentioned everything I wanted to say. This is only 40% of what I wanted to say. This is the "short wheelbase" version of my thoughts, lol. I am so sorry that it is so long, but I hope it was not a pain to read, Thomas. Cheers. Have a great day. 🤗

    I thought luxury brands spend alot of time tuning their physical controls for a luxurious feel, but for this car, they completely threw that out. Capacitive touch buttons and an Ipad, in a 100k Mercedes? This is a god damn joke. I can't even make the cost saving argument for this the way I can for the VW's and teslas. This is unacceptable from Mercedes Benz and Autofuhl should have gone harder this.

All interesting, but at 33:30 I don't like it with these modern cars when you get messages on the screen(s) you have to read and take you eyes off the road... no such distractions in that 1979 W116 S-Class you drove in August. Wonderful review and superbly delivered. Watch his A8L 2021 review in Norway. He is much more excited about that car :). Driving an A8L 2020 I was extremely interested to drive one as you drove here but that one had no rear entertainment package yet the long base. It happened last week after waiting for the car for 2 months. All in one I experienced a very quiet and soft drive, precise steering, and braking but this is all about it. Everything else I experienced is probably better on A8L. Your observations with respect to the screens and usability were spot on. It felt awkward and unfinished in comparison to A8L where everything flows superbly with the climate section fully separated for easy access. Not to talk about the A8L cockpit design and how the maps are displayed. The seats were a real disappointment compared to A8L which cover your posture very well including the shoulders. I tried hard to configure the seat to like it but I gave up easily. The plain Burmeister audio system didn't impress me and forces my hand for an additional $7000 upgrade. At the end of the test drive, I pulled next to my car and compared the exterior designs. I saw a dull and boring look compared to my A8L which has a more dominant presence and refined lines (it's just me and that is personal). Price-wise here in Canada, this S580 starts from $145,000, and getting carried on with packages easily jumps over $200,000. Since such a car speaks for 1% of us this price is not an issue however where to compare the value to the price you might reach some grim conclusions. If you want to make a statement of richness probably Maybach is better suited or Bentley. Bottom line! Not my car.
