Ten degree rear-wheel steering, in the UK?? Really? I suspect the reason you've not driven one, with that option, is that it's not available in a right-hand drive car. Please check this. It's almost a deal breaker, in terms of making this a daily driver. Tragic, given all the other features (and the lack of a comfortable top-end alternative, since they exited the luxury Coupe market).
Didn’t like the new design at first, but it’s growing on me….I wish they didn’t discontinue the s coupe, which I think is the most beautiful car Mercedes makes
Yeah I agree with you! I preferred the W222 and the new one looked weird to me but now I think the new S-Class is one of the most beautiful cars they’ve made. Also sad about the S-Coupe because it is the perfect mix between luxury and sportiness
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I agree with you to an extent. It's not miles better, but the previous dashboard literally could belong in an art museum, its a sculpture.
Finally someone who understands that high quality materials and a premium feel of the hardware are only one part of the puzzle to obtaining that „luxury“ branding! Metal buttons and Nappa leather only get you so far, but when I actually interact with the car‘s technology, I don’t want to be feeling like I’m using something that could be running Windows 98. I want it to feel just as cutting-edge as an iPhone or a modern TV. I want to control things with my voice, just like I do at home, I want big screens, just like I have at home. The car is the famous „third space“ in my life, and it shouldn’t feel years behind the others. That‘s what I always disliked about Rolls Royce for example. Just feels outdated. I think we have been holding cars to a different standard than other tech for too long. If you wouldn’t like the UX on your Computer or in your home, there‘s no excuse for having it in your car!
@@RemoveBeforeRace "Dynamism" aside, is it noticeably quieter and more comfortable? I find with the previous one it just wasn't as quiet as reviewers say it is. In fact, it was pretty annoyingly loud for being the "quietest car in its class", and I found both the 7 Series (Pre facelift) and A8 (Facelift, old model) to be noticeably quieter than the previous S-Class. Edit: At higher speeds of course, talking 130/140km/h+. The S I tried was on 17s, the rivals on 20s.
@@tcaudiobooks737 It's been the same narrative for years, S-Class is always a step ahead, this that, just copy/paste. I just don't see it. Especially this new one, it trades luxury for piano black plastics everywhere and tech, it's missing the class of the previous generation. The A8 pulls off the modern technology and luxury blend nicely, this misses the mark completely for me, like it's trying too hard.
@@SwiftHDX The A8 is two generations behind when it comes to UX. The experience just isn’t there. Yes it’s quieter, I think you may be able to perceive that in the video too!
Technology and comfort is on the side of the S class. However, I would never pick the S500 with certain extras over the E63S AMG being in the similar price range.
Never see diesel versions here in the US. My mom had the 300 SE when the S class had that chunky body lol. It was baby blue, which made it kinda cute actually. Those soft close doors...😍 the rear visors! Just remembered those! Don't like the rear in this/new C and E though.
But it‘s actually NOT plastic… it‘s the same material which is used in the grand pianos… gosh you guys need to feel and touch it in real life and speak with your merc dealer…….

Great video as always. But to me personally it doesn't FEEL that majestic as it should be, it looks good but is so much gimmicky that you lose the sensation of being in a car.
I’ve been very slow coming to the Mercedes party. Have had all the others and always found Mercs too clinical and lacking in character. I’ve just bought e300 from the mid 80’s as a bash/rally car to do charity events. I kinda get it now.
The only thing that puts me off just about all Mercs is the ammount of shiny plastic. As soon as you got in, that's what I noticed most! That's so distracting when driving!
Um…. It depends on which merc you are getting in.. also and what kind of extra package is ordered from the customer… 95% of the c-class owners aren‘t getting the leather expansion package. In this package every piece of „shiny plastic“ is in Nappa leather and can even be ordered with contrast stitching. And for example the „shiny plastic“ in the middle console (the black one) here is not plastic. It‘s actually piano trimm which is used in the black grand pianos…. A mess with fingerprints but it‘s NOT plastic…
one off the best review ever, nice work on image as well. as for this 223 i did not like to see those monitors, 222 was nice, classic and modern. maybe ne day i will accept and buy one.

Aesthetically, I still prefer the previous generation. The facelift V222 is, in my opinion, one of the best looking cars Mercedes has ever built. While I accept that the new car may be better in many ways (I do like the new tech), I dislike the revised styling, and I strongly dislike capacitive buttons, and gloss black finishes anywhere in the cabin, let alone in an S-class. That massive centre console should be trimmed in wood, not gloss black, and those seat controls are a pain. What was wrong with the way it was before, where you actually move the buttons in the way you want to seat to move? What's wrong with actual buttons that you can press, made of classy brushed aluminium? It was intuitive, and logical! Quite frankly, I think Mercedes designers have lost the plot. The new Rolls-Royce Ghost is the perfect example of how to make a car that's ultra modern and contemporary, yet still looks and feels like a Rolls-Royce should.
You don’t have to use the controls at all anymore, the car can adjust the seat for you. Although less piano would in fact be nice. Then again RR is not really modern. Old tech, fuel guzzling etc

There's still plenty of shit boxes 11:00 kicking around. No excuse for cars today, to last under 300k, and at the least 250k on a atx. Mercedes with basic maintenance get between 300k - 500k miles before any major problems. For some reason BMWs still leak oil everywhere and Audi's are still lagging behind in reliability, and are one of the hardest brands to work on. Honda and Mercedes are the 2 easiest brands to work on imo. If Lexus could fix there trash ride quality, I'd put them over Mercedes as having the best full size sedan. 1. Merc. (high reliability, highest ride) 2. BMW (high reliability, high ride) 3. Audi (avg. reliability, high ride) 4. Lexus (highest reliability, avg. ride)

@@i.s.3458 His model S will do the speed and thrill thing for him, this is his chill mobile. For that, S500 is great. BMW 740i in Luxury trim would be my choice though.
I hate having extreme viewpoints on cars, but this car (along with the new 2 series, M3, M4, E-Class, C-Class) is just an eyesore to look at. The interior is a let-down too, with too much tech and not much class and elegance that once made the S-Class great. Even if this car is objectively and technologically excellent, it’s just so ugly and looks too commanding compared to the previous generations, which were just subtle and beautiful.
It seems hard for Mercedes to handle software. They were first to introduce a smart key, but then ... fall behind of competitors, especially Tesla. So currently I see some mix of Android and a cow.

It’s quite disappointing they used a cheap Samsung tablet when Samsung has extremely high end tablets they could’ve incorporated.
1. Merc. (high reliability, highest ride)
2. BMW (high reliability, high ride)
3. Audi (avg. reliability, high ride)
4. Lexus (highest reliability, avg. ride)
I need your help, i am currently driving an s63amg 4matic plus, and i want to upgrade, i am interested in both the new s500 and the bentley continental w12, which one would you recommend? I also have an order placed on a tesla model s plaid that will be delivered in march, so i guess tech and power are both covered with that one, but what would you choose as a driver the s500 or the continental w12?
Bentley, why would you downgrade to an S500
@@i.s.3458 His model S will do the speed and thrill thing for him, this is his chill mobile. For that, S500 is great. BMW 740i in Luxury trim would be my choice though.
I can't stand that much technology in a car. Sometimes simple is better.
Mercedes s400d versions do not have e-active body control. So consider this before making your decision.
Wait does the “S” in S-class actually stand for safety?
You got to get a car with a steering wheel on the left side ...
It seems hard for Mercedes to handle software. They were first to introduce a smart key, but then ... fall behind of competitors, especially Tesla. So currently I see some mix of Android and a cow.
This should be referred to as the Sovereign Class.
