Here's how I turned IKEA kitchen cabinets into a dining bench for my own breakfast nook:
Do you have a small, unused corner in your home that's just begging for a makeover? Well, today's UA-cam video is just for you! I'm going to show you how to create a cozy and functional breakfast nook using an innovative IKEA hack that will blow your mind. So, buckle up and get ready to be inspired!
In this makeover, I transformed a tiny, neglected space in my sister's home into a charming breakfast nook that's perfect for enjoying morning coffee or working from home. We chose a fresh color scheme of white & blue, accented with pops of vibrant hues to give the space a fresh, inviting feel. And here's the best part: we did it all on a budget! This high end looking nook cost us less than $1000 CDN.
Now, let's talk about the star of the show - the ingenious IKEA hack that took this nook from drab to fab. We repurposed the versatile NORDLI dresser units from IKEA into a stylish and functional dining bench that fits seamlessly into this new design. Not only does it provide comfortable seating, but it also offers a clever storage solution for keeping the nook clutter-free.

It’s lovely! Your sister is so lucky to have you bring your expertise to her home. ❤️
Thank you! ❤
You did a phenomenal job on this! What a nice family affair; your dad and you working together to give something special to your sister.
Thanks so much!
Great use of space. Kitchens are always difficult. When you move in you think,
" what can I do to make this space work?"
When you just spent all of your savings to purchase the house.
Way to help, Christina and dad.
I could totally see a 70’s style swag light over the table! Such a beautiful makeover!!!!
That's such a huge improvement. That pantry cupboard is certainly in an awkward place; I'd be tempted to just drywall over it since you've created so much extra storage. Adding the lift so the drawers operate smoothly is just the thoughtful step you can be counted on to do. That's a pretty space.
Thank you! The pantry is well used and still needed, so they're going to keep it.
@@thediymommy is there a possibility that the pantry door be placed on the other side? It looks like there is a room behind the kitchen/dining room(?)
Beautiful bright breakfast corner. Love the extra Nordli storage.
I would only add a recessed handle to the pantry door, which could be more comfortable to sit against.
Beautiful as always! Thank you for sharing. What a blessing for your sister ❤️
That turned out awesome!!! What a nice place for your sister and her family to gather! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Would love a follow up video on exactly how you dealt with the pantry: how many inches did you trim the door, did you have to remove the bottom hinge, how hard is it to acess the bottom shelf of the pantry? Great idea beautifully executed.
Fabulous. I would love to do that at my house.
LOVE the blue color. 😍 I wonder if it would’ve worked to take the board and batten up to the height of the pantry door, and space it out the same width as the door. Then the pantry could completely disappear! Maybe. That extra height may have looked weird?? 🤔🤷🏻♀️ Looks great as is!
Wow, what a transformation - lucky sister 😍
Lucky sister! What a beautiful transformation!
Wow. Really makes the space look larger. Love the colors.
Beautiful and practical!
Looks beautiful, your sister is going to enjoy her new space for a very long time. I would like to do something like it in my kitchen just with less decorating pillow. Great job.
What a great idea. It looks great!❤
Gorgeous! Love it! I was looking for a solution for a dining nook in a 1973 aframe style home that my husband and I are renovating, so glad I came across your video!
Looks amazing! I would love something like this!
Oh wow, absolutely love it. What a big difference it made. 😊🇨🇦
Lovely space! Your sister may want to change the color of the kitchen cabinets. Well done!
Definitely given me the confidence to do this in our dining space!
What a blessing you were to them! It came out amazing!!!

Wow! What a change, it looks so bright , beautiful and inviting, amazing transformation.
Great job.😁👍
You would be a very handy sister to have! 😊
So good!! I loved the bench with the ikea storage drawers inspired me to do something similar. You are the best in explaining things too love it
Enjoyed your video, Im moving into a small home with same layout and this video hit the spot!! Love the colors too! Thanks again❤
What an impact! Beautiful transformation.
It's gorgeous! Such a clever use of space to make it useful and beautiful too. I'm sure your sister and brother in law will enjoy it every day. Not just good to look at but so much extra storage too! Ingenious.😊👍💕
This is genius. It looks so beautiful and colorful. Great space.
I LOVE it!
Oh man, I want this! Turned out great.
WOW! Stunning transformation Christina! 💛
Beautiful as usual!
Wow! What a lovely transformation! ❤
It’s so cute! You are a hard worker and very talented… great job!
I love this! As always, Christina, you did a beautiful job with this makeover!!! I'm not big on bright colors, but I really like how this all came together! The colors work so well together! Thanks for sharing! Much love to you and yours from Virginia ❤
Love this makeover. Such an awkward corner into a great dining nook or casual workspace. The colours are the best!
That looks so nice. I like the choice of paint colors and the board and batten.
Wow Christina!! This is beautiful, great ideas, great tutorial. Most importantly, made with love. Thanks for sharing.
stunning!!! ✨✨
Super cute, tons of storage. It's perfect for that corner.
Light fixture - You mentioned there's none above the table. What about the ones that aren't hard wired, the puck lights operated by a remote in a cute pendant light, she could add later.
Nicely done!
Thanks so much! There's recessed lighting in the ceiling already. 😊
Beautiful. What a great job. I like how you use things for different purposes
Beautiful transformation!
Amazing 👏
What a transformation it looks amazing!!
Love this! Great job
What a charming kitchen nook! I really appreciate how much functionality you gave to this small space. Well thought out and well executed! Thanks for sharing!
Looks great! I love the green chairs. Has your sister thought about painting the cabinets?
So bright and cheerful! Love it! :D
Seriously stunning, and the IKEA hack is so clever. Just wondering if you had looked at any options to replace the handle on that little pantry door? It just looks like an injury waiting to happen to me. Unfortunate location for it, but you did a great job making it still functional with everything built around it.
Beautiful. This is EXACTLY what I've been looking for as a solution in my dining room. Great job.
Nice 😊
Nice job, now you can paint her cabinets 😂 Kidding or not, I know she would love what you did!
This turned out fabulous! Great job
Turned out so beautiful. You did an awesome job. Love the color scheme. Thanks for sharing, Christina ❤
It turned out amazing. Absolutely love it.
Wow it looks amazing! Great job 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
This looks gorgeous! Your sense of design, your attention to detail and your sense of colour really stand out. Your sister must love having your input and expertise. Seriously well done!
Such fantastic work! I love it all!!!
Omgosh that breakfast nook is gorgeous!!!! ❤❤❤❤
Absolutely gorgeous ! So clever and all your hard work .
A small door knob may save people bumping/leaning into it in the corner 😊
Love this, Christina! Amazing job!
Beautiful, bright, and fresh. So are you painting the kitchen cabinets now? It kind of looks like two different kitchens, if you know what I mean. So exciting having a new home to make your own, congrats to your sis and brother-in-law! 🤗
Thank you! They're going to keep the dark cabinets because they like the look.
@@thediymommy It matters that they love it! I am really happy they could get a home to call their own. I have two kids around your age and to see young people be able to buy these days makes my heart happy. Living in the Okanagan is impossible for my kids to ever buy their own home, which is sad. Again congrats to your sis and her hubby, all the best. 🙂
Last fall, I repurposed a Nordli window seat bench (2x2 long drawers side by side) into a dining nook and ran into the same issue you did - the Nordli was too tall for the table. It didn't occur to me to remove the thick bottom board. [facepalm] Thank you for that idea!!! This weekend we flipped that puppy over, replaced the board with 1/4" scrap plywood as you did so the drawers clear the floor, and now the bench functions perfectly in relation to the table. So good! Thank you! #loveyourchannel
looks great Christina! Love it all!!!
What a wonderful job you did it look stunning. Congratulations. I’m sure your sister will love it because I do.
Thank you so much!
Love it! I want to do this in my tiny kitchen!
Turned out great! I did something similar in my last kitchen. I loved having the extra storage.
Precioso!
Un rincón muy acogedor y muy bien aprovechado!!!
👍😊😘🇪🇸
Id Love to have a Sister like you xx. God Bless you all xx
Looks great!! One thing I would have done was paint the top part of the cabinet door the blue color to blend in with the wall.
Great job, the colours are beautiful!
The space is now both practical and beautiful:-D
Beautiful transformation! So functional too!
You really scaled up that space. Well done.
Love it - great job and thanks for sharing all the steps! I’m in the middle of redoing my sister’s laundry room/half bath and there are some good tips/reminders in here about things to be aware of or ways to address potential issues. Super helpful! 😊
So pretty! I love the "juicy" colors 😄 We did something similar using the Besta line at Ikea, it's saved us so much space and is great for adding additional seating!
it looks amazing. you did such a good time with the idea, the building and the decorating. one of the best ikea hacks i have ever seen
Thanks so much! 😊
Fabulous and so fresh looking!
Great job with useong the space and integrating it the current kitchen
I love those green chairs, I would be at that breakfast area every morning.

Beautiful transformation!! Love it!! Great job!
