  • In this video I build a simple breakfast nook and kitchen table out of 2x4, plywood, and pine 1x4 from Home Depot. This piece was for a client who chose to finish (stain) the wood on their own. Got questions? Leave them in the comments!

    I juat got done building my bench based on this videos design this last weekend. I built mine to wrap around my dining room though (two 72 inch sections connected by a 40 inch section). Hopefully I'll be able to start the table this weekend.

    The first half of the ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx3ICSK6nSknaL_45CU2NmFSoXjarGMDiJ book is everything about wood: types, tools, finishes, setting up shop etc. The second half is all about doing projects for inside and outside of the home. The color pictures are helpful. After reading a dozen of these types of books, this is probably the best overall (layout, color photos, plans). Only detraction is that many of the projects use a table saw/router/planer, which are usually expensive and take up space, so the plans are less friendly to newcomers and the budget conscious. But I know I can use a drill, circular saw or a jigsaw to make the projects.

    I ran the last section of your vid twice to make sure my eyes were not deceiving me. I definitely saw you turn the table saw off with your foot! Acrobatic woodworking, no less! I'd be flat on my back if I tried this, being over 70 and no longer elastic. Well done! Nice project.

    Nice build and great result but by far the most impressive thing was the ease with which you hop up on your mahoosive table and then work on it as though it’s the floor 😂👍🏻. First time I’ve seen that on YT. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻🍻

    Good grief, your table saw table , no Lol, is bigger than my entire kitchen and dining room foot print. ( Jealous, Lol)
    My son has designed something quite similar for my dining room which leaves a nice clean open feel to the dining room and kitchen. In order to achieve this, I have to totally remove a wall shelf unit from the previous owner. In place of the Open shelving, I will make a wall sized pantry.
    Your video is very well lit, good audio, good material. My smaller dining room will become my temporary workshop. I really liked the storage inside the seats. This is A huge benefit .. my current dining room table will become the seat tops.
    You have done a remarkable job here. Not only have I learned a few things with pin nailing , I can get a good sense how my own table and seats will look when completed. Well Done ,,

    Carpenters are some of the most under appreciated men. To each is own but damn a man that knows how to use tools and build something out of nothing is way more attractive to me than a pencil pusher. Wow. 😻

    For those asking for pricing, my cost was $573. I did slightly shorter dimensions - 60x66 - which makes for a 60 inch bench and a 48 inch bench. I painted it white. I used rental equipment, so your pricing may be different if you have the right tools. I also used birch plywood instead of pine which added $40. Wood was $214, supplies was $160, paint items were $78, and rental items were $121:
    Birch plywood x 2 = $114
    Pine 2x4 x 11 = $37
    Pine select 1x4 x 7 = $63
    Sawhorse = $32
    Trigger clamps = $24
    Construction screws = $26
    Safety glasses = $13
    Titebond glue = $9
    Sandpaper circles = $16
    Door hinges x 2 = $19
    Drywall screws = $6
    Pin nails = $11
    Caulk = $5
    Primer = $18
    White enamel paint = $42
    Paint brush = $17
    Miter saw rental = $66
    Table saw rental = $56

    Great Video nice details... One thing i'd like to note is your hand cuts with the skill saw are crooked.. I use a straight edge rail to make sure you dont get back wobble from the skill saw wanting to rock away from you. Also look into cabinet hinges recessed because the cushion is now gonna indent where the hinges are and create a bump in the seat. I like the way you placed your hinges but putting them inside would be a cleaner look. Keep up the good work everyday is a new lesson... Take Care!

    I’m currently trying to build this as we speak. The problem I’m having with it right now is your video doesn’t exactly match the visual plans. The visual plans make no mention of the cutouts for the storage nor the supports you have inside the frame for these cutouts. The visual plans also appear to have 13” horizontal braces but make no mention of the vertical supports in the middle of the frame that you added when putting on the plywood.
