Thanks for the training clip - I know I can take this to the practice range. I'm not one to take a bunch of gadgets to my practice area. This will work for me and I can always do the "noodle" thing at home. Do you guys remember the shot makers competition on TV a few years back where the smallish, black guy did really well in the competition with a cross-handed swing as his default swing? I was surprised how well he did with it.

I watched this last night and really tried to practice it and apply it. I played 18 today and was smoking my driver down the fairway. I hit 67% FIR. I stopped playing golf 15 years ago and got back into it and forgot how to get that deep shoulder turn and move towards my front foot. Thanks for putting this video/information out. Ok you guys fantastic analysis. I have been working on the swing for 30 years since I realised I was doing it all wrong. Think Persimmon Tony Jacklin driver. Mike Austin would be proud of you particularly recognising how the body falls forward in the backswing. Thank you, makes the pressure and weight shift and moment all fit together. Well done. Also recognising the lateral hip move/ tilt keeps the club out front. I have made every mistake you explain but you have explained why they destroy an athletic stretch to the top and enable activating the ground forces correctly. Thank you again for your honesty. The old Scottish Pros kept this quiet. Cheers Stevie from Tain which has a classic Tom Morris designed links course. Look me up if you are ever in Scotland

I don’t know if it is possible, but the pressure shift map makes more sense if you can flip it around and invert it. It makes sense to you because you see it that way all of the time. Otherwise everyone has to translate the whole time and it is probably less effective.
Super good content! I love the chemistry that you to have in these videos too.

I don't know if I have told you guys this before but I am subscribed to two golf sites - and you are one of them. Golf being what it is, I don't get it 100% of the time but your instructions are close enough to that target for me. Between the two sites, I have been able to make major breakthroughs in my swing. I made the mistake of being self-taught and I've been trying to retrain myself now for about ten years but most of my progress has been in the last couple because of people like you that have learned how to teach. Somehow reading books just hasn't been enough. Excellent job, and thank you for the help. TW :)

I note that Shawn' s right leg remains vertical during his backswing. That means his right hip is moving straight backwards as his hips "rotate". That's counter to the ancients' teachings (Hogan's rt leg was slanting towards the target at the top). The Brits have suggested that keeping the position of that rt. knee constant in transition and as the right arm drops sets one up for levelling of the hips through impact, and helps prevent the slide, early release, and the dreaded SUWTBG (stand up where'd the ball go??) maneuver. And it's a simple key to remember. I'm still baby-stepping (after 3+yrs), but this key has left me stable enough to let the hands whip a bit. Next step for me is to "hold" at a full finish position, then try to fill in the blanks. ***I'd love to close my eyes to feel the pressure distribution. But my eyes have become my cerebellum and vestibular system. I close 'em, I've got a mouthful of dirt. pk

Another great video explanation Mike, Shaun, so can I check with you as I'm a bit confused, contrary to what many teachers say about weight shifting towards the trail heel at the top, you're saying not to do that, but to keep your weight/pressure through the middle/arch of the trail foot. Have I understood you properly?

weight transference on the backswing- both, to and fro- is dependent on the "inside muscles" of the right leg. when the inside muscles are active, the weight will follow the club- from a face on perspective. the club moves away from the target in the takeaway and moves towards the target in the second half of the backswing.

Love your Channel, am a subscriber & anxiously await new videos. Have a question about the backswing / takeaway. I’m 48 with two total hip replacements (lifetime of hockey). Up here in Alaska so all the drills you provide are being used in the winter. I tend to sway off the ball in my takeaway and have found the Mike Austin hip pivot to be an easy way to let my hips flow naturally while keeping my head from swaying off the ball. I’m also noticing that not many other instructors teach the Austin pivot & seems to me that they call the move towards the ball a sway that tends to get stuck on the follow thru when you slide the hips forward. Also, I’m noticing that when Austin explains the hip / pivot slowly that it looks a bit different when he’s swinging ‘live’. Ad a matter of fact. It looks like what you do at AMG. Is this because it’s just more of a ‘feel’ for him ? Can you talk about this in a video perhaps with some deeper explanation. Basically how to go from the swinging (sway) of the hips forward to a complete natural finish. Because when I let my hips move freely in the pivot to forward I do get stuck (perhaps early extension) I’ve got a problem getting all the way to the finish after getting weight to my lead side if I don’t super concentrate or get lucky. Please HELP

    • @AthleticMotionGolf
      @AthleticMotionGolf  4 роки тому +2

The issue really revolves around when the slide takes place. All good swings have a lateral move forward. When it becomes an issue is when that lateral move happens too late. The ideal window is between left arm parallel in the backswing to left arm parallel in the downswing. After that, the lateral should be stabilizing into impact👍

What are your thoughts regarding a Linear Pressure Tracing on Swing Catalyst with an mid iron. Do you guys have data on the size of the gap between backswing and downswing pressure tracings with correlation to contact results?

    • @AthleticMotionGolf

think of the trace in terms of smooth direct lines vs squiggles and stalls. The former will typically produce longer/straigther lines but they're the result.
Can you explain what you mean by gap between back and downswing traces? Want to make sure I answer what you're asking.

I would like the graphic video of the pressure to match his feet in other words flip it over because looking at his left foot, it was on my right, it was very difficult to visually watch the backswing see the pressure increase on right foot appearing the wrong side of the screen. That might just be me, thanks keep up the good work.

So simple and yet I'm an idiot for always forgetting. I always slam into the heel for some reason. Trying to get back to my plus handicap days and the laces are the key. If it's in the heel, I can feel my mass lagging behind and I hit pulls.

Pressure pads are the most impactful technology in golf teaching in history imo.
This was golden. I look forward to transition video. So I have a slight cincern. Seems to me we shouldn't be able to get off the left heel in a static continuous way as you showed here. That would imply a wt shift not a pressure shift. I realize you are demonstrating what things would be at the snapshot moment of the top, and you'll probably refine things at transition next time. But my view is that the de-weight of the left pressures the right for an instant then we fall back into the left. This happens very fast. Pressure shifts not weight shifts if you will.
And I think the best way to do it is with left hip flexion and a little more left knee flexion as we rt knee extend.
So the drill concerns me a little. But I'm not a big fan of static backswing top positions cause I see the lower body already going left by top of the swing . I do think this drill would help a lot of horrible problems but I also think it would require a different timing and be just a pass through sensation in a continuous motion with the pressure shifts I tried to describe.
Anyway. I absolutely love the work you guys do.

    • @AthleticMotionGolf

Another case of out of sight is out of mind for me. I hope that this video will help folks conceptualize the concept of pressure as it applies to a natural athletic motion, such as the arms staying in front of the body during the back-swing. It is a lot more difficult to wrap the arms behind you if you keep the pressure in the ankle during the back-swing instead of the heel.
