I heard about Napalm Death from the HBO show Silicon Valley. One of the characters had an alarm in the office that blasted the song You Suffer every time Bitcoin dropped below a certain value.
Man, grindcore was actually my entry genre into metal :D I was into a lot of extreme EDM before metal, and I often found grindcore alongside it in playlists and search results. It was Anaal Nathrakh in specific, the way they mix really heavy grindcore with melodic solos and clean singing was so interesting to me I had to find out more, and that's how I got into metal lol.
If you wanna dip your toes in, I recommend wormrot. Listened to them for the first time in a long time yesterday, and I couldn't stop grinning, feeling like an overstimmed kid or something.
I love grindcore. I thought it was ridicolous at first, and it kinda is, but there are bands that use the fast chaotic approach to create some of the most interesting and forward-thinking metal: Brutal Truth, Pig Destroyer, Discordance Axis, Gridlink, Fuck the Facts, Naked City, Cephalic Carnage, Today is the Day, The Berzerker, Genghis Tron, and so on.
Saw Napalm Death this summer. Barney seems like one if the nicest and most wholesome lead singers in a band with such an aggressive sound. He was wearing a shirt supporting the indigenous population of my country and held a great speech about trans rights. He also went absolutely insane on stage as usual. Also good band.
I remember bands like Bolt Thrower and Godflesh being lumped into the grind genre when they started. I had some fun times with grind back in it's earliest days. Shout out to Old Lady Drivers and Splatarrhea.
Same but I found them in HS & heard the later stuff first when they slowed down. When I found classic grind ND (Scum & FETO) I was like wooaaahh this shit is nasty. Been into old school/modern good grind ever since
@@ThomasWake1 I’m fb friends with Mick Harris & he does the occasional bitter rant abt how napalm death is just a circus act these days & he’s not wrong
It's easy to do grindcore. It's hard to do grindcore well. Early Carcass, Blood, early Napalm Death, Pathologist, Repulsion, Dead Infection, Terrorizer, a few bands from Japan and a few grindcore influenced bands like Impaled Nazarene hit the mark.
When talking about sungenres of grind I think it’s important to mention mincecore which took the musical style or goregrind and pornogrind and changed it lyrically to go back to its roots in punk ideology
The Death Metallers taking the blast beat and mutually inspiring anyone in grind occurred well after true Grindcore was fully formed.Repulsion and a few others would def be influential down the road. By the time of Morbid Angel, Deicide, the groundwork for the later 90’s and 2000’s Death Metal rise and the fading out of true grindcore.
this goes for all music but grind specifically: you need good speakers to appreciate a grind album. cock and ball torture through tv speakers is heart and soul torture.
I wouldn't describe Grind as a mix of DM (and HC) because it kind of predates Death Metal or at least came out at the exact same time. It's not exactly influenced by Death Metal it's more of an evil twin and it's own thing entirely, a natural consequence of other genres than hardcore getting faster and harder. And so hardcore reacted and outdid the Slayers and Celtic Frosts.
Drop Dead are awesome. Was one of the first hardcore bands I heard from later generations (first hardcore bands I ever heard were cro mags and black flag while still in high school. most kids were into Nirvana or Terrorvision and sh1t... TBH I liked both of those bands as well, but I was also going to gabba raves as well, so I gravitated towards the more heavy and extreme music)
This is damn accurate, but if you ever do pornogrind PLEASE do it some justice. Most people dont get its created solely for trolling and too many people fall for the joke thinking its legit. Also do goregrind thats got a colorful history.
Nails is a fine band, but I'd hesitate to put them in the Power-Violence pile. Not an especially important distinction, but also wish that tags on bandcamp weren't used as liberally as they are, so...
They went from anarcho punk (1981-1984), to crust punk (1984-1985), hardcore punk to grindcore from 1986 to late 80s and then to deathgrind in early 90s. Last 20 years or so I would say they successfully combine all of their phases and styles they had from the day one.
They only have one album that could even be considered classic death metal and that was the third full length. Were around YEARS before they did that album. We dont mention the groove period which is really just bland death metal. But the point is, I have no idea where you would get an idea like that.
the only grindcore I kind of know is napalm death, pig destroyer, full of hell, straight hate, terrorizer, cock and ball torture, and gut. I might buy some of them. I don't know to much grindcore that's it.
Saw a kid wear a shirt that said "I love grindcore" He quoted he's doing fine, I check his page and guess what. Cute goth gf. Time to get serious about this.
ND isn't grindcore anymore, if they even ever were before. Just because that one Yew was in the band. That's the only only reason why they called grindcore. Because a Yew has to be connected to everything to be relevant.
As a krautrock and progressive addict I can't even fathom the idea of a song being shorter than 1 minute. How do you get into the listening groove? I also ironically have ADHD which probably makes the least sense.
This video will probably be about the length of a grindcore album.
I f'n hope so.
Long ass album

Nah
7 minutes too long

yeah, goregrind especially gets mixed into hardcore edm playlists ive noticed which is interesting
Grindcore is like bizarro thrash, which melded all the goofiest friendly elements of metal and punk
never heard of this genre, but knowing coolea he’ll probably have good information, can’t wait for the stream to start
