There are many choices of handguns to try. You don't have to limit yourself. A Glock is definitely good for a beginner but once you progress enough you can move up to something like a Glock or a Glock. If you're not into those you can always try a Glock, or my personal favorite the Glock. If you're feeling real adventurous maybe even a Glock.

I love my Gen2 Glcock 17 and it saved my life a couple times on duty so it will always stay in my safe BUT a few years ago after I retired after 30 yrs mainly in police special units I bought a PPQ m2 9 5" and it just had that little bit more refinement, super trigger, excellent pointability and nice grip. Naturally it was a bit more than I paid for my Glock back in 1992 AND I upgraded just about everything under the hood of the glock to update its functionality but between the two I have excellent all around self defense and competition handguns. Out of all the years and ammo put through both I have had ZERO malfunctions and that is a testimony to the steady reliability of handguns. Though I am a Glock lover also, your points are very valid my friend. Thank you for the great content on your vids. Stay safe, keep shooting.

Not trying to play devils advocate but I've had horrible customer service from Smith and Wesson. I received a gen 2 shield with tool marks cutting through the rifling in the barrel, and it took 3 calls for them to even agree to take it back. When I described the issue to the last customer service guy he cut me off mid sentence and asked "is it excessive tool marks?" Must be a common problem . . .

The trigger is what steered me away. Everyone says "but its a hundred/two dollars cheaper than a sig" but the expense of replacing the trigger eats that up instantly, and if you dont do it yourself (its very easy but some arent comfortable doing it, i get that) it actually ends up costing way more.

    • @paulzietsman8443
      @paulzietsman8443 2 роки тому +1

Glock and SIG are comparable in price nowadays with Glocks even coming out more expensive. The trigger issue is really only a problem for anyone not using it for duty use; I would never change a Glock internal component, such as the trigger, because now you're compromising the overrated reliability.
They're not for everybody, I would much rather suggest a SIG for anyone considering buying their first/carry handgun.

It’s hard to put specifics on this but you know when you talk to a CS department whether or not you are being given the idiot treatment. The main appeal to me with Glock is their ubiquity. You can get Glock magazines, parts, accessories and holsters virtually anywhere guns are sold. Despite all their "imperfections" (see what I did there?) they remain the industry standard handgun and likely will for the next decade with the recent adoption by the FBI, Secret Service, Border Patrol, Coast Guard and so many other Police agencies. Although I do agree the market has become so hyper competitive that there are objectively superior options available if you are willing to give up the cottage industry of support that Glock has behind it.

Very well spoken, clear and concise. This makes me feel better about not caring for my Glock but loving my SIG 226. The SIG feels better, shoots better and doesn't claim to be dangerous with reloaded brass like the Glock. I still have the Glock because everyone thinks I must have one but I usually just leave it in the safe when I want to be serious at the shooting range.

I can share a cool little anecdote about glock reliability. I was a shooter in a research project done by the US military about pistol reliability and shot both the Glock 17 and the Glock 22 for it. Both pistols scored a mode value of 96/100 tied with the majority of other handguns we tested. The conclusion myself and other shooters came too was that pistol reliability among service weapons was basically an irrelevant talking point.

My wife has two Glock 19 pistols and loves them. One is a Gen 4 and the other is a Gen 3. I had to swap out her extractor part in the Gen 3 because it would eject erratically sometimes hitting her in the head at least once every mag or two. I thought it was her grip, but it happened to me and others.
My only complaint are the plastic stock sights. I do shoot high when shooting the G19, but you adjust and a shoot accurate enough with Glocks. I shoot extremely well with HK VP9 and VP9SK. For me it was good to have all of these pistols and transition to the one I currently carry. I would say we are all blessed with the various types of pistols to choose from. Not a crazy fan boy, but I really do love it. The beauty IS the simplicity & functionality. The odd grip angle: I think I shoot better with it. If you have to "get used to" the Glock grip angle, while you don't for another brand... then why would you ever carry a Glock for protection? In a life or death situation I don't want to have to remember to compensate for a bad grip angle. I want a gun that points naturally for me. That is the main reason I have never owned a Glock. I think they are decent guns otherwise. I'd like to find out why Glock chose the grip angle they did. It is very puzzling.

-the grip angle is very tilted and not ergonomical, if you shoot with other guns like 1911, you would have trouble getting used to the Glocks grip angle.
-Trigger feeling of the Glock is very bad, feels mushy and the end of travel feels hard, affecting the shooting accuracy.
There are other better options on the market like Springfield XD & CZ guns, that would be a better buy.

But after having a dozen Glocks since the mid 90's my main complaint is the grip shape and angle. The strongest point for me is the magazine reliability and selection. (Useable on my KelTec S2000.) It was the 2nd Gen 23 with an extra 9mm that unseated my 1911's, but I agree that now there are better choices. I can naturally point and shoot with the 1911 grip angle, but I shoot high with a Glock and I envy those that have the talent to switch back and forth.

I wasn't a fan of Glocks...until I was an owner of Glocks. After owning/tradings 100s of guns over the years, I can honestly say that for the price and functionality out of box, it's hard to compare to any other stock gun of the same price range

Was the problem that Glock wanted to charge for the fix or that they simply wouldn't offer the option to fix free or with fee?
Having one company say no to fixing a used gun vs. another company saying yes to fixing a gun that was dead-on-arrival isn't the same thing.

It was just a bad frame. They should have fixed it.

@@stopthephilosophicalzombie9017 bad frame or hot ammo?
A gun that doesn't work out of the box is a no brainer, but one that has been used excessively might warrant different questions, yet as a glock owner i know glock has to be able to handle hot ammo, so that defense (excuse) goes down the drain.
But I'd chalk it off to "glock USA didn't have their shit together", i hope they have improved.
Like millions of others i am happy with my purchase.

The grip angle of the Glock is why my first gun was a Ruger. The Glock didn't feel good to hold and didn't point naturally for me.

That is not the fault of Glock. You did the right thing and bought a gun that suited your hands...unlike most other people. Well done.

I work for a firearms school “Miami Gun Classes” and have put around 135K rounds truth the old M&P9 to the point we had to replaced the barrel as we no longer had a decent rifling in it. The M&P9 have been extremely reliable and on the other hand had many Glock pistol with problems....

Love my Glocks all stock internals and some of them even have the stock sights. I also love the support for aftermarket parts and the magazine support. Just the longest Pedigree of reliability over guns like the 509.

No matter how many times you hear that a Glock is a reliable pistol, keep in mind that it is actually one of the worst ever.
The polymer under body, lack of any safety at all (keep the firepin bullsh#t away,it is just a showpiece) and the ugly design,on top of other numerous defects make it one of the worse pistols.Just because it is made by an American company, doesn't mean it the best

Honest, I think the average gun owner hasn't got to shoot the other options; HK VP9, CZ P10C, CZ P07, M&P 2.0, Canik TP9, Walther PPQ etc. They buy there first maybe try a buddies and its all they know so they stay there. I like testing everything out so I can form my own opinions from actual hands on experience but thats not everyone.

I was spoiled bc the first pistol I owned was a vp9 that I won in a raffle, then a sig, then an MP and when I finally got around to buying a glock I was so disappointed with it I sold it so I could buy a canik

Unfortunately most are just too heavily invested in them, and why we keep buying them.
Love em, hate em, they really just work.

My favorite though is my 34 gen 4.

“They really just work”. So does HK, Walther, S&W and CZ, plus many others. Glock is not more reliable than many other brands.

I would like to get a new one but the price per feature ratio is stupid. A G19 should cost less or the same as the M&P 2.0 compact. The Blue Label price should be retail price

I agree, I Love My Gen 3 17! I Bought it from a Friend that was in a Tight for $300, $200 less than What He Paid New a Few months before I Bought it From Him! I want a 26 Bad But I Don't want to have to Pay $500 for One! I Believe They're Overpriced New and Used One's are not Much Cheaper! Blue Label Price Should Be the Price For Everybody!
